DVD fluttering

Created a movie of slides, using iMovie HD 6.0.3 with 2 audio tracts, moved to iDVD 08, incorporated opening and closing theme clips, then saved as a disc image. Burned at 1x onto a Verbatim DVD-R disc, encoded "professional quality". The product plays with good audio, no skipping or hesitation, but there is intermittent fluttering of the video which sometimes "seems" to be in rhythm with the music. It can occur at any time, and comes and goes on the same music tract, but occurs on other tracts as well. Thanks for your help.

Two Things.
How long is your movie? If it is under 60 min you don't need to use Professional Quality and that could actually be messing it up. If nothing else works, try using a different brand of DVD.

  • Encore DVD Trancoding fluttering

    Hi,
I am new to the Adobe products and have limited knowledge in their various products. I would really appreciate some help in regards with transcoding in Encore.
So to give as much information as possible here is what i have done so far:
    Shot Footage
Was shot with a Canon XH-A1s Super Fine quality at 50i directly recorded in OnLocation CS5
    After Effects
Imported AVCHD (.m2t) files directly into After Effects from On Location
    Created Composition (1280x720 30fps)
Edited intro files with some graphics in After Effects and rendered in Quick Time .mov format (Animation preset) (at 1280x720 30fps)
    Encore
Built timeline in encore using .mov files and set transcode settings on either VBR 2 pass CBR or VBR 1 Pass, playing around with the upper and lower field order as well as trying progressive. With no luck. The transcoded videos keep fluttering, by fluttering i mean there is text (which should be static) jumping up and down for some reason. (The DVD transcode settings is as follows: MPEG2 720x576 at 25fps BitRate at 8.0Mbps)
I am sure there is some obvious reason why this is happeing by the information i pointed out above.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any assistance
    Regards,

    Craven,
So you are down-rezzing from HD to SD?
If so, maybe Jeff Bellune's TUTORIAL will be helpful.

  • DVD Audio flutters

When I play my movie in iMovie or iDVD the sound is amazingly clear and full, but when I play the same movie in my home theatre (from a burned DVD) the sound is noticably inferior. I chose the Best Quality at every step of the process. The pictures and clips are crisp and stunning, but the soundtrack is riddled with fluttering - never dropping out completely - but as though some sort of compression has robbed it of its full glory. Any ideas as to how this loss can be avoided?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   (original G5 iMac)

Audio stuttering is common in iMovie, but if it plays well there and in iDVD, that may not be the issue.
Have you tried 'saving as disk image'? And seeing if that plays ok using DVD Player software on your computer? Making a disk image is a good way to test out your DVD without wasting disks.
Also, what media brand DVDs are you using? Sometimes inferior brands may distort sound. Verbatim is highly recommended.

  • Dvd is jumpy

I burned a dvd with images from imovie and the photos are fluttering slightly on the dvd. Otherwise, the photo quality is great with no pixilation. I had created the project in idvd and dragged in the movie. Previously, I had reduced the size of the photos to 640x480 in iphoto before exporting to imovie as a DV project for standard screens. Is there a setting I missed along the way? Or is there anything else I can do to try to stop the flutter on the dvd? The images also look a bit too bright, though I can live with that. There is also one audio problem: a background track from a Stevie Wonder song is missing on the dvd. The other songs are fine. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks for any help.

These instructions don't address fluttering images. On another discussion board there was a tip to scale the images to 640x480 to improve photo quality by reducing pixilation. So that's why I did that. .... The song is from a CD. It plays fine on the Quicktime version of this movie for the web but not on the dvd.

  • HDV DVD FLUTTER

I am shooting HDV, and I am shooting more fast moving racing packages now. Is it better for me to just switch to DV and avoid the flutter when I burn down the DVD with the fast motion ....? or what do I do to avoid the fluttering/blurring while shooting HDV, it seems it is all in the compressor step of my work flow and I am starting the interlancing from the bottom. Thanks for the help.

If you're shooting fast motion, it would be best to shoot in just about any format other than HDV. Once you've recorded HDV to tape, the jerky motion problems of HDV are on tape - down-converting to DV won't get rid of it. Shooting in DV mode will eliminate that problem.

  • Fluttering sound

I am using an HP M7067c Media Center desktop. From day 1, when playing any type of audio (CD, DVD, iTunes, YouTube, etc.), the sound flutters through the playback. If anything runs, starts to run. or launch during the playback, the fluttering gets worse. I have removed the Realtek HD driver at least 100 times. After rebooting, the sound "might" play cleanly for a few hours, then the fluttering gradually comes right back.
I've gone through the StartUp and had all of the items unchecked except my virus/firewall software. When I check the StartUp an hour later, several if not all of the items are checked including my virus/firewall software. How does that happen when I only checked the virus/firewall software to be loaded at StartUp? They start to run in the background and the fluttering begins. I'm very disatisfied and have been for a long time with the audio playback on this machine. Is this problem a lack of memory issue or a sound/audio driver issue. If anyone knows and will tell me how to solve this crisis, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15 Notebook  and fluttering sound in audio playback. Here is a document on troubleshooting sound if you need it. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Please make sure your updates have been done on the Notebook.  Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating. Here is another step to try. 1. Right click the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner by your time.
    2. Click Playback Devices.
    3. Click Speakers/Headphones.
    4. Click Properties.
    5. Click the Advanced tab on the Properties window.
    6. Change the Default Format drop-down to the highest quality.
    7. Apply the properties.
    8. Click OK to close the properties window.
    9. Click OK to close the Playback Devices. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. I probably would restore back two weeks ago that way you are sure to go back before the issue had started. When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues. Please let me know how this goes.
    Thanks.

  • What is the fluttering noise coming from my desktop?

what is the fluttering noise coming from my desktop?

Probably a fan.  Could be hard drive noise, a CD or DVD that has a label on it.
Can you describe the sound more fully, what it sounds like, when and how often it occurs?

  • Stuck: Need Disk repair but DVD drive dead and only have USB 1

[1 Ghz flat-panel iMac with USB 1 ports (no USB 2) and also Firewire 400]
I noticed a strange discrepancy (small but concerning) between the size of a folder on hard drive (folder of all mp3's with no subfolders) and the backup of the same folder on a mounted thumb drive.
(The size difference was not due to any invisible .DS_Store files and both folders are displayed in List view format.)
    Disk Utility reports three things:
    1. Incorrect number of thread records
    2. Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
    3. Checking volume information.
Volume free block count",0)   [I might have mangled this line]
(It should be 13438611 instead of 13437937)
Here is the GOOD (but these are useless as explained under the "Bad"):
    - I have a Tiger 10.4 boot DVD for a repair ==>but see below
    - I also have a Disk Warrior disk (never used)
    Here is the BAD:
    - My built-in optical drive [Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105] is -- I now discover - defunct and DEAD - it does not run the Tiger Boot DVD (in pristine shape).
    - I bought an external SuperDrive (unopened) but I believe no boot from USB 1 is possible in PowerPC so a SuperDrive with USB 1 is useless.
    Questions:
1.) Is there any way to boot from some external source (optical drive is DEAD) to run Disk Utility and/or Disk Warrior? -- I see none in this case! (gulp).
2.) More importantly (and this is my fundamental concern): Do the three Disk Utility hard drive issues constitute any direct threat to the integrity of my files?
I have almost everything backed up to duplicate thumb drives over these many months as standard practice.
Are these Disk Utility errors fully isolated to hard drive directory-keeping...or do these directory damage errors pose the possibility of mangling or harming my files or their metadata (filesize, etc.).
Put another way, when files are backed-up from a hard drive under the Disk Utility reports above, do they remain unharmed and undamaged by the situations reported by Disk Utility?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Jeff and Michael,
Thank you both for your generous and thoughtful input.
Michael: As I slept on it overnight, the exact same idea occurred to me of trying a Target Mode to the iMac from my Lion MacbookPro (I have it but stupidly have yet to use it much!).
I did buy a Firewire 800 (MBP) to Firewire 400 (iMac) adapter cable a few months ago!
CONCERN: Would there be potential compatibility issues or risks in running Lion 10.7's Disk Utility against the hard drive of the old OSX 10.4 iMac in Target Disk Mode?
==> Assuming an "it's ok" answer to the Target Disk question, would the majority of users agree that the Target Disk Mode would be more prudent than running:
fsck -fy   in Single User Mode
I have never done fsck -fy before especially because I was under the impression there were issues with Journaled drived but from what I have read today...it looks ok to do)
Jeff: Can't thank you enough for the reference to the OTW DVD drive. I might first invest $10 in one of those DVD lens cleaner disks that I've read about. It's probably not the issue or else why would the drive read commercial Music cds perfectly well!
    Thanks,

  • How do I install bootcamp on the new drive that I installed with the dvd drive adapter

Hello, I have a macbook pro mid 2012 13 inch, I have just earned some money, enough to buy a SSD, and I happily went to the store and bought a samsung evo 840 120gb SSD. My plan was to clean install windows 8.1 on the SSD, I already had bootcamp on the 500GB HDD with windows 8 that came with the mac, so I backed up the important files from the windows partition. I deleted the partition, and restored it to the mac's partition (which I was going to partition again after the windows installation is complete for the storage for my windows partition) I made a installation usb with the iso I have made with bootcamp assistant, and waited. After that was done I restarted my computer holding the option key, then I booted into the EFI boot partition, and went through the process, entered the serial key, and agreed the thing, and then  when I did the format it said it couldn't do it, so I took it out put it in an external hard-drive case, then I plugged it into my windows 8 laptop, then I opened command prompt, then I typed "diskpart", then after the administrator thing popped up, I clicked yes, then in the diskpart prompt, I typed in "list disk", and my SSD was disk 1, so I did "select disk 1" then I typed "clean" Then I went into the drive manager, then a thing popped up saying which one would I choose between MBR or GPT so I selected GPT, then made a new NTFS partition on the SSD, then took it out, then I popped it back in then went through the installation, until the actual installing part where after copying files is done, this pops up "Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code 0x8007045D" So I downloaded a torrent because I had thought that this was corrupted, and downloaded a torrent from a website, and downloaded the iso, and I tried and the same error, again and again of taking out the drive from my computer to format it and putting it back in again (since there was some files made on the SSD) so I had decided that I would download a windows 8 torrent, then I did then it couldn't even start, so I want to install windows 8.1 on my macbook pro, on a separate drive in the the DVD cage (not external, internal), would there be any way to do it, please help!

  • How to connect my Macbook Pro to play dvds on my TV

What cables and which output ports are best to play DVDs on my Macbook pro and displaying the movies on my TV? I was thinking the video output would be either "mini display" or "firewire" and the audio would be the headphone audio out port, but I'm guessing and I would rather not buy a lot of cables I don't need.

Actually, mini displayport is digital only so you can only output to digital standards like DVI or HDMI. If you have an old CRT w/ RCA inputs (the red, yellow, white inputs) then you won't be able to connect your MBP (at least not w/o an expensive convertor). There is a DVI to video adaptor but that is b/c DVI can transmit both digital and analog; your MBP, however, is not capable of sending an analog signal through there.
Long story short, if you have a new TV w/ digital inputs, then there are a lot of options, but realistically none if you don't have digital inputs.
You can buy this combination for HDMI:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?mco=NDY5OTA2OQ
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TR842LL/A?mco=NDY5NzgwMw
You can also buy a mini displayport to hdmi adapter and hdmi to hdmi cable from amazon (or other electronics stores).
If your TV accepts DVI, you can get this combination:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?mco=NDY5OTA2OQ
& a DVI to DVI cable not sold at the Apple store.

  • RECORDING DVD FROM VCR

HOW DO I RECORD A DVD FROM A VCR? I BOUGHT A APPLE MINI-DVI TO VIDEO ADAPTER AND A S CABLE ADAPTER, IT ALL HOOKS UP, BUT IT DOESN'T SHOW UP AS BEING THERE. HELP! ANYBODY! I WOULD LIKE TO DUB MY CHILDS MOVIES OF WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG BEFORE THEY ROT AWAY ON VCR TAPE. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

    FYI.
I recently purchased the EyeTV 200 (Firewire).
A refurb direct from Elgato for $200.
    opeyetv200refurb)
Yeah, I got the "200" because I'm transferring 300 training sessions from VHS to DVD. I use the RCA inputs (three wire plug type - white & red (sound) and yellow (video)). EyeTV200 does a fine job.
I also use our Canon GL2 to pass the video through the camera via firewire into my Intel iMac. I find EyeTV 200 easier (and I can watch and record TV!) while at work! (WaaHOO!)
This is for the analog signal. TEh EyeTV 500 is for
    digital cable.
Didn't know that. Saw the "500" but thought it was for HDTV only. Thanks for the info.
Comes with EyeTV software which allows you to view a
TV guide (titantv.com) and click what you want to
    record.
True! You can even schedule it to record like a VCR. I set it up to record "Amazing Race" before leaving work because the program comes on late and I wanted to see it. Got to work and there it was!
Has S-Video as well as Composite video and stereo
    audio inputs.
So true. I also have a VCR with S-Video and it works just dandy with EyeTV 200.
I'm in the process of putting my videos onto DVD with
    it.
Let's you save directly as MPEG 1, 2, or 4.
Also exports to DV, iPod, H.264, DIVX, HD720, HD1080.
    etc.
Between this and iDVD and iMovie HD, it's some pretty
    wicked stuff.
Ain't it so! Two happy EyeTV users playing on their Macs!

  • I am trying to build a DVD from an Everio Camcorder in 16:9. but output is 4:3

    Hi,
I can't seem to be able to fix this problem. The settings I use in Premiere Elements 9 are as follows when I Open the project: NTSC, Hard Disk Flash Memory Camcorders, Widescreeen 48KHZ. When I bring my scenes in the timeline, I get a warning:"Mismartched Project Setting Preset" . I does not matter if I click Yes or no, they come out 4:3. Also when I create a DVD, I use the setting NTSC Wide Screen Dolby DVD.
I can figure out what to do to fix that. Also, just spent an hour on the phone with a tech about blurry output and the resolution was to change my files .MOD to .M2V. It could be a pretty long process. With those issues, it is getting to be pretty frustrating.
    Thanks for your help,
    Luc

    Lut,
    Welcome to the forum.
What are the full specs. of your MOD, and M2v files? If you do not know exactly, you can use G-Spot, or MediaInfo, to gather that info.
That info might help pinpoint the issue.
