Use the Export to QuckTime option and select the DV codec at the next stage. This will give you a .mov
file, instead of the .dv file you currently have.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • DVD importing to iWeb

I have several DVDs created with iMovie which no longer reside on my computer itself. How do I get these DVDs imported back into iMovie so I can manipulate them and publish them on iWeb? Thanks

Google for an application called 'Handbrake', it will allow you to rip the contents off your DVD's into a format that can be loaded in to iMovie.

  • Classic music DVD import to DVDSPRO?

    Hello every one.
I have a lot of music videos with opera, symfonic music and so on. I want to make one dvd with the "best" tracks and use it for my students. How do I import this tracks to DVDSPRO or Final Cut Pro?
Do I need a A/D converter or is it possible to do it directly from the dvds?
    Thanks. - Ole, Denmark.

Sorry but I think you will not get an answer here, because such answer would violate the Terms of Use (TOU) of the Apple forum. I think that the discs you mention are copyrighted material.

  • ?Difficulty with GET MEDIA in Premiere Elements 4; DVD import

In Premiere Elements 4, I attempted to import video footage off a DVD. I insert the DVD, click on GET MEDIA, then select DVD from the options list.
I get the message ADOBE PHOTO DOWNLOADER HAS STOPPED WORKING; a problem caused programme to stop working.
I have reinstalled Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 and used the repair option with my Premiere Elemets 4 disc with no improvement.I would value help!
    Many thanks!

I would address the OS problems first. When things start going wonky in the OS, there can be a ripple effect, where portions of programs stop functioning, at least as they should. Before you go after those "ripples," try to solve what might be causing them.
Now for your DVD (after the OS issues are addressed), PE can Import, i.e. rip from many DVD's. However, there CAN be problems with some. PE is working with the VOB's and these can contain more than just the MPEG-2 Video and Audio. They can also contain alternate Audio, Menus and Sub-Menus, Subtitles, etc. These can give even the most sophisticaed ripping software fits. PE's ripping capabilities are limited, though when they work, they work pretty well. Here is a LINK to an article by Jeff Bellune, in the Encore forum. While it's goal is to get DVD material into Encore for authoring another DVD, most applies to getting the material into an NLE, like PE. Here is a LINK to the PrPro-wiki with FAQ's on DVD.
Get the OS issues straightened out first, then take a look at the provided links, in case PE still has problems with the DVD.
    Good luck,

  • DVD Import - Clips Missing

I recently had a bunch of home videos converted from VHS to DVD. I am now trying to import the DVD into iMovie. I created a new disk image and went into iMovie to import the clips. When the import screen popped up showing the different chapters, there is about 25 minutes worth of clips missing. The entire movie on DVD is 1hr 58mins but only 1hr 35mins worth of clips show up when I import into iMovie. What do I need to do to get the remaining video into iMovie? I've tried on 3 different macs and have had no success.

  • DVD Importing Error

    Hi,
I'm using Adobe Premier Elements 4 and am trying to import a DVD that I have filmed myself and am getting Error Unsupported format or damaged file/One of the necessary components may not have been installl...
There are no updates to install, and I've reinstalled the software, what could the problem be?
    Thanks
    Louis

You don't say how you made the DVD.
Was it shot was a DVD camcorder? Was it burned by one of those DVD/VHS or DVD converter devices? If the latter, that could explain the problem. Most of these devices produce inferior DVD files and files that don't load well into video editing programs.
What is your original video shot on? We can probably recommend a more direct route into Premiere Elements.

  • DVD import - selecting language track

I want to import a DVD into PE9. It works OK using get media, but I only seem to have the lead audio track, which is a German language track. Since I don't speak German I'd prefer to use either the French or English tracks, but can't see any way to tell PE to choose one of them.
Is there any way I can either select the track before import, or import them all, then delete the ones I don't want?

This presents a dilemma, if there are several Audio Tracks on the DVD. With just the Import of the VOB's, you will get the Audio from Audio Track 1, and this will depend on where the DVD was authored. The supplemental Audio Tracks will be available on a set-top player, or DVD software player, via either a Menu, or via the Audio button on the remote control.
The two ways to handle this would be to hook up the DVD player to an A-D bridge, connected via FireWire, navigate to the Audio Track Menu, and set that, then cue up the DVD to where you wish to start, and then do a Capture into PrE.
The other would be to use DVD ripping software, to extract everything, including the supplemental Audio. I believe that Video ReDo and DVDDecrypter can do this, but you might want to explore them.
Getting that supplemental Audio is tricky, and much of the success will depend on the authoring of that DVD.
    Good luck,

  • Adobe Encore DVD: Importing 96k/24-bit PCM Audio

I seem to be unable to import a 96kHz 24-bit stereo PCM audio file in to Encore 2.0 - Is there a special way of doing this? Is it even possible?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi
Thanks for the replies. Most of the people who view my videos probably have a DVD-Audio player or a decent DVD-player so I'm not really worried about the audio sounding ugly. Many of the new lower mid-range players have 96kHz DACs in them. I think a few years ago using 96kHz/24-bit for DVD-Video wouldn't have sounded as good. With the newer HD and BluRay players coming out I think they also have 96kHz/24-bit DACs as well.
For Adobe it would be one way to say Encore handles audio up to 96kHz etc... I haven't even looked at CS3.

  • IMovie DVD Import

    So here is the dilemma...
New MAC User, with Canon Elura 100 MiniDV Camcorder. I am trying to make a vacation video DVD to send to family. I imported about 5 minutes of a hike we took into one iMovie Project, imported about 8 minutes of an event we attended into another iMovie Project, and I have one slideshow exported from iPhoto with about 700 pictures.
All told, my 4.7GB DVD is full already. Is this correct? Only 13 minutes of video? How in the world am I supposed to create DVD's from my DV tapes? I'll need 4 DVD's per tape at that ratio.
I did NOT import the entire tape and then clip, I only imported the specific sections, so this is not a clipping issue.
    Please help the newbie! Thanks!

    Hi Brian,
    the German nightshift again...
reading the whole thread again brings me to a point, I probably missed before.
    you're writing, quote:
    ... I'll need 4 DVD's per tape at that ratio...it is almost 100%....
maybe just my bad english abilities and I don't catch it, but:
iDVD uses the best possible "bitrate" (= the math, to convert video to videoDVD) per project... means: a 60min iM project fills a whole disk... a 90min project fills a whole disk... as 120min project.. you got the idea ...
"almost..." - does that mean, it fits? => burn!
sure, iDVD tries to fill ANY disk a 100%... less content = better quality (benchmarks/"switchpoints" are <60/<90/<120min)
and don't care for your next projects with more pictures, more video, more excitement, more special effects... oops... ;-)
just because your 72min fill a disk, does NOT mean, you can not get more onto it... length, not bits.... did I now got your problem?
    rule: stay <120min =>fit.
    helpful? maybe solved??

  • Ripped home movie off DVD; imported it to IMOVIE6, ratio wrong

I ripped a 15 min home movie that had been shot in widescreen from a DVD using HandBrake. It plays in the correct ratio aspect on IDVD player, but when I import it to my Widescreen IMovie project, it imports 4:3.
Is this because I can't increase the size in the Handbrake picture settings prior to ripping?
Why does IDVD Player PLAY the movie in 16:9 but not IMPORT to another application in 16:9?
    Thanks so much folks!

    HandBrake
That's not a good choice if you intend to use iMovie which uses DV as its native format.
Use other apps like MPEG Streamclip (or VisualHub, DVDxDV etc) which can convert straight to .dv with the 16:9 flag set. Then iMovie imports it correctly to a widescreen project.

  • DVD importing into imovie

I was told today at the Apple Store that one way to improve sound quaility with a file I'm trying to import into itunes is to play the file through imovie and ramp up the sound. I was told to take the file created when convereted from the dvd and drop it into imovie. I took the TS video and TS audio file and tried to bring them into imovie 8 with no luck. Is there something I missed ?
    Thanks

See if this web page helps with the answer. I haven't tried it myself:

  • My DVD imports into iMovie keep freezing in playback????

    Hi there-
I have imported a few DVDs into iMovie using Aimersoft DVD Ripper's full purchased version. They were working fine in playback mode, both down in the Event library and up in the project I was editing. But all of a sudden, when it gets to the clips chosen from my DVDs, it freezes on the frame before it and just stops. It won't play any video or audio from the DVDs. I converted them to "mp4 for iMovie" with Aimersoft and then dragged them into my events from my Finder window when they were imported to the computer. Am I doing something wrong? It's pretty urgent that I complete this project so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
    Thanks!
(I am using iMovie on OS X 10.7.4)

    One suggestion...
Right click (or control click) on one of your Event clips from the DVD and see if it offers to "Optimize Media". That should fix it.
