DVD not sharp

I just created a DVD slideshow with iDVD 6.04. Nothing is sharp - neither the images nor the text. I viewed the DVD on three different computers with three different types of screens and I got the same result with all of them.
Everything looks fine within the iDVD programme.
What is the problem?

I agree and i don't believe it has anything to do with the TV as some have explained. Here's my experience.
I have some photo's and videos i took with my digital camera which reside in iPhoto.
So I decided to to gather some of them together in iMovie HD, While working with
these photos' and movies i noticed that the Still pictures were not clear as they were
in iPhoto. So I shrugged it off until I decided to share the project and use iDVD to
share the project. After i burned one copy i noticed that the pictures were still not clear
as they were in iPhoto. In fact they are fuzzy. What did i do wrong? Why are
the Photo's clear as a bell in iPhoto but look so bad in both iMovie HD and iDVD?

  • After creating a DVD with music, the pictures all come out fuzzy and not sharp.  Why

After creating a DVD with music, the pictures all come out fuzzy and not sharp.  I have tried all the options, and nothing works, they all come out fuzzy.   I have wasted about a dozen DVD's

Have you tried enhancing and sharpening in Premiere Elements before burning to disk?
What steps are you doing exactly?

  • I burned my first iDVD andpicture quality is not good.  Originals are excellent.  My photos are shot in raw or jpeg, both are not sharp when I view my DVD.  I viewed it on my 1080 dpi tv and my new apple computer.

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico:  http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie  as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast,  for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 7 onwards from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

  • Tex not sharp in DVD Sp

Laetely I've been noticing the text I use (ie: buttons) is not sharp is there a fix for this? Was also wondering if the pre-built text in the pallete would be sharper than adding my own.

  • Image in drop zone not sharp

Using a DVD SP menu template, I have dropped images into button drop zones. The .jpg files when viewed in photoshop are much sharper than when they are seen in the DVD menu format, even though the images as button images are even smaller than when the image is viewed outside of DVD SP. The unsuarp image stays there when I burn a DVD and test on a television or TV screen too, so it's not a matter of how it looks in simulate.
Any ideas on why the drop zone images are not sharp / how to solve to problem?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Pamela
Have just had a go at this operation on a brand new project and I did not get any of the problems you mentioned both as buttons and drop zones, have you tried it out in a brand new project to see if you get the same results as before, also you could try saving your files as a TIFF from photoshop to see if that increases the quality of what you get from a jpeg.

  • Why are my titles not sharp?

After I made some ken burn effect to my pictures I exported it to high quality Quick time, for some reason the titles I added are not sharp and clear but blurred at the edges what could be the reason?
Also if I want to make a dvd video, what is the actual action I have to do, should I export it to iDVD to get a dvd quality?

Are you using QuickTime Player to play the high quality file you created? Is the file you created self-contained, or a reference file? Try clicking "Use high-quality video settings when available" in QuickTime Player's preferences.
Also, as for the DVD, I prefer to launch iDVD, create a new project, then drag the iMovie project icon (in the finder) to the iDVD project window (make sure you have quit iMovie first).

  • Captured footage not sharp

my fresh captured footage is already not sharp looking at it with quicktime, and I have done nothing to it!!
I have been talking with apple and all settings are ok, Got the latest software updates...and still have this problem. After 8 years of editing on an older MAC I sure was not ready for this, can anyone shed some light on this?

my quicktime does look better, but I still have inferior footage seemingly at every stage.
Let me explain. I actually have a few clips I imported from FCP, and a few clips I brought in directly from an older program (2mv files) WHen I look at a preview of the DVD, it is very visible that the "new" clips are far inferior.
I followed the course of Larry, who recommends to export using quicktime...but what I noticed when he showed how to do it, his clip renders in DVDstudio pro, where my new clips remain orange ( a dot) as opposed to green...so I am thinking something has got to be wrong here...
a note the capture quicktime file does seem of normal size for raw dv capture...
If I would not have a customer on my back, I would have time to sort it out...but the clock is ticking....AUCH!!! thanks for answering guys, it is MOST appreciated

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 installed?
Like all Premiere Elements projects, the setup of the project plays an important part in the outcome.
What are the properties of the source media that you placed on the Premiere Elements 13 Timeline?
What project preset did you (manually) or the project (automatically) set to match the properties of that source media?
How did you decide to export the Timeline content?
Export to file save to the computer hard drive? If so, please detail the settings....Publish+Share/Computer/ then what? What did you
set for Presets? Did you use the default settings for the preset or customize them under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset?
    or
Burn to Disc.....DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, AVCHD format on DVD disc, or Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc?
And, what specific Instance Movie theme did you use?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
    Thank you.

It's probable that the CD 'side' of the combo drive has failed.  That you cannot boot from the recovery CD is pretty much proof of the failure.

  • Import DVD (not copywritted)PLEASE HELP ASAP

I do a lot of volunteering for the Children's Miracle network. I recently received a 6 minute DVD that is not copy writed in anyway. Its on a DVD-R. I want to import that DVD and transfer it over to another iDVD project and add it to a small DVD I'm making.
Once again, there is no write protection, I have all the permission needed to do this, so its not violating any terms of use.
My question is obvious, how would I do this? I need to mass burn 40 of these DVD's ASAP to give away at a fundraiser.
    Thanks for your help!

    you don't need a Ripper ( verboten ) , but a converter..
and just copying the TS folders uses the wrong disk format (=dvd not playable on standalone DVDplayers...)
DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing...
for using the iLife apps, you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    VisualHub (23.32$)
    Drop2DV (free)
    Cinematize >60$
    Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
Toast 6/7/8 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter

  • Images are not sharp as before.

I have been using Aperture for some time.
But recently images are soft-not sharp. All.
Adjustments 1.5 sharpeness to 1. radius. Still not there.
The only way they get better is by adding edge sharpening.
I did not have to do this before.Problem started about the first of May.

    Hi Again Steve,
    Here is what I discovered-Control:
Tests: D-200 and D-70. JPEG Fine setting. Need to try w/RAW.
Softwares on iMac G5. Aperture & iPhoto.
    PC Photoshop Album Starter 3.2
    Results:
No significant difference between D-200 and D-70 regarding sharpness.Better resolution w/D-200.
    Color accuracy best with Aperture.
But regarding sharpness, which is my issue, this is what I found.
The PC print was the best which I do not beleive has edge sharpening,
    maybe it's built into Photoshop/Album 3.2
However I can match the sharpness of the PC print in Aperture only
    with edge sharpening.
As mentioned before I haven't had to use Edge Sharpening until now.
Is edge sharpening a destructive issue or is edge sharpening just an everyday
    use.
Or is there an issue with my iMac?

Video portion of Nightwish DVD not playing correctly on Quicktime.  It is not a smooth playback. A little jerky. Is there an easy slution to the problem?

I worded my question incorrectly. It isn't a DVD I'm having the problem with, it' s a Nightwish concert download form iTunes I am having the video portion of the video that plays not smoothy. Like it is moothing it short little segments, not a steady flow!

Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
