DVD Menu distorted on playback and finished copy

The last several projects I have worked on in Premiere Elements 9 seem to have an issue with the DVD Menu being distorted on preview and playback as well as when I burn them to DVD . I noticed it several months ago on a short 20 minute video. The DVD Menu was distorted, fuzzy and the titles were barely legible. The video itself was just fine. It was a standard play DVD … nothing special.
On the next project with the above in mind, I checked the Project Settings and all looked as it should. I started editing and noticed playback was different when viewing clips in the timeline. While playing the clip, the video and graphics looked fuzzy until I stopped the playback. Then the image instantly sharpened and looked as good as I expected. I continued editing assuming I never noticed the difference in this before. I am still not sure whether this problem is related to the DVD Menu or not. Anyway, I created the DVD menu and AGAIN, the DVD Menu looked fine until it is previewed or played back. I even burned a copy to disc and the DVD Menu still looks as distorted and unclear as it does in the preview window.
This is the DVD Menu and honestly it looks worse than this screen shot improves upon it.
I would appreciate if anyone can provide some guidance on what the project settings should be or maybe the playback settings. I am using a PC with a 64-bit processor with Win 7 O/S and 4 GB of RAM.
If there are any other questions I need to answer, please ask them and I will provide a response as soon as possible.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

DVD Menu Functions in iTunes and on iPad?

I'm trying to create the functionality of a DVD menu but in a format supported in iTunes, and further, on the iPad.
I've got a project that I'd like to format that requires me to have a menu of tracks (different content) and I'd like to be able to use my iPad to access and view it. For example: the opening menu would have different titles that if selected would take you to the connected assets (Content). Once the content is done playing it takes you back to the main menu. This would be much the same way DVDs include extra scenes and what not...
Anyone now what software I could use to create functionality. I've built all the menus in Apple Motion, and A. Photoshop. The DVD export/formatting makes everything look like crap as a result of the rendering and codec and just overall poop that happens between content creation, rendering, and final output.
I'm wondering if I can have the clean lines I see in Apple Motion and QuickTime, but with the menu functions with connected assets, but do it all through iTunes, iPad, or ATV.
Any thoughts? Pardon the double post if this has been asked before. I've looked and can't find anything.

Making dvd-menu based chapter markers and burning it to dvd.

There is no more Encore in Creative Cloud programs and it can't be download anywhere.
Do I really have to change program provider or is there so way to make menu and dvd with Adobe programs

DVD menu with 1 movie and 4 different audio languanges (no subtitles)

I am greek producer of a tourist dvd that have the history, the culture and the life of my birth place.
I am using Encore 2.0 (beginer skills)
This DVD it's only one movie and have 4 different audio languanges of a speaker. Each audio is the the same time with the movie and the speaker tells the story of the island.
I want at the first menu the customer choose his birth languange and then automaticaly
the rest menus - movie and audio be the same as his sellection of birth languange he choose at the begging.
Can encore do that?
Can i find a ready template of that?
Or tell me the way please to built it.

OK, for limiting User Operations, one can Permit All, None, Custom. This explains this process. Note: the Operations vary by whether you apply these to a Timeline, or to a Menu:
To disable or edit user operations
Select a timeline or menu, or click the Disc tab.
Note: Disabling user operations at the Disc level disables that operation in DVD elements too. You can, however, enable a function at the disc level and then turn it off for specific menus, timelines. and other elements.
Click the Set button at the bottom of the Properties panel.
Select the desired options and then click OK.
All Enables viewers to execute any operation.
None Disables all viewer operations.
Custom Lets you specify which operations are enabled. Deselect the user operations you want to disable:
Play Timeline Lets the viewer enter a number of a timeline to play.
Change Presentation Mode Lets the viewer set the playback mode to 4:3 or 16:9.
Play Chapter Lets the viewer play a specific chapter.
Note: Disabling Play Chapter also disables the Search For Chapter operation.
Search For Chapter Lets the viewer search for a specific chapter.
Play Timecode Lets the viewer enter a timecode to play or search for.
Stop Lets the viewer stop the DVD.
Pause Lets the viewer pause the DVD.
Previous/Next Chapter Lets the viewer move among chapters.

Personally, I would not want to lock the user out of too many controls, as they might become highly frustrated and think that the DVD has malfunctioned.

Dvd menu question

Hi everyone..
i am currently animating a dvd menu in after effects, and I just want to make sure that what I am planning to do is do-able..
I am planning to have my menu as a movie, which would have the menu options appear with effects on them.. and then I want a simple image to appear next to the text upon selection.. Like an arrow symbol or something.
It is possible to overlay an image within a button region, correct?
I also want to clarify-- I definitely want the text to be clickable-- so I am imagining a button region which would extend the width of the .mov file's text area, and then a little wider to give space for the image.. but I am not sure how this is done...
so, any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there.. Ok I am at the stage where I am ready to get this button situation going. I read the example that you suggested, but I am still a little confused with how to proceed.

The text "Start practice, Technique tutorials, dvd extras, audio settings" are part of the video, they are not text in the buttons.. However, the Buttons do have that symbol in them, which is what I want the 'selection cursor' to be.
1) This is an animated menu where the options reveal themselves around 30 seconds into the menu. How do I make my buttons not become active until the loop point?
2) Do I really want to use an overlay file like in your example?
3) How do I set the non-selected buttons to be invisible? (So that there is only one symbol at any given time)

DVD menu doesn't work on the finished DVD

Please, I need some help.
I am having problems with a DVD menu.
Several days ago I burned a DVD from the same project that I tried to export to DVD today, and I did not have any problems with DVD menu, but today, when I start to burn DVD it shows me a warning sign that tells a few DVD markers are closer than they are required, and after burning DVD the DVD menu doesn't show or work on the finished DVD. What am I doing wrong?

Mangled Menu. PSD layers EXPLODE when copied and pasted.

I make a menu in Photoshop (DV Widescreen - I've tried numerous formats) and I make a DV NTSC 16x9 sequence. If I import the PSD file and drag the whole thing into the timeline it looks perfect. If I copy certain layers and try to paste them into my DVD menu sequence the PSD layers just explode. The size explodes, the position is way off.
WTH is going on?

In previous version of FCP (before I HD was standard) I could import PSD files with dozens of layers. I could open the PSD sequence, select whatever layers I wanted and paste them into other sequences. The layers would keep all their attributes and positions relative to the original document. This made it very easy to create motion menus for DVD SP. Now when I try the same thing the layers go freaking nuts.
I can see just fixing the file in PSD would solve the problem but if I'm creating numerous menus with slight variations, I need a PSD file for each menu instead of a master PSD file with the elements for all the menus. Minor I suppose but it just seems counter intuitive to have the layers to lose all their scale and position attributes just because they were pasted into a different sequence.
Does this not seem odd to anyone or am I on crack? Or am I missing some obvious setting or aspect ratio?

Thank you all for the advise to increase my imacs' RAM, and also i have a question, ie, can we make dvd menu in FCP X with chapter and also i have another question is that , the imac display is 'prograssive or interlanced', when prograssive video will play it shows a strobe effects, ( canon 7d video ) other interlanced video playback have no problem , how can i solved this problem.

FCP X will only burn the one simple DVD that you see. Just about the only way to customise it is to add a picture.

Playback on computer is always progressive.
What shutter speed was used to shoot your footage?
What codec is it?
What are the project settings?
What is the specification of your mac?

IDVD 7 and leader film before DVD menu

Dear readers and helpers
I try to produce a DVD with iDVD, which until this stage does it well.
Now, as with professional DVD's, I would like to see a leader/entry film before the DVD menu is showing up.
Does anyone know how I could achieve this with iDVD or maybe with Final Cut Pro X?

Hi Thomas,
I am not sure what "leader films" are but if you a referring to something like a preview before the motion menus you can accomplish this.
Open DVD map and you'll see boxes. Basically drag your movie file on the very first box.
Basically after you disc is burned, that movie in the first box will play and then the motion menus.

What you want to do is select the files you want to move then go File>Relocate Masters. Your images will then be referenced to a location you select. Aperture will still continue to manage the images, but the external hard drive must be connected if you want to make adjustments. Aperture will retain Metadata and any adjustment information. Your original images will stay unmodified on your external drive.

Ipod classic and some distorted/clipped playback

After spending many years with my 3G ipod I got a new 80GB ipod classic (thanks to my wife) but am having a problem with playback on 1.1/1.1.1. It seems that some songs are playing back exceptionally loud causing the output to be clipped/distorted.
Playback is through the digital connector and not the headphone output. This is through a iTrip auto scan modulator.
On the 1.0 firmware I found a work around. By going into the Volume Level while not connected and then connect I could "trick" the output on the digital out to adjust. Now this work around seems to be disabled and I cannot figure out how to fix it.
I checked some of the individual sounds in iTunes to make sure they were not bumped up in volume level and they are not.
Any thoughts?

I had the same problems, and I found that using the AACgain program with iGain at the front end solved the problem. However, this does not work on songs bought from iTunes as they are protected. Spoken to iTunes about it, but they were no help. Can't understand why they don't run a gain adjuster on songs before they offer them for download. Won't be buying from iTunes anymore.
