DVD from 720p project

I have a 1280 x 720 HD project (ProRes 422) and need to export for SD DVD in 16x9 letterbox. What work flow will yield best quality in the correct aspect ratio?
My sequence settings: HDTV 720p 16x9 preset; ProRes 422 codec; square pixels; no field dominance.
Have tried various settings but I always get a distorted movie with the wrong aspect ratio. Please help.

16:9 letterbox is a little unclear. Do you mean a 4:3 frame that contains a letterboxed image, or a 16:9 widescreen image?
The widescreen or letterbox display is determined in up the DVD authoring application. You set this in DVD Studio Pro.

Trying to make a dvd from a project and this error message appears .The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-2125)

    Hi
    Error -2125
OK Error code - 2125 usually indicates that the movie is to large.
It use to pop up when going to iDVD !
iDVD - DO NOT CARE ABOUT Gbs at all. I got movies on 500Mb that do not fit and 50Gb that fits nicely.
iDVD - ONLY CARES ABOUT - Duration. Duration is Movie time + MENU TIME. Choice of
menu and animation of this can take lost of "DURATION" 15 minutes or even more.
Choice of encoding method and use of SL or DL DVDs determine the DVD limit.
    iDVD 08 & 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
DL DVDs can store about double of these times.
ALTERNATIVE - The Error Code can indicate that free space on Start-up (BOOT) hard disk is
    less than 25Gb (my minimum)

If you are getting OSStatus error -2125, I've seen this caused by the computer display sleep settings.
Try changing the sleep settings to never and see if you are able to export.

  • Burning pics to DVD from Aperture Project

I am trying to burn pics to a DVD from an Aperture project(copies for friends who were on the trip). I put in the DVD, open disk utility, select Aperture and everything freezes or slows down to a crawl. It has become so much of a problem that I am now loading the pics onto an old PC and burning the DVDs that way. Any thoughts/insights/or suggestion would be appreciated.

If you are talking about a data DVD, and not a video DVD slideshow, then the proper sequence is to put the disk in, then in Aperture select all the photos, and then use Export and target the DVD disk. Would be the same if using a CD, and only enough photos to fit on it. Then when it completes the Export, click to burn the DVD.
More info about what you are trying to do, please.

  • How to make a self-playing DVD from FCP project of 75 minute film.

A Quicktime film has been made in Final Cut. It is about an hour and 15 minutes long. It needs to end up on a self-playing DVD.
Maybe this is a question for the FCP boards (or for DVD SP, which I don't know well): What's the approach to get this project to DVD?---having it look best on the DVD. Are there compression best practices?

Or you may be able to make a Kiosk mode DVD from a QT file / folder using iDVD. (btw ...I've done this successfully thru iDVD6 but I have not yet tried it under iDVD08):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4764361&#4764361
Please note that this approach is the only way I know of to make a DVD (w/in iDVD) that plays by itself and with no menu whatsoever. Hence the DVD will always play in a continuous loop until you press stop or eject on the remote. Or if you prefer you can also use Roxio Toast which has a similar feature.

  • Problems encoding a DVD from FCP project

I'm trying to create a DVD from a short 3min project I just cut in FCP 6. It is an HD project and when I do a straight QT export the file is about 1.2 gigs and looks great. However, when I try to use compressor to make an MPEG, it may come out looking fine on my computer, but when I burn the DVD it looks blockly and pixelated. I assumed I'd lose some quality going from HD to SD, but this isn't looking right. Even simple the white text supers come out looking bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    iMAC   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Judge the quality on a TV, not your Mac's display...
Use the high quality 90 minute preset for MPEG (DVD) production, but change the motion estimation to Better from Best... try that seems to me it looks better.

  • Create a dvd from past project and event moved to external hard drive

i have version 7.04 DVD. Moved several projects and events to external hard drive. How do I go to "existing dvd projects" and create a dvd from a completed past dvd project? do i have to move the project and event back to the iMac hard drive..thanks

A iDVD project contain links to the various elements you have used to make the project. Unless you have actually saved the project as an iDVD Project Archive (an option under FILE in iDVD) which can be a very large file because it actually contains all the elements used in the project with adjusted links, simply moving a project (and/or elements used in the project) breaks all the necessary links. Sometimes you can reestablish the links (iDVD usually gives you a chance to try), but it can't always be done.
    Good luck.

  • Dynamic Link (Adobe Premiere Pro to Encore) issues with burning a DVD from the project file

    Hello,
I am running Adobe Suite CS 5.1 on my Mac:
    2.8 GHz Quad Core
    6GB Memory
I've been having issues with a few projects; using Dynamic Link, directly from my project in Premier, to send them to Encore:
When attempting to burn a DVD, Encore will 'hang up' and not burn; I rarely burn to DVD, usually I'm always encoding for web, and just always use the 'default settings' in Encore.
    A few things to note:
*In my project I'm using MOV files, from a Canon 7D, and MP4 files, from a Sony EX-1.
*I am working off of 3 separate hard drives; very large projects with over 5TBs of media files.
*I noticed that after inserting a DVD, it caused one of my hard drives to eject; this happened once, as far as I know.
*This only happens when I use Dynamic Link to send to Encore, via my Premiere Pro project file.
*My Project settings are always: XDCam HD-1080p/24p
    Please help.
    Thanks

So you must downrez at some point in the workflow. Some users have problems and/or think they get better quality out of direct PR/AME exports than using DL for this purpose.
I would test the workflow by creating three short test sequences - one with a clip from one camera, a second from the other, and a third with both in a sequence using the same settings you are using in your edit. I would use the "drag a clip" to the new item method for making each of the first two sequences. By short I mean 30 seconds to 2 minutes with a mixture of still and action.
Export using whatever method you pick of those recommended, but use CBR 8 instead of VBR etc. Bring the resulting files into Encore. Yes, look at the files exported on the computer, and look at Encore preview, etc, but also burn to a disk and watch on multiple TVs. There are lots of issues in best quality.

  • Imovie09 Burning to DVD from HD project file

I have just burnt a HD edited imovie project file to a DVD using the 'large settings' in IDVD after exporting to media browser. The results when played on a DVD player are extremely low quality. There appears to be a considerable patterning affect on the pictures. The same poor quality is apparent when playing the DVD on the macbook. Playing the AVCHD project in Imovie is fine. Can anyone help with this, or experienced the same problem? I have just upgraded to Snow leopard, and have produced DVDs before using Leopard and Imovie with the same settings. Thanks

  • Burn a PAL dvd from ntsc project

I have an NTSC project with all ntsc media and would like to burn a PAL dvd. what is the easiest way to do so. I converted the media to pal and was hoping to do a 'save as' on the dvdsp project and just change it to PAL but it won't except the media.
    thanks

    dvdsp 4, 2.7 dual g5.

It makes sense that a PAL DVD project wouldn't accept media that's already compressed to MPEG2 in NTSC format. When the DVD is built, all it does is multiplex the audio/video. It doesn't change the compression or frame rate or size.
You'd probably need to recompress the original edited source video in Compressor to PAL format. Once you select a preset in Compressor, you need to change the Video Format from Automatic to PAL. Select the preset and in the Inspector, click the Encoder section, then the Video Format tab. Then you'll see the Video Format popup menu where you can change it to PAL.
One other thing to keep in mind: It might be a waste of time to convert it to PAL since most PAL DVD players can convert NTSC format DVDs on the fly during playback. I send NTSC DVDs to Hungary all the time and they have no trouble playing them with typical consumer PAL DVD players.

  • IDVD is missing in my Mac pro. How do I burn a DVD from iMovie project?

I have a new Mac pro and prepared a project in imovie. When I activated the share button for iDVD in iMovie, the application was not found. Any idea on how to burn my movie project to a DVD?

If you are still within your 15 day return period,  nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  (Ask to speak to a senior advisor.)

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk (don't get the download) for about $39.

  • PLZ HELP.. How can i make dvd from FCP project..

    Can someone plz help..
I have FCPPRHD and DVD Pro..
I got lost trying to make a dvd out of fcp project
Can someone plz help in easy 123.. steps how to make a dvd for my client to view..
    Thnx ever so much
    awaitng ur reply

I don't want to sound too harsh, but you really need to read the manual and do the tutorials.
You shoot, capture and edit in FCP. You export that to MPEG2 using compressor and you import the resulting video and audio files into DVDSP. You add a menu and set up buttons to get to the footage, and you set up navigation so that your client can get back to the menu at any time. You build and format that (i.e. burn the disc).
That's the process, but it is very much more detailed than any of us could write here.... it's all in the manual and tutorials

  • Ntsc dvd from pal project

I am working in an off-line HD PAL project (at DNxHD 36) on Avid Media Composer and I need to create a SD DVD to send to the US. I exported my sequence as PAL QT and now I've brought it into Compressor on my Mac but I'm a bit overwhelmed by the format conversion options. Any ideas about what to use would be gratefully received. I have DVD Studio Pro + Toast 8 too.
    Thanks

In Compressor 2 (at least the one on one of my machines) in settings->Apple-Advanced Format Coversions you will see options for PAL/NTSC and you can start there and convert to the high end NSTC then encode to m2v. You should see some HD Uncompressed formats that should work to make a good self contained movie then encode that to m2v. I found the two step process as oppossed to sending straight to NTSC m2v (or really PAL) seems to work a bit better quality wise.
Definately test on short sections if you can to tweak because the converions can take a long time depedning on the machine and length of material.

  • Burn dvd from existing project

How do I reburn an existing peoject that shoes on the time line. When I try to use dvd it says there is an error creating disc image?

If your DVD won't burn, it probably means you have some corrupt or incompatible footage in the timeline somewhere. Check the format of your clips carefully and make sure they are correct for FCP X.

  • I've been trying to Share Burn DVD  from the project area

In Final Cut Pro X, it is freezing about half way through the process.  The process appears to be under way, but in the morning I still don't have a disc.  I've updated final cut and restarted the computer with no change. Still freezing during the disc burning process.
Any ideas on how to solve my problem? Should I try sending it to compressor because I thought I would omit this step on this particular project because it is 3.74 GB in size, and a pretty straightforward simple project.
    thanks for any help
    Tracy

I am having the same problem, Tracy. In my case, it gets to 95% complete and then just sits there, forcing me to quit. It worked fine before upgrading to 10.0.5.

  • How can I Burn the Best Quality DVD from a project in i-movie 06' HD?

Hello I shot a sort film with a Cannon HV-30 HD camera, edited it in i-movie 06 HD, it looks amazing! However I am a bit confused on what setting to burn it at in I-DVD...Best Quality or Best Performance? I herd it will not burn in HD so what is the next best? The short film is about 14 minutes long. Any advice would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Steven

    "Best quality" of course.  ;-)
"Best performance" is just a faster burning/encoding process. The playback quality is a little lower than "Best quality". Since you burn once and play many times, go for "Best quality".
