DVD Movies aren't recognized when inserted.

When I insert a DVD movie into the drive, it does not read and ejects after a few minutes.  Drive works fine for CDs.  Can someone help me please?

It is possible for one part of an Optical drive to go out & not the other, as they use different circuits & lasers.
In System Prefs CDs & DVDs, what is set to happen when a DVD is inserted?
Have you tried one of those cleaning CDs that cleans the heads?

recently I have replaced black cartridge(hp 678) and a message appears saying "ink cartridge failture-black".Although I unplugged and replugged the printer, problem exists. Then I removed colour cartridge from the printer and then only the black cartridge  detected. After re-inserting the colour cartridge the problem appears again.

Hello TamilSelvam, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are running into print quality issues.  I would like to help.
I would recommend removing your ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would then suggest utilizing the steps in this document on Troubleshooting Print-Quality Issues.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • IDVD 6 dvd-rom content of images used in the movie aren't visible on winbox

I created a slideshow in iPhoto 6, exported as a QuickTime movie, and then imported that movie into iDVD 6.
Into the advanced menu, edit dvd-rom window, I dragged from iPhoto, the album of the images used to create the QuickTime movie.
After burning the project onto a dvd-r disc, I checked the disc on my mac. Both the movie and the dvd-rom contents of the images viewed perfectly.
On two winboxes running xp, the dvd movie played flawlessly, but when navigating, in win explorer, to the folder with the images, neither winbox was able to recognize the images as being images. They show the image titles below icons, but the images never load, nor when clicked, do they open.
Is there something back in iDVD or iPhoto that I can do to assure cross platform compatibility? I've searched this forum and looked at the relevant section of D. Pogue's iMovie 6/iDVD Missing Manual book, but it doesn't speak to this. It seems to suggest that there shouldn't be a problem.
My other thought is that I had saved my iDVD project as a disc image, then used DiskUtility to burn it onto the dvd-r. Is there something I need to do to from DiskUtility to assure cross platform compatibility?
    Thanks,
    John

Okay, I figured out what was wrong. The problem was that when dragging the images to the edit dvd-rom content window, I had dragged from iPhoto. My iPhoto preferences are to NOT copy the images when importing, so when I dragged to iDVD, what I was dragging were only aliases of the images.
I trashed the disc image that I had created, and in iDVD, then dragged the actual images from the folder in which they resided, to the edit dvd-rom content window. I then saved as a disc image again.
Now, after burning a dvd-r in Disk Utility of that disc image, the images are recognized in the winboxes. They actually load much more quickly on my son's hp box than they do on my G4 mini!
I believe that when I had been checking the original dvd-r that I had burned which held the aliases, my mac linked those to the images which it had on the hard drive, so of course they were visible.
So, all of you out there that may have a similar situation, make sure you're dragging the actual photos, and not the aliases!

  • SuperDrive ejects DVD movie disc after scanning

    Hi,
Recently I purchased a few new DVD movie titles. However when I insert the new disc into my iMac's SuperDrive, it scans it (making some noise) and after a while ejects it.
I understand that these new DVD movie discs could be copy protected. However if this is so then this does not allow me to make backup copies of them.
Eventually I bought a DVD player, and I could play all the DVD purchased.
Is there a way I could make my iMac read these discs and make backup copies of them?
    Thanks.
    Best regards,
    Jude.

    Hi Jude,
I'm having the same problems... the drive makes a grinding noise and then rejects the discs. I also own all the DVD's so there shouldn't be any copyright issues. It just seems like the drive has died, but I just bought the computer last September... that seems awfully fast for a drive to die even with my considerable usage. Did you find anything out to fix? Afraid I'll have to get it serviced soon.
    Regards,
    L.

Movies won't work when a DVD is inserted.  What do I do to watch a movie ?

Just one DVD or all of them?
Some DVD's just need a gentile cloth and rubbing alcohol wipe on the bottom to rid of fingerprints etc.
If your using out of region code DVD's (each area of the world has regions codes assigned to the computer and disks) then that needs to be changed.
This can happen if you buy a Mac used from another part of the world or use DVD's from another region.

  • [nForce] no audio on disk or image when burning a dvd movie

i've recently bought a K7N2 Delta I lsr and since i've had this i have never been able to burn a dvd movie no matter what i try. I've started from scratch trying with just the AC-97 audio drivers installed and downloaded the latest nforce audio drivers from nvida website, nomatter what i do i cant get a movie on disk correctly. When i build an image on my harddrive, i play it and theres no audio and when i build a dvd disk either the audio wont play or the entire disk wont play. my dvd player either says disk cannot be played or the disk is dirty. But when i import the image or disk into dvd shrink the film plays fine with audio. I'm at a total loss. i dont think that my processor has anything to do with it but i have an AMD Athlon 3200+ and 512meg 3200 Geil ram. If anybody has any ideas or better still a solution i would greatly appreciate a reply.. Thankx for your reply in advance...

    Hello SON!
Recently bought, you say. Does that mean you have installed all mobo drivers, repair installed Windows, etc?
Have you tried the disks in another system?
Do you use the same software for playing and recording?
I don't think this is it, I think it is a software/driver problem, but two quick ones:
Untic in Device Manager for the optical device "Recognise insertion", as that can ruin a burn.
Remove the audio cable if you got one between the optical device and the sound card.

    Hi
    No Menu on DVD
    from. Mishmunken
How to create a DVD in iDVD6 without menu (there are several options)
    1. Easy. Drop your iMovie in the auto-play box in iDVD's Map View, then set your auto-play item (your movie) to loop continuously.
Disadvantage. The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy. If you don't want your (auto-play) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the drop-zone (text needs to be black as well).
Disadvantage. The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time. Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage. One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software. Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn.
Disadvantage. you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way". Post-production with myDVDedit (free-ware)
    Tools necessary. myDVDedit ( www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager.

  • Mac superdrive not recognizing and playing dvd movies?

I'm not sure how long this problem has been going on or not but I cannot seem to play any DVD's, I've tried about three or four different ones that do play on other devices (PS3, my old Toshiba) so I know they actually work.  I have tried running in VLC and it either hangs or today it tried to load a movie and it gave me a yellow triangle next to the name (not sure what that means).  I have looked at other CD's and non-movie DVD's and those seem to work fine.  I've looked into the region issue but I'm pretty sure I have that set correctly.  I'm just trying to see if there are options short of having to go the apple store.
    I have a late 2011 MBP 15in.

    >Does your computer see a blank DVD when inserted with LR active
Yes... Mac Pro w/ Leopard 10.5.2.
Are you running any Western Digital software for external drives? I had a problem with it a version or so ago, and had to uninstall it to make blank media behave properly. Haven't messed with it since and haven't had any problems.

  • Making a DVD play when inserted without a menu?

How can I make a DVD that when inserted just begins playing video? I tried just adding the video, though I am unable to delete the menu and theme.
    Thanks.

    Hi
You can do it in two ways:
    a. Drop Your movie icon into the auto-play box in iDVD (When You select it to show
a block-diagram with boxes). Auto-play box is the upper left most box.
Now it will: Auto start - BUT it ends on a menu.
    • You can set - looping - then it will re-start after reaching end
    • Or You can modify a menu: Take a silent one eg Brushed Metal and the add a
black .jpg photo to hid the rest. (Or a photo with THE END)
    *alt b.*
In iMovie if Your movie is less than 60min (Don't try LP-mode on Camera)
    • Copy back to a miniDV tape in Camera (There are 90 minutes ones)
    • Close iMovie and start iDVD
    • Select OneStep DVD
Now iDVD will copy Your tape to a DVD - Without any theme/menu

  • Creating dvd to auto play when inserted

I have a movie reel that i made and saved on my computer but when i recorded it to DVD it wouldn't play automatically when inserted in the computer like a normal DVD does. Does anyone know how I can get this function to work?
    Thanks!

    Diana, welcome to the discussions.
Normally this is not an issue, but it can occur for a variety of reasons.
The first thing I would try is shut your computer clear off.
After a minute or so, restart your computer and put your DVD in and don't touch anything.
Your DVD Player should mount automatically, and the DVD should start playing.
If not, my guess is you have several video editing, or some related video files that a re stored on your computer in cache files and other places that need to be cleaned out, using some free 3 rd party software.
Here is another real good link for you.
This link applies to all OSX Operating Systems, and the free utilities are at the bottom of this link. Don

  • DVD's come up as blank when inserted.

I have a home movie collection on DVD that I am trying to copy to my hard drive. About a quarter of the DVD's come up "blank disc" when inserted.  They were all created using a windows computer. Why is this and is there a way to get the Mac to read them so they can be copies to the Mac hard drive?

Check to see if they work on other DVD players or computers. One thing I have noticed is that many recordable DVD media is, well to put it simply, junk.
I come across quite a few DVD media that contains data, movies, or images, and the media is no longer readable by most DVD players. And this after only a few years of storage.
Anyway if you find a DVD that will play on, use that player to copy the information, you can then create new copies.

  • How do I turn off computer monitor when watching DVD movie on TV monitor?

I think this is really a Leopard question because it involves setting up 2 monitors in System Preferences within OSX. 1) I have a wide screen TV connected to my iMac (Intel White Late 2006) through the Mini-DVI port and a separate audio cable. This connection works fine. 2) The purpose of the TV screen is only to watch DVDs using the DVD player and iDVD in my iMac. 3) In System Preferences->Displays->Arrangement, both my computer monitor and the TV screen appear as separate monitors. I have the setting to mirror each other. With this setting, the DVD movie plays on both the iMac computer screen and on the TV screen. 4) FINALLY, MY QUESTION: When watching a DVD on the TV screen, I would like to turn off the monitor in my iMac so that the screen is dark (in sleep mode to save power, etc.); I want only the TV screen to display the movie. How do I turn off only the iMac screen? Thank you. Dale

That's impossible. It can only be done on a laptop but not on an iMac.

  • Loss of quality of exported DVD movie on TV when compared to Digital original

    Hi
Can anyone please suggest a way to limit the loss in quality when burning a completed movie to a DVD for TV playback?
When I playback on my Mac monitor (in either MPEG or H.264 saved versions) the image quality is 'mint' and seems as clear/rich as it was filmed.
However, once I have exported (using various 'best options' availible to me in via Prem Pro export menus) the SD (and Blu-ray) DVD playback on a TV seems a long way away from the quality level of the digital original still playing on my Mac.
I am prepared for a drop in quality in both SD and even HD formats due to the compression processes, but I'm still disapointed with how amazing my digital copy looks compared to my best DVD efforts.
Why is it that commercial 'hollywood' SD are still miles apart from my 'home made' version?
Can anyone please suggest their tried/test 'digital alchemy' formular for getting fantastic results onto a DVD/TV playback, please?
    Here are my current details/settings:
Canon 5d and XF300 to capture 1080p 25 fps footage (timeline created to match footage)
CS5.5 platform = Premiere Pro/After Effects/Media Encoder/Encore (and burn saved ISO image using Roxio Toast version 10)
Length of edits = 40 to 50 minutes (approximately) creating HD but mainly SD event movies.
Create HD but mainly SD versions
Export out of Prem Pro = MPEG or MPED-DVD/Blu-ray H.264
    Video Quality = 5
Field order = None/Progressive (matching my original source footage)
    VBR 2 = Min 7/Target 8/Max 8.5 or CBR 8
    Use Maximum Render Quality
Could the issue be with what happens after the export from PremPro into Encore?
What else could/should I be doing?
All constructive comments are very weclome and appreciated ...
    Thanks,
    B

Why is it that commercial 'hollywood' SD are still miles apart from my 'home made' version?
Because they use super-expensive hardware compression.
Still, I make DVDs that look almost exactly like the output from Pr using my Kona card.
I wonder if you're ending up with double-compression on your DVD.  And maybe I'm confused here, but it sounds like you're using Toast and Encore, and I see no reason for that, if so.
There are a few ways to get to DVD from Pr.  The simplest may be just to send your Pr project to Encore, using Dynamic Link.  That will ensure you're only compressing once.
Another is to export from Pr or AME using a DVD preset, and when you take the resulting MPEG2 to Encore, be sure your clips are set to "Don't transcode."  And use the comparable strategy for BR.
CBR at 8 should yield you stunning looking DVDs.
