DVD frame capture?

I'm looking for DVD player software that has a "frame capture" feature that will run either on Leopard or on my "virtual machine" running Windows XP. On my old PC I ran WinDVD which had a neat "frame capture" feature to save images (necessary for my work). When I attempted to install my old copy of WinDVD 6 I got an error message that said it won't run on a virtual machine. Any suggestions? HELP!

Unless they've changed things, I believe that VLC (http://www.videolan.org/) will do frame captures.

  • Frame Capture In DVD Player?

Is there any way to do frame captures in Apple's DVD Player app? I know you can bring in Preview to Grab the Window, but is there a quick way to do it within the DVD player?

No plug-ins or shareware Apps to do this? I would imagine that a lot of people use this feature. PowerDVD for the PC comes with it built-in.

  • LR 5.5 - Cannot export/publish to HDD or Flickr from video frame capture - "An internal error has occurred: assertion failed"

Basically as the title states, I cannot publish a set of photos that originated as video frame captures, whether to my hard drive or using a service plugin for Flickr. I have tried multiple publish service plugins for Flickr and everything fails precisely the same way. This only happens when I add photos to the collection that are JPG's derived from video, and it only started doing this recently. I have other frame captures that I uploaded just fine, but it appears that nothing from the set I worked on the other day wants to upload. Other NEF-derived photos from the same set work just fine.
All I get is a Warning dialog stating that an error has occurred while the main dialog stops on "Preparing to export...", then it kicks me back with no action taken when I click OK. The status in the upper left says "Updating Published Collections". If I remove the new frame capture photo, it works fine, but as soon as I add one to the collection, it fails to publish.
I updated from 5.4 to 5.5, tried new publish plugins, completely removed and recreated my local profile, reimported my catalog, all to no avail. Everything worked fine two days ago, then when I went to upload my latest edits yesterday, I started receiving the error and have had no luck fixing it.
I used debugView to capture a log as the error occurred, so I can provide that for a developer or support contact if required.
EDIT: I just tried choosing some different photos in the set, and most appear to work, so it is just some particular images that it does not like. I will try to narrow it down.

I narrowed it down to one photo in particular that it does not like. It's not a deal-breaker, but I am still curious what is going on that is causing that one photo being in a set to break the publish process

  • Still frame capture

In FCP10, when looking at a frame of video, I simply want a quick still frame captured. What is the most basic method to do this? Thanks.

Captured where, in FCP or exported? To export use Share save current frame. If it's not there add it to the share button in destination preferences. If you want it on the application use the freeze frame function.

  • Where are still frame captures saved?

When I do a Shift-E to do a still frame capture and export, Premiere Pro cs6 simply saves the current showing frame somewhere. Where is this file saved? Shouldn't there be a dialog box that comes up to show where you might want save the file? This is mysterious and I need help to figure it out.
    TIA,

  • Warning Drop Frame Capture

Alright, here's my scenario: I captured some HDV footage and now I want to capture the same clips, but I want to do it in regular DV. I've gotten the drop frame capture warning and have tried to capture them without luck. Is this even possible because of the drop frame DV and the non drop fram HDV?
    Thanks

If you set the camera to downconvert to DV, you can capture HDV as DV just fine.
    It is a camera setting.

  • Recorder Error - no frames captured

I am running the trial copy of PE 10 on Mac OSX 10.7.2.  My old Panansonic DV is connected through the firewire port and is recognised as device control is working. Project settings are for DV PAL 25 fps. When I play the camera no video is seen in the preview screen and when I try and capture I get an error message on hitting stop that says 'Recorder Error, no frames captured'. I have used the same set up with iMovie 11 and the dv is captured without problem.
I'm more of an Adobe user than an iMovie or iPhoto person so would like to use PE10 if I can get this issue resolved.
    Any suggestions most welcome

DV via Firewire is absolutely perfect for PRE so what you describe is unusual. Using the same cable does iMovie capture the footage? If not it may just be a dodgy cable or connection.

  • How to video frame capture?

What's the best way to capture an individual frame(s) of a video as a jpg file
I read somewhere that you can do this with Quicktime pro, but have not been able to confirm.
there are other software applications available, such as "video frame capture for mac" for $25.
Would prefer some freeware if possible.
    Thanks!

You've posted in the Windows side of these Discussions pages but list a Mac profile.
Open the QuickTime file with the free QuickTime Player.
Position the "playhead" (movie controller) on the frame you want to capture. Right/left arrow keys step one frame at a time.
Command-C (Control-C for Windows) to get a capture. To get a larger sized image use the grow window (lower right corner of the Player window) and drag it down and to the right.
Open an image editing app, size a new document to the dimensions of your capture and "paste". Save as to any format you desire.

  • HD Stop Frame Capture Advice Needed

I am currently capturing a lot of old 8mm and Super8 film using CaptureMate software. However, Capturemate only supports SD resolution and I would like to capture the film in HD.
Would anyone have a suggestion for similar software that would support HDV. Quicktime will capture an HDV video stream just fine, but there is no facility in QT for stop frame. Capturemate works great as it is triggered by mouse clicks. Set up a frame in the camera, click the mouse, capture the frame, move to next frame.... etc.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA

Finally found a video tutorial, and it appears iStopMotion is mouse click on a SMALL button, but I don't think it will work at 8-12 click per second. Besides the HD version does not support HDV, only HDMI input AND the HD version is $499 US. About 12 x what I paid for a SD solution. And + the cost of an HDMI card AND the cost of buying a Mac Pro - about another US$3000 minimum.
I just need a single purpose app that just does frame capture at about 8 to 12 frames per second. No onion screen, no editing, no special features, just simple frame cap with a preview screen. If it works on a G4-733 OS X 10.4, that would be perfect.
    Thanks

  • SHOWBIZ DVD 2 captures analogue video on my E10

Showbiz DVD 2 captures analogue video on my E10.
    Stu

Ivan25 I too would like to capture from my analogue in. I don't think it's right when you get programs with your computer that just don't work as configured.
I don't use my modem that came with my laptop as I have broadband but I'm sure I would take it back if it didn't work, regardless of whether I use it or not.
Something seems to have happened to the ability to capture from the analogue in now that MCE is involved. I know others that can capture from their Toshiba analogue in but they don't have MCE.
I have my MCE configured for use as my TV and don't want to have to mess with the setup each time I want to capture one of my old VHS tapes.
It's also not about buying software as I've tried 5 trial programs for capturing and all of them say that the video in is either being used or not available.
I would be happy if it was only a matter of ending a running process and then restarting it when I'm finished but it seems to be more than that.

  • Video frame capture SW?

I need to capture still video frames from a couple movies to use the graphics for DVD labels. I need software that is freeware or dirt cheap as I wont be doing this again.
Xilisoft.com makes such software but I dont want to spend $30 for something I use once. Its trial version slaps their logo on everything making it useless.
Any ideas? I really dont want to use "Grab" if I dont have to.
    Suggestions?

MPEG Streamclip will do this. It is free from Squared 5.
Drag your file into MPEG Streamclip. Move the playhead to the frame you want. Then FILE/EXPORT STILL FRAME. Select JPEG PNG or TIFF and save to location of your choice.

  • Non Drop frame capture causing out of sync clip?

    Hi, All,
I've been having trouble with sync issues on an hour long tape capture.
The material was captured from a Canon consumer DV cam (z80) using firewire into my powerbook g4. (The material on the dv tape was originally recorded in Video 8mm and transfered to the Canon via firewire from a modern Sony Digital 8 camera.)
The sync on the DV tape looks fine when I play it back through the Canon camera. So I'm guessing that I might be losing sync because the camera is dropping frames that don't want to be dropped. I tried to change the video capture settings to non drop frame (in the device control tab of FCP5's audio video settings preference window,) but as soon as I start the capture from the canon, the settings on my log capture window automatically revert back to drop frame. (I don't know this for a fact, but I do notice that the ":" in the timecode box turns back to ";" every time I start the capture.
Does this sound like it is, in fact, a drop frame problem? And if so, is there any hope of getting a canon consumer camcorder to capture at non drop frame rates?

Well, after trying most of the suggestions here, I did find a reasonably hassle free workaround to capturing the hour and fifteen minute footage of 8 bit 32 kHz video to FCP with minimal sync slippage over the length of the footage.
I finally gave up on capturing the material in FCP and instead hooked the canon z80 up to an old version of Toast Platinum 6 I had on my computer. Toast creates a raw quicktime movie file with the extension .dv. Toast then allows you to edit that quicktime file, add chapters, button pictures, etc. thereby making a new file to replace the raw QT it first created. After some experimentation, I discovered that the original raw QT file Toast creates can simply be dragged intact to the FCP browser window, where it becomes a clip with minimal sync problems. I would caution against trying to use the second improved QT file that Toast creates after you've edited your file, as this second QT movie seems less stable than the raw one it first creates.
A final caveat for Toast users. Make sure you set the preferences so that they don't DELETE the original file it creates. There are settings that will tell Toast to do just that either After a Day, After a Week, When You Close the Program or Never. I'd set that to Never, since it can be highly unpleasant to discover that your program has deleted the very file you were planning to work with.
Hope this is of some help.
Thanks to all who pitched in and offered suggestions. Your help has been invaluable!
I now mark this issue Solved. Or at least as Solved as I plan to get it!

  • VHS & DVD VideoGlide capture has horizontal fuzzy lines

I have imported some footage from my VCR and DVD player. With uncompressed settings and default compression, I always get fuzzy looking footage. The lines are more pronounced when there is lots of movement. I see the lines when VideoGlide Capture is open but not recording. The lines are not present when watching on a TV. The lines are also there when I connect my DVD player instead of VCR. I have reset the settings by deleting the preferences for VideoGlide. It doesn't appear to be the video player. The lines are there - VCR & DVD. I am using a 0x2861 Empia USB capture device.
Any help appreciated. I have 14 days to return the product and would like to resolve this quickly. Do I need to get a refund or would a different hardware/software setup yield better results?
    Many thanks

I want to convert VHS tapes (PAL/UK) to my iMac with the choice of compressed/uncompressed as well as any length of recording (some tapes are 3-4 hrs long. Also, when I looked at the Roxio and Elgato video kits, they seemed to have 640 x 480 resolution. Do they support the correct resolution for TV/VHS? Perhaps someone can explain why this resolution appears to be the default setting for capture.
On a side note, is it better to import VHS at its native 360 x 288 resolution, or that of TV at 720 x 576?

  • Still frame capture script?

OK, I know that this is probably not something that everyone is just yearning for, but I can see it as helpful. So hear me out.
I have a ton of footage (DVCProHD) and I would like to capture a still frame (just the first frame will work) of each clip to use in an editing storyboard. What I want to be able to do is use the stills to match clips to my narration (this is for a docu) so that myself and my assistant editor can keep notes on what we are doing.
Anyway, does anyone know of a way to do this automatically, with a script or something?
    Thanks
    K

Captured where, in FCP or exported? To export use Share save current frame. If it's not there add it to the share button in destination preferences. If you want it on the application use the freeze frame function.

  • DVD Video Capture Software

    Hello,
I have a newbie video question. We have a customer that needs to have an old video edited slightly for upload to the web. I own Premiere Pro CS4, but need to get the video from the original DVD, which contains and Audio_TS and Video_TS folder with associated files contained therein.
In the past, I've had to borrow a piece of hardware that ran from a traditional DVD player to my computer to capture the DVD video, which then would be able to import it into Premiere for editing.
Does anyone know if there is a software that would allow me to avoid the hardware interface between the DVD player to my computer? It would be so much easier to be able to put the DVD in my Mac, and somehow capture the video, so I could then be able to edit in Premiere.
This may not be impossible I don't know, but we don't do much video, and hate to borrow the hardware again or sub it out.
    Thanks for any help.
    Corey

Just a quick follow up to those who read this thread. On my Intel iMac, I ended up using the free MPEG Streamclip for Mac (http://www.squared5.com) to convert the VOB files on the original DVD, and then converted them to quicktime format for editing.
The file renaming mentioned above didn't work for me. I ended up with multiple errors.
The MPEG Streamclip software demultiplexed as Angelo suggested above. While it worked perfectly for me and was free, I did have to purchase the QuickTime 6 MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X (http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A?mco=MTIxODk3Mw) for $19.99.
Before purchasing this component from Apple, Streamclip seemed to import the VOB files off the DVD, but nothing was visible and did not work properly. As a point of note, I'm running QuickTime v. 7.5.5.
Once the QT MPEG-2 component was purchased, downloaded and installed from Apple, Streamclip captured the entire DVD, audio and video, demultiplexed and exported in the format I chose. (QuickTime)
It was then easy to import the QuickTime file into Premeire and the editing began. No hardware bridge was needed to capture the DVD, and it seemed reasonably intuitive.
Though keep in mind, you will likely need to cough up the $20 dollars to Apple for the MPEG-2 component. Before purchasing that component, I couldn't get Streamclip to capture any of my DVDs'.
Hope the follow up helps someone...
