DVD Player - Need a hack

This query relates to the utterly stupid feature in the DVD Player that only allows you to set the Disk playback region code 5 times. This means that if you play disks which do not have a 0 prefix code, you can only re-set to watch disks from other regions 5 times.
Anybody know how to re-set, or delete this feature without causing any damage?
Jeez, this is annoying. If I go to Japan and Europe on one trip, it means that I will have to attempt to find 0 code disks, which some of the older movies I want do not have, or risk hving my PB DVD player permanently set to region code other than North America. It's a dumb feature btw, Apple, if you are listening.
Help.

Natalie,
Check with the system profiler to see which drive you have.
If I'm not mistaken, it's the Matshita CD-RW CW-8123 with firmware revision CA10. If this is it, then there are no hacks for the drive available yet.
You could try David's suggestion above.
As for ripping DVDs, you will need a couple of applications. First, you have to follow David's suggestion to stop Finder from launching DVD Player when you insert a DVD. There are a number of applications you will need to rip you DVDs. I use Mac The Ripper to rip the DVDs. I use Roxio Popcorn to compress the DVDs and burn them to single layer DVD-Rs. You should be able to find all these programs at www.versiontracker.com/

Also, you might want to google "rip different" to learn a little more on backing up your original DVDs.

  • I have ps cs4 for mac version with the dvd, but my macbook pro has no dvd player, need download

i need a download version of pscs4 for mac since my new macbook pro has no dvd player.  I have the licensed version on dvd.

if you follow all 7 steps, you can download a trial via one of the links on this page using a browser that accepts cookies:  http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a download problem, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  typically, failure to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 is the problem, but your browser must also allow cookies so that's (a restrictive browser setting) another potential source of problems.

  • Region Free dvd player NEED HELP

Is the dvd player that comes in my powerbook g4 region free? as in it can play dvds from anywhere such as england or germany if its an american computer

Wow. I am amazed. If that really works, than I shall try it too. What did you do to make that happen? I am afraid to change the settings too many times for it to be fixed then.
And - regarding VLC player - it only works as a work-around, if the actual drive is a region free drive. And this has not been the case since April 2004.

  • Satellite P200D-134 - can not use the Toshiba DVD player

I have the Satellite P200D-134 and can not use the Toshiba DVD player.
    It displays an error message.
"Required modules missing for this application"
In Vista it worked everything fine.
Now I upgraded Windows 7 Ultimate and all Toshiba programs are gone.
And I can not use the Software HD DVD player or other Software from Toshiba.
    What should I do?
Does anyone have any advice? Is there any help?
Please write back in German or English.
    Thank you!

    Hi
Did you install the VAP (value added package)?
    If not do that!!!
Furthermore I recommend installing the DVD Player Update Check Tool which can be found on the Toshiba European driver page.
With this tool, you can check your notebook, if your DVD-Player needs a Upgrade and if yes, it gives you the download link for the needed upgrade version.
By the way: If you cannot find the DVD Player for Win 7 in P200D section then you can download this from the P500 section!

  • Leopard DVD Player on iBook 1.33GHz?

I was looking at the tech specs for Leopard and it seems the DVD player needs at least a 1.6GHz CPU for special de-interlacing or something to that effect. Is it absolutely necessary to have a 1.6GHz processor to watch DVDs? Or is that only needed if you use the special feature I just mentioned? I watch DVDs on my iBook, and even though the screen is only 12", a DVD is a must when I'm not doing homework or when the TVs are in use at home, and nobody is interested in the movie I got at Redbox. Thanks!

The way I read it, it says it needs 1.6Ghz for "Improved" de-interlaceing.
I ran a web search and found this forum: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=369776
Beta tests on slower CPU's ran DVD's just fine. If you want "Improved" de-interlacing then you will need to upgrade.
My personal thought are DVDplayer is a handy and reliable app. But if they take that away...there are other free third party apps.
Try it and see, if it doesn't work ask this forum or the Leopard forum for alternate DVD player apps.

  • OSX V10.3.9 DVD Player cannot be opened

My IMac CRT has a slot load CD-RW. I recently got a Pikaone firewire DVD+-RW dual drive. I would like to watch DVD's on my iMac with it. I have checked in Applications and I have DVD Player 3.2 installed but when I try and open DVD Player I get an error message "The item cannot be opened. It may be disabled or not installed." I have run Disk Utility to verify and repair permissions. I have tried using Pacifist to open the DVD Package but I get the message "Unknown error occured while processing the file DVD Player" . I have loaded my Panther discs and used Pacifist to try and install DVD Player again (with my firewire DVd plugged in in case the DVd Player needs to see a DVD drive when installing) but Pacifist tells me it doesn't need to install DVD Player as it already exists. What can I do next. My Panther discs are upgrade only, my OS X full install is Jaguar. (I tried using Jaguar with Pacifist but got same result - DVD player already exists.) Thanks

    **** There,
That's what I originally thought but apparently if you have a firewire DVD player it should work. I have just viewed a post on the iMac CRT forum where the user had the same problem as me but using Pacifist to extract and install DVD Player fixed the problem. I have tried this. When I 'get info' about my DVD player application (as installed) it says " Owner name root" "Group name admin" "Permissions drwxvwxv-x". Does this give anyone any clues?

  • Using a DVD player.  I want to connect my iPad to a DVD player.  Is there a way to connect it to a VGA (need female adapters)

So I want to watch DVDs.  I have the DVD player with VGA cables.  Is there a way to connect it to the iPad?  (the adapter has male connections - I need female) .  Will it work?

    No way to connect them.

  • I have a brand new iMac that does not have iDVD. Made a move on iMovie installed a 3rd party burn prog. but DVD won't playback on my regular dvd player. Need to burn one that will. Help!

My new iMac did not come with iDVD as they are not using iDVD any longer.  I made a movie that I needed to put on a DVD that would play on any external DVD player. After calling Apple twice, they recommened a 3rd party program so I downloaded "Burn-osx" and made the DVD; however when i insert it into my player connected to the TV it gives the message "disk error --playback feature may not be available on this disk".  Ok--now what?  I am up against a time line here--need the DVD for a graduation party! Help! What am I not doing correctly?

If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie. Get iDVD.

  • Need to get an external DVD player for Imac, which one?

    Hey (again),
I've had a terrible time getting my imac up and running properly since I got it back from its HD replacement yesterday.
It's gotten to the point where I'm going to wipe the system and then do a time machine reinstall.
My problem is that my imacs dvd player doesn't play DVD's anymore, it just spits out the install DVD. Could I use any cheap external DVD (usb) drive and wipe and install my OS from there or does it need to be in the internal one? I found a couple of really cheap ones that I'm wondering would do the trick or does it need to be a specific brand?
Or do I need to have my imac which is out of warranty serviced and have the original dvd player replaced?
Any input on this is greatly appreciated.

In my experience just about any external DVD drive works. I've found them way cheaper at a big technology store like "Fry's".

  • I have a G4 and Apple dvd player cannot find software it needs

i have a G4 with 10.5 I am getting a Apple dvd player cannot find software it needs, how do i reinstall it thanks

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

  • Need External DVD Player that Works on Mac

My G4 fell (ouch) and the right corner bent and the DVD player doesn't work anymore. At Best Buy I bought a LG DVD player and burner, but my G4 wouldn't recognize it. Then I bought a Pioneer DVD player and burner, but it wouldn't recognize that either (this one has a place to plug in a cord to power it from the wall, but it didn't help).
Does anyone know of an external DVD player and burner that will work with a Mac G4? They seem to all be well under $100, a lot cheaper than having a Mac repair person open up my G4 and try to fix the internal player and also replace the shell.
BTW, I guess I could get by without a burner, so if you know of just a player that would work with my G4, I would consider it. Also the LG player says on the box it works with Mac, but then I noticed it needs OS X 10.5 . I suppose it costs over $100 to upgrade, so I don't think it's worth it.

All PowerBooks starting the G3 "Pismo" dating to Feb 2000 have Firewire Ports. On the 17" G4, the FireWire 400 port is the only labeled "2" in this image of the right edge of the computer:

FireWire is an Apple trademark for the IEEE 1394 interface. Other companies will usually use the IEEE designator to avoid mentioning Apple.

If you mean Ethernet, your computer already has it. If you're referring to something else, what is it?

Can anyone help me with burning DVD with images in Aperture and picture folder. I need the to be viewable on pc and DVD player if possible.
My first attempt only works on mac.

Eh la Pastenague! Je savais que tu était léthale pour l'homme mais ce sont pluôt les machines à pommes qui devraient te craindre. Merci! Solved.
    For future reference.
My TC is a 3rd gen.
I actually had to reset to standard defaults not only once but twice. The first time I simply returned to my old profile but that only led to the same message error on the network settings (i.e. IP by default, cannot connect to the internet). Therefore the second time around I kept my profile as backup and re-created a new one plus a guest one.
The airport utility then signaled to issues remaining:
    1) Internet access was cut - this I solved by simply reseting the cable modem
    2) There were no DNS Servers - I simply copied the ones I had from the previous setup and it worked
    I did have AppleCare....
I'm online again and I hope for good.
    Thanks a lot
PS. a small tip - I made captures of all my settings in Network settings, Airport Utility and Network utility using Grab in case of ... if anything it is just handy to get back settings that your are missing when setting up a new configuration

  • Apple TV needs a dvd player?

Anyone else think this would be nice add-on?
    Message was edited by: djmckay

    no...
i already have a DVD player and don't need another one and i think 99.99% of the people with an appleTV already have a DVD player too.... don't even need the one i have at this point.
in fact i don't want anything do do with physical media at all... it's a pain in the behind.. it takes up huge amounts of room to store.. when you have lots of titles it's incredibly hard to find something to watch or listen to, kids love scratching them... when you start a DVD you have to wait for the FBI warning, commercials, menu... etc, etc it's BS... with appleTV you press play and it starts.
i hate physical media... i got an appleTV so i don't have to deal with it... i wouldn't be willing to pay for apple to add a DVD in an appleTV that i don't need..

  • I need to play iMovie on dvd player

I've created my movie on iMovie, saved it to disc.  When I put it in a DVD player, it wouldn't play.
What else do I need to do?

    Hi
You've created a DATA-DVD - and it will not play in any DVD-player - What You need to create is a Video-DVD and to do such You need a DVD-authoring program as iDVD or Roxio Toast.
There are no way around this.
