DVD inside iMac won't eject

Hello, I have just tried to eject a DVD on my iMac and the DVD just won't eject in any way. I can hear the sound it does when ejecting, it barely comes out of those two "cushions" in the slot and slips back in. Then my iMac automatically tries to re-eject it, but the same thing happens. It is not possible to grab it, so it just goes out and back in. It is a regular, burnt philips DVD+R.
Restarting it (etc), I just keep hearing the same thing. DVD coming out, and pulled back.
Any ideas, or do I just take it to service?
I am afraid to do so, because rumor has it that the first thing our official retailer in Greece does is format the HDD, even if it is unnecessary.

I found that this to be a mechanical jam and it clearly sounds like it is trying to eject. I gently spread the fuzzy DVD window gap open with a 45 degree rotation of a thin, broad,flat-tipped screwdriver as I hit the F12 button (F12 to initiate eject DVD). This gentle stretching of the DVD window allowed the DVD mechanism to spit out the disc! I had to quickly withdraw the screwdriver to allow the disc to exit. Be gentle so you don't crack the plastic. Try stretching the center first. Try the 1/3 and 2/3 positions next.
I had this same issue last year so I replaced the DVD Superdrive. (not easy for me even though I'm good with tools and it cost over $100) Then found I still had the same problem! A disc stayed stuck in my new drive all year until I recently tried prying the gap with a screwdriver.
I'm still thinking about how to effect a permanent fix for this.

  • HT1379 I have a DVD that won't eject in my iMac intel computer..any suggestions

I put a DVD in mi imac to burn, but now it won't eject, tried a variety of things, but no luck..any ideas?

    Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

  • My iMac will not recognize a blank DVD-R that I am trying to burn. It also won't eject unless I "shut down"

My iMac will not recognize a blank DVD-R that I am trying to burn. It also won't eject unless I "shut down" and restart while holding down the mouse button. Anyone have any remedies?

I ran into a similar (identical?) problem.  I inserted a DVD-R and my imac would not recognize it.  The only way to eject was to do a restart.  I tried some of the SMC reset stuff.  That didn't work.  I came across another thread on macrumors (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=336501)
    that solved my problem.
I have an external Western Digital Passport drive that I use for timecapsule.  It turns out
there are two files that WD adds to the /Library/LaunchDaemons that interferes with the
SuperDrive.  I removed the WD files from the LaunchDaemons directory and everything works fine
now.  Again, refer to the macrumors thread for more details.
The files I removed from the LaunchDaemons directory were:
    com.wdc.WDDMservice.plist
    com.wdc.WDSmartWareServer.plist
..yes I had installed the WD backup software to see if I liked it....I did not, but didn't realize this files would cause a conflict with the SuperDrive.

  • Dvd either gets rejected or won't eject

i just got my mac book pro about 5 months ago. I have recently ran into a problem with my dvd slot where at first when i would insert a dvd, it would automatically spit it back at no matter how many times i re-inserted it back in. But now that it takes my DVD, it won't eject it unless i tilt the whole laptop so that the dvd slot is perpendicular to my desk. It would also make large, deep scratches on my dvd once it's ejected. Please help me. THere may be something wrong inside because i do hear sounds of parts when i tilt me computer and i know that is not right.

Wrong Forum. But, your SuperDrive is messed up. Call Apple Repair.

  • DVD Drive won't eject!!!

I was transferring some files from a dvd I had burned and now it won't eject the disc. When I press the eject button, it ejects, but before any of the disc comes out, it automatically reloads the disc. I've tried restarting the computer, even holding down the eject button when the computer boots up. But in the end, it's the same result. I'M nearly desperate to take it in to be worked on. what should I do????????

This is quite interesting, bear with me.
Apple reseller removed the dust guard because he suspected that was fouling the disc. However he returned the laptop to me minus the guard so there was a great big hole in the side of the case. I complained to Apple and they agreed it should not have been removed without my say so. Apple do not replace this part as its part of the lower case, unless you (me) pays for this repair, (which I find strange as the part was easily removed),
Long story short the lower case is being changed free of charge to enable the dust guard to be fitted.

  • My 24" iMac won't read audio cds--ejects them after about 15 seconds

My 24" intel iMac won't read audio cds. It ejects them after about 15 seconds. I have virtually never played cds on this machine in five years. It plays dads with no problem. Anybody have any feedback. I also saw a fix by deleting some presence files.

I saw this on a forum from about four years ago:
    Trash the following folders:
    com.apple.kernelcaches (from System/Library/Caches
    extensions.kextcache (from System/Library
    CDInfo.cidb (from Home/Library/Preferences
    Restart
    Could this be a fix.
Unfortunately, I can't reset PRAM. I've done it a thousand times over twenty years, but my machine simply boots up without the extra chimes.

  • IMac won't play DVDs but will play CDs

For some reason my late '09 iMac won't play DVDs, at least not often. I was watching a DVD on it yesterday, left the disc in to go downstairs, and when I came back it wouldn't play again. It now doesn't even recognise that there is a DVD in it, but just spits it out again after a few seconds. I imported a couple of CDs to iTunes with it yesterday, it generally seems fine with CDs, but it has a big problem with DVDs. Any ideas on what I can do to solve this?

    Hi Marcus
It sounds like the DVD drive heads have gone out of position and the drive needs to be replaced. Contact your dealer or Apple.

  • I can't eject dvd from imac 27

i cant eject dvd from imac 27 some tips please

Restart and hold down a mouse button. That signals the system to force eject any disc in the drive. If that doesn't work then the drive might of failed or at least the eject motor of the drive.

  • DVD won't eject and MacBook pro 2,16 new

On a new Macbook pro 2,16 last generation the Disk won't eject, I have tried F12 and start but won't come out, anybody had the same problem the MAC try to eject the DVD but it won't come out

I would like to share with you my experience.
Only 2 hours after buying the MBP, I decided to re-install all the system to save space inHDD.
The second disk was stuck, I tried to pull it out without success.
I tried to see whet happened and i concluded that the CD hit the top of the slot.
So I decided to push with my thumb, reasonnably on the right hand side part of the computer (close to the trackpad) to move down the SuperDrive...An it worked.
I have to mention that I trid to find in the NET what was the fittings condition of the SD, and I knew there was some degree of feedom verticaly. I assumed it was just a matter of few millimeters.

  • Really hard to beleive but a new imac won't burn home movies on DVD?

Hi bite the bullet and bought a brand new imac (paid two times the price of a really nice PC) in hopes of owning a computer that would solve all my PC issues. Now that I have it at home I down loaded my family snow board trip from my camera and found out that it won't burn it to a DVD. What? Called tech support and yes it is true imac won't burn a DVD unless you buy ilife $49 and install it. Even the cheapest PC will burn a DVD this is really disappionting.I did see some free third party software and thought about trying it but I really hate to risk adding unauthorized software to my brand new computer. Is there hope on the way in the form of free update or is this what I get? Other than this I have enjoyed using it but this is really a major deficiency and a real disappointment.

I purchased the iLife 11 retail disk (I've seen it for as little as $25 at Amazon) because, in my opinion, there is no equivalent for iDVD's capabilities of adding pzazz to customizable menus/themes - taking your efforts from amateur to professional looking presentations.
And, it is somewhat disappointing since iMovie still has a link to send your movie to iDVD and the idea of being able to produce movies including making DVDs is now being "replaced" by trying to get you to post all your content online (in the cloud). For anyone concerned with their privacy, that is not an option; neither is it for people who may not even have a computer, but would love to be able to see the event they participated in on their TV.
I'd buy the iLife suite and also send feedback to Apple:

I inserted what I thought was a blank DVD-R/W to verify.  It won't eject.
I have an appointment for tomorrow in the evening to remove DVD-R/W disc at the Grove in L.A.
Phone support declined to assist without $19.00 charge.

Restart the computer and hold the trackpad until the dvd is ejected.
    Best.
