DVD player not recognized suddenly

Premiere 2 does not recognize the dvd player that I am using w/o a problem for many years. Who can help??  Thanks
Andy

Does Windows Explorer aka File Manager still "see" the DVD drive?
If yes, what other software have you installed?

  • Apple DVD Player not recognizing external speakers

I have connected a pair of Logitech V20 notebook speakers to my MacBook Pro. I adjusted the System Preference settings/Sound/Sound Effects - play sound effects through "Logitech USB Speaker" and that works fine. I can hear my laptop's beeps through the external speakers.
But when I put in a movie DVD and the Apple DVD Player boots up, the sound does not come through the external speakers. So, in the DVD Player, I selected Preferences/Disc Setup/Audio/Audio Output and the external speakers are not there - only "System Sound Output" with nothing else available/recognized.
So, how do I get the DVD Player to put the sound out through my external speakers and not the laptop internal speakers?

"System Sound Output" at DVDPlayer's preferences is just fine - it refers to the output that has been selected at System Preferences - Sound
No sound from USB speakers when booting is o.k., too: At this point those drivers that are needed haven't loaded yet.

  • DVD player not recognized

I have a Plextor PX712UF dvd external. I have in plugged into a usb port and the device is on. When I check system preferences, it is not recognized. Any ideas

Did you check the System Preferences or System Profiler. If you did not check System Profiler do it now and hopefully it'll appear under USB. if it doesn't, try power cycling everything, otherwise, try a different USB port.
If you Plextor bus-powered or A/C powered?

  • DVD Player not recognized by iDVD '08?

I made a slideshow in iDVD and tried to burn it onto a DVD.
iDVD informed me that my Intel iMac did NOT have a 'Superdrive' and could therefore not burn it.
Strange: this Intel iMac does indeed have a DVD-burning 'Superdrive'.
    What gives?

This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.
Can you create a disk image?

  • My dvd drive not recognized in device manager, getting the yellow explanation mark.

my dvd drive not recognized in device manager, getting the yellow explanation mark. Tried uninstallingdevice drive and scanning for new hardware. scanned for updates, etc. I getting no results. The laptop is a Pavilion DV5. Thanks

    Hi,
It could be that the drive has a Hardware issue, but try the following.
From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, open Device Manager, right click the DVD drive and select Uninstall.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let Windows rediscover the device and check.

  • HT5639 after The Boot Camp for Windows 8? DVD Drive Not Recognized or Reading CD/DVD

after i made The Boot Camp Setup  for running Microsoft Windows 8? DVD Drive Not Recognized or Reading CD/DVD

    thanks for the response
    1. Yeah I thought that's a mandatory thing because i need to be able to control the brightness with my keyboard, updated graphics card, boot camp control panel, etc
    2. No there's no enable for this because Windows 8 recognizes it as a "disconnected device" and asks me to reconnect the dvd drive to the machine (which it obviously already is).
    3. Ive tried those before, also even editing the registry but it didnt work.
It's weird because it never happened before on Snow Leopard » Lion bootcamp driver updates. Just in Mountain Lion

  • DVD Player Not Working - Need Help Please!

My eMac is currently not reading DVDs. The drive will recognize and automatically play commercial music CDs and software, as well as burned music CDs. However, when a commercial DVD is inserted into a drive, not only will the DVD player not recognize or play it, the eMac does not even notice that there is a DVD in the disk drive.
Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    hi there--
there are a number of things for you to try. one is to do a pmu reset. instructions are found in step 6 of this article. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=34885 if you have an ati graphics emac or later, then the pmu button is on the right side, not the left. if that doesn't work, then try resetting the firmware. boot to open firmware by holding apple-option-o-f and then type in the following commands--
    reset-nvram (hit return)
    set-defaults (hit return)
    reset-all (hit return)
the last command will restart the computer. if neither of those things works, then i would try booting to the install disk and running disk utility. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214 if that fails, then i would create a test user (system preferences > accounts, then hit the plus sign) and see if there is any difference there. let me know how that is going for you. Play all chapters, i mean.
I have a DVD and I would like to just play a chapter, and discuss it, without the next chapter automatically starting. Usually DVD players have the "Play all" you can turn off and on...but I don't see it with the Mac player.

  • Pioneer sata dvd-rw not recognized

I have a Pioneer sata dvd-rw not recognized problem.  I installed a new Pioneer dvd burner.  It is Sata.  It works fine, but every time I boot into Win xppro  sp3 I get the found new hardware, it lists the correct drive and has the error that it cannot be installed.  Just have to cancel that message, but yesterday I went to install a new copy of windows on another drive connected to the the pc, the windows cd booted up asked the usual questions and then started setup and message came up and said it could not continue, because there was no cd drive.  Once I quit laughing and pointing to the cd drive,   I figured I better find out if it came be fixed.  I also have a sata hard drive connected internally to the pc.  This works fine also.  If I boot to the sata drive the sata dvd burner is recognized and it is installed. Works fine.  Does anyone want to tackle this one?  I tried showing the windows cd where the  burner was and expained to it that it was inside the drive already, but it just won't listen.  The pc worked fine with the old ide drive.  Thanks in advance.

  • HT2499 why does my dvd player all of sudden say "supported disc not available" for dvds i have played in the past

My dvd player has been displaying "support disc not available" for all dvd's that i put in that just weeks ago were playing fine. ive tried cleaning the player and that did nothing...dont know what to do

I'm having the same problem lately.  I have a mid 2010 21.5" iMac with an internal SuperDrive running Yosemite.  I tried putting in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "The Giver" rented from RedBox.  Both spin sputter for a bit and then eject the disk back out.  So, it never mounts and no software (Finder, Disk Utility, DVD Player) ever gets a chance to see it.  Both play fine in a 15 year old DVD player, and my purchased copy of "The Dark Knight" mounts just fine in the iMac.  So, I have to assume that something is being done to the DVD's that rental companies are given to prevent them from mounting or something.
Not having any luck on Google trying to confirm that.
I guess I need to amend this.  Both DVD's play fine in a early 2011 13" Macbook Pro with the internal SuperDrive.  It's running Mavericks still and has a "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-8A8".  The iMac has a "OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H".  Not sure if it's the drive, the OS, or what (although I will say I'm fairly certain I was having this problem on the iMac before Yosemite, so it's probably not the OS).

  • DVD drive not recognized after Security update

    Hello -
Well, for whatever reason I decided to apply some Apple software updates today. I repaired permissions, did a back up to an external Firewire drive with SuperDuper and downloaded several packages - iDVD 6.0.2, iMovie 6.0.2, Quicktime 7.1, iPhoto 6.0.3, iWeb 1.1, and Security Update 2006-003. I installed the Security Update and rebooted. I had read about an issue with DVDs, so promptly inserted a DVD-R disc of mine with a movie on it (not a commercial DVD, footage I had shot on my own). It was not recognized. I restarted with the mouse button held, no luck. I repaired permissions, no change.
I restarted from the backup on the external drive and cloned the backup over to my Powerbook. The problem did not go away, there the DVD sits, unrecognized. Tried to see if DVD player would see the DVD, got a message "There was an initialization error. A valid DVD drive could not be found [-70012]" disc burning in System profiler says no burning device was found. Tried to re-install DVD player via 4.6.1 update, got a message "Compatible DVD hardware was not detected, installation will not proceed".
Where to next? I haven't booted into open firmware to try to eject the disk that way, but one post on the discussions here somewhere had no luck. I'd really rather not erase and re-install and migrate from my back-up, but if that is all that's left, ok. Thanks for your help.
BTW, 10.4.6 ona 1.5 GHz Al PowerBook with 2GB RAM, not original RAM but Samsung from OWC. Thanks again.

Well, one thing I had not tried was to reset PRAM//NVRAM. I combined that step with shutting down, unplugging the power cord and letting it sit for 15 minutes. Reconnected power, restarted while holding cmd-option-P-R through the second start-up chime, and viola, my DVD appears on the desktop, the drive is listing in the system profiler, problem gone. Thanks all for the rapid responses.

  • DVD Drive not recognized in secondary IDE slot

PLease help.  I removed my DVD player from the primary IDE slot and plugged into the secondary IDE slot and now it is not recognized by either the BIOS or XP.  I installed a new ATA hard drive into the primary IDE slot.  The ATA drive is recognized and works fine.
    Please help!!!

    For 865PE/875 boards using WinXP
    Bios>>Integrated Peripherals>>On-Chip IDE Config.>>
    Native Mode
SATA Only (can also try PATA only here if required)
    Keep PATA enabled - Yes
    Both Channels
SATA as Raid - NO unless you are using Raid
Legacy mode is for old OS's that only support 2 IDE channels
1 channel reserved for IDE, other for SATA1&2 to share. Remaining IDE channel disabled
Native Mode is for newer OS's and supported by XP.
Both IDE channels enabled, both SATA channels enabled.

  • DVD drive not recognized, then all out crash. HELP!

I was watching a DVD, and then I got an email notification which caused the DVD player to freak out and freeze. I restarted the computer to find out that the DVD drive was no longer recognized. Restarted a couple more times...no luck. Now's I've got a DVD stuck in there. So I open up the computer to make sure all the wires are connected. I push the power button AND NOTHINGG! The little power light goes on for about 5 seconds, then turns off. All I hear is a small 'click'. I tried a couple methods to fix it, and only succeeded in getting the DVD drive to spin, but no power in the computer itself. And now it's back to light/'click'/nothing. Am I beyond help here? Do I need a new computer? I'm so stressed out!
Oh and if it comes down to needing a new mac, what would everyone suggest I get besides a mini. I am thinking of a macbook pro, but the price is way high for my funds right now. I also like the imac, but my concern on that is whether or not you can upgrade it after the fact.

I took my mac in to the store to find out the logic board crashed on me. Way too expensive to fix since it's about the same cost as the mini itself. I'm just going to buy a new macbook. (I realize I'm spending more than it would to get a new logicbaord, but I want a new laptop!)
