DVD Laufwerk fehlt im neuen iMac

Geht es nur mir so, dass ich im neuen iMac das Laufwerk vermissen werde? Dass ich mit dem Mac eigentlich nicht spiele, jedoch hin und wieder Filme schauen möchte, geht das mit dem neuen imac nicht mehr. Sinnvoller wäre gewesen, statt das Laufwerk ganz abzuschaffen, ein Bluray laufwerk zu verbauen.
Klar kann ich viele Filme in HD nochmal für 14,99 EUR kaufen, obwohl ich die Bluray im Schrank stehen hab..... Nur mal angenommen, ich möchte 20 Filme kaufen, sind in meiner Mediathek 50GB belegt. Der Mac hat ja nur mickrige 500GB. Naja...
Wenn Geld keine Rolle spielt kann man sich natürlich einen Mac Pro mit viel Reserve zulegen, sofern man 4.000 - 5.000 EUR investieren möchte...
Derzeit arbeite ich mit meinem iMac dual Core mit 16Gb Ram für die Videoearbeitung. Muss also noch ne Weile damit arbeiten...

Neben Apples USB SuperDrive, funktionieren auch einige (alle?) andere externe DVD/Blu-Ray Laufwerke am iMac. Die Anschaffung ist allemal günstiger als irgendwelche Filme doppelt und dreifach zu erwerben. In den großen deutschen Foren gibt es auch Hinweise welche Fremdprodukte problemlos laufen.
Ein integriertes Blu-Ray-Laufwerk werden wir wohl nie zu sehen bekommen, da die Macs bis heute offiziell keine Blu-Rays abspielen können. (Der verfügbare Player zählt auf Grund seiner Funktionsweise nicht)

Thanks, A Brody. Don't know what the PRAM battery is. Here are more details of the fault ... Although I've had the iMac for 5 years this may be the first time I've tried copying a video recording onto the DVD drive (I've made lots of CD copies without a problem). The folder and files all seem to be reproduced in identical order on the disc but my domestic DVD player cannot make sense of the recording, unlike the original source DVD from which the files originated. The drive has always been noisy but I've never assumed it shouldn't be! Does this fit your PRAM battery theory? If so, please explain more. Thanks.

A lot of people have a Mac where the superdrive has been taken out to be replaced with a harddisk. Try to find a friend who has done that, give him a beer and take the superdrive, then buy a superdrive container from OWC or another for afew dollars and put it in there. This slimdrive container has a USB connector. There you go.

A DVD is a DVD, unless it's been authored in a non-standard way. When you insert it in your Mac, do you at least see the disk appear on the desktop? Does it have a VIDEO_TS folder in it, containing various files?
If you open DVD Player manually (from the Applications folder), does it see it and start playing? If not, try downloading VLC (free) and see if that works.

How are DVD's finalized on my iMac? iPhoto's burnt to DVD okay, but DVD player won't play but wishes to format, which will erase contents. Player (panasonic) tect. support says DVD must be finalized by computer first ?????

After 6 days of torment, I continually have problems with making a DVD. Have always thought Mac was THE user friendly machine, but finding this not the case. Finally thru iDVD help and Apples Discussions guidance have"created a new slideshow program" in iDVD from iPhoto. Reset aspect to 4:3 as directed, setburn speed to 4x, ran a successful review....all well and ready. Nope !!!... window warning...........""Error during rendering/encoding,... burning process cancelled." Ejected, and reviewed program..everything warning keeps appearing. What now ??????????????????????? Is that disk corrupted ????? What do I need to correct?????????? Do Ineed to start a new program from the beginning? The only two things I can think of is the disk was formated on a DVD player prior to installing on Mac and is a DVD-RW. But the initial burn, altho blurry on TV, was successful. Now nothing...... Your ‘iDVD help says -RW is okay. Maybe not best as OT says.

Once your husband copied the movies, did he use a burn software to burn them to a DVD? You need to use a burn software to properly encode the footage so it'll play in any DVD player/computer/TV. So, once the movie is copied to your hard drive, you can edit it in iMovie (may need a converter first to get it into a format iMovie can work with such as MPEG Streamclip); after you're done in iMovie, use iDVD if you have it or Roxio Toast to burn it to a DVD.
And for the OP: Regions are different depending on where the movie was made: the US, Europe, etc. The regions are set within DVD player - you insert a DVD and the player reads what region it originated in. Please note you can only change regions 5 x; after the 5th, that setting will remain and can't be changed again.

LR 5 auf Lenovo S540 ohne CD/DVD Laufwerk (Aktivierungsproblem)

ich habe mir Lightroom 5 gekauft. Mein Laptop hat kein CD/DVD Laufwerk, was im Prinzip kein Hinderniss bei der Installation sein sollte, jedoch gibt es ein Problem wenn ich das Programm bei Adobe herunterlade, bzw. aktivieren will.
Ich kriege gesagt, dass der Aktivierungscode um die Testversion zu einer Vollversion zu machen, falsch sei.
Könnt ihr mir helfen ?

Wahrscheinlich wurde die LR5 Version über die Cloud installiert ?!?!
Dann einmal LR5 und die Cloud Anwendung deinstallieren und die Software hier herunterladen:

Damit funktionieren auch die Seriennummern.

DVD burn problem on my iMAC using Lion

Have a problem trying to burn data onto a DVD, on my iMac(intel) with Lion upgrade. Insert a blank DVD, get a folder type icon on desktop, drag files into the finder window, change the name of the DVD from the default, and click 'Burn'. Get a pop-up that says 'burn', with a progress bar, and writing track 1. After writing, the pop-up says finishing. When finishing is complete the pop-up says verifying, with a progress bar. When verifying is complete, the pop-up disappears, and the desktop icon changes to a disk symbol with the word DVD, and the name I gave it underneath. I can open it with a right click on the icon and finder shows my files. .... I eject the DVD, and reinsert it. Nothing shows up on the desktop, and after a couple of minutes, the DVD gets ejected. Besides the iMAC, both a stand-alone DVD player, and a PC can not read 'anything' on the disk. The shiny side of the disk appears to show that something has been written. Tried this same procedure on 3 DVD's and all failed.
Using Verbatim blank DVD's, which several web sites rate as the very best quality. I tried the next blank DVD in the stack on a 10+ year old PC, and the DVD was created, and read, not only on the PC, and stand-alone DVD player, but also the iMAC.
I have made a few DVD's, that worked, with the iMAC before. I can't remember if they were made on snow leopard, before the upgrade to Lion.

Change the POP setting to pop.att.yahoo.com and the SMTP setting to smtp.att.yahoo.com. Using your same username and password you have always used for that/those accounts.
ATT is moving aways from yahoo on newer accounts but it seems that for older accounts you need to still use the Yahoo addresses.
And for people like me who have Dumped ATT altogether, and ATT not having my accounts on there internal servers (As I not longer pay any money to ATT), the only way to access their original ATT, for me Bellsouth, email accounts is through the Yahoo email servers. That also may change to them completely canceling those accounts at some time.
The problem is the newest versions of Mac Mail has the newer ATT settings hard coded but for most they do not work correctly.

and use your serial number. This is the current version and newer than what is on your DVD.

Sharing a DVD player on my old iMac - Retina iMac does not display the DVD

I'm setting up my new retina display iMac which doesn't come with a DVD player so I set my old iMac up to share its CD/DVD player. But my new Retina/Yosemite iMac doesn't seem to be able to find the DVD player on the old iMac. Not listed at all in Finder.

OPen Disk Utility, highlight that DVD if it shows, click on the blue info icon, what does it report for Format & such?
