DVD Image FIle Starts Late When Played

Hi All, I am not sure if I am posting this in the proper forum, so pardon my ignorance. However I seem to have a strange problem. I have a DVD that I made of myself teaching to some clients. I wanted to duplicate that DVD so it could be distributed. Here is what I did:
1. Insert DVD into drive
2. Open Disk Utility
3. Select DVD (not drive, but actual DVD)
4. Select New Image
5. Select DVD/CD Master from Context Menu
6. Hit Save and then it creates a CDR file
Next I wanted to create a duplicate of the DVD (CDR file), so I did the follwing:
1. Inserted blank DVD
2. Opened Disk Utility
3. Selected the CDR file
4. Selected Burn
The DVD mounts when finished and actually plays fine... There is one problem however, and that is starts at about 1 minute into the recoding and not at the start. Anyone know why?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Thank you for that information... However, it exhibited the same problem on a DELL Latitude laptop. When I inserted the DVD it started playing somewhere around the 1 minute mark.

  • Why do my DV files look better when played in MPEG Streamclip than iMovie?

My home movie DV files look washed out (compared to what my tapes looked like I played them on the TV years ago) when played with both iMovie '06 and iMove '11. The claim has been made that if I retransfer my tapes using iMovie '06 (rather than '09, which I used last time, or '11), there will be a dramatic improvement in the visual quality (and there will be some unspecified benefits if I set the dial to 48K audio). HOWEVER, if I play the files I already have in MPEG Streamclip, the visual quality improves substantially without any retransfer. Here is my question: Why? Why do my iMovie-imported files look better in MPEG Streamclip than in iMovie?
Here is my layman's answer: algorithms. When MPEG Streamclip encounters the exact same arrangements of molecules (or whatever), it has some plan for what to do with them that is smarter than what iMovie does. Is this another sign or way that iMovie is not well suited for DV?

Please go to my website where I have posted new instructions on working with DV.
This keeps both interlaced fields from FireWire capture through to a DVD. All the lines means no lost quality when editing DV or Digital8.
It also solves the washed-out color problem.

  • HELP...DVD image file compression settings for youtube.

HELP...I am mounting a DVD Image from a file on the HD. I would like to compress to use on Youtube.
What are the best settings? I have a account with YT which allows for more than the 15minute standard. I will be uploading 2hrs worth at times
Can I batch compress several mounted images?
I'm using Compressor bu if it is easier I have Handbrake and Mpeg SteamClip.

Compressor has a preset for youTube videos... Pick the one that closely matches your video:
Compressor YouTube settings has Frame Reorder set to on by default. YouTube doesn't like Frame Reorder, set it to off. Here are YouTube guidelines for Video set to them:

  • Help: Creating, Mounting and Viewing a VIDEO CD/DVD image file...

    Hello everyone.
Well, here's another question... I have a 1.5T RAID 5 system for the Mac. On the PC, I put most of my CD / DVD movies/videos on the hard drives as a disc image. That way I have full access to my library without using my DVD drive.
I would like to do the same with Mac OS X. I have used the disk utility in the Utilities dir to create both a .dmg and a .cdr image of a DVD movie. I am unable to get any software play the image. Is this possible on the Mac? What do I need to do this, and how is it accomplished.
Thank you very much in advance.

    Kay:
Thanks a bunch for the information. I downloaded MTR, and it worked flawlessly! I can now use VLC or QT7+MP2 to view my DVD movies on the Mac from a file on my HDD.
Again, thank you for the information.

  • Prevent DVD player from starting up when I insert a DVD

I know that I can setup DVD player to not start playing a DVD when one is inserted, but how do I prevent it from even starting up whenever I insert a DVD?

Open System preferences, select CDs & DVDs

  • Image files are missing when trying to import

This only started happening recently, and it doesn't happen all the time, but occasionally when I try to import images, the "Finder" section on the lower part of the Import screen doesn't show any images available for import. It will show me the folder hierarchy, but when I navigate to the folder that has the images I want to import (usually a folder on the desktop) the folder is "empty" in Aperture, even though I'm 100% sure the files are actually sitting there. (I'm currently working with JPGs and TIFFs because //cringe// there's no d7000 support yet....but that's a post for another thread.)
I should mention that I haven't seen this problem when I try to import directly from an SD card -- it only occurs when I try to import from a folder that's on my local HD.
    =|

Closing the import browser can help, as long as you have switched to an import source directory (which Aperture remembers) before closing it.
In my library I narrowed it down to very specific conditions to cause the hangup. I'm able to reliably reproduce the problem or avoid it based on the following procedures, which assume that I'm going to import from folders already in my filesystem (not on a connected camera.)
I thought it might have to do with which is the currently selected destination Project, Album or Folder when the Import command is initiated, but this doesn't seem to have an effect.
Instead, in my system, it depends on the presence of problematic non-JPEG files in the source directory. Some of these are very large .TIFF or .PNG scans, and if Aperture is not able to read them (and generate a preview for import) in a certain relatively short period of time - likely because they are bigger than 300MB - then the problem file and all those following it remain as dotted-outlines with no previews.
Once it's hung loading these big files, switching to other source directories yields all dotted outlines - no previews - for a very long time; and Aperture continues to display "Loading Assets", but eventually the normal jpegs in those source directories will show a preview. After that you can navigate to any other source directory and see previews +as long as those directories don't contain "problem" files.+
When it's hung loading large previews, closing and reopening the Import browser won't help. When I've switched to an unproblematic source directory and it's recovered, it doesn't matter.

  • Why is image file size increasing when changed to CMYK?

When converting the colour of a Jpeg to CMYK in Photoshop CS5 the file size is increasing.
The original image is 352KB and after saving as CMYK it is 2.1MB
Why is this happening and how can I stop it?
I'm using a lot of images for a print project so need to keep file sizes small with resolution of 300dpi. The image dimensions are really small, only about 30mm high so they shouldn't be this large a file size
I am using a clipping path but this doesn't seem to be effecting file size (I checked by saving it as RGB with a clipping path which stayed small, and by saving one without a clipping path in CMYK which was huge)
    Thanks

    Two things may be happening:
    1)      you may be making the file pixel dimensions (width and height) larger due to the 300 dpi requirement.
    2)      CMYK files, with 4 colors per pixel, are expected to be larger than JPG files, which are 3 colors per pixel and the data is compressed in a way that throws away information.
You will not get CMYK files anywhere near as small as JPG files, as you are finding.   If there are compression options available when you save the file, perhaps those can make the files smaller.
What pixel dimensions is the original JPG and what pixel dimensions are the CYMK files?

  • What file was requested when play() is ran on the client

I have been looking for a way to tell what file was requested from within a VOD app when a video is played.  I want to use the file name for something else but I dont want to have to send it with a second argument in connect().
Is it possible to tell what file is requested??? If so how can I do this??

well to do so you will have to write server side code to look at the stream and then request
the name its in the serverside language refrence.....after you get the name you will have to call to the client with the name.....sending the name through oncConnect probably has the least over head.

  • Final DVD made in iDVD skips when played back

Made slide show in Final Cut Express.  Exported as a QT movie and placed it in iDVD.  When I play it back it pauses and skips in certain spots.  I also have video on this movie and it paused on it also.

The usual causes would be poor media (like Memorex or TDK) and/or burning at a high sped (8X or higher).  Use Maxell or Verbatim and burn at a max of 4X.

  • Render file wrong size when played back thru windows media.

Odd one must be a bug.
I render a project that is 1 hour and 18 minutes.
Upon looking at it in windows explorer it claims it is 56 minutes long. I get same result in windows media player. When I bring this file into PPCC it says it is 1 hr and 18 mins.
Ok. Is someone playin a trick on me here. Or do I have ghosts?
    Help. : /

Is it possible that Premiere Pro is interpreting it at a different frame rate thatn Windows is seeing it?
What is the actual frame rate and what does Premiere Pro say it is?

  • Unusual Bug when creating pdf from image files

Hi I have a very mindboggling problem which I cant seem to get my head around.
basically I am trying to create a pdf using a large amount of image files, these images are scans of pages of a book. so I have been trying to create a pdf file from these images, and everytime i try, it all looks ok except for one page which comes up smaller in size than the rest which is a big problem and very unusual. If I change the view of acrobat so that it shows two pages at a time then this is clearly visable where one page is normal and the page next to it is like a third of the size. Ive checked the image file properties for that page and they are more or less the same as the rest, the dimensions of the image file too, but when I add it into a PDF it seems to shrink in size, any ideas as to why? any help would be much appreciated! (and I hope what I said made sense lol )
    Thanks

  • Can't switch buttons when playing on a dvd player

I searched the discussions and was unable to find an answer to my problem.
How do you get the dvd to select different buttons when played on a dvd player? When I play the dvd on a computer the buttons are highlighted when the mouse is placed on them, but when I play the dvd on a dvd player, I can't get it to navigate through the different buttons on the menus. I can only select the first button on the page. I'm sure this is a simple fix, but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

Choose the button and go into the advanced tab in the inspector. You can then set the Up, Down, Left and Right function for your dvd buttons. DVD SP will set it up automatically if you like BUT if you have a more complex menu you can set your button navigation manually. Manually gives you a little more control and creativity. When you simulate in DVD SP the buttons will highlight as if on a computer if you use your mouse. If you were to use the button keys (up down arrows) in the simulator you would notice they don't work either. Set you button navigation in the advanced tab in the button inspector...

  • Can't open disk image file

I saved my iDVD project as a disk image onto my hard drive. All of the encoding took place as if I were burning it to a DVD disk. After the encoding was finished, two icons popped up on my desktop: One with a .img extension, and one with a hard drive type image with only the project name and no extension. When I try to open either one of them, my project does not come up. The .img file is totally empty. The other file, the one named "my project name", has an Audio_TS folder which is empty and a Video-TS folder that contains six files, all of which require a "choose application" to open. I tried iDVD as an application, but that didn't work. How do I get my iDVD project to open so that I can burn a DVD disk from it? Right now, the two icons on my desktop are useless.

This is the mounted disk image file and can be played with Apple's DVD Player application. BTW, the AUDIO_TS folder Should be empty - it's not used in video DVDs.
