DVD Format Issues
I have a two year old Dual Hard disk G5 that I have begun burning DVDs on using IDVD. The DVDs that I am burning NEED to play on PC laptops and desktop machines. So far, the machines that I have tried to play the DVDs on have not been able to play them. I am assuming that many players on PCs don't have the capability to handle DVD-R. I am not sure what format my computer is capable of burning and how it may be possible, if at all, to fix this problem and make it possible to play these discs on the PC. If anyone can give me a quick explanation of this problem it would be much appreciated.
P.S. For the heck of it I even tried playing consumer grade DVD movies on my roomate's PC and the computer also did a horrible job playing THAT disc - so I don't even know where to start.
Thanks
That may be the most important issue, Len!
Windows XP ships with Windows Media Player (WiMP), but it does NOT ship with an MPEG-2 codec. Does this sound familiar? As in, OS-X ships with QuickTime (QT), but QT does not include an MPEG-2 codec?
A critical difference, though, is that WiMP will attempt to play a DVD even though it is incapable of doing so. QuickTime won't even try, but at least Apple was nice enough to give us "DVD Player", crummy as it is.
It turns out that on the DVD-equipped PCs we have at work, there WAS a rather nice DVD player application installed (Cyberlink PowerDVD), but while that program can play DVDs quite nicely, WiMP was still the default application for playing DVDs, and keeps resetting itself as default even though we keep telling Windows to use PowerDVD instead.
So look around on the PC. This doesn't help if you are developing a disc for broad distribution, but if you are in a somewhat controlled environment, the solution might be as simple as adding a desktop shortcut for a working DVD player application on the affected PCs. Launch that (most DVD drives include a (often crippleware) DVD player app along with the drivers) before inserting the DVD, and use it to play the disc.

Just bought a G505 and I need to install Office 2010. The dvd drive does not auto start and when I force the start I get an error message about a format/compatibility problem.
I tried adjusting the compatibility settings but nothing seems to work.
Is Office 2010 not compatible with Windows 8 or is this a DVD drive/driver issue?
ThanksHi amitchell2,

Can't install windondows 8.1 on my macbook pro - format issue
Can't install windondows 8.1 on my macbook pro - format issue
Running latest version of Mavericks.
Followed the exact bootcamp proceduce.
Have official window 8.1 version on cd.
All goes well until I have to format the 65Gb partition. Disk=0 and partition=4
Can't get over it. Altough I formatted it via a hint found on the internet with "dislpart" in NTFS. Wich also went weel and give the labelname "BOOTCAMP". But still no luck.
I have two questions:
1/ How to start my mac again in normal mavericks mode?
2/ How can I overcome the windows installation issue?
Tried already a lot of hints found on the internet.First, make a time machine backup. You will need to erase ands reformat your hard drive. I had the same issue. The issue is that you can't install Windows using bootcamp without having the hard drive formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Do this from disk utility or recovery mode (hold down command and r at startup). Then you have to restore the backup to the hard drive. Then make a usb installer drive with bootcamp and then partition and install. Here's a tip: after you install bootcamp and are in the Windows desktop, go into the installer drive and then go into the bootcamp or support folder, then find a installer that contains the Apple bootcamp drivers. Also, you will need to convert the disk to an iso file. TO MAKE THE USB DRIVE FROM A DISC, USE THIS LINK

Severe pixellation PAL DVD format, Premier Elements 11
Hi I am facing severe pixellation problem on a moving object, when rendered in Elements 11. The source was Sony mini DV captured as AVI through Premier and then rendered as PAL DVD output. Strangely, this shows up when the disc is played on DVD player. Same problem when the MPEG file is played through windows media player or VLC player. Strangely if the clip is imported into Premier 11 then the pixellation disappears. Pls help. The video is uploaded at the following URL:
http://www.sandakphu.com/video/Traintest1.mpg and can be downloaded from following URL http://www.sandakphu.com/video. Pls look at the yellow vertical hendles on the moving train.Dear Steve
Thanks for taking time to respond. Actually the pixellation is coming on the DVD being played thru TV as well. In some cases the picture is very choppy and severe. I repeated the capture using Windows Movimaker - and created a DVDin third party software, no problem there. Secondly, I converted the AVI file into MPEG HD 720 P and then created a DVD using a third party software - no issue tere either. The pixellation and choppy video is showing up specifically when I am writing into PAL DVD format from premier 11. I suspect there is a interlace setting somewhere that I am missing... -
Problem exporting to mpeg-2 DVD format from Premiere Pro CSF
I just purchased Premiere Pro CS5 and have been going through the video tutorials on Lynda.com. I have created a short video sequence and am trying to export it to mpeg-2 DVD format using the default "MainConcept MPEG Video" codec. After the video is exported to my hard drive and imported into Encore, I see all of these green lines and green shading in the video I just created in Premiere that wasn't there when I rendered my sequence in Premiere prior to export. Does anyone know why these green lines and shading are added to the video? I figure I must be using the wrong export settings in Premiere Pro.
I've also tried to export this video segment to Quicktime .mov format using the default DV25 NTSC codec, but when I do this the final exported video has audio only and the video is black (I made sure there was a check in the Export Video check box).
I have a Macbook with 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and Max OS X version 10.6.3 (Snow Leopard) with all appropriate updates. Does anyone have any ideas on how to address this issue or where I can read up on appropriate combinations of video formats and codecs?Hi, thanks for the answer. Yes, I just tried importing the Premiere project directly into Encore using the dynamic link function and it worked just fine. Once I made some changes to the to the Premiere project; however, the green lines appeared when i would preview the project in Encore. Based on your feedback, I won't worry about the extra green lines though and will attempt to build another DVD. Like you said, I think the key is to import the Premiere project into Encore using the dynamic linking.

Which DVD format plays on all domestic DVD players?
Hi guys
As a Mac user for many years, I've had issues in the past deciding if I should burn to DVD-R or DVD+R formats.
In my experience (Wedding videography), I opted for DVD-R because of it's wider compatibility (as it seemed at the time) with domestic DVD players.
I'm now advised by one of my customers that several recently burned DVD-R's do not play in their DVD players (this could of course also be low quality DVD-R media which I'm looking into with our supplier).
However,, I'm wondering if this may be a compatibility / format issue, and if so how best to overcome the situation?
I'm also wondering what format the likes of Blockbuster Video (etc) use for their "Domestic" DVD's which they hire to the public.
I'm guessing this may (now) be DVD-RAM - if so, is this the best format to burn to ensure best compatibility with domestic DVD players?
Any help or info to make my DVD's more widely playable, would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance. No computer produced DVDs are compatible with all players.
If you are making the DVDs yourself DVD-R is your best bet but there will always be the occasional player that does not work.
This is the nature of the beast and you can do nothing about it other than pay to have them professionally made by a process that does not involve burning.
This is called replication and the data is physically and permanently etched onto the disc.
All professionally produced DVDs are made this way.
Computer burned DVDs rely on an embedded dye which alters its composition when the laser hits it and as such are always next best technology. -
Crystal for VS 2010 - formatting issues in viewer (extra space) again
We're having the same problem as the one in this thread link:[Crystal 2008 for VS 2010 - Report formatting issues in viewer (extra space);. There's no resolution in the thread and it's been closed. I'm hoping that creating a new thread may cause someone to answer this problem.
We have a Windows App that we just converted to .NET 4.0 and updated the viewer to the Crystal Reports Viewer in VS 2010. When we open a report that has a large block of static text in paragraphs left-aligned the spacing around punctuation is awful - there's almost a tab's worth of space between the last letter and the period. U.S. looks like US. This happens both with reports that were created in VS2008 and ones that were created in VS2010. It is only a problem in the viewer's display - if we print to a printer or export to PDF the spacing around punctuation is fine. It's also not a problem on our development workstations which are running Windows 7, but is a problem on our test servers which are running Windows 2003 Server. I ran the modules tool and found that the version of usp10.dll does match what the previous thread said it should be and it's coming from the c:\program files\sap businessobjects\crystal reports for .net framework 4.0\common\sap businessobjects enterprise xi 4.0\win32_x86\ folder. On my development machine when I run the modules tool I notice that a second instance of usp10.dll is called which is the version installed with Windows 7. We've tried changing fonts but none of the ones we've tried (originally in Times New Roman, 12, tried Arial, Times and various sizes) have made a difference. We also tried changing the print options with no improvement. The only thing that makes it slightly better is full-alignment but our customer insists that it be left-aligned.Re. the other thread. I never did receive a sample of the report to test with. Perhaps I can get one from you? I need you to ensure that the issue occurs with a "saved data" report. If it does, let me know if you can share it and I'll contact you via email. My comment in the other thread re. available time, priorities, etc., still applies. Also, just to be clear. Service Pack 2 for CRVS2010 is closed now. Thus if I am able to reproduce the issue the fix will be targeted for October \ November time frame - no guarantees though...

FCP and Motion formatting issues with DVCPro 50?
The material is DVCPro 50 NTSC 48khtz. (Item properties indicate that I initially digitized it properly.) My sequence settings are DV50 NTSC 48khtz.
I wanted to create a vignette effect so I exported my clips as a Quicktime (current settings) sequence to Motion. When I was done there I exported the sequence from Motion back to FCP as a DV NTSC movie.
Some of the Motion effected clips will play, look great and then all the sudden I see a black band appear on the East side of the frame. I can stretch it in Motion some but it just degrades the image so I'd rather not.
I'm surely grateful if someone can steer me in the right direction here. Thanks for the workflow tips and suggestions. I backtracked to my original sequence and found the problem originates there. I have narrow black lines on both sides of all these clips. Since I resized a few clips with moves, I didn't recognize the problem. Now that I'm closer the root of it, any suggestions?
By the way, these problematic clips are intercut with no problem library footage that was also shot on DVCPro 50 and I took in on the same deck.
I cruised the forum for any occurence of a similiar issue and most replies seem to suggest a formatting issue. I don't get it since I think I have everything set up correctly. As a precaution, I also tossed out my preferences using FCP Rescue 5.
Welcome to the discussions, splotch.
Not sure what is causing this, but I might propose an
alternate workflow. Have your clips on the timeline
as you wish, ctrl/right click on them and select
Send To Motion.... Click the
embedded and open Motion ticks, give it a name, then
continue. Do your work in Motion, save, quit, and
fall back into FCP. Your clips may lose their
"anamorphicness" on their round trip, but just
ctrl/right click on the clip and select Item Properties/Format..., then
click on the anamorphic button.
Try this and see if you are still getting the same
problem...

ITunes for 64bit Windows 7 Driver/CD/DVD/Drive Issues-
Hi There
I am sure that there are many many users out there suffering the same frustration as me in regard to ITunes just not working properly with Windoews 7 (64Bit).
I have been trying to solve the mystery of "ITunes for Windows Registry Settings Warning When Opening Itunes.
I have tried all the recommended actions to correct this problem without any success and I do mean ALL.
Below is a screen shot of my registry, can anyone see anything wrong with it?
In the meantime (Last four months) I have stopped using ITunes and instead have used Digital 7, this will be my very last attempt to get ITunes working properly, failure will mean consigning ITunes to the same place as any other Software that does not do wshat it says on the can.
I hope someone can help. That's good that it is in device manager, but what about in Computer with the rest of the drivers?
Also, are the drives listed in Computer and device manager or just device manager?
I want to verify if the symptoms are present for a particular software issue before looking at other issues. I really doubt it is a driver issue at this point. If it was, then I suspect the issue would be present from day one.
It could be that the lens has dust buildup preventing it from working properly. They do make CD cleaning kits that have a special CD designed to clean the laser as it passes over the lens. If you happen to have one of these, or access to one, I recommend trying this step to make sure it isn't as simple as dust buildup interfering with the laser.
It could also be hardware failure, but I would like to try a few other steps before coming to that conclusion.
It may be worth reviewing this document as it covers a lot of the most common issues behind DVD drive issues. Feel free to skip any steps you have already tried.
Let me know what happens.

CD/DVD drive does not read all DVD formats and regions
Hi
My Teac-dw-224e-a does not read all DVDs formats and regions.
It does read CDs but no DVDs at all.
Not DVD-R and not even regular DVDs. I have checked the region of the DVD.
I have reinstalled the driver and also tried with different software.
What can I do?
Please help!Hi
It is possible that your DVD drive has wrong region settings.
In this case it is not able to watch all possible DVD movies from different regions.
Of course you can change the settings 4 times. But after this changing the settings are fixed and its not possible to change it anymore.
