It is easy-to-use and the converting speed is fast! Based on my experience, all formats to iPod conversion works well! I found the program can also rip DVD to AVI, DivX, VCD, SVCD and MPEG recently. Let's view the steps.
How to rip DVD to iPod (Windows)
1. Download 'iPod Video Converter + DVD to iPod Converter suite' from http://www.allforvideo.com/download/iPodSuit_r56510.exe ,install and run.
2. Click DVD to iPod Converter component, load your DVD by clicking 'Open DVD' button or choosing 'Open DVD' from 'File' drop down menu. Several titles appear in the list after loading DVD.

3. As usual, the longest title is the main file of the movie. You can remove the title you don't like to convert by choosing the title, right-clicking and 'Remove'.
4. Set 'Subtitle' to what you like. To 'Output Folder', Enter the full pathname or choose the path where you want to save your video files by clicking 'Output folder'.
5. Need not set 'Input settings' and 'Output Settings', just click 'Convert' to start ripping DVD to iPod video files.
Trouble Shooting
If during the converting period, an error message came up that said you did not have some DivX Pro codec supported software installed and refused to go any further, please download the free DivX codec from http://www.allforvideo.com/download/DivX6.exe and install. After installing, run the DVD to iPod converter, click 'Settings -> Output settings', choose 'DivX 6.0 codec' from 'Codec', and click 'Ok', then start converting.
6. Find the .mp4 file that DVD to iPod converter created and drag it into your iTunes library, or select 'Add File to Library' from the 'File' menu and select the encoded movies. Now you can watch it with iTunes or Quicktime Player on your PC.
Tips: Download iTunes 6+quicktime Player package from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
7. Load the MP4 files to iPod by clicking 'File -> Update iPod'. Now, you can enjoy the movies on your fifth generation video iPod anywhere and anytime.

* Load your DVD and start ripping.

Mark, use the search field in the upper right corner. I believe the software you need to search for is "videora". See what you can pull up in the forums using that. That's about all I can do for you as I'm on a Mac. It's basically what I did to get the information to rip DVD's on a Mac using the name of the software for Macs.

  • Finder thinks USB drive is CD, DVD, iPod

I have an external USB Lacie Drive that is partitioned and use for backup with Time Machine (HFS format) and Windows 7 backup (NTSF format), my settings in the Finder are to show only CD,DVD, and iPods, and Network on desktop but the Windows drive shows up on the desktop, and will only be hidden when I unselect CD, DVD, and iPods.
I have trashed the Finder plist, as well as the Desktop, and nothing has changed. Is there another preference file that is corrupted to correct this issue?

I have been having similar problems on a G4; since moving to 10.4 from 10.3.8. I don't know if it was the software or a conflict; after I can't eject the disk, I also can't shut down, log out, force quit. . . . .
I updated the OS, installed a processor upgrade, and a new video card on the same day. It looked like everything worked until I tryed to eject a disk and it wouldn't open the tray.
I end up powering the machine down just to eject a disk. It doesn't matter what is on it, once it is used by any application other than an installer, they stay in until reboot.
I get errors stating mirroragent is not responding most of the time. Sometimes the error cites "dnotifyd" whatever that is.

  • MAJOR DVD-IPOD PROBLEMS!!!!!PLEASE HELP

Hi there, i got a 5th generation ipod for christmas but im having problems getting my own dvds onto the computer to convert, i have a program 2 rip dvds but when i try 2 convert them in quicktime 7 pro, it dusnt work, any help would b appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ipod owner in distress

QT Pro is not a ripper/extractor either. It is a file-to-file conversion application with limited editing capabilities. You need a dedicated rip/extraction program to prepare the data for other applications to work on or one that performs rip, extraction, strip, and conversion in one seamless process. The latter tend to be commercial in nature and have to be purchased but don't suffer the problems of many of the "freebies" you will find avaiable on the internet. Try downloading one of the free trial programs if you want to see the difference. Here is one example: http://www.divmm.com

  • Question: How to convert dvd to mp4

I have tried multiple products at this point to convert files and I'm tired of spending money. Most recent download is the Xilsoft Converter.
I guess I just thought I would have one file when all the conversion was over. I do not of course. (Heck, all the file conversions don't work either...so, I'm even further confused)
Will someone please tell me if it's possible to convert a dvd to one file (just like the ipod store has when I downloaded the Alfred Hitchcock shows--each episode is just one file). I've tried Super DVD ipod Converter--that did not download to computer properly--and I received NO support from them. The sales office would answer my emails by sending them to the support desk--the support desk never responded.
I've tried Videroa without success. I've gone to BitComent. I just don't know what I'm doing obviously.
What website allows us to download ipod ready movies?
Thank you to anyone who can guide me in the right direction and tell me what I should be looking at.

i use a program called ffmpegx, it's shareware ($15) but will work for free with a nag screen. it uses open source unix programs that you can download (the program gives you the locations). the program is awesome, open up any file format, and save to almost any format, it even has a preset for ipod video, and ipod video for tv. definitely worth checking out. i converted the whole season of clone high easily. it even has tools to fix, author, and combine files... very versatile.

  • Ripping Dvd's

I am trying to use my new ipod and i was wondering does Super DVD to Ipod Converter, rip dvds to your computer and then convert them so itunes can use it? Please answer this somebody who know this!!!
      Windows XP

I tries Super DVD-iPod Converter, but with the DVDs I tried (Lion King and Fight Club) it didn't work. As far as I know, these DVDs needed to be Decrypted first. When I tried so, I didn't have sound with Super DVD-iPod Converter.
Cucusoft's converter immediately worked: it ripped the DVD and converted it all at once.
For me it's the best alternative!
Let me suggest you download trials of both programs (just Google both converters and add "free download". You'll find plenty of sites!). When you do so, REMEMBER those are Trial Versions. This implies that texts like "Trial Version" spoil your picture! You have to buy it to remove the texts. However, the trials are good for testing though! (Unless you want to convert complete DVDS in Trial, try to not fully convert the film, but Abort after a couple of minutes. At least Cucusoft's converter provides the opportunity to watch that couple of converted minute!)
    Good luck!

  • Ipod 5gen freezes when trying to play video

My son has a 5th gen 60gb ipod that freezes as soon as he tries to play video on it. This started happening after he installed the latest firmware upgrade. We have deleted the videos, tried reinstalling the latest firmware, reinstalled any number of converted videos, and every time we try it, it freezes up solid. We end up having to use the standard "menu-center button" restart procedure to unfreeze it. Any ideas how to get it to play videos with out completely wiping his ipod clean and starting over with everything?

My problem is similar. My 80G freezes playing video that I converted. These videos used to play just fine. This all started after an upgrade in Dec 07 I think. I have an iphone and the videos play fine and we kjust purchased a 160G and all the videos play perfectly. A huge bummer with the 160G though is that most of the accessories we purchased for the 5th gen don't work with the new classics (ie: Phillips portable DVD/ipod player) - Why did Apple do that?

  • No audio when importing a dvd?

I've tried to import my dvd's into iMovie HD to convert them to M4V for my ipod but haven't been able to get the audio to work. I use mactheripper to rip it then import it into imovie. the video works but no sound. I know mactheripper can't be the problem cause I can open the VIDEO_TS folder with DVD Player and it works fine. any one have this problem and know what to do or have another solution for transcoding DVD's to iPod supportive format?

MTR is a tool for getting rid of copyprotection mechanisms on commercial DVDs... no "importer" nor converter…
there're other, much better, more appropriate tools to convert DVD>>iPod, e.g. iSquint, you should ask in the iPod section of this forum...
to import DVDs into iM simply type "dvd import" into search field, but as said, no need to go the long way through a video-edit app as iM.......

  • DVD Converter. I need Help.

Is the DVD ipod converter recommended? All i have to do is put a DVD disc into the computer and it converts? Someone please explain it to me that would be well appreciated.

I think I understand now.  The DVD has an auto start player (exe) that steps through the video's, html, whatever. Your gonna need windows or you'll be forced to look at the individual pieces seperately.  Html's you can open, idx files are subtitles, the video format is avi I'm guessing or maybe wma.
Try this first, get the VLC player from video_lan.  It's a great tool to have in your toolbox.  It should play the video files at least (including subtitles).  VLC can play almost any format.

  • Cannot connect dvd external

I have an external dvd player that is supposed to be plug and play. My MAC pro won't recognize it. If you look under disk utilities when it is plugged in, it is on the bottom, but grayed out. I can't read any disks, it won't show up as an installed device in finder or on my desk top - nothing...the DVD manufacturer said because it is showing up in the utility, it is a problem with my mac set up...anyone? This is my first MAC.

I have put in DVDs with photos on them - nothing, I have put in blank disks as if to burn something - nothing, I have put in CDs with photos - nothing - these disks have just .jpg images and still nothing.
Even if I put a blank disk in, it still says its waiting for readable media. I have put in both +R and -R disks - and the already burned disks with backed up images - nothing shows up in the finder. Finder preference shows  all Hard disks, external disks, CD, DVD, Ipod, Connected  serves to show
    Disk Utility says:
at the bottom - shows the cd symbol - although grayed out - with
hp DVDRAM GT30L (which is the unit) but it is gray - I can't do anything with it - If I select it in the utility, the only thing it will allow is to open and eject the disk - it says "waiting for a disc to be inserted"

  • Why doesn't my cd/dvd drive appear in my device list?

Hi, im very new here so hi to everyone. Ive recently noticed that my imac 27 doesnt read dvds anymore, it spind away making the right noises put then spits it out, along with that i notice the actual drive isnt in my device list anymore?? this has my head in bits.
    hopefully someone can help me
    many thanks.
    andrew

First see if Finder Preferences has the box checked for... show CD, DVD, iPods checked.
Sometimes dirty DVDs won't read, mine is ery particular about smudges and scratches.
    Try a SMC Reset:
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
It is the 5 second timing that initiates the reset.

  • Macmini stops recognizing iPod,

    Hello everybody,
For no reason that I am aware of my new Macmini has stopped recognizing my iPod and my external HD. Anybody might have an idea as to why and how to correct this? Thanks

Michael, are your iPod and external HD copnnected using firewire or USB?
You might first have a look at the system profiler to see if either device is actually being recognized, just not mounting on the desktop. Go to applications/utilities and launch system profiler. With both iPod and hard drive plugged in, do either or both appear in the list under Firewire (if firewire connected) or USB (if USB connected). If they do appear there but not on the desktop, go to the finder (click anywhere on the desktop), and go to the finder menu, select preferences and ensure there are check marks against 'Hard disks' and 'CDs, DVD & iPods'.
If neither device appears in the system profiler, it means the system isn't seeing them at all, in which case the port(s) through which they are connecting may have stopped. To try and resolve that, do something called a 'PMU reset'. The PMU is the Macs power management system and is reset as follows:
    - Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
    - Wait 10 seconds.
    - Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on the back of the computer.
    - Let go of the power button.
    - Press the power button once more to start up your Mac mini.
Let us know how you get on!

  • Ipod accessory

I own a touch, and purchased a dvd/ipod player for my television, have used it for over a year, and recently it started telling me that my ipod does not support this device, does anyone know of a way to fix this?

Did it stop working after you updated the iOS on the iPod?
Have you tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
    - Went to the player manufacture's  support site.

  • Windows doesn't like my partition. Can't proceed with install.

    Hi
I'm trying to install Windows Vista using boot camp. Using the assistant I've created a Windows partition on my second drive (in bay 2), and then followed the install instructions. After entering the product key and accepting the ToR, I'm then presented with a choice of partitions to install Windows, after formatting as per page 11 of the guide, I get the following error message:
"This computers hardware may not support booting to the disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
If I try again, I then get the following:
" Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation".
I can't then proceed and have to quit. I've tried so many times I'm beginning to memorise the product key
What do I need to do to get over this?
    Regards
    Gazza

Thanks for your reply. Method #2 worked for me, but it did create a little problem in that the Vista HD is showing on my Mac Desktop labeled as "untitled", even though I know I named it Vista HD in both windows and OS X, oddly, the show/hide preferences in Finder only make it disappear if I uncheck the CD, DVD, iPod option NOT the Hard disk option.
    Any ideas?

if your talking about on the desktop:
go to dock, click on finder, go to the menu bar, click on the "Finder" menu, chose preferences. When Finder Preferences opens, click on the "General" icon from the toolbar. Under "Show these items on the desktop:" check "Hard Disks". You may want to check "External Disks," and CDs, DVDs, iPods and connected servers.

  • Videos black and white

    Hi there.
I have a iPod 80GB, and the original iPod AV cables with docking station. I have connected the cables to my home theatre system. Music fine, and I have a cable running from video out on dvd to tv (plasma). Get picture, but in black and white. Have changed all components (dvd, iPod and tv) to PAL, still no change. Any ideas PLEASE!
    Thanks

To everyone else who have tried the PAL to NTSC setting and still getting black and white output.
I had a 60 GB IPod Video which I bought the A/V KIT. I set the TV out to ON made sure it was set to NTSC, even tried the S-Video Cable which I bought at Radio Shack. Tried several different TVs. I reset the iPOD, even restored it to factory settings wiping all my data and reloading the COLOR video's with no luck.
After many fustrating searches on many websites (none of which had solutions but several others who had the same problem), I called apple support. Due to my inability to make a descion on how to repair the problem I actually ended up taking to three different support personal. Each with a different solution. The last swore up and down that it was a bad Apple A/V Cable. This made no sense since the s-Video also put out black in white.
Finially, I was able to show the problem to the Genius at the local Apple Store who confirmed the iPOD had a defective video out chip.
SOLUTION: IPod had to be replaced.
WARNING; since the IPod was replaced, I no longer had the laser engraving. You may be able to ship an laser engraved iPod to Apple, but I'm not sure if they will promise to return the personilized iPod so consider carefully your choices.
Otherwise, I love the iPod, looking forward to what iPhone is going to do.
