DVD menu without a scene selection option?

Hi all,
I'm new to Premiere Elements 12, and I just finished a video. I want to add a menu with my own photograph that has an option to play movie, but no option for scene selection. When I use Premiere's templates, I can't get rid of scene selection (it's not necessary for this video because it's so short). Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do not use scene markers on the Timeline content and you should not get any Scene Selection button on the main menu and you should not have any scene selection pages.
You will just end up with a main menu page with a Play button.
If you situation is different for some reason, please give more details including the specific Premiere Elements 12 Movie Menu that you are selecting.
Thanks.

  • Create a DVD menu to play only selected scenes?

    Hi,
I'm using Premiere Elements 11.  Is it possible to create a DVD menu for automatic play of selected scenes?  As an example, my movie may have 12 scenes.  However, I would like to give the user the capability to play scenes 2, 4, 6, & 12, without interruption (or the need to go back to the menu).
    Thanks,
    Dean

    ATR,
I also think that your workaround can work for this instance, unless I mis-read the requirements.
As for Encore, as of EncoreDVD 2.0 (CS 2 Production Studio in my case), Encore CS 5, CS 5.5 and CS 6 (the end of the line for Encore), it can do that easily.
Now, I am only guessing with Sony's DVD Architect, but would hope that it can do the same. Maybe Steve Grisetti can comment, since he "wrote the book" on that program.
As we all know, PrE has many authoring limitations. First, they are semi-automatic, and very linear. That said, for most users, it works just fine. However, there are many, fairly common navigation schemes, that just do not directly figure into what it can do.
The downside to a full-featured authoring program, is that that "semi-automatic" work will not be done - one must do things by hand, but with that extra work, comes vast power. To me, that is a small trade-off. I will go for "power" any day. Of course, as I normally use Encore, I am used to doing much by hand, so it's just part of my authoring scheme.
I wish that I knew Sony's DVD Architect better, but I have used Encore for so long, that I have never found a need to even look at it. All that I know has come from here, or Muvipix, where it always gets great recs. Since Encore is no longer part of Adobe, I have the choice to either stick with my versions, or look to another authoring program. Over the years, I have used Encore, Sonic Scenarist (never owned it myself, but authored on other's systems, since it cost about US $50K), and DVD Studio (good, but with a clunky interface). Encore was my go-to app., but then, it will be no more.

  • DVD Menu play all & chapter selections

I have a client requesting something that he has done with Adobe's DVD authoring system that I don't believe Studio Pro can do, but thought I would put it out there and maybe someone else has figured it out:
He wants 2 menus (MAIN & SUB MENU) - Main would contain +play all+ or +chapter selection+ buttons. +Play all+ button would start from the beginning and play all the way to the end without stopping. +Chapter Selections+ would take you to a SUB MENU where you could select only certain sections...and here is where it's challenging... _but after that specific selection (or chapter) is finished, that it return to the Sub Menu, rather than continuing on playing the rest of the movie._
I have done such projects successfully; running time was short enough that it would allow me to make 2 Tracks. one with no chapter markers that would play all the way to the end, and the other with chapter markers indicating to jump back to a sub menu. Obviously this doubles the amount of data and it is not an option for this 95 minute program.
Am I missing something fundamental? I hope so. Any insight as always is appreciated and I hope that made sense! Thanks again.

    Hi Brittney
I just saw this post and wanted to ask you a question about stories before I set up my project.
I'm a little nervous as my project is 95 mins, has 5 Chapters, and three of these Chapters have Sub Chapters and Sub, Sub Chapters (if that makes sense?). Because the project is so long I need to set up up properly.
I need to be able to either Play All (from start to finish) or go to each Chapter/sub chapter/sub-sub Chapter and come back to the relevant chapter menu each time.
Is stories the way to go with this? I haven't done such a complex project and have always been able to use 2 tracks (a play all and then chapters) .
How do I set this up properly? If I put in all the chapter markers in the FCP timeline and export them out into Compressor and then into DVD SP, is this the best way to go?
How do I then link all my sub chapters, using Story, to come back to the relevant menu, like an end jump?
I hope this makes sense? Cheers and thanks,
    Margie
PS I have DVDSP Version 4.2.1

  • How do I get the same song to play on the main menu and during scene select

I would like the music to play continuously throught the menu and scene selection. As it is I have to drag the audio file into each scene selection, and the music starts at the beginning.
At least, is there a way to remove the awful sound track that iDVD has on the themes?
iMac 20 core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes I can add audio, how do I get the same song to play throughout the chapter menus? I have 30 "chapters", which are scenes from an hour of home movie. Can the same song play continuously throughout the different chater menus?. As it is now, I have to drag an audio file into every submenu, and it starts the song at the beginning for each chapter menu.
Otherwise, that same song that is preloaded on the theme is played. I hope this makes sence, kind of hard to explain. Thanks

  • How would i go about making this?(menu where i can select options)

    http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z100/micro5797/Kommitted/webpage.jpg
I look at a lot of web pages looking for things that i would like to impliment into my web site. I came across this.
I want to be able to have an expandable menu where i can choose different options.
I don't know what this would even be called. That would be a good start, just knowing what it is called so that i can search further for it.
Is it a type of a spry menu bar?
Is this a widget of sorts?
If anyone knows of a tutorial of how to do this, would you pleas post a link? Thanks.

Thank you all for your helps and comments. It will take me a while to get through all of this information as i
am learning it as i go. I will at a later date add the stars and check the answered question.
    @Brad Lawryk
Even though the tutorial link that i posted is too simple for what i am trying to do. I am going through it via DW just to learn. I am starting to see what you are talking about in your posts. Thanks.
    @Nancy O.
I was hesitant on posting a link to someone elses website as i am not trying to rip off/copy some one else, but make something similar, with my own ideas.

  • I would like to create chapters within my footage for Scene selection on the DVD menu

I have edited footage using FCPX and exported it to allow me to use it in IDVD. I now would like to set chapter markers so that the DVD menues allow for scene selection. I believe that I may have to do this in FCPX before exporting it
Can you tell me how to do it.
    Thank you

This is one of the most embarrassing omissions in FCP X. There is no proper facility to add chapter markers and export them with your movie.
The way I get around it is to make each chapter a separate project in its own right. I then export each of the chapters and when I bring them into my DVD Authoring application, it's a synch to add the chapter markers (between each file on the timeline) with precision.
As you've already created your project (presumably in one hit) create a new project for each chapter then copy and paste the relevant clips into each 'chapter' project, then export.
Alternatively, you can add chapter markers from within the preview window in Compressor if you have it - but it's quite fiddley and not very precise.

  • In scene selection mode, can you make iDVD return to the scene selection menu after playing that scene without continuing to play all the other scenes?

After selecting one scene from the scene selection menu, the following scenes play automatically, as if it were in "play movie" mode. Is there a way to stop that behavior and have the DVD return to the scene selection menu after playing just the selected scene?

    OK
So what You want is a "Play All" button resp. a "Play one Chapter at a time" one.
    Then
BAD News - There are Non ! in iDVD
GOOD News - it can in part be faked.
    read on
Play all resp. one chapter at a time
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in height. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !
    Mike Evangelist1
You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
    Summary
    a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
    b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.

  • Scene Selection Missing in Action

My production of a DVD of movie clips did not successfully include chapters in Scene Selection.
In iMovie, I highlighted movie clips in the clip viewer and added chapter markers via the button below the Chapters panel. The yellow diamonds showed up in the # column of the Chapters panel but in the timeline panel only at the beginning and end (I think).
I then “Shared” the iMovie with iDVD. I tried to get a preview of the movie in playback mode, but the Scene Selection button was not active. There was no filled-in yellow circle adjacent to Scene Selection. Pay Movie did have the yellow circle. I burned a disk image anyway and then burned a DVD using Disk Utility. The movie plays but without the Scene Selection working. I am, however, able to “tab” from chapter to chapter with the “virtual remote”
I must be missing a step. Any ideas?
I am confused in one other area. When I highlight a clip and click on the Add Marker button, does the chapter marker always go at the beginning of the clip? Somehow I got one to be entered at the end of a clip.

What you indicate helps. The chapter markers are now shown in the timeline and the Scene Selection in iDVD shows the yellow filled-in circle. But, in Playback mode, clicking on the Scene Selection yellow circle does not allow navigation to the scene menu. The map view show the proper layout, including the 0:00:0 icon for the start. However, the scene selection icon is generic. It does not show my movie. The chapter icons do show my movie. Clcking on the generic scene selection icon does show the selection menu with my movie. And they can be clicked and played.
    Your ideas will be appreciated.

  • Ability to create a dvd menu (for wedding) with "start" function?

    hi there
    i hope you can help.
i urgently need to create some a dvd menu for a wedding. i have the picture and i wanted some kind of effect and the options to have a 'start' option...so it plays when the user presses 'start' .. is this possible to do in elements.
i am going to have main wedding video file in a .mov file...and i wanted to to add an intro at the beginning of the video..
can you please help? this is really stressing me out..

    Travis,
The navigational functions in PrE's DVD-Video authoring module are very limited.
Pretty much, one can choose a Menu Set (both a Main Menu and a Scene Selection Menu), and then with the addition of a Menu Marker, and Scene Markers, let PrE create the linear navigation. One can modify many Menu Sets, but only to a limited level.
For more intricate navigation, I strongly recommend another program, just for the authoring. Many users sing the praises of Sony's DVD Architect, which has a much better feature-set, than does PrE. I use Adobe Encore, but it is ONLY available with PrPro, and not as a stand-alone any more.
Steve Grisetti, our MOD here, has written a great book on DVD Architect, in the Muvipix.com series, and if you do go with that program, I highly recommend his book.
    Good luck,

  • Editing DVD menu - discription

I'm using PS CS4 to make a DVD menu for use in PrE4 or PrE8 and can't find a tutoial that defines the various menu symbols -  (^^), (=1), ....... etc.  Where might I find there discriptions?
    Thanks,
    RON C

    Ronald,
I've got two sources. One is Jeff Bellune's book, Focal Easy Guide to Adobe EncoreDVD 2.0, Focal Press. He covers the DVD-spec/PSD naming conventions thoroughly. Note: there are differences specific to PrE, as it does the authoring in a semi-automatic way, unlike the manual process in Encore.
The other is the "Customizing your DVD Menus, in the Muvipix Learning Center (about 1/3 of the way down).
As noted above, things are a bit different for PrE Menus. First, they are Menu Sets, containing both a Main Menu and a Scene Selection Menu. There are special considerations for both the naming conventions of the .PSD's, but also there are .PNG's, that must be present too, to see the Menu Sets in the PrE Menu Library. The specifics of the PrE Menus should be carefully observed, as they differ from the PSD Menus in Encore, because of that semi-automatic authoring in the Elements program.
Jeff Bellune's book will give you the background on the Layer & Layer Set Naming, but does not cover the differences between the straight PSD's and the Elements Menu Set with PSD's. Jeff covers the mechanics, plus the limitations of the DVD-specs., which are very strict on Menus, especially the Sub-picture Highlights. The Menus in Elements must adhere to those same DVD-specs., plus must also adhere perfectly to certain constraints in the program.
Even with a few run-throughs of the Muvipix tutorial and Jeff's book open besides you, I would strongly recommend that you take one of the included Elements Menu Sets and study it at great lengths. Also, study the folder structure in the DVD Templates Library, and the files that are in each sub-folder. Those are important in Elements.
Personally, I find that building Menus for Encore is simple and rewarding. Most of mine are handmade, or loosely based on the Blank Menu, and then built. I find that the extra work in PrE is daunting, because of that semi-automation used by the program. Also, Muvipix has many additional Elements Menu Sets.
Muvipix is a multi-layered site. There is a forum that is open to guests. There is material (training and functional content) available free if one registers, and more that is for sale on an individual basis. Last, they offer subscriptions, and then everything is free. It did not take me too long to realize that a half-day of downloading more than paid for a subscription. I am not sure into which category the Learning Center material falls, and since I am logged in automatically from all of my browsers, cannot even tell you if it's free, for pay if you sign up, or free to a subscriber. It will be clear, when you enter the site.
Also, the forum there is very active, and many folk do design their own Elements Menus. That would be a good place to post too. The Adobe PrE forum doesn't have as many Menu designers, but there are many good articles there, that would be worth reading. Also, a post there will get quite a few responses.
Good luck, and I'll look for your posts into those two fora,
    Hunt

  • Premiere 9: Create DVD menu with several movies

I want to put several movies which I created on one DVD.  How do I do this?  I found a way to put ONE movie in the menu with its scene selection (although I can't get that to work, which is a separate issue), but I haven't found a way of pullling in the FOUR movies.

You can look at the Duration of each Project's Timeline and jot down the total runtime for each. Add those together to get the full runtime/Duration of the multiple Projects. If you have already Exported/Shared to a DV-AVI, you can get that Duration for each with G-Spot, or another similar utility. If you have already Imported those DV-AVI's into the new, combined Project, just look at the Duration on the Timeline Ruler.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - When working with TimeCode (00;00;00;00 - Hours; Minutes; Seconds; Frames), I really like the free WFT Timecode Calculator. It also allows one to choose the FPS of the base.
PPS - One can also play the resultant DV-AVI's in WMP, VLC, MediaPlayer Classic HC, or other players, and see what the Duration of each is.

  • Is there any restriction on no of entries in Select-option-low ?

Is there any restriction on no of entries in Select-option-low ? I have a select option which has 22 thousand entries and the select query is thrwoing a dump.
    Any inputs ?
    Regards,
    Ankur Bhandari

    Hi Ankur,
    1. i had faced same problem.
    2. Virtually the limit in SELECT-OPTION low
       is not the problem.
    3. The problem is with SQL query and database limit.
    4. The R/3 system generates final database query
in the form of (for select option)
       FIELD IN ('ABC','DEF','XYZ',........'')
    5. Now Oracle/SqlServer
has limit of THESE IN VALUES.
limit is something in 2500 approx.
    6. So your approach will not work
      using IN.
It will always give error when
       entries are more.
    7. SOLUTION which i did.
       1. First select all appropriate records from
          master table in your itab
(without using IN select option clause)
      2. After that use this concept.
         Loop at ITAB.
         If Itab-Field in SelectOption.
         Else.
         DELETE ITAB.
         ENDIF.
The above will take care for any number of records.
    I hope it helps.

    Hi at all,
I want to create a button that calls a popup like in the select options, without using the select options component.
In Standard ABAP there is a function called "COMPLEX_SELECTIONS_DIALOG" who creates and call the dialog.
Does anybody know an adaption for this function in Web Dynpro for ABAP?
    Thx a lot to all.
    Dirk

    Hello Dirk,
We have a new enhacement in code wizord by which you could replicate a screen into a webdynpro view.
So the framework would choose different ui elements to create similar screen,
