DVD not burning.

I am trying to copy a disk image onto a DVD. I get the message, "Unable to burn. The device failed to respond properly. Unable to recover or retry." Is the "device" referred to the actual blank DVD or the DVD burner. Thanks. (If this post is a repeat, I apologize - think I lost the first one.)

First you need to drag and drop the plist for iDvd to the trash (empty it) and restart your mac.
com.apple.iDvd.plist
Secondly, repair permissions.
Thirdly, read these links:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302925
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006
And lastly, burn a disc image first from the file menu within iDVD.
Test the image with apple's DVD Player App. Assuming it plays as expected, then use apple's disc utilities / toast to burn at 4 x or slower.....slower is better.
Make sure to use only Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R for troubleshooting on this iDVD forum.
Good luck and I hope this helps but if not, come on back.

  • Dvd not burning properly, not recognized by DVD Player

I have not burned video DVD's for several months until this week when I find that disks burned from disk images created by IDVD no longer burn properly. They are not recognized by Apple DVD player or on two different commercial players that I have.  The disk images can be played with Apple DVD player, but once burned to disk, I get a message Disk not Supported.  I have tried burning disks from 3 reputable brands with the same results.  I just updated to OS X 10.8.5.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Another thing to check is your bitRates and whether you encoded the audio to A.Pack/Dolby. I have often seen machines play once or twice then start having playback issues or not play. It can be related to the encode rates (and it may not behave across different machines the same way, in other words it will continue to play fine on some players and not another)

  • Cd/DVD not burning.  Error Code 0x8002006E when burning DVD's

I have a MacBook Black and am trying to burn cd's and dvd's. I have tried multiple brands of DVD and CD and can get the cd's to burn once in a while with a microboards printable cd. When they don't burn I get either an error saying something about not being able to calibrate laser power, or it goes through like it's burning and shows up on the desktop, but when I go to open the disk, there is nothing on it. DVD's never finish, giving me the error code 0x8002006E. It will also not read any DVDr's on the machine. Stamped DVD's (store bought)are fine, but multiple brands of DVDr will not read. All of the burned DVD's I have are personal movies and music videos that I made on the machine. Anyone have any suggestions? Is my superdrive toast?

You can check in system profile and select disc burning to verify what cd/dvds are readable by your superdrive....Also with that error message you can try removing any extra ram chip installed, with that model powerbook it also has onboard ram built into logic...being a disc reading problem id say its the superdrive itself, you can try cleaning the lens with those cleaning discs you buy from electronic stores..Burn disc whilst running on power adaptor and not battery...
just a few things to try might help you

  • DVD not burning music issue

Can anyone help me. I've encountered a very odd problem. I exported a slide show with a music from Iphoto. It's now in quicktime and when I imported it into IDVD it plays with the music and during the preview. It even plays when I open it in quicktime with the music. But the problem arises when I attempt to burn the file through IDVD to a disc. I've tried each time and each time unsuccessfully the audio portion of the slide (which has the music) doesn't burn onto the dvd. The slide show with images burns perfectly, but not the music. Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am having the exact same problem with this slight variation. I made the slide show in Keynote. The music is a soundtrack I downloaded from iTunes. Everything works perfect in preview. When I burn the DVD, the music works fine when the menu is on screen, but when you go to play the slideshow, it stops. So I tried burning it again but this time with the slideshow starting automatically. Again, no music during slideshow, but when you stop the slideshow and go to the menu, the music starts. Arghhh!!!!

  • DVD not burning at 16X

I just replaced the original CD-R with an LG 16X DVD-R in the G4 800 at work.
Unfortunately it's not recording at 16X, only at 8X. I don't think it's the media, as it states it can be recorded at 16X, and I burned several ones already. Toast 7 indicates that it can burn at 16X, but as soon as the disk is inserted it goes to "best" and it takes 15min to record a full 4.7GB disc.
Could the ATA 66 of the drive be holding back the speed ?
I have a ATA TEMPO 133 PCI card. Would it be recognized by the OS if I connected the disk to it ?
    Thanks in advance
    Pedro

    Pedro,
They burn at 16X (in Theory), they only reach "up to" 16X on certain parts of the disc. It sounds like your drive needs updated firmware to recognize the actual brand of media you're trying to use. My G4 actually burns at the 16X speeds and it's my G5 that lags big time (on certain brands)because of firmware. Todays recorders have a true average of about 12X. It also may be your HDD is not pumping the data fast enough through the pipes or it can be a faulty cable as well. It can be one of several things and I'd start with the cable, check it for any punctures or small tears and make sure it's connected securely on both ends. After that make sure your HDD is in good working order, run some good utilities such as Disk Warrior, Tech Tool or Drive Genius so you can be sure your directories and structures of your disk are OK. Try running Apple's hardware test (shipped with the computer) and see if the Logic Board and everything else passes.

  • Help Missing movie.  DVD not burning as shown in Preview

I created a DVD Project using 2 movies and one slideshow (separate buttons). Plays perfectly in the Preview within IDVD. I burned the disc, watched on the DVD Player, and the button that should have the first movie, plays the second movie. The other two buttons work correctly. Can't find the other movie anywhere.
I checked the Project Info. and it shows the correct asset listed for the missing first movie, also shows that it has encoded. The map view within IDVD looks correct also.
I have 17.23GB available still on my PowerBook.
    Any ideas???
I know that I should make a disc image and check that first. I was just trying to do it quickly as a gift. I'll check the disc image next.

Well....I fixed it, but don't know how necessarily.
    I did the following....
    1. repaired permissions.
    2. Told IDVD to look for movies on Desktop (where movie was)
    3. Deleted the old broken movie button & added the movie button again.
    4. Made a "Disk image", checked it, and burned from there through Disk Utility.

  • DVD not burning completely

I've been trying to burn a project onto a double layer dvd. I changed the dvd type in the project info to double layer, so i really don't know what's going on. I have to make multiple copies, and i have made 3 succesfully so far. but after the third dvd, i haven't been able to actually burn another one. I've tried 3 times with other blank double layered ones, and it only burns partially. At the very end of the burnin process, before it is actually finished burning, the dvd just ejects, although the box on the screen still says that it's loading, so i cancel it. Then when i put the dvd in, only the menu will play, and when i try to select a video, it takes a while to load, then the screen just goes blank. I've gone through 3 double layered dvds that have been ejected too early and only have menus on them. I can't use them anymore since they now have stuff on them and i can't erase the menus on them with disk utility. I really don't want to waste anymore dvds because the double layered ones are expensive. I've tried making copies of the other dvds, but disk utilty keeps showing errors when i try to create a new disk image from one of the good dvds. i have to get four more of these dvds burned by friday, and i've been working at this all day and i really dont know what to do.

I've also tried splitting the project in half into two different projects and burnign them on single layer dvds (i changed the project info dvd type) and they didn't burn either, the same thing happened.

  • Windows 7 does not recognize cd/dvd drive. Will not burn a disc

In November 2013, I  bought a refurbished hp Compaq 7900 convertible minitower, Product No. NJ3226UC#ABA, 32-bit.  Windows 7 and WMP 12 were installed by the company that refurbished it.   WMP's  play, rip, burn, sync worked perfectly.
I made the mistake of installing itunes.  I purchased music and made a playlist from my library and itunes.  I tried to burn the playlist with Memorex discs.  WMP burn would kick out the cd at 99% complete.  I tried a different brand of disc and had the same  problem.  The message each time was 'Windows Media Player Encountered an error while burning. Verify that the burner is connected properly and that the disc is clean and not damaged.'  I tried burning a disc using itunes burner but it didn't do anything.
First, I removed every Apple application from my computer.  Then I ran Microsoft CD/DVD trouble shooter.  It didn't correct the problem and gave me the message "cannot locate CD/DVD burner".  I ran trouble shooter in the Control  Panel selected System Security's, Find and Fix. Then Selected  Configure a Device .  Results were 'Hardware may not be detected try to do what you wanted to do again' I tried 2-3 times.  WMP would not burn.  Tried Apple for help and didn't want to reinstall itunes.  I reinstalled Quick Time.   Followed Microsoft's 5-step resolutions:
              1.  Used the troubleshooter in Control Panel.
              2.  Ran CD/DVD Fixit trouble shooter.
              3.  Manually fix corrupted registry.
              4.  Update or reinstall driver.
              5.  Create a sub registry key.
I tried to burn after every step and got the same result.it burned to 99% and kicked out. I used system restore back to May 15, 2014  thaat was before installing iTunes.  No burn.   Checked  driver and response was that 'Driver is working.  No problem was found'.    Today, ran Troubleshooter in ControI Panel and this was the messsage, 'Configuration Settings May Be Incorrect'.  How do I correct  this?  Help!  What next?

    Hi,
You were given some very good advice on your other post.  I ran into a very similar issue when I had installed iTunes and the end result was that I had to do a factory recovery back to a day one condition. Then I had to do a slow software installation process, checking every time I had installed a third party application.  I got tripped up a couple of times but determined that I had to install iTunes before installing other CD/DVD media programs (Roxio,WMP and Cyberlink).
Do a fresh OS installation without the extra third party software and then install Imgburn.  Then use Imgburn to determine the capabilities of your optical drive and match the media specifications those detected by Imgburn to the media type that you are using. Do not use cheap media as the firmware in your optical drive may not support it. I prefer to use Verbatim media. Now see if Imgburn will burn your optical media before attempting to install iTunes and other CD/DVD optical media programs.

Hi i am having a i MAC which has mountain lion OS 10.8.2. I am facing teh followwing issues with my disk drive
    1. I am unable to read all DVDS in it some DVDS work while others do not
    2. I am able to read all CD's, but while burning a CD i am prompted with the following message
" Unable to caliberate lazer power"
    3. Kindly assit me in solving this problem
    regards

    Hi
    Four thoughts
    • Brand and type of DVD/CD Media
    • Burn Speed ?
    • Ever used a Cleaning DVD ?
    • Free space on Main Start-Up Hard Disk ?
Brand and type of DVD/CD Media: MATTERS
    - Memorex, NoName and other Cheap brands - most probably works for other things BUT NOT FOR VIDEO.
    I only use Verbatim
    - DVD-RW - usually do not work OK but with various kinds of problems. DVD+R is a more modern sort and use to give problems on older DVD-players
    I only use DVD-R
Burn Speed (in iDVD or alike): Matters
    • Best or Max - is not best
I set it down to x2 or x4 Max
Ever used a Cleaning DVD ?
I use one WITHOUT Liquid but with brushes from time to time
Free space on Main Start-Up Hard Disk ?
    - Due to that Mac OS X - is UNIX - it behaves likewise. It needs lot's of space on Boot / Start-Up Hard Disk for it's and the applications temp files.
I never go less than 25GB free space - If HD-Video material is used then 4-5 times more is a good thing.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) - i can not burn Data-DVDs anymore...

    System: iMac G4, 1GHz, 1GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.5, 4x SuperDrive (SONY DVD RW DW-U10A)
    Dear Apple Support,
since Mac OS X 10.4.4 (same with 10.4.5) i can not burn a Data DVD-RW anymore. It is so annoying. I want to burn my backup on a DVD-RW with the Burn Folders in Mac OS X. it is not possible.
The Finder burn dialog hangs at the "ending burning process". It is so annoying.
It's not possible to erase this "half burned" DVD-RW too! So I have here a lot of destroyed DVD-RWs around me...
The burning of DVD-RWs is a problem since 10.4.0 here on my machine. With 10.4.3 it was half o.k. ... But since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) nothing works anymore.
Your product "Mac OS X Tiger" is nearly one year in the market. And burning a Data-DVD is not a exotical thing. It is a essential feature of a Operating System today. So what are you doing in your Test-Labs?
I am sitting here since 1 year with an Operating System from Apple an it doesn't works in the essential features.
Whats about your slogan "It just works"?
What happens with the quality of Apple?
Under 10.3.9 Panther i can burn everything. It absolutly no problem there.
So i don't understand what are you doing with Tiger?
    It's so annoying!
    Regards
    Roessner

I can burn CDs,play CDs and watch DVDs. I can not burn DVDs. I have iLife but I cannot run iDVD because it is not compatible with of my version of OS. Why I don't know. Why should I have to buy every upgrade that come out? I can live with that, sort of, but why can't I burn a data DVD? I looked for a new driver but there does not seem to be one for Leopard. will I have to buy iLife 09 to bun a DVD?

  • Logitech external USB DVD reader/burner model LDR-PMD8U2LBK not recognized.

Got a external USB DVD reader/burner Logitech model LDR-PMD8U2LBK.
I plug the device, use the adapter but nothing happens. I tried to boot the computer with the driver plugged in, again, nothing. If I put a DVD in the driver, I hear the machine buffer but on the screen, nothing. Checked all the view options, everything is selected. It doesn't appear in the Disk Utility neither. Tried to open a DVD with VLC Player, to no avail. Checked on Logitech's site, there are no drivers for this driver. The seller told me that it should be compatible with my black macbook, I guess there is still a possibility that it is not...

You shouldn't need drivers for a USB or Firewire connected external device.
