DVD Not reading in Windows 7 MBP

Hello Everyone I really need help because today i go to insert a disc into my MBP and it goes in fine. It just wont show up at all. but if i start up Mac OSX the disc reads fine. I've tried many discs and nothing worked. It did work at a time.

Hi all + bladewing,
My DVD drive is now detected and working!!! What I had to do was;
1. I created a new partition (on the same hard drive) and temporarily installed Vista on the Partition (Making it a Dual Boot PC).
2. After Windows Vista was installed, I went into the Device manager, to find that the DVD Drive was successfully installed.
3. In windows explorer, I went to the directory D:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers and copied the file cdrom.sys and moved it to the partition in which Windows 7 was installed (C:\) . (Note: In this case D: was the partition in which Windows Vista was installed, and C: was the drive in which Windows 7 was installed.)
4. I booted into Windows 7, and the driver was successfully installed.
Done.
If anyone else is experiencing this same problem, and needs help with resolving it, please do not be afraid to PM me or post on this same Message. Also, I have the cdrom.sys file (from Vista – mentioned in this post) available if you wish me to send it to you or upload it.
Once again, thank you for all your help with this issue.
Thanks,
Dean.S

  • Ipod not read by Windows or itunes

I have an older ipod clickwheel. It worked beautifully until 10/15/08 when my computer ("computer A") automatically installed Windows Vista updates. When I connected my ipod to the computer's USB port, I got a nasty whirring sound and it did not appear in Windows or itunes. I toggled hold switch, reset and disconnected. I then connected it to my laptop ("computer B") and it worked perfectly. Now laptop has automatically installed Windows updates (Windows 2003, not Vista) and the ipod is doing same thing on that computer -- endless whirring, frozen up, not recognized by Windows or itunes. When I reset my ipod, it works fine, but I can't update any of my music/podcasts because it won't sync. It's forever stuck on 10/15/08 content. What should I try next? Thanks

    erfva,
If you can get the iPod recognized in iTunes, you can always attempt to restore it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
However, if it's not recognized in iTunes you can attempt to format it using Disk Mode, using your Windows OS (just like you would format any drive). Here is a good article on what to do if the iPod is not seen in iTunes: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1373?viewlocale=en_US
Unfortunately beyond that, especially if it's making whirring or clicking sounds, it can be a hardware failure which would require service: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1382
    Hope this helps,
    Raleigh

  • Ipod is not read by windows, and cannot update!!! please help...

I have a 30GB, 7500 song ipod Video, just bought last year. The issue all started a month or so ago. I use the "iPod dock connector to USB 2.0 cable" to connect the ipod to the computer. I have tried both USB ports that I have, and both do not work. The ipod is not read by the computer, therefore, the computer acts like there is no connection. Itunes as well, does not read the ipod. I cannot add new songs to the ipod, or even charge it. I have tried all the things the website has said (i.e. restart computer, reset ipod, reinstall itunes, download latest version of itunes). I just updated to itunes 7 today, and this problem has gone on for awhile, therefore it is not because of the itunes 7. Since I figure it is the dock connector I have put in a self service request.
Apparently this is a common problem...Anyone have any advice? I am desperate...Thanks in advance.

On iTunes go click Store (on the top left side) then click Authorize computer...

  • MBP 15" Penryn - 2.5 Most commercial DVDs not read and ejected

    Hi,
The one week old thing seems to refuse most DVDs. Sometimes, a previously rejected DVD will be read but not always. Please excuse me but I did not attempt to test all the functionality of the drive. I tried to repair permissions to no avail. Details of the culprit below. Any idea?

well, the ejecting happens when the region code of the dvd is not correct. Try inserting your own DVDs or blanks and see if it still ejects.

Hi everyone, sorry if i am posting this in the wrong part of the website but i really need help with something. I bought a new pc game ( Medieval 2 Total War ) and when i 1st installed it, it worked fine. The day after i went to play it again and when i clicked on the icon the DVD Drive started and the disc was being read. The problem was though an Error message came up saying that i needed to insert the right disc when it clearly stated on the manual disc 1 was to kept in the drive. Can anyone tell me why it was working 1 minute then the next saying that my disc does not exist please? I tried to reinstall it and everything but the same message appears over and over. Any suggestions please?

    Hello David
It will be interesting to know which notebook model you have.
By the way: try to disable packet writing software DLA. Maybe it helps.
The procedure of changing a setup of DLA is as follows:
    1. Open Windows Explorer
    2. Right-click the icon of the CD/DVD drive and choose Properties
    3. Click the DLA tab
    4. To disable DLA option clear the Enable DLA on your drives checkbox
Please let me know if this works.

  • Satellite Pro P300 - PSPCDA-01L00D - DVD not found after Windows 7 upgrade

After performing a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium, then downloading the necessary drivers from the Toshiba support website there are issues with the DVD player in my laptop.
I downloaded the Toshiba DVD Player application, which auto detects which version you need. After allowing the application to run, I get the message "No Toshiba DVD installation could be found! You can only update an already installed version."
How do I get the DVD player to be recognised, so the application will install. Currently the DVD player will not play DVDs - which will be an issue for my daughter who is using the laptop.
Also, the Windows 7 driver page mentions updates will be available through Toshiba Service Station, but provides no link. A search of the Toshiba website fails to locate it, where do I get this utility from?

    Hello
I agree with Mike30. As you can see on Toshiba website, its just an update but no full version. Full version of DVD player is only preinstalled on your notebook and included in Toshiba recovery disk.
But in my opinion you dont need additional DVD player software. Its a little useless but thats my personal opinion
I prefer the allround tool VLC media player because it can play all known audio and video files. Its small and freeware player and I can recommend it.
Have a look on VLC media player page:

  • CD/DVD Not Reading All Files

I have a Presario SR5507F with VISTA. My CD/DVD drive won't read any executable files on SOME CDs. It does on others. I thought the drive might be bad, so I replaced it, but the new drive does the same thing. Example: I put a CD in the drive for a new printer installation, but it won't start and doesn't show any executables on the CD through exporer. I put a Quicken CD in the drive and it starts up as normally as expected. I've checked the CDs that won't read on another (identicle) computer, and they start as they should. It seems to play any movies I've tried. I'm at a loss. Please help, if you have any ideas.

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If the drive is not working, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Right click on the first channel and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel.  Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this, again not deleting drivers if asked. Then open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.
Reboot the PC and let Windows reinstall the devices.  Check the drive again.
If it still isn't working, run the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below again.
    Vista
Next, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.
    Hope this helps.
    Best wishes,
    DP-K

  • Data DVD Not Reading On PC

    Hi:
I'm preparing to send off pics I took and imported into iPhoto. I then exported them to a folder, and since there are more than will fit onto a CD, used Toast Titanium 7.0.1 to burn a data DVD with the Mac & PC format tab selected. The DVD will either not show up in one PC I tested on, or on the other it says the files are unreadable. Any suggestions TIA.

Did Toast compress them in order to fit them all on a single DVD? You might try using the Finder to burn the disk and use multiple disks to do the job. I've never had any problems with my burned data disks and PCs.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Why does my Encore DVD not play in Windows Media Player v.11

My DVD's play properly in players and from various other DVD Software but not Windows Media Player v.11.  Most people I give my DVD's to view them on business computers, that only have WMP on them.  Is there a way to build an Encore DVD that will allow them to play in WMP?

You can always build a Flash "DVD". Other than that you may be looking in the wrong place. Microsoft has neatly avoided any MPEG-2/DVD licensing and merely uses the respective libraries of otehr DVD software on your system, so when no such thing is installed, it never works.

  • Compaq Presario CQ62 DVD not working after Windows 7 automatic install of upgrades

The DVD in my Compaq CQ62 stopped working after Windows 7 automatically installed updates. The driver seems to be corrupted. When I open Device Manager, the DVD comes up as hp DVD RW AD-7701H SATA CdRom Device and the device status displays...A driver (service) for this device has been disabled.  An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32).. There are two drivers installed--cdrom.sys from Microsoft,  File Version 6.1.7600.16385(win7_rtm.090713-1255) and PxHlpa64.sys File Version 2.03.32a from Sonic Solutions. If anyone knows the link to download the new driver or how to resolve this problem please let me know.

We are not sure what might have caused this issue. You may try removing the affected filter drivers and check. This has helped few.
To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start , type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
    2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
    3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
    4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
    5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
    6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
    7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
Note After you remove the UpperFilters registry entry and the LowerFilters registry entry, you may lose functionality in certain programs such as CD recording programs. In this scenario, you must reinstall any affected programs.

  • Dvd not reading burned dvds consistently

I am having problems reading DVDs that I burn on my Mac Pro 5,1. I can burn a DVD, eject and then reinsert and it may not load. I can take it to another Mac and it will load without a problem. I've tried to do some research without much luck. Most posts online are for Macbook with slot drive. I work in a printshop and there is a lot of printing dust so I'm thinking maybe the lens is dirty, how do I clean it. If it's dirty, will it still burn properly? That doesn't seem to be a problem that I can tell.

Hello, I'd try one of these, many places have them...

okay, all I can give you is my experience (bear in mind that I'm not an expert, nor do I work for Apple in any ways). You can clean the lens by possibly getting a can of compressed air and using that, maybe trying one of those dvd cleaning discs with the brushes on them. You may have to shut down your Mac Pro 5,1 let it cool down a bit, remove the side panel, then take out and disconnect the dvd drive, take it out,  open it up and clean the lens with lens cleaning fluid (for eyeglasses, perhaps-this is just a suggestion, I've done it once and it hasn't done any harm) then put it back together,  put the drive back in the sled, reconnect it, slide the sled back in, put the side panel back and restart your mac pro. if you have an air compressor, maybe compressed air from a tank, with a blowing tool (the one with the button on the top) might work, if you were gentle, I suppose. Hopefully something fixes your problem, daliah, if not maybe try repairing permissions in disk utility, if nothing works, try posting here again, and you're still having problems reading dvd's, could be the media, could be the drive needs replacing (but who knows?)  replacing a dvd drive, should you need to, is very easy.  In a pinch, you can use a dvd drive scavenged from a PC, as long as it is ATAPI/IDE  and as long as it works
    well, good luck to you

  • Dvd not working with windows 8

MY DVD is not recognised when running Windows 8 on Imac.

    Hi @biokimyaci
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that you are looking for a driver for your CD/DVD or optical drive. There are no specific drivers for the optical drive they are generic Windows drivers that come as part of the operating system. Go to your Device Manager and under DVD/CD-Rom drives right click what you have there and select Uninstall. They restart your computer and Windows will automatically install the driver. What is the product number for your notebook?
