DVD for UK and World Wide. Should I shoot Pal or NTSC

Hey guys,
I have a project to produce a series of DVDs for an American client.
They want the finished films on DVD for Worldwide distribution.
I have a Sony Z1E and I can shoot HDV1080i50 for Pal or HDV1080i60 for NTSC.
I intend to edit in HDV and down convert the final films for standard def DVD.
Will there be a problem watching these films on certain TVs? Will a Pal DVD work on a NTSC TV or will a NTSC work on a Pal?
I want to know from the beginning so I can shoot in the format which will work best for the final DVD to be seen on both Pal and NTSC.
Please help if you can,
Jamie

NTSC DVD players cannot play PAL DVDs. Most (but not all) PAL DVD players can play NTSC DVDs. So if you want to make only one disc your best bet is NTSC. But be aware that you will get a few people who will say, "It doesn't work". The best solution is to make PAL and NTSC discs. And no, you cannot make a disc that is both PAL and NTSC.
A side note. DVD players will only play SD material. So shooting HD is overkill. You will have to convert it down to SD resolution. Also HDV is the poorest of the HD formats as far as quality goes.

  • I live in Australia, should I use PAL or NTSC settings when creating my DVD?

I am new to creating DVDs and I am not sure what settings will give me the best quality when I burn it to DVD. I live in Australia, should I use PAL or NTSC settings? Any other hints?

    Hi
My best Guess is - PAL
Does Your electicity current use 50Hz or 60Hz
    Sweden 240V 50Hz - TV - 25 frames per sec = PAL
    USA 110V 60Hz - TV - 29,97 fps = NTSC
    AND
Then it comes to HOW the Video was recorded - AS iDVD does not convert in a very good way. I use JES_Deinterlacer to do this when I need to send a DVD to USA. and it's free on Internet and even very expencive converters doesn't do it any better.

When I save my iMovie project to DVD for storage and possible future editing, I cannot retrieve it from the DVD. I get the message, "The project could not be opened, bacuase the disk is full, the folder is locked, or the folder permissions are incorrect..." How do I remedy that?

    the folder is locked
iMovie projects won't work with locked volumes (such as a DVD!). So you must first copy the project to the HD.

  • I do not own an adobe product and want a one-time payment licence for students and teachers, what should I get?

I do not own an adobe product and want a one-time payment licence for students and teachers, what should I get? There are so many licenses to choose from and at least 3 lightroom licenses for students.

If all you are looking for is Lightroom, I would suggest going to your campus computer store. The computer store where I worked had Lightroom in stock. If your store doesn't have it in stock they can order it for you. There is really only one Lightroom 5 license that comes with the standalone version, student or otherwise. The program is identical either way. Licensing for the creative cloud is handled through the web and the payment method, But you aren't concerned about that.

  • I think it is a shame for a company this large and world wide not to have  live people to TALK to on the phone to help with issue instaed you have to type in to a computer . What happen to the personal touch and caring for your consumers it is SO frustrat

I don't understand why your company would not want to be customer freindly and helpful , If i wou;d have known there wwas no way of communicating with you other than typing i would not have purchased any of the ipod items we own . I think you should be ashame for your company  for not adding a personal touch not every one is conputor savy and do make mistakes when typing  but nno one in your company will help  unless i chat online i don't always have time to do this and it makes me upset and angery  when i have to talk to a computor instead of a live person  I hanve talked to pple representive 2 were very freindly i was a complete A## and very rude  i don,t understand how your company grows with bad attitueds and taking so long to respond back to you .I wish i could find another brand that did what the the ipod does  andd i would toss mine for it .

First, please understand that you're not communicating with Apple when you post in these forums. Everyone here, with rare and limited exceptions, is just a fellow user.
If you want help directly from Apple with a technical problem with an iPod, you can either visit an Apple Store, if there's one near you, or you can call Apple tech support. You can find a list of phone numbers for Apple support for the various countries here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you are referring to problems with the iTunes Store, then as is common with most if not all download stores, Apple only provides technical support via email. I presume that they find it not to be cost-effective to provide phone support for such small purchases.
BTW, the forum you posted in, iTunes U, is for colleges and universities who provide content through the iTunes Store. For user questions about iTunes, use one of the general iTunes forums. If you want to comment to Apple, their feedback pages:

  • DVD for Movie and location for picture files

In iDVD can I play a movie of some pictures and also use the dvd for a location of the pictures used soe a person can watch the movie or go to a folder from the menu and see the pictures or drag the pictures to their computer?

Are you referring to the Dvd-Rom section of the dvd? Yes you can add any file you wish to this section but it wont be playable by most set top dvd players. But you can use a computer to drag and drop the data to a different mac or pc.
Adding files to the DVD-ROM portion of a disc
You can let viewers copy files directly from your DVD by adding the files to the DVD-ROM portion of the disc. These files are burned onto the DVD and are accessible when the disc is viewed on either a Windows PC or a Macintosh computer, but not a DVD player.
You can add any kind of file to the disc. For example, if your disc contains a slideshow, you can add the image files to the DVD-ROM portion of the disc so viewers can download them to their own computers and print them. You can also add a file containing your movie production notes and other “extras.”
To manually add files to the DVD-ROM part of your disc:
Choose Advanced > Edit DVD-ROM Contents.
    The DVD-ROM Contents window opens.
Click Add Files, or click New Folder first if you want to create a folder to put the files in.
Browse to select your files or folders, then click Open to add them to the disc.
You can also drag files directly to the DVD-ROM Contents window. When you are done, just close the window.
When you add a file to the DVD-ROM portion of your disc, before you burn the disc the project contains just a reference to the location of the file on your hard disk, not the actual file. So if you delete a file from your computer or move it from its location after adding it to the DVD-ROM contents, you get a “File not found” message when you try to burn your disc. You can either remove these missing files from the DVD-ROM contents or find them on your computer and put them back in the original location so iDVD can access them.
As you add files to the DVD-ROM contents, be sure to check the DVD Capacity meter in the Project Info window to find out how many gigabytes of disc space are being used. The Capacity meter shows the disc space taken up by the video portion of the disc as well as the DVD-ROM portion.
NOTE: It is not recommended that you use this feature as a way to create regular system backups on DVD. If you want to create DVD backups of files on your computer’s hard disk, use the Burn Disc feature in the Finder.
When you add RAW images to a slideshow from iPhoto or from elsewhere on your computer, the files appear as JPEG images in your slideshow. If, in iDVD preferences, you choose to add photos from the slideshow to the DVD-ROM portion of the disc (so that viewers can download them to their computers), the RAW files are added, not JPEGs.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • Websites over Blogs - The Future of the Net and World Wide Web, Websites over WordPress

Hey there, I have been a blogger for the past six years and frankly it has been getting tired and stale. It’s the same thing day in, day out. Recently a co-worker introduced me to Adobe Muse and I am going back to school to learn web design so I can make my own websites. Don’t get me wrong, blogging is cool but I am tired of blogging now. I want to know if it is more rewarding and more stable to work with websites instead of blogs.
My issue is the updating of websites. I want to be able to make websites about my favourite new movies and music, not to mention TV shows and Caribbean culture. I’ll do three different sites of course as I like to divide and conquer and I hate doing the general thing. I already have a domain name picked out and I would sign up and start doing my websites as early as this evening. I have been positing like crazy on message boards about this but I wanted your take. I know you have done websites before and a co-worker, recently introduced me to Adobe Muse and I am loving the drag and drop features. It’s easy to use and it’s great to use and I am still learning to publish.
What I want to know if how you update blogs without manually pushing down later posts down to a new page or to the bottom of an existing page, because in blogs WordPress does this for you automatically when you publish something new. I know webpage programs vary but what is the general procedure like? Blogs automatically create pages where things are basically archives to an older page with the older posts being there and newer posts appearing at the top of the main page. I really want to do websites again and learning how to create my own sites and all is cool. What I want to know as well is, if I can import my own templates and apply them to my site in Adobe Muse and Adobe Dreamweaver which I have used in the past when it was a Macromedia product.
Also how do I publish my website or publish updated stuff like updated pages and items, etc? Blogs are fun and all but lately it’s just getting tired so with emerging technologies like php and css as well as html5 which are the future is it worth it to create blogs to put your opinions and content out there or work with websites and are most pages out there blogs or regular websites? Which is more profitable? I ask this because while websites are here to stay and have been around first and longer and still going strong blogs are hot and popular. Blogs haven’t been able to topple websites.
Do you have a website or websites for yourself and how has it been, the process and so on? Can you update easily and do you use Adobe Dreamweaver? How is your web publishing and web content experience? What is web content like to you and where do you see your content going in the next five to ten years because while social media like Facebook is hot now, wit may not be hot in the next five to ten years. It may be a trend now that may evaporate in a few years so the next big thing may come along and websites and blogs may hold their own. What is your take?

With the steady stream of emerging web technologies, the web is constantly changing.  What worked well for web developers 6 years ago has been replaced by all new programming and design methods.  This cycle never stops either.  A new trend emerges, remains popular for a while then fizzles out and is replaced by another one.  It's impossible to predict what will and won't last.  Only time will tell.  So professional web developers  must keep pace with all new technologies or risk being left behind.
6 years ago almost all web sites were built to support the average desktop/laptop screen.  A standard page width of 800 - 1000px was common.  Today however, we must cater to a whole new generation of mobile and tablet devices.  The one-size-fits-all web site layout is no longer relevant.
Mobile users interact with the web differently than desktop users.  They need finger-friendly navigation and forms.  They want quick access to less content.  And they need pages that fit their device and don't drain their batteries & data plans with gratuitous images, animations & other media files.
On the other hand, a desktop user with a good broadband connection is likely to want more information, greater interactivity and plenty of media-rich content because their device can support it.
Finding a balance between these two polar opposites is just one of the many challenges modern web developers face.
    Dreamweaver vs Muse
Dreamweaver is a pro-level web authoring tool aimed at people who care about code.  There's no limit to what you can do in DW, providing you have the requisite skills with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySql databases.  DW expects you to know code.  If you don't, you'll be very frustrated until you learn code.
Muse is aimed at consumers and designers who know nothing about code.  All that drag & drop ease of use is nice but it comes at a price.  MU is limited.  You cannot use it to build dynamic blogs, shopping carts, or content management systems like WordPress.  It won't build mobile phone apps either. MU might be all you need for a static hobby site, but if you need more than that, you won't be able to do it in Muse.  More importantly, if you build your site in Muse, be prepared to stick with Muse for the life of your site.  The code it generates is almost impossible to work with in any other HTML editor.
Decide what's important for your long-term project goals.  Use the right tools for your project.

  • IPhoto slideshow to DVD for TV and PC viewing

I am creating a slideshow that needs to be able to be played on a DVD with unknow TV and a PC with a projector. Will not know exactly which one. The slideshow is simple (200 images estimated), would like to have Ken Burns effect if possible.
I also have Keynote available if it would be a better appliciaont. What is the best workflow to produce a reliable, high quality product? Thanks in advance.
    Mark

The tip refers to the file "Library6.iPhoto" that is in the iPhoto Library folder. That's the file that often gets damaged or corrupted and makes iPhoto think there are no photos in the library or that the files are missing but the thumbnails are there. I just select it and type Command-D to make a copy of it which ends up as "Library6 copy 1.iPhoto". When I need to backup again I delete that file and make another copy of it.
For protection of HD problems and really losing your files I suggest an external Firewire HD. An 80G drive is not that expensive and can hold your iPhoto Library folder and, in general, your entire User folder. That folder contains all of your important, non-replaceable files. The system and applications can be replace
That being said DVDs can be used with iPhoto's Share->Burn Disk menu option to burn multiple rolls to disk in the iPhoto format. This will allow you to mount that disk in iPhoto like this to copy back those rolls into a new library is that were necessary. As you get a number of new rolls you can burn another disk. Or use a CD and burn fewer rolls as they are added. That preserves the keywords, albums they were in, comments, etc. You can also burn slideshows.
The external HD is the easiest and quickest way. By backing up the entire iPhoto Library folder (i.e. copying it to the external HD and then keeping it current with a backup program like Synk, you can avoid most any catastrophic crash on your HD. I don't have my external drive running all the time. I only turn it on and mount it when I have some backups to perform.

  • How do I get DVD for the Windows 7 that should have come with my new laptop please

This is my first message here so please bear with me. I have just bought a new Lenovo Essentials B570 laptop which has come with Windows 7 pre-installed. Previously I used to buy Dell laptops which used to come with OS Re-installation DVDs which check to see if they are being installed on the hardware it was bought for but would allow us to install the OS on a new hard disk if the original one crashed. Now Lenovo seems to be using a very complicated method to allow buyer's to re-install the OS - they are expected to retain the same hard disk - but what happens is the hard disk crashes and one wants to install the OS along with all the drivers? The Dell DVD allows me to do precisely that. Can I create a similar disk to install the OS on a new hard disk as and when I want/need it please? I have created two sets of DVDs using the OKR software - one set using the 'system presently on disk' and another set for 'resetting to factory defaults' - but from what I have read on these forums these OKR disks would not work if I put a completely new hard disk. So at least if I can get hold of the correct version of the Windows DVD - as I have paid for the license I would be very grateful. Thank you.
    Solved!

    Thanks for the quick reply.
But to me this looks more like a OKR solution and I have already created these Factory Reset discs.
Will these discs work if I have installed a completely new hard disk in the dive? Because that is what I would need to do in the rare event that I have a complete hard disk failure.
What is confusing is the fact that on these forums, I find many messages which indicate that the OKR solution would work only with the original hard disk and it would not work with a completely new hard disk and also that the OKR itself would not be able to change partitions on the hard disk - even when it is the original hard disk. To me this means any disks that are created using the OKR would be useless when the original hard disk has undergone severe change or a completely new hard disk is in its place. Correct me if I am wrong. (In fact I am hoping that I am wrong in that assumption.)
My laptop has a 750GB hard disk and it has Windows 7, 64bit. I actually want to make this into a dual boot machine with KUbuntu. What is stopping me attempting that is the fact that C drive has bigger partition and D drive is a smaller partition (too small in fact - 30GB these days is practically nothing) and I learn that any modifications I do to drive partitions would render the OKR non functional.
I can live without this simplistic one key rescue operation if I have recourse to the Windows 7 DVD and that is why I asked the question.

  • How to create a dvd for stereo and 5.1

    Hi to everybody
I wonder if I can use stereo files (aiff and wave) to create a dvd that will work with a stereo system and a 5.1 system. I made a dvd before and one of the shortfilms couldn´t be read in 5.1, but the rest worked perfectly, so I don´t understand how it works. Do I have to make a menu for 5.1 another for stereo, or it could work with both?
    Thank you

At product/category/sku level there is a property called template.
Find the property in ACC/BCC and provide all the values including the URL property.
In you jsp, you can use this property from product/sku like the way you retrieve any other property from sku/product.
    <dsp:valueof param="product.template.URL" />
Using that property with <dsp:include> includes that page.

  • Differents dvds for Intel and G4?????

Hi, i have one mac based on intel and a G4, can i install the mac os x updated (10.4) from the dvd of my intel based system into the G4(now it has the 10.3)??????
    Thanks

    The DVDs are different.
Also, It sounds like a risky thing to do, if it doesn't work, it could destroy any info on the G4. It won't physically hurt it though.
Last but not least, the Software Police will hunt you down because Apple's EULA states one purchased system software per one computer.
PS: I was just kidding about the Software Police.

  • Arggggggg!!!!  Bought a secong DVD for MPro and it doesn't fit??

I checked this forum quite a bit before ordering the Pioneer DVR-111D drive to fill the 2nd slot.
The outer door is clearly bigger than the Sony that came with the MPro.
I installed it anyway and almost couldn't get it out as the door seems to catch with the MPro sliding door.
Has anyone else done it sucessfully??
Does it matter which position its in?? (top or bottom)

Removing the faceplate works. Using Option and eject does fine.
Also, I had to set the jumper to "cable select". It came set as "Master".
    Many thanks all...
