DVD menu background not working in some players only

I put together a DVD in DVDSP 3 which works fine on most players. However on some players the menu backgrounds are grey instead of the graphic that should be there, and the buttons all say "Introduction" instead of having the proper titles. The first Main Menu looks fine and works properly. But the other menus don't show the background images at all.
I've tried using JPG, TIF and MPEG-2 files for the backgrounds on those menus, but none of those file formats works. The buttons all function properly and go to the correct targets, but the button text is the same wrong text on all the buttons. Also, the transitions work fine. And the tracks all play fine. It's just the non-Main menus that have the problem, and only on some DVD Players.
The specific players that have the problem are the Sony DVP-NS55P and the Philips DVP3140, both set top players.
Has anyone seen this type of behavior? And fixed it?

I have a similar problem. When I create a movie background and test in the simulator, the movie doesn't play and I get the grey screen with all the buttons and menus. The DVD created only plays the movie background only after you click a button and it tries to move on to the next track. I have never had a problem before.

  • DVD aspect ratio not working on some players?

I've been working on a 16:9 DVD and recently burned it to make sure everything is working correctly.
On my computer, and my newest DVD player, everything is fine and I get a nice widescreen image.
But on my Xbox and older DVD player, the image is significantly cropped on the sides.
Is this a player issue, or is there a setting I can change to override the crop?

I know nothing about the Xbox but for the dvd player in the menu is it set to widescreen?

  • My DVD player does not work with some DVDs

My DVD does not work with certain DVDs.  Do I need to get it replaced or is there some other problem.

Could it be that they're out-of-region DVDs? Which model MBP do you have (15" late 2011, for example) and which version of OS X are you running?

  • Menu not working on some players

    Hi everyone,
I created a DVD complete with menus and sent copies to two different people. Before I sent the DVD I checked that the disk worked on my mac's DVD player and a standalone player. A Panasonic I think but I'm not sure. Anyway, both parties that received the disk say that there is no menu at all and the disc just immediately played the film.
I'm completely clueless as to why this is the case. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many players that support "resuming" a previously played disc will not be able to resume to the menu domain if no track has been played before the disc was stopped. In this case they will often skip right to the first video track on the disc.
The best way to get around this is the same as Gary's suggestion - add a "dummy" track of 1 second of black (I just use a 720x480 pict file in a track). This track must be the first VTS on the disc - see the VTS view of the outline tab to reorder the VTSes. Nothing needs to target this track, and its end jump should be to the main menu.
Another option is to make your first play a track. I'll sometimes do this with my FBI warning or the intro sequence.
    Hope this helps -

  • Menu buttons not working in Apple DVD Player

I am having a real problem. I have a menu with three buttons. The default button takes you either of the other buttons (depending on whether you press right or down on the remote). These two buttons are auto-action and proceed imediately to other tracks. This works perfectly in home DVD players and in the Apple DVD Player using the "remote". Howver, if I try clicking the buttons using a mouse on the Apple DVD Player window, they DO NOT work! I have buttns over video on the same disc and these work perfectly by clicing on them with the mouse. Has anyone else had a problem like this and if so, have you found a solution? Many thanks!

Is the one that doesn't work a layered menu? DVD Player does not work correctly with layered menus, it takes one click to switch to the selected state, and a second click to activate the button.

  • PE3 DVD Menu Background video quality

    Hi,
I'm creating a video for DVD and have got a 15 second AVI file I am using for the DVD menu background.
I've added it in the Create DVD section and it all works fine. However, when I view the created DVD the quality of the menu video is horrible. Lots of compression artifacts.
When I look at the VIDEO_TS folder the VOB file for the menu is about 6Mb.
If I create a movie using the same 15 second AVI as the main movie (and no DVD title) then the SAME 15 second AVI becomes a 15Mb VOB file and looks much better.
    a) Why is PE3 using such low quality when compressing video files to use as DVD menu backgrounds?
    b) Is it possible to override it and make it use the same quality it uses for the main movie?
    Many thanks,
    Chris
PS I'm using Premiere Elements 3.02 on Windows XP.

    Hi Steve,
The 15 second DVD menu background AVI was created in Premiere Elements in a separate project. I created some Titles with Motion paths, layered them and then added some music.
I then used File->Export->Movie... to save it as a Microsoft DV AVI which I then imported into the main movie project.
I then selected Create DVD and dragged the movie into the Menu Background place.
The project seems to work fine. The only issue is that the generated VOB for the menu is only 6Mb and very poor quality whereas if I create a DVD from the separate project where I created the 15 second title movie the same movie clip becomes a 15Mb clip (and hence 2-3x the visual quality too).
Note that the rest of the movie is fine. It's just the menu background that appears to have been badly compressed.

  • HT1414 I have intelos and my Iphone does not work in some areas or in my house. I have had Apple replace it 2 times with the same problem. My android worked fine in all places....what's wrong with this? It's killing my business!! Any ideas to fix it??

Please help me understand why my I phone 4s is not working in some places and my HOME!! I have been to Apple 3 times and Intelos 5 times and no one knows whats wrong and they are telling me that no one else is having this problem. It's hurting my business because I can't get calls at home. I paid a lot of money for this and may have to pay to get out of it.  I thought Apple was a good company but am changing my mind quick.

OK, restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more is corrupt. To restart in Safe Mode when you hear the start up tone hold down the Shift Key until you see a progress bar. Let it fully boot then restart normally and test.
Also I am assuming you have checked Finder - Preferences  - General and see what boxes are checked in "Show these items on desktop." You can also mount an item in Disk Utility, simply highlight it and then look in the File menu for Mount.....

  • Satellite P25-S520 - DVD drive is not working properly

Fix DVD Drive or buy external drive
My DVD drive is not working properly, in fact it may never have been working proper. Recently I tried to back up my PC to a DVD using Norton 360. Norton did not recognize the DVD was present. I then tried writing a text file to a DVD and was unsuccessful. Both DVD+R and DVD-R media were tried (Maxwell 16X).
I could have probably lived with this however, I got a copy of Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 10 on a CD and my Toshiba would not recognize it. I tried the CD in my neighbors laptop and it was recognized.
An attempt at updating the driver was also unsuccessful.
I was able to rip a music CD last night so that at least is working correctly.
Does anybody know how I can fix this? The important part is being able to load my new program.
Searching some forums I've found that other people have had problems with the Pioneer drive. If the drive cannot be fixed I am not adverse to buying an external DVD drive. Unfortunately where I live there are no brick-and-mortar stores which sell external drives and I would prefer to avoid the hassle of getting a drive online and discovering that it does not work with my Toshiba. Can anyone suggest an external USB drive which will read and write CDs and DVDs and which is certain to be compatible with my Toshiba?
    Thank you for any help,

Any external USB CD/DVD drive will be compatible with your laptop.
However you wont be able to boot of CD's (Run Recovery for example) if you use an external drive.
So your best option would be to replace the internal drive with a Toshiba drive designed for the laptop. Call an ASP and ask for a quotation.

  • Dvd player does not work after Leopard upgrade

I installed Leopard, had to upgrade because my printer died and no printers now work with Tiger.  Since the upgrade, my DVD player does not work.  I have problems burning some cd's too.  Is this a known issue?  What is the fix?

I have read a couple of complaints like that, but not sure it's widespread.
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
If that does NOT help, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
If that does NOT help then I suspect the optical drive or media itself, or possibly just needs a cleaning CD run on it.

  • Title & Menu Buttons not working correctly on remote control/ set top player but work in preview.

Title & Menu Buttons not working correctly on remote control/ set top player but work in encore preview. This only happens for a Blu ray project. When a user presses the menu button it should go to the previous menu they were on but it goes to the main menu. When they press the title button they should go to the main menu but it doesn't do anything. My DVD projects work as expected.I've tried creating a new "test" project with different footage and still get the same undesirable results.
Overrides grayed out and set to "not set" for timelines and menus.Project settings and build are set to blu ray. Also I've noticed when I preview a Bluray project the preview window shows a red colored disc next to the Title button when viewing the timelines and green when playing the menus but not so for a DVD project it displays red if motion menus and or timelines are not rendered/encoded. I'm not using motion menus and all the media is encoded according to the project specs.
I've searched this forum but couldn't find the answer. Any help or redirects to a solution would be appreciated. Working with CS5. Thanks.

I found out on my Samsung Blu ray player the remote has a tools button on it that brings up audio, angle, chapter selection etc.and also title selection which is actually the menus and the timelines unfortunately. It's not as easy or direct as last menu selected but it's a workaround at least. I also plan on using a pop up menu. I'll let you know.

  • My DVD player will not work. I am unable to install the snow leopard 10.6.3 because of it.

My DVD player will not work. I am unable to install the snow leopard 10.6.3 because of it.

Do you have a friend with an Intel Mac. If your MacBook and their Mac have firewire ports you can install by Target Disk Mode. You'll need a retail version of SL to do this with any Mac other than a MacBook.
Start up your friend's Mac with your install disk. After you get to the install screen on your friend's Mac connect your MacBook to your friend's Mac in "Target Mode"with a firewire cable http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Then open "Disk Utility" from the "Utilities Menu" on the Menu Bar from the install disk on your friend's Mac. You should see both your MacBook and your friend's Mac hard drives in there. Erase and partition your MacBook drive and then choose that drive when you go back to the install screen. Or install over your existing OS on your drive if you have applications you want to keep.
The only other way is to buy an external DVD drive on eBay. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=firewire+external+dvd+drive&_sacat=0&LH_BIN=1&_ sop=15&_dmpt=Apple_Laptops&_odkw=usb+external+dvd+drive&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286. c0.m270.l1313 or at MacSales http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/
And of course be sure your Macbook meets the system requirements. To upgrade to Snow Leopard or install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor.
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing.
At least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended).
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer.
At least 5 GB of disk space available.

I want  to upgrad from OS X10.5.8 to 10.6.8 or higher, but my DVD drive  is not working. Is there the possibility to buy an online Update?

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
If your hardware supports more recent versions then:
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
