DVD Player has problem burning -R verbatum lightscribe disc

Has anyone else had this issue? Trying to burn an Imovie HD movie and my new Panosonic DVD player says its uncompatable. Is it the disc or the computers DVD writer?

Hi
There are more than one thing about this - But as You've done and used DVD+R before - first thought is
• Dust on the DVD-Burner Laser Lens - I use a DVD-Cleaning disk (with brushes - NO Liquid) now and then
Other thoughts
• Cheap DVD Brands - Usually do not work as Memorex, NoName etc.
- I only use Verbatim
• DVD type - DVD+R is a more modern format and older DVD-players can not playback these
- I only use DVD-R (Never ever DVD+/-RW)
• Burn speed matters - full speed and many BURN ERRORS
- I always set this down to x2 or x4 - Plays on many more DVD-players
• Save as a DiskImage
- I always do - to see that all works as I like it before burning - then I use Disk Util tool or Toast™ to Burn
( This has ONE Major Advantage ! it splitts the DVD process into two parts and if anything goes wrong one can pin the problem to one of the parts )
• Free Space on Start-Up (Mac OS) Hard Disk
- for SL-DVDs I secure a minimum of 25GB free space - for DL-DVDs 50GB and if HD-Material is used about 4 - 5 times more to let iDVD and Mac OS run OK during Process.

  • DVD Player has problem catching up with DVD burned from DVD SP

I have a DVD with about 20 small videos and when I watch them either from the menu that plays the chosen video or from the Play All list I created with a story, it was often starting the videos already into the video by a second or sometimes a few frames. It did NOT do this in simulator or on the computer DVD player, but it did it on a few of the external DVD players I had hooked up to TVs. I played it on 4 DVD players and it had this problem on a handful of the videos on just two of the DVD players. They were always the same videos too.
So, I inserted a 15 second slug of video that I exported from FCP to give the DVD players time to process before the video actually started playing. The problem with this is that it moved the video track fine, but it moved the audio just slightly off from the video. The maddening thing is that it moves the video in such a way that it is off by part of a frame. How the heck does that happen????? And it won't let me move it to the nearest actual frame.
So, I need help. How do I fix it to where the audio still lines up to the video or how can I avoid the first problem so that I don't need to insert a slug?
I have to submit this DVD Monday morning to discmakers - help please!!!!

I suggest that you create 15-second silent audio slug that you can use to move the audio the same amount you have moved the video.

  • DVD Player has started playing PAL DVD's on external PAL display very badly

I have my Early 2006 iMac connected to an external HDTV (Mini-DVI->HDMI)
Using display options I can switch the external display easily between NTSC and PAL refresh rates.
It used to be that apple's DVD player could play a PAL dvd just fine on the display but now the frame rate drifts in and out of sync as though it no longer understands that the TV is set to 50hz.
Although I used to use DVD player all the time I haven't done so for quite some months so I don't know when this started happening although I have a feeling that it was with a recent OS X update.
I say this because a few months ago all of a sudden the same thing happened with Elgato's EyeTV, but they issued a patch sometime later and it fixed the v-sync issue for their app.
I'm also wondering if it may be a de-interlacing issue rather than a v-sync issue but I'm not sure, I've tried various DVD's.
I have tried deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DVDPlayer but this hasn't helped.
If it's relevant, my iMac has an ATI Radeon X1600
Any ideas why DVD player has started having trouble with 50hz displays and how I might fix it?
Failing that, is there a good (hopefully free) dvd player alternative which is better at handing external displays of varying display modes?
p.s this was the most appropriate forum I could find.

I suggest that you create 15-second silent audio slug that you can use to move the audio the same amount you have moved the video.

  • What can I do about this message -"Toshiba DVD Player has stopped working"

    Hi
My DVD Player used to work fine . . . and then I installed iTunes.
It then worked for a while, but only by using 'Run as Administrator'.
After a couple of weeks I started to get the message "Toshiba DVD Player has stopped working".
I have uninstalled iTunes - and uninstalled and then re-installed the DVD Player - but it still will not work!!
    Any solutions please?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Ms Q_reeus

My solution to this is to remove Toshiba DVD player and install VLC player. You can get it for free.
It can read all video formats and you don't need some additional codecs.

  • DVD Player Zoom Problem...

DVD Player has the ability to remember zoom settings on previously inserted DVD's. However I have found that the only way that this works is if you leave zoom checked and running all the time. This is fine. However, what I have also figured out is that if for example you insert a disk that needs to be zoomed and then follow that with one that doesn't ( and has never been inserted before), the default behavior is zoomed.
Why I am posting is to find out if anyone else has noticed this and been bothered by it. If so please send feedback to apple to get this added to the next DVD Player update.
The expected behavior for me would be defaulting to unzoomed, or having a choice as to where to set the default by possibly setting it without a dvd inserted.
    Thanks,
    Larry

This has already been fixed for the next version by resetting back to the normalized state when the disc is ejected.

    Hi:
See if performing each of Resolution Steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 from the link below restores functionality to the DVD drive.
    One of them normally will.

  • Account Specific Apple DVD Player Audio Problem

I accidently went reverse with the wrong "sticky key" locked during a dvd. (I thought I'd pressed "command-arrow")
Since this I have no audio on any  video when using the  DVD Player software IN THIS ACCOUT ONLY.
After restarting both the DVD player and the Mac with no success, I switched user accounts, and continued watching said dvd with no problem. Switching back, still no sound.
Clearly I created an error in my user account prefs. In the past, an easy fix.  But where do I find the user library/prefs in Mountain Lion?

    Hi Chris,
    Found the "easy" approach..
    A) Hold Option while selecting the Go Menu while in the Finder. The User Library shows as "Library".
    B) Keep holding Option as you select Library.  (If using Sticky Keys, this means lock the Option Key at point A.)
TADA! The user library is opened before one's eyes.
From there, I switched user accounts via fast user switching, repeated the above.  Next I copied the DVD Player folder in Application Support to an external drive, switched back, and replaced the corrupted user folder by copying the one on the external drive.
Sound has returned to the DVD Player!  It was likely one file, but none popped out at me, so I just replaced the entire file.

  • Re: Portege R600-10Q- Toshiba DVD Player has stop working

    Hello,
    Please help me,
I can't use the Toshiba DVD Player, every time I open it, appears the windows windows saying that the app has stop working...
When I see the error report, appears 'app crash'....
I've already gone to the Toshiba site to make the bios upgrade and have made the download of a new version Toshiba DVD player and the problem remains the same...
    What can I do?

Try removing the CD/DVD Filters from the Registry.
When CD/DVD related software is installed (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), they install filters into the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.
    1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
    2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
    4) Reboot.
If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).
This utility can remove the filters for you:

Failing that, I would backup the data and run recovery.

  • DVD Player Has Disappeared

    Hi, all!
I was burning a DVD in iDVD last night, and it stuck at "2 Minutes Remaining."
It was still at that point this morning, so I force quit iDVD, and the disc drive refused to eject the DVD R that was in there. I clicked on the DVD Player icon to open it, and I got the response "Initialization Error; No valid DVD Drive found [-70012]"
So, I opened iTunes, tried to eject the disc that way, no luck. Just for the heck of it, I clicked "Burn Disc," and got "No Valid Disc Driver Found."
I then downloaded the 10.3.9 Update, but that didn't work...I guess if there's no drive, there's nothing to update.
It was working fine last night running X-Plane 8.40 beta 3, and I did successfully burn a DVD from Quicktime. The problem began when I attempted to burn a second disc.
I guess my question is, how can the entire disc driver disappear overnight, and how do I get it back?
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Dean

OK, crisis averted. I restarted twice with no effect, but everything returned to normal after I did a shutdown and hard reboot.
    Thanks for your attention.

  • Why won't the DVD Player recognise the burned HD DVD?

Can't find the answer and don't know where to start looking. (My Software Update is up to date.)
I spent a (24/7) week compressing, building and burning 60 minutes (3.8GB) of HD-DVD on a DVD-R. The latter plays perfectly in my Mac, (DVD Player) but when I load it into the (Toshiba HD-E1KE) DVD player, the 'green' window starts off by saying: HD DVD, but then switches to saying: M55G and the on-screen caption says: NOT IN DVD FORMAT.
I have checked and rechecked the DVD-Studio-Pro Disc Properties were set to Red Laser, Single Layer, One Side and 12 cm and (for my case) PAL and HD DVD.
What am I missing? As you will appreciate, having sweated blood to get this far and for it to fall at the final hurdle is driving me NUTS!
    Mac Pro 2 x 3 GHz Dual Core, 3GB 667 MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Well, you all asked how I got on and here it is...
I am now here in California where I collared a "Genius" in an Apple Store who also knows this stuff. (I love those guys!)
The bottom line (according to him and he SEEMS to know exacty what he is talking about) Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Compressor and Macs are INCAPABLE of producing an HD DVD, notwithstanding the very strong suggestion to the contrary by Apple in their product information.
He says that no Apple currently contains the required appraratus to even burn a DVD in HD, assuming you got that far in the editing, formatting and compression.
I am extremely displeased, as you can imagine, as I have spent a great deal of money and time on a project which (according to the Genius) never had a chance of working - on ANY Mac equipment. All you can do in FCP and DVDSP is produce and burn an SD DVD, so what's the blooming point of all that "HD" suffixing unless to hoodwink people into handing over large sums of money to Apple?
I suppose there is a slim chance I might find an outfit somewhere in London who will take it all as a data file and burn it onto an HD DVD for me, although I do not as yet know where to look.
Even if I CAN, it will cost me more money I never anticipated when I started all this and means I cannot produce this (or other such) work independently.
Forgive me for saying so, but I do find the whole thing close to dishonest, as such a major shortcoming ought to have been made crystal clear on the BOX, let alone within the verbose and often repetitive manuals weighty enough to half fill the Library of Congress!
    Is it me?
I have to say that it appears there is nobody anywhere who has managed to burn an HD DVD using this gear, so it looks like the end of the road for the stated reason.
If anybody knows of a way of getting it burned professionally somewhere in England without costing silly money, it might save my project.
    End of rant!!!

  • DVD player has two control windows, can't press any buttons.

The internal disk drive on my Late 2009 Mac mini has been non-functional for longer than I've had it. However, I've never really needed it until recently. But when I tried using my new external drive (which runs perfectly and is most certainly not the source of the problem) I encounter one of the strangest glitches I've ever had using Macs!
The DVD player uses the old (brushed metal, 10.6-style) control panel in the bottom-right corner... Until I turn on full-screen. Then the GUI changes to a glazed black appearance (10.7-style) and all of the controls are unresponsive. The features can be triggered by the hotkeys (space bar to play/pause, etc.) but none of the actual buttons can be clicked on. The interface still fades in and out with mouse movement though.
But it starts getting really strange when I exit fullscreen again. Now the brushed metal interface has odd white corners as if the alpha channel is being ignored! https://dl.dropbox.com/u/14403620/brokeninterface.tiff And what's more, though I was unable to reproduce this after a few attempts, once it actually brought the normal control window into fullscreen! There were then two contol interfaces, neither of them could be pressed (though the normal one works outside of fullscreen) and the normal one could still be dragged around the screen yet wouldn't fade away when idle!
Now please note that I am running OS-X 10.7.5 upgraded from 10.6 in the past and the DVD player may not have been original to this computer. I am also using SIMBL and Maximizer and have both Quicktime 7 and Quicktime X installed.
There are thus many things which could be causing the issue, but I have no idea what actually is.
Any insight would be appreciated. I can provide more information if nessesary.

    Stan -
Thanks again for the simple but valuable tip.
I'm just going to repeat the relevant sections from my previous post with the screenshots this time:
Below you'll see a snip of how my current folder structure appears. It's identical to yours, except there are no button files in the General Folder. Since you were kind enough to include a file name, I did a search on that specific one and it's nowhere to be found on my hard drive. Hmmm....
I've seen others remark on how... "challenging".... Adobe's instructions can be sometime. I'll admit to having the same feeling when I was trying to download and install all the content files and the 7-zip stuff. Is the answer somehow that I screwed up that?  Note the 7-zip folder right above the Adobe folder. Here's a screen shot of that expanded folder contents:
Does that look like you think it should? Have I not installed or extracted something correctly?
Finally, the only other thing I can think of to give you as much info as you might need is to include a screenshot of where the "Functional Content" stuff got saved. Adobe's instructions about this (if I recall correctly) were that it did NOT have to be installed anywhere specific, but you then had to go into Encore (& Premiere) and through preferences point to this stuff, which I believe I did. But I don't see any button type files in these anyway.
    Other thoughts or advice?
    Thanks!

  • Apple 10.7.4 DVD player has dropped clip-maker feature?

Recently my school installed MAC OS 10.7.4. Now when I go to the DVD player for classroom use, the player's clip-maker feature is gone. Apple Help gives no answer. Am I right that thisfeature has disappeared? Thank you. Don

Well, not "solved," but I was mis-remembering part of the problem: 10.4 did not correct the inability of DVD Player to recognize external drives -- I forgot that there was a software patch (a terminal script, I think) which allowed them to be recognized. Sorry for the trouble.

  • HT2499 My DVD player has stopped taking discs and the DVD player no longer recognizes the drive.  I bought an external player.  How do I switch the DVD player from the internal drive to the external?

My DVD Player in my MabBook Pro, System 10.8.2, has stopped accepting discs and is no longer recognized by the DVD driver.  I purchased an external Blue-ray Disc player/writer.  It is a Samsung.  I downloaded their driver so the drive shows up on my desktop.  But how do I switch the DVD player over from my internal to my external drive?

In addition to RRFS's advice, please post in the correct forum. This forum is for iMac's, you mentioned you have a MacBook Pro. They're similar but still pretty different hardware.
