Dvd for computer vs tv playback

hello.
is there a way to take QT files that were created with square pixels and not have them get distorted when using them in DVD studio pro?
put another way:
if i take a 720 by 480 square pixel animations created in various programs and edited together in FCP. i would like to make a dvd that plays it on a computer without distortion is there a way to do this?
thanks,
harvey

OK. Try then encoding your movie in Compressor using the standard DVD high Quality 90 min preset and encode your video to MPEG2 and the audio to AC3 (Dolby).
I don't how long in minutes is your movie (I forgot to ask before!) but you can try encoding just some short part using IN/OUT points in Compressor to check the final result.
Import the MPEG2 and AC3 files in DVDSP and use them in a track and try simulating it to check the aspect ratio.
You didn't answer how you did before your DVD that ended with bad aspect.

  • Best way to compress to DVD for computer monitors and TVS

    Hello
I have to build reels for directors based on samples of their work. I am trying to figure if it is possible to make all their media look good on DVD. Its coming from lots of sources; film, ntsc, pal etc....In order for best DVD viewing (and that means watching on progressive and ntsc monitors) any body recommend what to conform the media to? I have read that all hollywood DVDs have their media at 24p which looks great on all monitors no matter what cause DVD players flag for pulldown and make those conversions themselves.
One of my bosses does not want to see any interlacing ever. Which makes my job very difficult b/c I am making lots of DVDs from 29.97fps footage and on computer monitors, the interlaced frames are very apparent.
    thanks for any help,
    dan

I guess photo jpeg, is the only chance I've got.
    Why?
Photo JPEG is not a format that Final Cut Pro works with natively. You will have to render every time you make a change.
All interlaced formats have the option of making them progressive in QuickTime Player's Export > Options > Settings dialog. You can also do a quick Deinterlace by pressing command and J to get the QT Properties window -click on Video Track at the top, then the deinterlace button at bottom right.
Compressor also has a setting to change field dominance to None and deinterlace (don't use both).

  • Burn DVD for Full 16:9 Playback on TV

I've edited a video with Final Cut Pro 7 that was shot in 1920x1080 24P and exported as a 1920x1080 QuickTime movie. I imported the movie
into iDVD with 16:9 settings and burned a DVD. When I played it back on my 16:9 tv, it was letterboxed on the top and bottom. What do I have to
do so the video image fills the entire 16:9 tv screen?

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 Burning cd-rom, not dvd for playback on TV

    Hi there.
I completed an HD project in FCP 7, compressed in "Compressor" and now want to burn a DVD in HD in DVD Studio Pro 4.
I went into "Preferences" and made what I believe are all of the necessary changes to make this happen.
However, when it burns, it won't burn a DVD for playback in a DVD player. In fact, one of my DVD players identifies it as a CD-ROm, and sure enough, it plays in the computer, but not in a DVD player.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kevin

HD DVD is a dead format, abandoned by its developers a few years ago after losing out to Blu-ray.
However, HD DVDs will play on later model Macs and a couple of (now obsolete) models of HD DVD players that were made by Toshiba.
Normal, set-top DVD players and Windows DVD player programs have never been able to play HD DVDs. They only play DVDs, which are standard definition only. Some DVD players will upscale the output of a DVD (again, standard definition) to HD dimensions for playback on HDTVs. Some actually do a pretty good job ... some don't. But the fact remains that the source being played can only be standard definition.
So, if you want to make a disc that will contain HD content, you'll need to make a Blu-ray disc. If you want to make a DVD that will play in DVD players, you'll need to make a DVD, which again, can only be standard definition.

  • Is there a way to optimized a DVD for playing on a computer, not on a TV?

I've got a project that I cut in FCP 5, looks fine on a TV, but my client wants it on DVD for sales force to use. Wants them to use laptops with DVD players. Problem is that the graphic portion of the program looks lousy when encoded in MP2. In fact, their logo, which again looks fine on TV monitor, looks looks awful on a DVD.
Unfortunately the sales force doesn't have Quicktime installed on their computers. Thinking of making a .wmv or mpg-1 movie and putting it inside a Director project on a CD.
Or is there a way to optimze the graphics for computer playback?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

You may be better off using Flash/Director for ROM playback...
If you can encode the graphics/title sequences from animation (codec) and not ever making them NTSC/PAL DV then try that...
Does it look bad on DVD all the time? So it looks poor on TV when playing off of the DVD? When you are watching the DVD on a computer are you watching it at Normal Size? Full Screen? if FS then how do they look when they are not stretched so much.... what res is the screen?

  • The optimum DVD authoring/rep/dupe for 100% of consumer playback success

I'm needing to know from the pros in here the best workflow for DVD creation. We're doing a national distribution of a DVD (5000 first press) and want to ensure that this DVD will play in all players as well as auto play in those players.
Or at least have a 95% success rate. I'm not sure what is "acceptable loss" when it comes to mass distribution.
Things like what software is used to author...what format is presented to the replication house...what kind/brand of DVDs are best used to replicate to...and so forth.
Any ideas which will lessen the odds of problems down the line from our customers?
    Thanks in advance!

Hey David! Let me address your points here so you can get a better understanding of what we're doing:
+So I take it you have this; written/story boarded, shot, donuts, color corrected, edited, properly formated. blah blah and blah. And you ready to go to dvd.....+
You are correct. Like the thread title basically implicates, need help with playback success. Not creation of a master.
+So this dvd will be in all the; bookstores, Walmarts, Blockbusters, Starbucks so on and so on... Your going to need more than 5000 for a national distrubtion.+
Nope...this is a DVD that is distributed among all the sports centers in the country. We're an athletic/fitness company. I think I have good enough product knowledge of what we sell to know a quantity to forecast for first runs. All coffee houses and blue light specials can get their own DVD to sell. lol
+I would be happy with 25%. I could retired... Wait a sec I am retired.+
Not with us. No time to retire as well.
+Pay someone to author the dvd for you.+
We are paying someone else to do this for us. Money is not an issue and not a cheap hillbilly deal. It also doesn't hurt to be armed with a little knowledge and understanding of the process before embarking on that journey. Enter the discussion groups.
+Why on earth would you burn this to dvd. Have the dvd pressed.+
Didn't I say "pressed" in my posting? I don't know a lot about this, but I know enough to know that much. Success rate is very important.
+It might (and will) cost more for the software, dvds, dvd replicators, cases, printed inserts and headaches will probably cost you more than to hand over the material for the dvd to someone to build the dvd and then sending it to the replicators.+
You are correct. Again...we're not doing the job. A "Pro" lab will. Sounds like you assumed we were tackling the job from start to finish. But there are good and bad houses out there I'm sure (as with anything else you farm out these days) so a little understanding of what to ask these places of their methods/procedures might save ourselves some money and headaches down the road.
*Well, the same question goes folks...any more tips?*
Thanks for playing David! I appreciate your advice and tips..

  • Optimizing for computer viewing

Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere, but I have searched without success.
I am creating a DVD for an artist that is chock full of TIFF files (all of which are 720x480). The DVD looks great on NTSC monitors, and in simulator, but when played on computer monitors the images are soft. I do understand the difference between computer monitors and NTSC monitors, but is there a way to build a DVD that is optimized for computer viewing? I know this is not what DVDSP is mainly used for, but any suggestions will be appreciated. Again my apologies if this has been covered. Thank you.

    Hi:
At what magnification are you playing the DVD in your computer? REmember that playing in computer full screen can double (or more!) the size of your video format.
What is the scope of your project? If you need just computer playback probably a Video DVD is not the highest quality you can get. Probably a multimedia application can gices you more resolution. Just an idea.
If you do need to create a Video DVD, probably you need to change your workflow. What size (in pixels) are imported images? What encoding settings did you use? What kind of images are you using (I mean, the content of the images)?
DVDSP Slideshows don't gives you too much control. You can get full control of your edit and encoding working in a FCP timeline (i.e. using a low compression codec like uncompressed or even DVCPRO50) and using Compressor to encode it to MPEG2.
    Just some ideas !
    Hope that helps !

  • I installed a new hard drive in my MacBook. Is there a way to download os 10.6 from internet to DVD for install?

I installed a new hard drive in my MacBook. Is there a way to download os 10.6 from internet to DVD for install?

    Hi C.Mathew Mulligan,
If you would like you can your boot your computer into recovery mode using Command+R There you can select re-download it from the internet. You will not have any of your old data on your new computer, but that is because you replaced your hard drive. So if you would like your old data to be there on your new computer I would recommend to back up your old hard drive to Time machine then Boot it into recovery using Command+R and click on restore with Time machine. Once that has completed successfully you not only should have 10.6 But you will also have all of your data from your old computer.

  • My exported mpeg2-dvd m2v file won't playback an image in Encore CS6 or QT?

I've also posted in Encore, but this group sees a lot more traffic and supposed to deliver tomorrow.
Exported media as mpg2-dvd from PP CC 2014, imported as timeline with the .wav into Encore as suggested here: Adobe TV
I don't know if this is an export issue, or an import-into-Encore issue. I get sound but no image in the Encore monitor window. The m2v file plays back in VLC, but no image in QT, and attempted playback gets me spinning beach balls.
Thoughts? Just need to burn a DVD for client delivery tomorrow. Yes, a DVD.
I'm running osx 10.9.5, 2.7GHz i7/16GB RAM MBP with a couple of SSDs in it, and a Thunderbolt RAID 1 for media.
    Thanks for any leads.

If you can post screen grabs of the Export Settings and Encore screen, might be of help. Have not run into this before, no video in Encore.
    Thanks

  • Burning large QT .mov file to DL-DVD for backup

    Hello
To be clear. I am not interested in creating a DL-DVD for playback on a set top DVD player connected to a television.
Rather, I haver a 6+GB .mov file that I would prefer to keep intact and burn to a DL-DVD. I need to do this mainly for backup purposes and would like to try & avoid manually cutting up the file into multiple smaller .mov files in FCS. The file has already been compressed using the H.264 codec and I would like to avoid any further compression.
So, my question is, can I burn this file to a data DL-DVD without having to worry about the "break point" on the DL-DVD corrupting my QT .mov file?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Tim

Unless I'm missing something Video Monkey is an encoder. I've already encoded the video so that is not an issue.
I'm trying to find out whether or not I can burn my 6+gig .mov file to a data DL-DVD without the "break point" corrupting the file for the purpose of backing it up should the copy on my HDD get corrupted.
    Thanks for the reply though.

  • Video scene markers not detected by DVD or computer

I have burnt an autoplay DVD with elements 2 which combines video and still images.
I put scene markers at each video cut and on each still image but when burnt neither DVD or computer detects them and I so I cannot flick between scenes. What might be causing this? Thanks

I have not had time to hunt down the old FAQs related to this topic that CE mentioned in his posts.
I have Premiere Elements 2, 4, and 7. I can confirm that if
    a. I put scene markers on the Timeline
    b. Go the Create Menus section of the program and opt for No Menus
    c. Then, in the DVD Preview (before the burn), I find options in the simulated Remote for Previous Scene (shortcut P) and Next Scene (shortcut N) which recognize the appropriate scene...works fine there.
However, when I take the end product DVD-VIDEO to my TV/DVD Player, I end up with an AutoPlay with no option to pick (skip to) specific scenes once I hit Play. I cannot find a Previous Scene/Next Scene on my Remote that will function to do just that. If I select Search (slow or fast), that is exactly what it does, but it gives me very poor control.
Although CE says this AutoPlay with scene selection opportunities is popular, what percentage of users has used it for that purpose successfully. Is my experiences related just to my Remote and my use of it?

    Hello BabyBoomer;
Thank you for your post. My computer is running with Magsafe.
Earlier I had been repairing disk permissions. No problems were found.
Now I started Disk Utility and verified disk for errors.
    Following Problems were found:
    Volume header needs minor repair.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit.
    Volume needs repair.
Though when I repaired the disk, no problems were found??? But problem still exists. I'm getting a new hard drive soon. Maybe that solves the problem, if the problem is the hard drive.
Also, sometimes when I start disk utility, the computer crashes.
