  • Burned DVD video looks like jerky-  This did not happen before!

    Hi all,
I have used I DVD before with great results! I have done several DVD's and each of them have looked great and smooth. I am using an HD camera and sharing to Itunes in the high resolution setting. The movie when played on my apple tv looks smooth and great. When the same video is burned to the DVD it looks like some of the frames are missing. While it looks clear it looks jerky like something you would see on the internet or an old home movie. Any help would be appreciated as I have tried to change the setting but cant seem to find what is wrong. I am not sure if some upgrade has hurt performance, is anyone experiencing this same issue. The slide show looks great and plays smooth with music. I created the slide show in Imovie08 and copied it into the DVD that way because when I tried to use the slide show option in IDVD the music kept skipping and cutting out.
    Thanks for your help!
    GE

I will try to answer both request in one post. First the video did not really look like the tracking was off generally this makes lines in the video. I was more like an old time movie only not that bad where it may have been missing some frames but the picture looked good just choppy.
What I did first was share to the media browser a "large movie" from Imovie08 then import into IDVD- that did not work choppy- about 1.05gb for 38 min of video
Next I shared to Itunes from Imovie08 same as above result the same-(guess it would be since the same movie format just in a different place. Since it worked before guessed I would give it a try. I tried this option several times on several settings. While the movie played fine in Itunes it did not when burned and played on the DVD.
Someone had a post about quicktime upgrade being a problem so I thought. . .and then
Next I exported a large .MOV file it came to 8.07GB for the same 38 min of video above. This I put into the movie file then pulled it into IDVD and burned the video and IT WORKED!!! no choppy video!
Now should I have to do this every time NO. This should be fixed as it must be with the way IDVD is reading these files.
PLEASE let me know if you have any thoughts on the fix. I did remove peridan too and that did not work. I would like not to have to create such large files to make this work.
    Thanks

  • DVD Player pixelates like crazy

On many DVDs, DVD player pixelates terribly. Affects both stand-alone and in front row. The DVD will play just fine with DVD player on my iMac. Also I can play the same DVD without pixelation using VLC. What gives? It's kinda disheartening to show off my shiny new MacBook Pro and everyone wants to know why DVDs look so bad.

  • Progressive dvcprohd footage to dvd export  - looks like youtube !

this is gonna need a compressor / dvd studio pro guru to
I have been searching the internet / forums etc etc for hours - have tried heaps of suggested settings but just cant get a good result - I am on a brand new mac pro quad core - the latest Final cut studio with all latest software updates.
my fcp timelines look beautiful - cinema desktop preview looks great.
sending to compressor from my dvcprohd ntsc progressive fc timeline - using settings under the dvd tab - mpg 2 and ac3.
    but after running through compressor:
i am getting hideous stair stepping. Any small line on the screen that crosses the horizontal at an angle (ie not flat) looks awful.
The video looks like youtube. washed out - no macro blocking - but stair stepping / herringbone is off the scale-after reviewing the dvd and raw mpg 2 files both on the monitor and on a tv.
As far as i can tell -There shouldnt be any interlacing issues because interlacing shouldnt happen - i shoot and work progressive all the way through my work flow - and all my sequences are set up as progressive at the correct frame rates.
    is this a downscaling issue?
the format is set up correctly with frame rate and progressive settings matching my source
after trying the standard best quality settings and getting youtube results:
i tried: cbr 7 mbs , (its only 42 mins of video) - from my limited research on the forums it appears that cbr at a high bit rate works better for top quality dvds than vbr 2 pass - which seems counter intuitive. please correct me if i am wrong. 2 pass vbr at similar bit rates gives me no noticeable improvement in quality.
frame controls on -resize filter better
    output fields same as source
deinterlace fast (i really dont know why this option is there as i am working prog all the way through
but i suspect compressor may be trying to deinterlace my prog footage?)
adaptive details on and off have bene tried
    100% duration relative to source.
I have been trying for 3 days to get a good result and am literally pulling my hair out. I have 8 test dvds - nothing looks right.
i suspect a bug in compressor - i have read a few posts about similar items - have tried a few suggested settings - and they havent worked. Am considering looking at another product (bit vice / sorenson) if i cant get this resolved - but maybe i am missing something simple.
i am even reading about people getting better results through IDVD... which would indicate a compressor bug- perhaps..

Try exporting from FCP timeline to selfcontained QuickTime file first, and processing this file with Compressor. Report if there is any difference, please. I am asking because I just found similar bug considering HDV 1080i50 format.

  • My DVD's Look Like VCD's

Hello all. I am in real trouble. After spending a week reading books, tutorials and a massive amount of forums that seem to answer this common question yet has failed to solve my dilema, I am at a loss and I don't know what else to do.
I have two issues the first is horizontal lines after export out for FPC and the second is why am I getting pixelation during transitions after I build a DVD. Everything in the FCP timeline looks great as I veiw from ext monitor and even in QT after export apart from the horizontal lines the quality is great. After the build I view on set top DVD..no lines but pixelation during the transitions
    This is my work flow
Open FCP 5 > easy setup DV PAL anamaphoric > Capture from Sony Z1P down covert to DV > Edit using easy setup sequence default setting
Render all when finished. My project is 32.50mins in length and I burn on Sony DVD-R 4.7
These are the export settings I have used to try and solve the problem
    QT Movie current settings >
    not self contained
    self contained
    Self contained recompress
    Using QT convert >
    uncompressed 8bit
    animation
    AVI
Importing all files into compressor 2 with following setting
One Pass 5, 6 ,7 Motion est better and best
VBR 1 Pass Bit rate 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, 6-8 Motion est better and best
VBR 2 Pass Bit rate 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, 6-8 Motion est better and best
I've also tried these settings with frame control option and changing
    GOP to IP/6
I've tried all these files with rendered and unrendered timeline
Imported all files into DVDSP 4 with following setting
    One Pass 5, 6, 7, 7.7
VBR 1 Pass Bit rate 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, 6-8 Motion est better and best
VBR 2 Pass Bit rate 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, 6-8 Motion est better and best
I've tried all these files with rendered and unrendered timeline
As you can see I've tried everything and followed instuctions from many forums and I still am at a loss. If there is anyone out there that sees an error in my workflow of if any one has had the same problem please let me know. I refused to believe that this is the best FCP can do I must be doing someting wrong and I dont know what it is.
    Please help

Hi all . I'll see if I can post a frame so you can see what I'm talking about. I don't think it's an interlace problem. The lines don't appear when I view on a set top DVD player or in QT only after export from FCP viewing in QT. I dont think this is a major issue but I was wondering if this is whats causing pixelated transitions. I thought I'd metion it just in case
I haven't tried compresson markers yet so I'll give that a go.
Tried BitVice, MegaPEG.x and MainConcept but there wasn't much difference.
Brian is correct I exported about 10 sec of problem video in every format that I read in other forums from people who had similar problems and tried different encoding settings and wasted about 10 DVDs to see the results.
I am going to try lower bit rates and post the results tomorrow. it's about 00:30 here and I'm tired
Captain Mench I'll give what you suggested a go but I think I've tried it.
Cheers all and thanks for the help.

  • DVD MOVIE LOOKS LIKE CRAP ON HD TV

    Help!
My DVD movies look horrible on my 46" Samsung 1080p LCD television. I have made DVD movies featuring still images directly in iDVD as well as from iPhoto to iMovie to iDVD.
    Many thanks.
    Kristina

Thanks for replying! I am making these movies with
high resolution still images. These same images look
amazing on the screen shown through iPhoto. Can I not
maintain this quality in a DVD movie with the same
    images?????
    No.
NTSC DVD images are 640x480 pixels AT BEST - this is only 0.3 megapixels. There is absolutely no way such DVD images will match the quality of multi-megapixel digital cameras.
See Preparing images for DVD slideshows at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/17.html for more information about using still images in iDVD slideshows.

  • Apple TV speeds up video playback on files ripped from DVDs - it looks like it's being fastforwarded slightly.

I just set up my Apple TV 2, only to find playback issues from the start.
Whenever I try to play videos from iTunes, the playback is noticeably faster than it should be. It's almost as if the video is slightly sped up, and the audio is in sync with this. The aspect ratio is also very different on some of these videos (and this doesn't correct on my TV as it does on my laptop screen) - by which I mean that the picture appears stretched on some, but not others. These are files I have ripped from my DVD collection.
What can I do about this?

    Ok, now I understand.
I haven't directly used those digital copies, per your original post it sounds is as it plays fine in iTunes but just not on apple tv
Here is the compatibility list for ATV2, in iTunes right click and get info for one of the files to see if it falls within
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • 16:9 standard DVD looks good w/ Blu Ray, zoomed in on DVD player

Final Cut Pro7. 16:9 stills slideshow, Compressor 90 min best DVD, DVD Studio 1280 x 720p 16:9 letterbox
Any ideas why? It looks about 25% larger when played on a standard DVD player, looks good on Blu Ray.

DVDs are limited to SD video only. You cannot have HD video on a SD DVD created by DVD SP.
And the HD DVDs that DVD SP creates will not play on Blu-Ray players.

  • Satellite P-15's DVD player frequently stalls while playing.

    Sorry for posting another question!!
The P-15's drive has a problem when I play DVDs. While the computer plays the DVD, the screen will freeze for a second and the drive will stop reading the DVD. After this occurs, the drive begins reading the DVD again, and the movie continues. As you can guess, this is really annoying. Can anyone help me with this problem? The DVD/CD drive is MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ811.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
did you also tried a "real" DVD player software like WinDVD or PowerDVD?
Windows Media Player is a good player, but it has problems with DVDs.
As you bought your Notebook, also a DVD player software should be delivered (in Europe). Look at your Tools&Utilities CD or additional CDs which come with your notebook.

  • How does a DVD Player recognize/play a DVD?

I'm wondering, does a DVD Player 'look' for the Video_TS and Audio_TS folders?
I'm wondering because I found a backup of an old-old DVD I made a few years back. I just have the Audio/Video_TS folders. If I burned these to a DVD in the root folder, would my DVD player be able to read it? Or do programs like DVD Studio Pro burn some sort of 'invisible' data to the DVD-R which a DVD Player 'looks' for?

Mac OS X's basic drag-and-drop burning (from the Finder) creates a hybrid HFS+/ISO-9660 disc. You can try creating a DVD Master image file with Disk Utility and then putting the files on that disk image. Disk Utility should create this type of image file as a UDF disc. I'm not in front of a Mac right now to give more detailed instructions, or to even tell if this will work.
An easier solution might be to download DiscBlaze which will allow you 5 burns before you have to register. It can burn a UDF disc.

  • Satellite C855D Toshiba DVD player display suddenly stopped displaying

Please help as its now beyond me. The DVD player has suddenly just stopped. I can hear it and control it but cannot see it. I have checked the diplay button but its all ok.
    Help

    Im sorry IJK.
I thought it could be possible to download the Toshiba DVD player but it seems that this software is licensed and it cannot be downloaded from Toshiba driver page.
Its part of the Toshiba image. So you can get this tool only reinstalling the Toshiba image using the HDD recovery or the created Toshiba Recovery medium.
However, recovering the system would mean that the whole system would be installed again congaing previous HDD format. So in such case the data backup should be created before starting such procedure.
Another option: you could try to set the system back to early time point before the Toshiba DVD tool has crashed.
Last but not least you could try to install other freeware DVD player software like VLC player. It one of the best player software which is available on the market

  • Burning cd of photo to work on dvd player

    Hello!
I want to burn pictures that I have on my macbook onto a blank cd so that I can play then on my dvd player. I am able to get the pictures on the cd, but not able to make it play on the dvd player. I do not have a dvd burner.
    Thanks!

Was kinda hoping you'd clarify the photo's onto disk thing a little more.
I dragged and dropped a couple of hundred .jpg photo's straight onto a blank DVD disk (root of DVD) using the Finder's CD burn utility (iPhoto 11 also states using this method), however when I pop the DVD disc into a JPG photo playing DVD player, it does not play and states that it doesn't recognize format/disc.
Do the JPG's/JPEG's need to be placed into a DCIM folder first from the mac when burning to a DVD disc in order for a standard JPEG playing DVD player looking for this type of named folder first? If so would I have to further add yet another folder within the DCIM folder as well?
    Cheers

  • Pavilion dv7-2273cl dvd player

Why does the dvd player sound like it is grinding coffee when i put a dvd in the player.  It makes alot of noise and will not read the disc, it is a disc from a purchased dvd (not BluRay)
    Thanks

    Hi,
Go to: Control Panel -> Devices Manager
Click with right button of Your mouse on each yellow sign with exclamation mark ( ) and choose properties. Then go to ' Details ' tab and paste here Hardware Ids . This way we will know what it is.

  • DVD player rewind?

I can't simply fast forward or rewind with the DVD Player. Are those functions not available? If that is the case is there another DVD player that anyone has used before and can recommend? I'm a PC switcher. The DVD player seems like a crappy product as far as I can see. When compared to the products I've used on a PC anyway. Am I wrong?

Try a player called VLC. It's a free download from:
    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
BTW to fast forward during play in DVD Player, hold down the fast forward button (with the mourse cursor) rather than just clicking on it.

  • Isymphony 19" LCD tv with built in dvd player

I just setup my Isymphony tv with built in dvd player. I put in multiple dvd's in the player and all came back saying they were bad discs even though they were fine. Any advice on the issue?

THe dvd player sounds like it is malfunctioning...
The problems with combo untis like yours is once the disc player dies, it really isn't cost effective to repair them.
