DVD movies to ITunes ?

Hi guys
I wasn't able to find this answer...so here it goes...
Is there a way to get your own DVD movies onto ITunes so that you can load those movies on your IPod?

Your own unencrypted disks from iDVD for example, can be converted with a number of legal applications such as Videora or iSquint. Protected files cannot. The fastest way on a mac is with Elgato's Turbo.264 USB device which offloads the H.264 encoding to the device and is a lot faster like 4X the speed (note ADS makes/sells one that looks identical so there may be a Windows version out there). However the above applications and device will not work with commercial DVD's at all.

Does anyone know how to import or copy my DVD movies to itunes? I am trying to import or copy them into itunes so I can watch them on my apple tv?

  • How do I get DVD movies into iTunes (and thus my iPad)?

I have a pc with Windows XP. How do I import my DVD movies into iTunes? Do I need to buy additional software? Or is my best bet joining netflix?
    Thanks!

you can copy them for your own use.
Copying is not the issue. Breaking the encryption is.
But it's kind of a catch 22 in that you cannot copy a DVD unless you break the encryption.
    in Europe it is not
    Europe is not one country.
Most European countries have their own equivalent of the DMCA and it is illegal to break the encryption in some of these countries.

They must be in mp4 format. With quicktime pro, you can convert videos to the file type that itunes will recognize and that will play on the video ipod...
Or you can download this free converter...

  • Download DVD movie for iTunes Store not showing up in my purchased items

I downloaded a DVD movie from the iTunes store but it's not showing up in my iTunes application or any where else that I can see. What am I doing wrong?

I am having the same problem. Have you heard anything back on this, or figured out anything that might help me as well?

  • Using Handbrake to burn DVD movie to iTunes to sync to iTouch

What steps do you take to burn a DVD movie to iMac iTunes so you can sync it when iTouch is hooked to it?

Burning is creating a CD/DVD as when you burn the disc with the laser.
RIP is getting the stuff off a CD/DVD.
It is illegal to RIP DVDs to your computer (even if you purchased the DVD), therefore cannot be discussed in these forums.

  • Is there any way to import my OWN DVD movies into iTunes and my video iPod?

I just purchased the new 30 GB video iPod last week, and although I have already purchased a few movies from the iTunes store, I wanted to know if there was a way to import a DVD movie from my own DVD library like we can with our own music CDs?
    Thanks,

"That's too bad, because these are movies (DVDs) that I own and have purchased legally myself. How is that different from importing your own purchased CDs into iTunes? Seems like a double standard to me."
About "legally owning" the DVDs - Yes, I understand, and I'm figuring that most folks who want to put their DVDs onto their iPod are owning the movies legally (or, at least, it appears so).
That's not really the issue here, though.
The problem is, there is an encryption that is written onto regular, copyrighted DVDs (i.e., movies). In order to get that onto your iPod, you will have to use software on your computer that breaks that encryption, and makes the file into some more "normal" format, like say, MP4.
This action can arguably be considered as illegal, in a sense, since you are removing the encryption that's on DVD, which is protecting it from being easily copied, and transferred around. (which would be illegal).
This is a bit different than CDs, since, although they are copyrighted too, the songs are usually not in a protected format.
If you have a song that you've purchased from the iTunes Store, and you want to break into that "protected" file format, that's the same kind of issue as the DVD ripping.
(Notice that the Hosts included that into the ADUA as well, right along with DVD ripping.)
...It's quite an interesting kind of subject, isn't it?

  • Are you allowed to import a DVD movies onto iTunes?

Are you allowed to import DVD movies (eg: Batman Begins, Spider Man,...) onto iTunes now that it has the "Videos" Source?

Thirty days from the time of rental, or 24(USA)/48 hours from the time it's first played, whichever comes first.

  • Loading DVD movies into iTunes 10.6.3 over OS10.6.8 stream to iPad

    Hi,
I am on holidays and want to watch a DVD (No Code of Conduct, always been a Martin Sheen fan) I bought at a Yard Sale. My van is set up to port the iPad audio through the van stereo and has a mounting bracket for the iPad that makes it handy to watch while in the bed. Fortunately, I brought my MacBook along for the DVD player. I want to watch the movie on the iPad while it is playing in the MacBook. I tried to load the DVD into iTunes for Home Sharing , but no luck there.
How do I stream a DVD movie to my iPad from my MacBook?
    Ken

Sorry Winston, but I can and have done it.
Not the way I wanted to but it works none the less.
First, convert the DVD to a format usable by iTunes
Second, import the converted movie to iTunes and turn on home sharing for the MacBook AND the iPad, log in both machines
Third, make sure both devices are connected to the same network. I also tried turning on web sharing on the MacBook but for some reason we sharing wouldn't run so I connected to an another available network.
Last, run Video on the iPad, select the movie and badda bing, it works.
NOTE, try this with a better movie next time. Although I like Martin Sheen, not the best choice.
    Ken
PS. I'll report back when I get websharing working to see if it runs without an outside network.
PPS. Since the movie was loaded into iTunes it was easy to sync the movie into the iPad for watching without the help of the MacBook.

  • Salient diffs, DVD Movie vs. iTunes Movie

I've got a 40" HDTV with a couple of HDMI inputs and a 5.1 surround sound system with an optical input. Great for watching DVD movies. But I'm more than a little confused by the tech specs for iTunes movies and AppleTV. Can someone who knows tell me in plain language how the viewer experience will differ between say, watching a DVD from Netflix and buying a movie from iTunes and streaming it to my HDTV/5.1 sound system? I imagine I'm not the only one who will be interested in an informed answer. Thanks.

OK, so I think we're both saying the same thing here, that the image height of the movie is less than 480 pixels, and thus less than DVD quality. And in the case of 2.35:1 movies, significantly less. I suppose that when you add compression artifacts on top of that, you're really taking about substantial degradation.
At the risk of splitting semantic hairs, I'm not sure I'd agree with substantial degradation.
Provided the compression tools are up to snuff, live-action 1.78:1 material works quite well in h.264 for iPod form when compared to MPEG-2 for DVD. Animation (be it CGI or 2D) is much tougher because compression algorithms have the most trouble with high-contrast edges (and that's all animation is, high-contrast edges). MPEG-2 for DVD has it easier with animation because DVDs can be interlaced, h.264, on the other hand, is progressive-only (and deinterlacing animation drops quality substantially)
Anyway, I believe Apple is being truthful when they advertise it as 'near-DVD quality.' (however dubious a notion that might be

  • How do I get a DVD movie onto iTunes ??

I have been trying to get the DVD on to iTunes but it doesn't work correctly. Any ideas?

If it's a commercial DVD, you have to first break the CSS encryption, which is illegal in many countries so against the forum rules for anyone to tell you how to do here.
If it's a non-commercial DVD, Handbrake is a graet program to convert dvd's to MP4's that will play on the ipad

  • Can't import DVD movies to iTunes

I am unable to import DVD's I have purchased into itunes. I can import music CDs. Is there a way to do this?
    Thank you

there is a way to do this.
there is a third party program called Total Video Converter available on Download.com
it gives you a two-week free trial but you can convert any video and rip any part(s) of DVDs you want. Even the whole film
it costs around $25.00 i believe, but i don't know what that is in £s.

  • Can i sync dvd movies to itunes?

hey i have a couple dvds and i want to sync them to my iphone anyone know how?

Doing so is against the terms of use for these discussions due to copyright issues. This involves more than making a copy - it involves changing the original format which is may not be kosher with the party that owns the distribution rights for the content.
