DVD "Flashback" Bug

I’m having a major problem with a DVD I just created from iMovie (with imported QuickTime clips), iTunes and iDVD.
The issue is the transition at the beginning of most of the DVD chapters has a momentary “flashback” to the ending of the chapter from two chapters earlier in the DVD.  The “flashback” occurs just as the new chapter starts.
Please find outlined the details.  Hopefully, these details will be helpful in realizing a solution to the iDVD “flashback” bug.
The “fashback” bug is not in the iMovie version of the video.  The bug occurs only in the iDVD version.  It can be seen both in the iDVD preview and the burned DVD.
The iMovie video uses the Sports Theme.  The video is composed of a series of QuickTime clips with added iMovie transitions between the clips.  The QuicTime clips form the chapters within the video.  The QuickTime clips have no sound.  iTunes sourced music is added in iMovie to provide a soundtrack.
Text is entered into the Sports Theme transition to indentify the chapter.  Crossfade transitions are also used (in the Beginning and the End plus once in the middle for the transition to a short QuickTime clip).  iMovie Chapter Markers are entered at the beginning of each chapter right after the transitions.  These are used to generate the iDVD chapters when the movie is shared with (exported to) iDVD.  The “flashback” bug occurs with both types of iMovie transitions and whether or not there is a Chapter Marker.
To better align the music to the length of the QuickTime chapter clips, the clip Speed was adjusted in iMovie.  This was done with almost half of the clips.  The adjustments range from 95.1% to 102.3%.  These are not major Speed adjustments.  Chapters 3, 4, 8, 9 and 10 have Speed adjustments from iMovie.  I’m suspicious that the iDVD “flashback” bug has something to do with the iMovie clip Speed adjustment.
Of the eleven chapters in the video, four chapters do not have the “flashback” bug.  The Introduction (there is no transition at the beginning of this chapter); the transition from the Introduction (i.e., Chapter 1) to Chapter 2; the transition from Chapter 5 to Chapter 6; and the transition from Chapter 10 to Chapter 11.  The “flashback” may or may not be from a QuickTime clip with an iMovie Speed adjustment.
The “flashback” though momentary, just looks sloppy and unprofessional.  The “flashback” image is also somewhat distorted – it’s horizontally stretched (making the team members look unflatteringly fat).
I’ve been creating these DVDs regularly for each of my son’s and daughter’s sports awards events for years.  I haven’t had this issue previously.  The last sports DVD was made in March with the same software.  I haven’t had this issue previously.  However, this is the first time I’ve adjusted clip Speeds in iMovie.  This was done to better align the clip with the music.
I tried to correct the bug by moving the iDVD and then iMovie Plists to the desktop.  But these two actions performed separately did not eliminate the iDVD “flashback” bug.
I’m running the current version of OSX Lion, iMovie ’11 and the version of iDVD that came with the boxed copy of iLife ’11.
These DVDs are absolutely necessary to show the movie at the sports awards events (these venues do not have Internet connectivity or computer video ports - just DVD or Blu-ray players) and to share copies of the video with the members of the sports teams.
Please let me know how I can eliminate this “flashback” bug from the final DVD.  By the way, it would be incredibly time consuming to go back and remake and retime the QuickTime clips.
Though I’ve just shown the video at the sports ward event (and it was a big hit!), I haven’t distributed the DVDs to the team yet.  I want to fix the “flashback” bug first.  But I need to get these DVD copies out to the team before the school year ends.  Consequently, I’m looking forward to your advice.
My thanks in advance.

iMovie Chapter Markers are entered at the beginning of each chapter right after the transitions.
The following are marker rules posted by Len Goff:
The chapter markers "rules" are:
Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the start or end of the timeline.
Make sure no chapter markers are within a transition.
Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the end of a transition.
Could any of these be part of the problem?

    hallo,

  • HD-DVD don't Play on Apple DVD Player

My Business is HD-DVD for Software training.
but, my client complain for about 3 month ago because that HD-DVD (4.7GB) can't play on Mac ( apple DVD Player 5.5 )
first time, we try HVTS folder drop into Apple DVD Player. OK.
    but about 10 minute. stop.
Apple DVD Player bug pix please.
we can wait Apple's develope, but our client can't wait Apple's unbalance develope.
    ( FCPX,MOTN5 just up, the other ??? )

The HD-DVD format was abandoned back in 2008.
Apple has abandoned DVD Studio Pro.
If your HD-DVD media is working on a Mac it is a fortunate happenstance.
I would not expect anything related to HD-DVD to be updated, fixed, or improved in any way, shape, or form.
Blu-Ray is the only way to deliver HD video on some sort of disc. There are ways to do this through Compressor but for any sort of control over authoring you would have to look at a non-Mac piece of software.

  • My experiences of importing different formats into IMovie...!!

I’ve been through a lot of pain with IMovie for the last 6 months, and cracked it a couple of days ago. I therefore feel the need to write about my experiences.
I have lots of old footage on:-
    1. DV tape
    2. HI8 tapes
    3. Sony mini-DVDs
    4. DVDs
    5. Sony standard def hard disk camcorder files.
    1. DV tape
This was a joy to import. OK, so I had to invest a small amount of cash to buy a new cheapie DV camcorder (as my old one broke years ago), but the import itself was easy. Just connect the camcorder, the import window appears, and away to go. Events are imported with the correct date and time, and it even creates a new event for different days imported.
    2. HI8 tapes
As I’ve only got a few of these, I decided to ‘cheat’, so I’ve recorded them onto DVDs using my domestic DVD recorder sitting under my TV. So the problem is shifted from HI8 tapes onto DVDs.
    3. Sony mini-DVDs
I’ve been trying to crack this issue for months. Clips are imported in random order, even though they are shown in the correct order in the preview. Hopefully it will get sorted. See the following thread:-
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9404421&tstart=0
    4. DVDs
Haven’t tried this yet, until the mini-DVD issue is sorted. I might go down the road of converting the VIDEO_TS folders into DV files using MPEG Streamclip from squared5.com but I’d rather wait and import them ‘properly’ as the software intended.
    5. Sony standard def hard disk camcorder files.
    Now this is the biggie…..
I had about 1,000 MPEG2 files on my hard disk, that I’ve moved from my camcorder over the years. To my annoyance, when I switched from a PC to the Mac, I needed to buy the MPEG add-on to Quicktime. OK, so no big deal, but even then, all I could get was the video with no sound. After weeks of digging about, I found out that the reason there was no sound is because apparently Quicktime can’t handle MPEG files with AC3 dolby digital sound. As all of my files are recorded in this format, this was a major hurdle.
I then dug around and discovered that on the Sony CD that comes with the camcorder, there is a utility to down mix the AC3 audio to stereo. But it can only do one file at a time – no good for 1,000 files.
Even so, I tried a few files, and yes – they now played under Quicktime WITH audio.
But when doing an import into IMovie 09, the files are greyed out and cannot be selected. So back to the drawing board...
I then looked into various bits of software, finally deciding to get MPEG Streamclip, in order to convert the files in something more Apple friendly.
I did lots of experiments over many weeks in converting files to different formats for import into IMovie, and even though some of them looked excellent, when exporting to different sized export files (e.g. IPod, AppleTV), some of them had artifacts and shimmering all over the place.
Reluctantly I took the helpful advice of someone to convert them into DV files. I say ‘reluctantly’ because the files are HUGE. So much so, I then shelled out (even) more cash on a Drobo to store all the converted DV files.
    Next problem...
Because MPEG Streamclip converts the files into DV files, the original date and time information is lost. This is a real pain and means IMovie thinks all the files are 2009.
I then purchased the excellent ‘A better finder renamer’ and ‘A better finder attributes’, to see if I could rename the files. Unfortunately there is no easy way to say ‘change the date/time on the new DV file to be the same as the old MPEG file’ a thousand times over.
I then approached a company about writing a bespoke automator script to do this for me. But it was going to be expensive.
I then set about manually changing some of the dates of the files.
Even then, IMovie was getting confused during the import, and putting some of the scenes in the wrong order. Looks like because MPEG Streamclip is so quick at doing the conversion to DV, that some of the files have the same time stamp, so IMovie gets confused.
I then looked into software to slow my Mac down, so that MPEG Streamclip would run slower (I wanted to guarantee that each file out of the thousand that it created was created in a different MINUTE to the last file). This was proving fruitless however.
I then had useful discussions with Appleman1958 - see thread -
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1979095&tstart=0
who suggested that I could rename the files with the IMovie notation, i.e.
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
I even worked out how to do this automatically using ‘a better finder renamer’.
But there was still one more issue.
When the files were imported into IMovie, the thousand files would just come in as one event (unlike importing DV tape where it splits into days).
Being unhappy with this, I had a brain wave and decided to try something else. AppleMan1958 helpfully suggested putting the files into different folders “behind IMovie’s back”, something I was open to doing, but wanted to try something else first...
I resurrected my old camcorder from my attic, and filmed a few minutes of footage.
I then plugged the camcorder into my Mac. To my AMAZEMENT, the import window appeared in IMovie (just like it does for DV tapes), AND the audio played as well as the video. I was absolutely staggered.
I then noticed an ‘archive’ button within the import window, so decided to press it. It then copied the MPEG file from the camcorder onto the hard disk. But it did so in the structure of the original camcorder (i.e. it creates a series of specially named folders, just like on the camcorder).
I then decided to copy all 1,000 of my MPEG2 files into the new special structure that had just been created.
All 1,000 files were then accessible using the standard import function!!!!
(By the way – I’m sure people already know this information – and I’m in no way taking credit for any of it, as it’s probably been suggested by other people in the past).
I’ve now happily imported all of the files.
(Interestingly, a couple of times it said ‘Error!’ on importing some of the files. The third time I tried it, it worked. How random!!)
What amazes me is that now the Mac CAN seemingly handle MPEG video AND ac3 audio, whereas it can’t handle it by double-clicking the files in the finder. I can’t see why this should be the case. Also, it’s really annoying that when importing the files from hard disk, the files are totally greyed out – but it CAN import them by fooling IMovie into thinking it’s a camera archive.
Ofcourse now I’ve spent all this extra money, it’s time to dust off the old camcorder and use that for a few more years, until I pluck up the courage to go hi-def...
Hope you enjoyed reading – thought I’d share my experiences incase there are any newbies out there with similar issues. It’s annoying that Apple make it seem like childsplay to connect your new shiny camcorder to IMovie, but seem give little help in the more technical issues.
Now, if only they’ll fix the mini-DVD import bug too...!
    Brad

    Hi Brad,
when you use Streamclip to convert media, use the same name for the exported file (only with different extension). Then make a shell script calling
    touch -r origFileName.mp2 newFileName.mov
This will copy the exact time and date from origFileName.mp2 to newFileName.mov
The script may look like this (save the file, give an exec permission to it and call it in the right directory):
    #!/bin/bash
    for i in `ls *.mp2`; do
    NEWNAME=$(ls "$i" | sed -e 's/mp2/mov/')
    touch -r $i $NEWNAME
    done
You may need to adapt the extension names used (in the example above .mp2 is input file to get the date/time stamp from and .mov is the output file to stamp.
    Have fun and cheers

  • JUMP TO LINK(s)!!!!!

Im so tired of flipping through pages of apps, I click on one that I wanna read, dont like it and when I hit the back/search button....IT GOES ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THE 50 pages I just went through!!  COME ON APPLE...I mean you created the most famous I device known to man and you can't put a "jump to" link in the app store???
    VERY FRUSTRATING!!!
    Chris

Unfortunately because of DVD SPs bugs/problems I've had drop each clip into it's own individual track and use the 'end jump' to link them
Probably I'm missing somethig, but I don't know such bugs in creating a track including several video/audio assets. Let us know the details and problems you found; that's the best way to do what you want.
You can use the Connections tab to set the Next & Prev Jump for each individual track. Read the information I pasted from the User Manual.
The problem you probably will find is that DVDSP will create individual VOB files for each track (no way to avoid that in DVDSP), and you most probably will find a very short delay/freeze when the track change from one to the another during playback. If you have continuous action in your movie, the effect will be very unpleasent for the audience. If every track is an indepent clip with i.e. with black dissolves in the clip ends, you probably won't notice the delay.
As I told you, let us know the problems you found creating a single track with all the clips.
    From DVDSP Manual page 529
    Next Jump and Prev Jump
Tracks and slideshows have two settings, Next and Previous Jump, that can only be set in the Connections tab with the advanced sources displayed. These settings define what happens when the viewer presses the Next and Previous buttons on the DVD player’s remote control.
While a track or slideshow is playing, the Next and Previous buttons allow the viewer to skip forward or backward between markers or stills. A setting in the Connections tab defines what happens if the viewer presses the Next or Previous button when there is no next or previous marker or slide. By default, with nothing assigned to these settings, nothing happens. This is the normal action used for most projects.

  • IDVD project not playing

Using my main iMac computer and iDVD software, I have just completed my fifth attempt to make an DVD project. I am unable to have a disc that plays... error message says that I'm inserting a 'blank disc'.. but if you look closely, one can see the project has been burned onto the DVD disc.
I've used  13 pieces of .mov footage (Project is a short documentary, with 12 x  individual stories -- all 13 pieces of .mov footage were compressed with FCP7, taken from the full documentary); one .jpg pic as a drop-in on the main menu; and I used the Sunflower template with chapters.  This project works when I use the Preview feature.
I finished the project, and burned a copy (and I repeated this five times, as I couldn't get the disc to work (checking the Preferences, and Project Info for settings: burn speed 1x, with High Quality encoding - not, Professional quality).
I put this copy into my MacBook Pro, but the disc won't read - says it s a blank disc. I've repeated this several times, but not had any luck yet, to make a playable DVD (and I need it to play on both Mac and PC computers).
I"ve even burned this as a Disc Image, and opened with VLC, and the file plays...... but, now what...?
I cannot get a disc that plays, even in my Macbook Pro.  I would be grateful for your advice.

    Hi
Sorry to say - I'm not clever enough to follow Your steps.
BUT - I made a note on how I get movies from FinalCut (Pro) to iDVD and onto a DVD.
May be it can help You.
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1) - never any faster as this use to give BAD DVDs
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

  • Phantom Ejecting after Leopard install?

After installing Leopard - my Macbook will sporadically 'eject' from time to time. Tonight it was very bad - with an 'eject' every 10mins or so. There is no disk in the drive.
Thoughts on what could be going on?
    Thanks,
    MC

I too am having this 'random ejecting' problem since upgrading to Leopard. Most annoyingly it happens mainly when my macbook is in standby, around 4 times a minute for an hour maybe but then not for a long while (days, even). Seems to mainly occur when I'm trying to get to sleep. >:|
Any idea how widespread this is / if Apple is going to take any notice? I don't like being forced to shut my laptop down at night just in case it wakes me up having a little fit with its DVD drive - bugs like this are the reason I tried to get away from Microsoft products...
    Am watching this space!
PS: Notice how all the posts in this thread are from people with (possibly 2.0GHz) macbooks

  • Bug - Lightroom 3 - CD/DVD drive corrupted

I have an issue that has been tested and proven to be Lightroom related whereas installing Lightroom, and updating to v 3.3 has caused my cd/DVD RW drive to be lost and corrupted.
The following notes and  timeline are a little long, but they fully explain the situation. If  anyone has had this issue or knows about a fix I would appreciate a  reply:
I will also add that I am a little peeved at the tech for Adobe customer support because he tried to brush me off after a few basic steps and told me the problem was a Windows issue. He said that Lightroom was installed on thousands of PC’s, and if the problem was Adobe’s there would be other people with the same issue… That was a presumptuous statement; as there is always the first case of a bug, and just because I was the first one to either have or report this problem, it did not justify Adobe leaving me cold. There is now a case number on this issue after further testing and my insistence that he escalate the case because I had already determined that it occurred at the precise moment I installed Lightroom. the Adobe Case # is 0181989673
    Problem Timeline:
After installing Lightroom 3, I discovered that CD/DVD Re-Writer drive was not working for Lightroom exports, I was seeing the notice at the bottom of theexport window stating “Disc Burning is not supported by lightroom on this computer” (The same as in the V 2.2 Bug)… As well, I looked in Windows > MyComputer, and the CD/DVD RW drive was missing.  I looked to the device manager. The CD/DVD Writer was listed in the tree but had a yellow exclamation notice. I Confirmed Error Code (I beleive it was code 31) for Driver not loading properly or corrupted.
I did some research and found the following information at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116
I followed the instructions as listed below (inset)... Timeline continued after.

        * Zune software by Microsoft
After reinstalling your programs, if you can play or access a CD or DVD, you are finished with this article.
After performing above procedures the CD/DVD drive loaded (Plug and Play) successfully and was recognized at a basic level. I re-installed the authoring software (Ashampoo Burning Studio 6). At this time I could read and write to DVD via Ashampoo; but still, I could no longer write to either CD or DVD via Windows XP.
Also at this time; I could still no longer write to CD or DVD via Lightroom 3.3 using export and choosing CD/DVD… Lighroom was still listing at the bottom of the export window “Disc Burning is not supported by lightroom on this computer”.
This brings me to the point at which I called Adobe Support; Case # 0181989673
Adobe tech had me perform the following:
Pull     the preferences folder out of Lightroom 3.3 folder and re-start Lightroom…     Problem still present
Open     Lightroom from the Administrators User account; import a photo and try to     export and burn to CD/DVD… Problem      still present
At this time the tech told me it was a Windows issue; NOT an Adobe issue; and that I would need to take it up with Microsoft, or just export to hard drive and burn to CD/DVD afterward using authoring software.
I immediately told the tech that was NOT acceptable because this issuewas caused by installing Lightroom 3.3; and although the problem now existed in Windows; that did not wash Adobes hands of it. I requested that the case been escalated to a senior tech… I did not at all appreciate the idea of being left in the middle and I also did not appreciate the notion of having a CD/DVD writer that was buggy and not performing as it should.
He told me "Lightroom was installed on thousands of PC’s, and if the problem was Adobe’s there would be other peoplewith the same issue"… To me, that was a STUPID statement; as there is always the first case of a bug, and just because I was the first one to either have or report this problem, did not justify Adobe leaving me cold.
The     tech decided to try creating a new Windows XP user account as     administrator and re-test Lightroom for burning to CD/DVD… Problem still present
Tech     instructed me to un-install and Re-install Lightroom. I un-installed     Lightroom. After taking screen shots of my preference settings (since I     would need to re-set all settings again). I uninstalled Lightroom.
At     this time; though the tech did not think of doing it; I decided to try and     burn to CD/DVD via Windows to see if the problem was gone after removal of     Lightroom. Now, with Lightroom removed, I can write to CD/DVD in the     conventional way using drag and drop via Windows.
I      told the tech what I had done; proving that this was in fact related to      Lightroom. He stated the case would be escalated and gave me the case      number.
I hope this taught the tech a lesson in troubleshooting and hope he will not be so quick to assume “Not an Adobe issue” as the exact cause of this anomaly has not been determined yet... Now I have not re-installed Lightroom yet. I would like for the senior tech who takes this case to contact me to give me further instruction because I have no reason to believe re-installation will not cause me problems again and want the tech to witness the result.

This problem has been resolved. I haven't heard from anyone else who has had the same issue, but in the event anyone does I can say what corrected it and I have a theory of what might have happened. Originally I installed Lightroom from the disk and after installation chose to update. After this is when the problem with the CD/DVD drive showed up. The tech at Adobe said they did not know what could have caused it, but recommended re-installing Lightroom to see if it happened again.
I did some research and found information at Peachpit: Having trouble burning CD/DVDs in Lightroom 2.2?
about a bug that was present in version 2.2 where the installation executable was accidentally installing the 64 bit drivers on the 32 bit system... The 64 bit drivers were corrupting the installation... On a hunch that it could be a similar issue, I downloaded Lightroom version 3.3 from Adobe and installed it rather than installing from the original CD. I did the install following the same instructions on the Peachpit post which was to double-click the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 folder, then double-click the setup32.exe file rather than double clicking the default installation executable.
I did not prove the above theory of the version 2.2 bug to be the cause, but the problem I had with the CD drive appeared after the original installation and went away after I uninstalled that installation of Lightroom. Now after re-installing as explained; the problem is gone.

  • New bug in DVD SP 4.1.1

After updating to ver. 4.1.1 subtitle files such as .STL, .SON, and .SCR are no longer imported on Intel Macs. Power PC machines are unaffected. Apple, wake up! This is unacceptable, especially after 4.1 static menus and DDP formatting debacle.

File a bug report using Apple's feedback page.
I don't think the company is asleep.
I did file a bug report. And the post was intended to alert other users that might consider upgrading to 4.1/4.1.1.
Since DVD SP was integrated into FCP Studio (and sold for free so to speak) it receives less attention from development team.
And yes, the company is not asleep. It is busy selling iPods and movies.

  • 10.7.2 Bug, Showing Data DVD as blank, but it's not!

I have a brand new Macbook Pro and I've encountered a baffling problem.  A data DVD (containing multiple PDF's) shows up as a blank writable disc on this computer.  I decided to run Parallels with Windows 7 (on the same MBP) and the disc showed up with all the files intact.  So I figured it wasn't a hardware problem.  Then I tried the same DVD in my older macbook (2008 model) and Mac Pro desktop (both with OS 10.6) and the disc works perfectly.  So it's not a general mac problem either, it appears to be a 10.7 Lion problem.  I then uninstalled Parallels and Toast just incase they were to blame...no luck.  I have tried other data DVD's in my new MBP and they work perfectly, so I tried to figure out what format was messing with Lion.  Using Snow Leopard, Toast & my old Macbook here are my findings regarding the format of the culprit DVD:
    Medium Type: DVD-R
    Space used: 4.38 GB
    Diameter: 120 mm
    Layers: single
    Manufacturer ID: RITEKF1
    Content:
    Title: Feb 22 2011
    Content Type: Data
    File System: UDF
    Tracks: 2
    Sessions: 2
    Details:
    Session 1 Start=0, Size 1.16GB
    Track 1 Start=0, Size 1.16 GB
    UDF  Feb 22 2011
    UDF revision 2.01
    Session 2 (open), Start= 645216, Size = open
    Track 2 Start = 645216, Size = 3.15 GB
    UDF  Feb 22 2011
    UDF revision 2.01
So as you can see it's a multisession DVD, which you cannot create under Lion but you should be able to read it.  It's also UDF format, etc.  Does anything else look fishy?
Anyway, I brought the MBP to the genius bar today and showed him my findings.  I tried the disc in his MBP and it also appeared to be a blank writable DVD. He believes it is a Lion bug and had nothing more to say.  Any thoughts from the techies out there?  Anyone have a similar experience?  I would love to have my results duplicated so that I can make apple aware of this bug.  Thanks all!
    My specs:
MBP 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    OS 10.7.2

    Cattus Thraex,
I know that you enjoy posting on the forums, but please only post relevant information.  If you've read everyones post in this thread you'll notice that the discs in question have all been tested on other operating systems & other hardware, therefore it's not necessary to write "then you may have a hardware problem" or "May also indicate a system corruption".  That's incorrect information and it shows that you have not actually read the other posts before replying.
FYI, I've never actually "called anyone out" in a forum.  I generally think it's a waste of time and it usually solves nothing.  That being said, I started this thread so that we could get a solution from Apple and I'd like for it not to be diluted by misinformation.  Please help us Apple!
Your last post is really what made me write this reply.  Your basically saying that our concerns are useless because this technology is antiquated.  That we should not be asking a question like this at all...
Let me break this down for you so you understand where we're coming from...
You wrote "Open Session Disks have always been problematic in Mac OS, and not recommented. Open sessions made sense 10-12 years ago, when rw-CDs did not exist, and a blank CD cost a lot "
Thanks for the info, but all of us in this thread have been given a disc by a friend of or a colleague that we cannot open on Lion, but it opens everywhere else.  We did not choose this format, but apparently someone else did and we must deal with it.  We all know that the technology is old...this is not helpful info.
you also wrote "Now, open sessions are entirely senseless, and I do not wonder if Apple completely drops support for this outdated method."
O.K., that again for the non-advice.  Again we didn't choose the format, someone else did.  So basically you're saying that we are silly for asking this question.  Are you still able to open a microsoft word file from 1993?  The answer is yes...
Anyway, from the information I've gathered from your posts above, you will not thoroughly read this post either.  I fully expect an angry response that has not been well though out, due to the lack of comprehension of what I'm saying here.  That being said, please suprise me by posting nothing at all...that would be spectacular!

  • [BUG?] playRate property (DVD Member)

I have a problem about playRate property (DVD Member).
Whenever I change playRate property, DVD Sprite never
recognize mouse event until restart the application.
    [example]
    1. Select any chapter in Chapter menu.
    2. Watch the chapter, using playRate as FastForward/Rewind.
    3. Back to Chapter menu.
    4. Then Chapter menu never respond your mouse!
Is this a bug? or Am I misunderstanding anything?

  • Bug in apple dvd player?

    has anyone epxerienced this?
I am experiencing a strange thing where buttons are intermittently not highlighting. Like after viewing a track, and pressing menu, I am on my menu with nothing highlighted (and menu targets are set to specific buttons).
This is also happening in my audio menu for example, I select a button that goes to a script that sets a variable and then jumps back to that specific button, If I keep pressing enter on one option, it seems that randomly the button wont be selected, but if I push it again, it will be...
I normally never caught this because I usually use the mouse over the video screen to select things, but this surfaces regularily when using the arrow buttons on the "remote"
    -p

I've been documenting thie issue for about 8 months.
We had a disc that the client kept bouncing for this issue, though we could not reproduce it ourselves.
    There are two factors here-
I believe it was Panther and it's version of DVD Player that were showing an eve more extreme version of the issue, where not only would highlights not appear, but the menu backgrounds would not change when switching between menus, very disorienting! However, even on Tiger with updated DVD Player, the missing highlight issue would still occur, usually on the default button the first time the menu is displayed.
Someone suggested this might have to do with the use of layered psd's as menu assets, so I converted everything to flat pict files (backgrounds & overlays were formerly in one file.) this worked on one disc but not another....
I have only ever seen this issue on the various version of the disc associated with this one project, but it occurs on all of them... The only other variable these project have in common is that they were originally authored in DVDSP3, and updated to 4. I'd say if it still persists, try re-authoring in 4 from scratch and see if that helps.

  • DVD Player Chapter Bug?

    Hi,
I created a DVDSP project with 56 chapters (spread across 7 menus) and built the project. Chapter selections work fine in all menus during DVDSP simulation. However, opening the built VIDEO_TS file with DVD Player resulted in an oddity. Clicking on any chapter selection beyond chapter 49 would not play the chapter.
The DVD Player's control clock shows the correct starting time at, say, chapter 50 and continues to run, but the player window does not play the selected chapter. Instead, the current menu stays in the player window while the clock runs.

In addtion to the previous post, the player will not properly handle DL disc created from DVDSP. The intro movie is skipped and the track's end jump menu is displayed instead. This issue does not occur on the two standalone DVD players I tried this disc on.
Hello? Is anyone from Apple reading this stuff???

  • I have just put iCloud on my computer this week.  I have had multiple issues with it and my computer not working.  Thought I worked most of the bugs out with updates etc, but now it will not read my dvd's or audio books.  Why is this?

Not sure what to do?  My disk drive will not read my dvd's or audio books.  Was working fine till I upgraded my comp with Icloud.

  • DVD won't mount in 10.6.2 - possible bug?

I'm sorry if this seems like a cross-post but I believe I've narrowed my problem to SL 10.6.2 and don't know where else to post this.
DVD will play in standalone DVD player but NOT mount on the computer that created it. I have confirmed that it will mount and play on a bootable backup I had made (10.5.8) before upgrading to Snow Leopard. Another reader posted the same problem on the thread.
please take a look and tell me what you think...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2260033&tstart=0
    thanks so much,
    Pale

The DVD will also mount in 10.6.1 (I had a bootable clone of that installation, as well)
    to recap...
I created an iDVD project. Saved as an .img file. Burned to DVD.
Those DVD's will not mount on the computer and OS it was created on.
They will mount on the same computer booted into clones of 10.5.8 and 10.6.1
They will play in standalone DVD players
They will mount on a friends Tiger installation 10.4.9
