DVD Player - lost it

G4 has SuperDrive CD/DVD player/recorder. Was able to watch a DVD movie when I first got laptop (about a month ago), but don't remember what application I used. Now, system can't seem to find the player.
1) When I search Finder help, I get a link for the DVD Player, and when I click on it, I get message: "Item cannot be opened. It may disabled or not installed."
2) Tried installing DVD Player 4.6, but system says I cannot install because newer version of application already exists.
3) In System Prefs for inserting a video DVD, "DVD Player" is NOT one of the dropdown choices for default action.
4) DVD Player is not shown when selection "applications" in Finder
5) Have installed Windows Media Player, and Flip4Mac since purchasing - could one of these programs disabled apple's DVD Player?
What should I do?

Tried moving out of /Library/Receipts. I even renamed. Didn't work. Still couldn't install downloaded DVD Player. Installer still believes that a more recent version is installed. Guess I will have to wait for a couple weeks until I get home to where my system disks are. Thanks, anyway!
If anyone has any other ideas, pls let me know.

DVD Player - lost

Hi there,
I don't know how this happened, but my DVD Player icon now shows as a grey question mark on the dashboard. I have search for the App and it is not to be found on my system (MBP).
How do I go about re-installing this application which I assume is part of Leopard. Is there an easy way to just re-install this from the disk that came with my laptop? If so, how do I go about remedying the situation.
By the way, I noticed it was showing the question mark before I upgraded to 10.5.2 from 10.5.1. It just caught my eye again.

Well, I still have this problem even though I ended up calling Apple Tech Support who directed me to an Apple Support website and where I downloaded DVD Player 4.6 from. Problem is, 4.6 is older than what is on Leopard. It also told me that it found a newer version of DVD Player on my hard drive. I have a "DVD Player" application that shows up when searched for; however, there is an error with it. When you double-click on it you see the Application icon and to the right of the icon are "??". Below this is "?? - 10960". Therefore, is my newer DVD Player still in fact resident on the Macintosh HD? How do I re-install it. The Apple person had me check the installation options from my original disks but we couldn't find a way to simply re-install the DVD Player. If I re-installed iDVD 2008 would that be sufficient, in other words is DVD Player buried within that application?
Looking forward to more assistance. I didn't really want to have to re-install Leopard on this almost-1-month-old computer. However, options much appreciated.

DVD Player app. lost

This turned out to be a disaster. I didn't really understand how to selectively re-install just the DVD player App., as I indicated. I put my Leopard install disk in, and was unable to figure out how to use the Pacifist program. I followed the instructions and they forced me to choose the other hard drive (not the one where all my other applications are loaded). So now I have an OS on both the Mac HD and the volume 1 HD. And I find that Final cut Pro won't open, and Studio Pro won't accept my serial number so that won't open. Except the DVD player. I did the software updates, but that didn't work. So now what, can I uninstall from the MAC HD? Do I have to re-install FCP & Studio Pro to make them work?
More lost than before, Fork

I made a slide show with music and random transitions in iPhoto. I can't burn it to a DVD. The burn button in iPhoto is not highlighted, and when I exported the slide show to iDVD, it lost the random transistions, and the disk won't play in DVD player.

Two problems: 1. My iphoto slide show loses its random transitions when I export it to iDVD.
2. When I then burn it to a disk, the disk will not play in a DVD player, but only on my MAC.
Any ideas?

The random transitions can only be random when played in iPhoto.
If you are in the slideshow mode and use the Share ➙ iDVD menu option a quictime movie will be created of the slideshow with the first random set of transitions and imported into iDVD. The transitions, however, will be fixed permanently and will not be changed again.
There is no way to get any sort of random behavior in an iDVD. When it's burned to disk it's locked permanently.

I must have accidently deleted my 'DVD Player' application,
I've looked in my 'Applications' folder & done a spotlight search & it doesn't show up, except a folder called 'DVD Player' in the 'Library'.
How do i get it back?

I just the latest apple tv. when i connected using hdmi1, i lost sound on my tv channels (fios) and can't access a separate dvd player

i just purchased an apple tv 3d generation. When i connect it to my tv on hdmi1, and lose the sound to my fios tv channels and connectivity with a separate dvd player. TV is on TV, dvd on video, and hdmi1 for apple tv. when i disconnect the apple tv, the sound comes back to my tv and i am able to access the dvd player. can anyone help?

Sounds like a tv issues never heard about any hdmi device which when not being the active input source which would effect other hdmi inputs
Suspect it would even put your tv out of supporting hdmi correctly

Lost My DVD Player

My girlfriend dragged my DVD Player on my desktop. I thought It was just a shortcut and deleted it, so my DVD Player is gone. I've tried finding a download, but I can't. Is there a simple way to get my DVD Player back or should I get a hold of Apple?

You can extract a copy of the DVD player from your Installer DVD. To do so, you'll need to use 3rd party shareware Pacifist. This application is usable for unregistered version, however, there is a 20 second delay on the start-up.

Why does dvd on my new iMac keep giving me the notice, DVD player closed unexpectedly whenever I try to open it or load a dvd?

I have had my imac a couple of days and when i went to play a dvd for my OU course I could hear the disc spinning then it stopped and told me "DVD player stopped unexpectedly"

Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
It is the 5 second timing that initiates the reset.
Sometimes it helps, also make sure the DVD is impeccably clean.

Problem to playback 16/9on DVD Player...original export HD to SD 16/9

I need some serious help on that one ( need to complete the project for this Friday..)
Basically I created an edit on FCP on a timeline with the following settings:
-aspect ratio:HDTV 720p (16/9). As it has been shot with a JVC camera(GY-HD111)on a HDV 720p format..
-Pixel aspect ratio: Square ( no anamorphic)
-field dominance:none
-Quictime video settings, compressor:HDV 720p25
then I exported to sequence trough compressor for DVD Studio Pro, under the following settings:
-DVD best quality 90 mn (the duration of the sequence is 10mn)
(making sure the Mpeg 2 format includes a PAL-25 fames-16/9 settings..)
Then, after creating my menu on DVD Studio Pro, again making sure that the following settings were selected:
-Display mode of the menu:16/9 Pan Scan and Letter-box
-Display mode of the attached tracks:16/9 pan scan and letterbox..
I then did a build/format to burn the DVD.
Now the problem that is happening is that for some reason (and i tried on different DVD Players and screens)The DVD players Play the DVD on a 16/9 screen as a 4/3..so it means that when I set upthe screen on a 16/9 format the picture become stretched and on a 4/3 it appears normal but of course the borders are cropped...Now when I build and burn the same project with 16/9 letterbox(only)settings it works fine but the idea is to be able to watch the video as a 16/9 full screen..I really don't understand what is happening..tried many options still not working..Would anyone be abble to help me with this ? (in the settings of build/format there is a tick for lossless linking in destination...would it be related?) I am quite lost on the all thing especially I need to burn the DVD for tomorrow..Please help me!!

First off, yes, 16:9 Letterbox is the Display Ratio you want to use in DVDSP. Unless you actually do want the edges cropped off (and common request for menus, at least). In that case, select 16:9 Pan-Scan. The 16:9 Pan-Scan & Letterbox choice in DVDSP is not what you'd normally want to use, because it depends on the TV Shape setting on your DVD Player.
Speaking of the TV Shape setting (sometimes labeled as Aspect Ratio) on your DVD Player, make sure the players that are connected to your 16:9 sets are correctly set to 16:9 or Widescreen (manufacturers use different naming conventions).

Dvd player does not read burnt dvds

i burnt 2 dvds on my macbook pro (leopard). they both play fine on my macbook pro and my toshiba dvd player.
they will not play on my macbook and powermac g4 (tiger).
is this a problem with the dvd player in tiger? if so, any way to update it or download a newer version?

oh sorry i forgot to add that i managed to play some of the contents directly from my storage disk:
1. open dvd player
2. select play media
3. instead of clicking on the FOLDER, like i wld do if i access the video from my macbook pro (leopard), i have to open the folder and click on VIDEO TS inside the folder
it will play this way. but i wonder if some features are lost? and why can't i play directly fr the burnt dvd like i can do on my macbook pro and toshiba dvd player?

Dvd Player: When i insert a movie dvd from the store my .......

computer begins to play the movie and after about a min or so the movie screen minimizes to the desktop and then either shuts down the computer or puts it to sleep. Most times the computer shuts off once in a while it will just go to sleep. I have tried 2 diff dvd's and am sure they work on my dvd player in the living room. This issue is new to me so i am a bit lost.

I had the working DVD player software for my Powerbook G4 installed, and somehow it got deleted, and now will not play any DVD's. I don't have any of the starter discs that came with the computer and dont know anyone who has another mac like mine, that uses OS X 10.3.9
Where can I download the application that I lost that will work?

Why is the LaCie copy silent on DVD player?

After several frustrating hours (LaCie's readme only tells me how to connect to LaCie's readme--it should say, "if you are reading this don't bother to read this.") I finally burned a DVD. It was made from a videocam film that we had copied to a DVD. The sound was very bad, but as it was a souvenir film we want the sound.
On my computer, all works well but when played it on the television the video plays but it is silent. Did I miss something in the Burning Process?
I was so proud, but now I'm lost again.

external DVD video player? or are you using your iMac
to send the video to the TV?

I'm thinking about buying the Xbox HD DVD Player. I want to connect this with my Macbook and than over my DVI Hdmi cable to my projector. Is the Macbook graphics card a HDCP card?
Do you think the qualti will be good or it get lost in the connection?

As to (2) I think Jerry answsered in FCP and as to (3) you can burn them with menus but nothing seems to work with them yet really Bottom line is DVD SP 4 is not really HD ready for general/reliable use (i.e., clients unless they play back on a Mac)

DVD Player hangs when Fast Forward (F9) or Rewind (F7) buttons pushed

When I push and hold down the fast forward and rewind keys in DVD Player, the video does indeed fast forward and reverse. But when I push and immediately release, the picture freezes, and the computer hangs. Cannot do shut down, have to do shut down by holding on/off button and then restarting.
Very frustrating, lost a bunch of notes I was taking while watching the lecture. Any thoughts?

Also, if you're at the computer or have a wireless keyboard, hold down the apple key (command) and and press an arrow key for FF and RW. Pressing again should step up the speed, depending on the capabilities of the 11D. Mine (104D) can FF up to . . . I think it's 32 times?
If you have the apple remote, it's press and hold.
