Dvd Menu in motion

Is motion the best way to go to make professional looking Dvds.
And if so does any body have any ideas on creating them in motion.

"Professional" is relative and does not require any specific tools. A professional only needs experience, creativity and the ability to know which tools to use.
Motion is not a DVD creator/authoring tool, it merely creates visual effects that might or might not be appropriate for any DVD project. To get professional-looking visual effects, you do NOT need Motion but you DO need the services of a motion graphics professional. To get professional-quality DVDs, you only need a skilled operator. iDVD will create remarkably cool DVDs and it's free.

  • DVD Menu/motion background issue

Every time I try to add a motion background to my DVD menu, the photoshop menu gets stretched horizontally. It looks fine when you add the video but when you preview and render it or burn it to DVD it stretches the menu. see screen shot.

Your menu shows as 1080x720; you say this is for DVD, but size would be wrong for DVD or Bluray.
Yes, you can get away with a variety of sizes; Encore will eventually transcode the menu to the project defaults. But using odd menu sizes makes problems more likely.
Make the menu itself the correct size. (Start with a library template for the project type - HD vs SD, standard vs wide.) Bring in a motion menu asset that is also the correct size. Don't  let Encore do any resizing of those assets.

  • The basics of creating a menu in "Motion" then importing to DVD SP?

    Hi guys.
I am trying to wrap my head around using Motion and DVD SP together.
I created a menu in Motion and droped my clips into the placeholders of one of the templates.
Then I imported the project into DVD SP.
But now placeholder clips do not link to the movies.
Can anyone please explain the basics of working together with these 2 great programs?

  • Dvd Studio Pro crashes whenever usuing a menu using motion video

Im using DVD Studio Pro 2 on a G5. Whenever I try to burn using either a menu template containing video or use a drop zone containing video, the software crashes.
I always use m2V video and ac3 audio created in FC4. Have tried usuing an existing file asset as my target with duration time set as well as separate imported files as the target. All imported assets are in the same folder
On burn, when it gets to the menu containing the video it crashes. If I remove the video from the menu its a smooth burn.
    Any suggestions wouldbe greatly appreciated.

The same problem as Chad's happens to me when running the Chapter 6 tutorial in the Apple Pro Training Series (APTS) book for Motion 3: if you try to set the imported Motion project as a DVDSP background, DVDSP will crash every time.
Max Average's advice is 100% good with the downside being that you lose your ability to roundtrip. If you export your Motion DVD menu project as a standalone QT movie, it will drop in fine and still retains the loop point (a marker preset within Motion). Exporting with the Lossless+Alpha codec gave me the best image in the DVDSP simulator (over Animation+Alpha, Uncompressed 10-bit, and ProRes HQ).
I find roundtripping between FCS2 apps is a hit and miss affair and, generally, just export everything.

  • Is there a way to make DVD's with DVD menu's in Motion 5?

if so do you think this could be the alternative to the missing DVDSP?

You can 're-install' from older installer disks, even on 10.7.
And it is by far superior when it comes to customization of DVD menu design etc, compared to Toast.
'Most economical' solution to burn video onto disks is the free tool Burn ...
Toast is an excellent 'disks related' tool, with zillion of features not seen in this combo with any other app .....-

  • Is it possible to create DVD Templates with Motion for burning Blue Ray DVDs from Final Cut Pro X?

Is it possible to create DVD Templates with Motion for burning Blue Ray DVDs from Final Cut Pro X?

As far as I know, motion templates can only be used with DVD Studio Pro. FCP X only lets you add a background image to the DVD menu.

  • PE3 DVD Menu Background video quality

    Hi,
I'm creating a video for DVD and have got a 15 second AVI file I am using for the DVD menu background.
I've added it in the Create DVD section and it all works fine. However, when I view the created DVD the quality of the menu video is horrible. Lots of compression artifacts.
When I look at the VIDEO_TS folder the VOB file for the menu is about 6Mb.
If I create a movie using the same 15 second AVI as the main movie (and no DVD title) then the SAME 15 second AVI becomes a 15Mb VOB file and looks much better.
    a) Why is PE3 using such low quality when compressing video files to use as DVD menu backgrounds?
    b) Is it possible to override it and make it use the same quality it uses for the main movie?
    Many thanks,
    Chris
PS I'm using Premiere Elements 3.02 on Windows XP.

    Hi Steve,
The 15 second DVD menu background AVI was created in Premiere Elements in a separate project. I created some Titles with Motion paths, layered them and then added some music.
I then used File->Export->Movie... to save it as a Microsoft DV AVI which I then imported into the main movie project.
I then selected Create DVD and dragged the movie into the Menu Background place.
The project seems to work fine. The only issue is that the generated VOB for the menu is only 6Mb and very poor quality whereas if I create a DVD from the separate project where I created the 15 second title movie the same movie clip becomes a 15Mb clip (and hence 2-3x the visual quality too).
Note that the rest of the movie is fine. It's just the menu background that appears to have been badly compressed.

  • Premiere Elements 9 - unable to select a "poster frame" for DVD Menu - Scene Selection

I've tried a number of different DVD menu themes and the problem is the same for all.  The Scene Selections don't seem to provide any way to include a graphic for the poster frame.  Have been able to provide a menu background with no problem.  Interestingly, the poster frame section of the menu edit fields appears to be somewhat truncated (the spot where you would expect the "drag media here" shows only the bottom portion of a box with no wording and the input is truncated at 00;00;0 with the fifth zero partially cut off.
Any one else seen this?  I know I've provided graphics for the scene buttons in the past but cannot seem to get past this situation this time.
    Thanks

In Adobe Encore (the authoring program, included with PrPro), one can set the Poster Frame for non-Motion Thumbnails.
For showing a different Clip, in Motion Thumbnails, one must create Menus, that have a Video background, that just looks like it has Motion Thumbnails - they are actually PiP in the Video background.
I do not know about the often touted Sony DVD Architect, regarding setting Poster Frames.
PrE's authoring control is a bit limited, and is designed to get the "average" Project authored, with few navigational bells and whistles.
    Good luck,

  • IDVD 7 and leader film before DVD menu

    Dear readers and helpers
I try to produce a DVD with iDVD, which until this stage does it well.
Now, as with professional DVD's, I would like to see a leader/entry film before the DVD menu is showing up.
Does anyone know how I could achieve this with iDVD or maybe with Final Cut Pro X?
Thank you for anyones help and suggestions.
    Regards from Switzerland
    Thomas Thaler

    Hi Thomas,
I am not sure what "leader films" are but if you a referring to something like a preview before the motion menus you can accomplish this.
Open DVD map and you'll see boxes. Basically drag your movie file on the very first box.
Basically after you disc is burned, that movie in the first box will play and then the motion menus.
I hope I addressed your question correctly.

  • DVD Menu Issue

    Ok excellent, and just as a further point, if you have the time;
I am a little confused as to which dimensions I should use when creating a DVD menu in photoshop to use in Encore, to begin with I made one in 1920x1080 as I didn't realise DVDs could not be made in full HD.

Ok, however even if I switch project settings to BluRay, and create a new menu the font is all pixelated when it looks really crisp in Photoshop. What do you think the issue is?
It depends. You might want to post a screenshot. If the font is part of highlights, it is only 2 bit color. Also, if there is a motion background, Encore will render to the default transcode settings (part of the project settings).
Encore limits the viewing size for preview, as it should, so you don't make the window so large it is blowing it up. You are looking at the preview and not the menu monitor window?

  • DVD Menu Transition Effects

I have successfully created a motion graphic DVD menu in AE, which I have rendered to be authored in Encore. The theme is horror/thriller with thriller theme for the BG music. There are two(2) selecitons on the main menu:
    Play Movie         Bonus Features
When the user chooses Play Movie, I would like a transition effect leading to the main video to be played. And maybe a different transition effect when the user selects Bonus Features before getting into the submenu of bonus features.
Can anyone sugguest any resources (e.g., books, manuals, blogs, video resources, courses, etc.) that can provide a tutorial on how to perform the procedure(s) in AE and EN?
Your assistance would be highly appreciated.
    Montgal_NYC

The ones I am seeing are not for transitions specifically - quite a few bad links. And the ones I see may be for older versions.

  • How to create a random dvd menu

Hi everyone. I"m a newbie to apple fcp and i've been completely impressed with all of it's capabilities. I've been looking into doing a random dvd menu with scripting but have been unable to make it work. What I mean by that is a menu that has 3 or 4 different backgrounds/motion menus it skips around on the initial start rather than one that always comes up, this menu would alternate between menus. Almost like just changing backgrounds for the viewer so that it's not always the same. I've seen this with dvd's like starwars 3 dvd and others. Can anyone help direct me to some resources? All I've been able to find on this was in the dvd pro manual.
I really appreciate any help I can get! Thanks!
    -Bob

Thanks so much for your advice. I"m looking into just how to implement this script/counter code but not having much luck - I"m totally new to dvd studio pro and FCP. I just learned easter eggs last week though, so i'm getting there. Can you step me through this script creation process? If not don't worry i'll figure this out eventually somehow. I have my 4 different menus and a blank script and i've been looking at all my options. How do I implement your script in DSP4? Do I do a command for everyline of your code? or is there somewhere to write all of that?

  • DVD Menu Functions in iTunes and on iPad?

I'm trying to create the functionality of a DVD menu but in a format supported in iTunes, and further, on the iPad.
I've got a project that I'd like to format that requires me to have a menu of tracks (different content) and I'd like to be able to use my iPad to access and view it. For  example: the opening menu would have different titles that if selected would take you to the connected assets (Content). Once the content is done playing it takes you back to the main menu. This would be much the same way DVDs include extra scenes and what not...
Anyone now what software I could use to create functionality. I've built all the menus in Apple Motion, and A. Photoshop. The DVD export/formatting makes everything look like crap as a result of the rendering and codec and just overall poop that happens between content creation, rendering, and final output.
I'm wondering if I can have the clean lines I see in Apple Motion and QuickTime, but with the menu functions with connected assets, but do it all through iTunes, iPad, or ATV.
Any thoughts? Pardon the double post if this has been asked before. I've looked and can't find anything.

    Try this...

Might not be the answer you want, but it is probably the one you need.

  • Animated DVD Menu?

I'm curious as to how I can make an animated/motion DVD menu? Like having a video clip running and THEN the menu options (play, audio, chapters) show up after the background video plays? Thanks!
    GC

You need to make your menu footage so that you get the animation and then fade in your menu background. Keep this still for as long as you like, but no less than 30 seconds so the user has time to make a choice.
Take a still image from the timeline into photoshop and set it as a background layer. Use this as a guide to create button highlights in a new layer. Hide the background and export the highlights as a pict image.
Take your footage and highlight image into DVDSP and drag the footage into a menu, set it as the background. Drag the image in and set it as the overlay. In the property inspector for the menu set the loop point marker at a position just after the still footage starts in your menu background. This is where the overlay will start.
You can treat the menu as you would any other, set the button targets and organise the button navigation. When you play the menu the animation will play first, followed by the static section where the buttons will be available. At the end of the footage the menu will loop back to the loop point marker and play from there. You'll get a slight pause as this looping takes place, which is why it's a good idea to give the static section enough time for your viewers to make a choice, so they don't get to see the loop take place.

  • Looping don't work in my DVD Menu

    Hi I'm Jo from Singapore.
Pardon me... I know this is rather basic... Which really makes me crazy... I was attached with a company last time using Encode V1. Imagine... Now I'm using CS5 Encore! Doing the same thing as Encode 1V ----> But I didn't get the looping menu right when play in my DVD player.
First I import a Menu in the size of 720 x 576px done in psd.
2nd I import a mov. movie as asset, done in the size of 720 x 576px and mov. done by 25fps.
3rd I open the tab at the Menu Properties > Motion > Set the Video link to  the above mov. movie. Leave the audio as nothing, loop point automatic set as 00:00:00:00 and Loop #: Forever.
    Then I build/burn the DVD.
I should have get the menu stay forever and looping from the point 00:00:00:00 ya? But the player loop the menu only once and 2nd time when reaching the end of the loop, it continue to play the first movie on my menu. Why is this so? I'm desperately need advise or help. Could it becoz there's some bug from my encore software? Or could it becoz I did some mistakes here?
    Jaze,
    Email : [email protected]

Override is actually called End Action Override.
So as Minu has explained it to you earlier, let me explain it again to you.
In the screen shot above what I have done is, I have set the Item 1 button's link to timeline IntroMovie and the end action of the IntroMovie is the menu again.
But I have also set the Button "Item 1" override as timeline Racing. which is shown by the dotted line in the flowchart.
Now what will hapeen while playing this is , you click on Item 1 , timeline IntroMovie will play and after that it's end action should be executed but as I have set the button override, after playing IntroMovie the control will go to the override, to timeline Racing.
So the dotted line says that after playing the timeline IntroMovie, it will not go to the menu. It will go to somewhere else which is the end action override and in this case it is the Racing timeline.
This explaination applies to all kind of overrides.
