DVD from iDVD won't mount

I made a project in iDVD, burned it and now it doesn't show up (mount) on my desktop when I try to view it on my iBook. But it DOES play in a regular DVD player.
Anyone have an idea why?
Thanks in advance.
Randy

Hi,
I`ve got the same problem. DVD format is -R or -RW, plays on my old G4 and any other stand alone DVD player, it was created with my new Power MAC Dual 2,3 Tiger 10.4.1 DVD Player 4.6.1, newest iDVD. So the DVDs play anywhere, except on the computer they were made with. This is a bit strange, the update of DVD player that should help this problem did not change anything.

  • DVD from iDVD won't play on DVD player

I have made a movie in iMovie with pictures and videos from a vacation. When I was finished in iMovie, I exported the movie to iDVD.
In iDVD I made a menu for my DVD.
I used a Memorex DVD-R disc to burn my DVD on, but I now have a problem. The burned DVD will only play on computers (Macs and Windows), not on regular DVD players. When I try to play the DVD on a regular DVD player, the TV just displays an error message.
    Does somebody know what's wrong?

It sounds like a burn error-rate problem. Unfortunately, iDVD doesn't directly give you the option to burn a disc at a low burn rate to greatly reduce such errors.
What you must do is a two step process:
Step one. 'Burn' a disk image of the completed project to your hard drive - it's an option under FILE. After the disk image is complete, double-click on the disk image icon to mount it on your Desktop and use Apple's DVD Player application to view the image to make sure it plays correctly (File>Open DVD media).
Step two. Use Apple's Disk Utility application or Roxio's Toast Titanium to burn the disk image to writable media. Use a low burn rate - no higher than 4x, but I like to use 2x. See Burning a disk image file on a CD or DVD in Mac OS X at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006
Also, Memorex may not be the best media choice. Verbatum seems to have a good reputation and I like Maxell.

  • DVD+R DL won't mount...on 3 different drives!

    Yikes!....Help!...I'm really stuck....
I've read a lot of the posts here regarding DVD's that won't mount and thanks in advance to those who've offered help. Hope you have some suggestions for me. Here's the deal.
About 4 months ago, the disk, a Memorex DVD+R DL, was successfully burned on my G5, using 10.4.11 for burning. And I was able to mount and read it a couple of times. It's a data-only archive disk of old files.
Over the past month, I've acquired a MacPro 2.8G 8-core (10.5.6) and a MacBookPro 2.61G Core Duo (10.4.11). And this disk will not mount on any of these 3 machines...not the MPro, not the MBPro and not the G5 that it was originally burned on! All 3 machines yield the same result...they kick the disk back out with out any messages..."error" or otherwise. There doesn't appear to be any significant scratching or degradation on the disk.
I've searched the net for a "Mac DVD data recovery" program but;(a.) haven't been able to find one....they're all PC and (b.)don't really see how any software app could "deal" with a disk that won't even mount!
I've had a look at the "upgrade the firmware" options, but it would seem strange that the firmware would be the problem on all 3 different drives.
I'm down to contacting a Pro Data Recovery company, but that'll be expensive!
So any and all suggestions will be HUGELY appreciated!
    thanks,
    b myers

The usual problem with Memorex DVD's of any format was they didn't burn period, so well done getting one to burn, AND a DL no less. I would try an external DVD burner from LaCie (or LG which makes a good USB one), or even a Windows box to see if anything can read it. A PC with EZ CD Creator or Nero could image and burn on a decent brand of DL (e.g. Verbatim) or even a USB drive.
Cheaper alternative is a 2nd non identical brand drive in the mac Pro, as they do take two.
Diskwarrior is not an option for something that isn't seen and thus is unable to be mounted by the filesystem.

  • DVD-Ram disks won't mount on Dual 450 - help!

I've got a particular and pressing problem. I'm an audio engineer among other things. I have a lot of files archived temporarily on DVD-Ram disks from my old Dual 450. I have to retrieve some files pronto but suddenly the DVD-Ram disk won't mount. The drive spits out the disk as soon as I insert it. It will mount CDs but not these DVD-Ram disks. Please help. I need to back these up off of thse old disks. But more urgently I have pending sessions that require I get some files from these disks. This happens both under OS 9.1 and 10.2.8 the last revisions of this computer I did. But it used to work until a year or so ago.
I have so far repaired permissions, used Disk Warrior and sprayed around the dusty drive with compressed air. It seems that perhapos a mechanism is loose springing the disk out when it's not immediately recognized as a CD or DVD-R.
    Help!

Probably your best bet is to dismantle the drive and try manually cleaning the lenses, which has made a difference for some users.
Other option is to replace the drive with a new one capable of reading (but not necessarily writing) DVD-RAM media. LG-4163B is one such drive, Pioneer DVR-110 can also read DVD-RAM. These drives are under $40 online in the US.

  • I'm trying to burn a dvd from idvd but I keep getting error message, broken assets, but when I check my drop zones and their content there's no error messages on any of them?

I'm trying to burn a dvd from idvd but I keep getting error message, broken assets, but when I check my drop zones and their content there's no error messages on any of them?

    Hi
And if You change view - in main "window/view field" so that You see the box-plot structure.
No exclamation marks there either ?
and non at the front page ?
iDVD do not copy Your material - only points to where it is stored. So if on any external hard disks, USB-memories, CDs or DVDs are missing - assetts are broken.
Or if You changed location of any material or directed iPhoto or iTunes or GarageBand to a new Library - Then iMovie/iDVD also get's lost.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Why won't my DVDs from iDVD play on my Macbook Pro?

I have made over 3 dozen DVDs from home movies using iMovie and iDVD. They have all played fine on my Macbook Pro. For some reason now, any movies I make and burn using iMovie and iDVD won't playback on my Macbook Pro, but will playback on my wifes Macbook or our DVD player or a windows computer. What is going on?

I am having the same problem and it is extremely inconvenient and frustrating. Here's what is happening to me:
I am a Film and Video Studies major at George Mason University, so I use Final Cut Pro a lot, everything works fine with that. I export it to Quicktime and go through the regular procedure of putting in on iDVD. My friend was working on a project and I told him I would help him out by making him a DVD as a part of his final project. So I made the DVD using iDVD in the computer lab, same operating system, same software. I used the type of DVD's I used before so that's not it. After I burned it, I took it back to my dorm and tried to watch it, instead of opening the DVD Player application it opened iDVD and asked me if I wanted to start a new project.
    Anybody know what's going on?

  • My imovies no longer show up in media options when i am trying to make a DVD from iDVD.

it says "to se imovie projects here, use imovie 3 or later..." but i have not changed anything. even more odd, when i tell it to look at an external drive where i store old imovies it sees only a few of the many i have there. it's like the extensions of some movies got changed or something. help please and thanks.

Where do I find the idvd icon so I can burn a dvd?
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

  • What does error message when trying to burn DVD from iDVD mean "not enough disk space to burn the remaining assets"

I created a DVD in idvd and now when trying to burn to DVD using external burner, I get the error message
"not enough disk space to encode the remaining assets". I am using a brand new blank DVD.
I have read the help info on computer but hasnt proved helpful.
    Any suggestions?

iDVD requires a fair amount of disk space to carry out the encoding process; depending on your project, you may need to have over 25 GB free space on your startup hard drive.  How much free space do you have?

  • Blank DVD-R's won't mount even though compatible with system

Trying to copy just a couple  photos onto disc for a resume. Blank DVD-R will not mount on screen. They are accepted then rejected. Old DVD-R with information WILL mount, as well as CD-R's (audio). Using a fairly new MacBook Pro. Have checked HELP sections and computer system is compatible w/ DVD-R. So the disc drive(?) works but something that has always been very simple to do is not working. Am I using the wrong DVD? Have used this in the past so I'm confused. Any suggestions much appreciated since I need to get this done & mailed off ASAP. Thank you!

Once in a while few blank dvds may go bad.
Try to clean them or try a different batch.

  • Problems burning DVD from iDVD disc image

I'm burning a disc image onto a DVD using Toast and can't seem to get the disc to automatically start or be read by either my home DVD player or my Powerbook G4 (through DVD player). I'm a little unclear if I burn the .img folder onto the DVD, the mounted drive containing the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS files, or the AUDIO_TS, VIDEO_TS files themselves. I've tried all of these and none have worked, which made me think that it was something wrong with my DVDproj file from whence the disc image was made.
Do I have to have something in the box labeled "Drag content here to automatically play when disc is inserted" in teh MapView? I'd prefer it to just bring up the DVD menu.
    Thanks!

    Pre edit:
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save as Disc Image...
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • DVD from PE9 won't play in computer let alone another DVD player

I produced a 7 minute video in HD. I can play it on my computer either as HD or at standard res from files produced via the "Computer:Export files..." on the Share menu. I need to produce a standard NTSC DVD and when I burn using the "Disc: Burn DVD..." I get a message that the burn has been completed successfully. Yet the DVD will not play on my computer if I reinsert in in the same drive I just used to burn it, and won't play in a regular DVD player either. The computer doesn't even see the disc if I search for it. I've read a lot of stuff about DVD-Rs and booktypes and bitsetting but this doesn't seem to apply here since the computer can't read its own disc. Burning a copy of the files burned to folders doesn't work either. The DVD burner burns everything else just fine. I am using DVD+Rs. Would it make any difference if I used DVD-Rs? Or is there anything else anyone can suggest? I am using Windows 7 Professional. Thanks.

    >burning to a folder
If you are able to write (not burn) the folder structure to your hard drive, you may use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or folders or ISO to disc
Put a commercial DVD in your drive and take a look with Windows Explorer to see the folder structure and the types of files... and make sure what you write to a folder from PE is similar

However, when attempting to mount a blank DVD, it ejects after 10 seconds or so, regardless if I use a burn application or the Finder...
