DVD Menu and slides truncated/cropped against my will :-)

I seem to have the menu and slides cropped on the left side by a significant number of pixels. THIS OCCURS on my standalone DVD player and NTSC regular TV. When I preview the DVD on my computer it looks perfect.
What can I do to make sure the whole menu appears on my TV...I DON'T have a wide-screen TV...I have the OLD FASHION size.
Thanks, --bill

Overscan = not a single home TV on this planet will dispaly all pixels of the actual image area due to manufacturing variations. That's what safe areas are for. You need to resize your imags and place them against a frame which you won't mind getting cropped. The rest of your settings are right for an NTSC DVD.

  • Pixalated DVD menu and flickering credits

I am currently editing a project on Premiere Elements 7.  I am having trouble with the quality of the DVD menu.  It is pixalated (to the point that some of the text is nearly unreadable).  I have also had problems with the resizing the text on the main menu. If I use the drop down box to select the text pt., the changes save fine. However, if I click on the text and resize it using the mouse icon, the changes are not permanent (the text is skewed if I restart the program or burn to disk.)
ALSO, the rolling titles or credits at the end are flickering. I have tried hitting "enter" to render the clip, and have experimented with all of the field options-without success.
I would really appreciate any help!

It looks like someone moved your post to this forum, Evan. Which is where it should be.
That said, I can think of no reason your text should be so pixelated it's unreadable on your DVD menu. At least assuming you're creating your text in Premiere Elements. The menu file is rendered from fonts at full DVD resolution.
The only possible explanation I can think of is that you're viewing this menu at more than 100%. This would be the case if, for instance, you were judging it by how it played on your computer, at full screen, rather than on your TV.
It's also possible that you're judging the quality of the menu based on the menu preview in the Disc Menus workspace. The preview will not show you the actual quality of the output. In fact, it's usually a pretty low resolution view. It's just a preview so you can test the navigation of the disc. Once the program creates your DVD, your menu file will be rendered as ful-quality 720x480 video.

  • Get rejected and directed to "babylon" AGAINST my will !!!

I wanted to play music borrowed from the local library and when wanting to play music Microsoft wants some verification that it is a legal thing I do - and it is. It is to secure the copyright of the musicians and thats OK with me. - fine. Then:
This "Babylon" comes up. I thought is was a Microsoft verification element. Now when I go from a newspaper site to other this babylon stops my visit. I have deleted the Babylon in the Programe base, but it stills creates problems.
I do not believe it´s a virus - it is a "link" that stays there. I want Firefox and IE to be my browsers and NOT a throublesome browser. Please Help

  • 6110 scanner bar ratchets back to right side and bumps continually against end--will not scan

Upon start-up, my 6110 will cycle normally, the scanner bar is lit up and moves a half-inch at a time toward the right side until it reaches the end then continues to bump the right side repeatedly, sounding like it is slipping on the belt cogs. I have downloaded new software and followed the re-setting procedures, completing a full reset. Same results. The printer does not function at all. Any clues how this could be fixed?

  • DVD Menu distorted on playback and finished copy

The last several projects I have worked on in Premiere Elements 9 seem to have an issue with the DVD Menu being distorted on preview and playback as well as when I burn them to DVD .  I noticed it several months ago on a short 20 minute video.  The DVD Menu was distorted, fuzzy and the titles were barely legible.  The video itself was just fine.  It was a standard play DVD … nothing special.
On the next project with the above in mind, I checked the Project Settings and all looked as it should.  I started editing and noticed playback was different when viewing clips in the timeline.  While playing the clip, the video and graphics looked fuzzy until I stopped the playback.  Then the image instantly sharpened and looked as good as I expected.  I continued editing assuming I never noticed the difference in this before.  I am still not sure whether this problem is related to the DVD Menu or not.  Anyway, I created the DVD menu and AGAIN, the DVD Menu looked fine until it is previewed or played back.  I even burned a copy to disc and the DVD Menu still looks as distorted and unclear as it does in the preview window.
This is the DVD Menu and honestly it looks worse than this screen shot improves upon it.
I would appreciate if anyone can provide some guidance on what the project settings should be or maybe the playback settings.  I am using a PC with a 64-bit processor with Win 7 O/S and 4 GB of RAM.
If there are any other questions I need to answer, please ask them and I will provide a response as soon as possible.
Thanks again for any assistance provided.

So apparently the screen shots I posted in my two posts did not get added.

  • Some fonts tops and bottom are cropped

I've been working on this DVD menu and been having trouble with the fonts I want to use. The tops and bottoms of certain fonts get cropped. Some fonts don't have this issue, of course only the fonts I want to use! haha
Does anyone know of a work around or a solution to this?
    Cheers.

Forget the DVI to HDMI. You will either get overscan or bars around the picture. It will probably be slightly blurry and you will end up using the HDMI input for something else later anyways. Since you aren't sending audio out from the mac on that cable just go VGA. Skip the post-processing and don't give yourself a headache with any of the switchrez or other resolution changing applications. The only thing you might be able to do is get into the service menu of your television (read the warranty disclaimer) and adjust the geometry on the HDMI input (some televisions will let you do this). If so read up on it or you can brick your tv.
    Good Luck,

  • How do I get the DVD menu to come on when the disc is inserted.

Each time I've burned a DVD with iDVD, instead of the menu coming up when the disc is inserted in the DVD player, the movie begins playing automatically. It should bring up the menu first. I have the chapter marker set at the beginning of the movie and when you go to the menu and select the start button it will go to the start of the movie. Am I missing something? How do I get it so that the movie does not start playing automatically?

    Hi
    Am I missing something?
    Yes
    I guess that You don't
    • Share to Media Browser and as Large or Medium (or just save project - in old iMovie HD6)
    - But Share to iDVD - I never do this
    • Make's a One Step DVD or a Magical DVD - I never do - I select the top one options.
as these ways will end up Your Movie in the Auto-Start box in iDVD (turn on box-view under the Menu window)
    • Move it from here to the next box to the Right
    THEN
File to Save as a DiskImage - and test this to play OK (DVD-Player tool)
then burn this via Disk Util tool
And this Disk should start with Menu and let You select Movie or Sceen Selection.

  • DVD Menu system on iPod?

I'm converting my dvd's to my iPod. Can iPod recognize and utilize the menu system on DVD's? or can you only add the file that is the whole movie. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to pick your dvd in iPod and have it start to the dvd menu and then be able to use the touch sensitive scroller to click different options on the dvd menu.

I suppose that if you wanted a movie and a trailer and deleted scenes etc, you could rip/convert them all and then put them in a playlist. For example I have the Grand Canyon and Hawaiian 3-part Brady Bunch Episodes in Their own playlists so that I can skip to the next video or play them through non-stop. What I wish Apple would come up with is the ability to use chapter stops, perhaps in a future update? But please fix the shortcoming of the remote control first. Good luck and much fun with your new iPod.

  • CS4 Dvd Menu Problem

Hi im not that great ant my cs4 master lol but i made a dvd menu and its saved as psd i imported as menu in encore but i cant select the buttons (+) play
    (+) chapter "examples"   Whats wrong?

    (+) play
    (+) chapter "examples"
If that is just buttons, it will never work. The (+) is reserved for a button group, whereas the states of the buttons themsleves must be designated with (=1)(=2) and so on on the layers inside the button group.. As Silkrooster said, check the Encore forums and also re-read the help files.

  • DVD menu navigation in Front Row - HOW?

Just got my new iMac. When I start Front Row, insert a DVD and select "DVD" in Front Row, I select the menu.
Then what? The remote still controls volume only, front and back buttons do nothing. How do navigate the DVD menu and start playing the DVD?

Insert a DVD into your computer’s DVD drive.
Press the Menu button on your remote to open Front Row.
Use the Next and Previous buttons to choose DVD in the Front Row main menu, then press the Play/Pause button.
Use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to navigate the Front Row DVD menu. You can play a DVD, turn muting on and off, display the DVD's menu, and eject the disc.
An alert message appears if you haven't inserted a DVD into your computer's DVD drive. (The message may also appear if your computer hasn't finished reading the disc you've inserted.)
While a movie is playing, use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to adjust the sound volume. Press the Next and Previous buttons to jump to the next or previous chapter. Press and hold Next and Previous to fast-forward and rewind. While a movie is paused, press the Next button to advance to the next frame of the movie. Press the Menu button to stop the DVD and return to the DVD menus. Press the Menu button again to go to the Front Row DVD menu.

  • Is there dvd software out there that allows you to create a dvd menu in which the viewer can choose to play different sequences of the videos offered?

Is there dvd software out there that allows you to create a dvd menu in which the viewer can choose to play different sequences of the videos offered? It was described to me as a dvd matrix menu but I can't find anything like it for mac. The idea is that there are multiple videos on the dvd menu and you can choose to play "video A, then B, then C" or "video B, then C, then A", etc, in different orders each time. And it would play the sequence that you choose.

    meghanica wrote:
I think that's on the right track but I'm wanting something that allows the viewer to choose the sequence when they're looking at the DVD menu. I only see how the creator of the DVD can make different sequences. It's a yoga tutorial DVD and we are wanting the viewer to be able to pick a sequence from the menu items as such: pick one of the 3 warm-up videos, then pick one of the 2 yoga practices and then pick 1 of the 3 cool-down videos and then the dvd will play the sequence of selected warm up, practice, then cool down. And it can be differently chosen every time the viewer uses the menu.
You can do this on a DVD with DVD Studio Pro.
DVD's have some very basic storage called SPRM/GPRM scripting IIRC.
There are a few tutorials around for DVDSP…
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/dvd_language_nattress.html
    http://www.digitalproducer.com/article/DVD-Studio-Pro-Scripting-Part-4-28784
You use scripts to set values that are stored in a tiny amount of memory on the player & then have to use additional scripts to respond to the values set, so that at the end of a sequence it will jump to the one a user previously chosen.
    Some things to consider…
DVD's have limits on the number of chapters & titles, you need to plan around that.
Some DVD players are terrible to navigate, the settings that a user selects will be forgotten when the player is powered off. Users will need to make the choices over & over, every time they use the DVD (computers may remember it - I haven't tested this in years).
You will also need to setup many variations of menus to be able to indicate what selections they chose.
It is not a trivial task, you may want to hire a programmer to set it all up.
Testing is also a lot of work - too many combinations can quickly cause issues for testing, different players can also do odd things too.
I have used scripting for basic, 'play all' or 'play chapter' menus where the video is encoded once on the DVD & the scripts will either play through, or simply play a chapter & return to the same menu.
You may find that it would be better to invest in setting up a website with this. On a custom site it would be possible for users to save a playlist or several, they can also share playlists etc, it would be more flexible & usable IMO.
See roaring apps for info on others who have used DVD Studio Pro with various OS's…
http://roaringapps.com/app/dvd-studio-pro …it looks like 10.8 may be the last OS to work correctly with DVDSP.
Other DVD authoring apps may be able to do GPRM scripting too, but you will have to search for them.
I think the registers are part of the DVD spec, so devices should support them, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Video
