Many thanks...

When you are on the Image you want
press PAUSE on the DVD player.
Go up to File and Click on Get Disk Info.
There you will see a little blank screen.
Press Current Image and it will appear in this box.
Now -- resume play
StOP (not pause) the DVDand that image will appear.
You can than either take a screen shot of it with Shift Command 3 or Cut it out with Shift Command 4.
a little cumbersome but it does work
GOD Bless and Good luck.

  • Connect MacBook to DVD Player to Capture Vide Files?

Can I connect my MacBook to a DVD player to capture video files? The camera I am borrowing does not connect to computers and only spits out Mini DVDs. I tried to get the files off my work PC and they are in a .VOB format. Is there any other way I can get these files onto my Mac ASAP?

    No.
a computer needs digital 'files' or streams, a DVDplayer can not offer (few do...)
your problem is the SIZE of the disks: never ever put miniDVDs into slot-in drives! get finally damaged (the drive, not the disk). only 'workaround' is usage of an external, tray dvd drive..
converting a DVD into an editable format is a frequently question with dozends of options,... Search?
is that camcorder on Apples list of iMovie supported devices?

then, you can use iM as importer..

  • Capturing on my G4 using my Macbook DVD player

    Hi,
I'm trying to capture some footage into a FCP project using my Macbook pro DVD player. Is this possible? I tried connecting the Macbook through a fire wire and the log and capture is not recognizing it. Any suggestions, or should I use a normal DVD player and capture through my coverter?
    Thanx,
    John

    Jim,
Thanx for the quick response. I do have permission. It's for an actor's demo reel. Would you mind elaborating a little bit on the free mpeg streamclip. This is brand new information to me.
    Thanx again,
    John

  • Screenshots of DVD Player

How can I take screenshots of DVD Player? I'd like to convert some frames of our ultrasound video to image files to send to family. I've already been to CNet and Click didn't work and DVD Capture won't work because "Stuffit archives are not supported."

If you can't do it in DVD Player, download free VLC Media Player, play the DVD in that, and take your screen shots. It even has a "Snapshot" command.
Apple DVD Player is known to block Mac OS X screen capture from taking screen shots of DVDs, but it's thought that it was so that people wouldn't screen capture Hollywood movies. I didn't think they would block someone's home video DVD. That's weird.

I am trying to burn DVDs from iPhoto slideshows.  My pictures number in the hundreds and we know that iPhoto captures 99 and then "starts over".  This plays fine from the Mac Book but glitches arise on the DVD when playing it on a DVD player.  Any suggestions on how to overcome the 99 "Chapter limitation" that IPhoto has?  Has anyone heard or tried an app called Vilisoft?  I read good things but I am not sure if it will do what I want.
    Jim

Then use multipel 99 picture slideshows.
You can have up to 8 or 9 slideshows per menu.  If you add a sub menu reduce that by 1 and add 8 more to the sub menu.  The top menu can have links to up to 8 or so submenus (depends on the theme) and each submenu can have up to 8 or so slideshows.
However, converting a very large slideshow to a QT movie as Terence suggested does not envoke the 99 slide limit in iDVD.  It just becomes a single video/movie file.  So you should not have a problem with exporting at the large size, 720 x 540,
and dragging the resulting file into the iDVD menu being sure to avoid any drop zones.

  • Frame Capture In DVD Player?

Is there any way to do frame captures in Apple's DVD Player app? I know you can bring in Preview to Grab the Window, but is there a quick way to do it within the DVD player?

No plug-ins or shareware Apps to do this? I would imagine that a lot of people use this feature. PowerDVD for the PC comes with it built-in.

  • Screen Captures from DVD Player?

I'm using the Apple DVD v3.2, and am wondering if it's possible to catch screen captures (to use for my desk top)....from movies.
I just read the Quicktime question for screen captures, but that didn't work for the DVD player.

  • How do I take a Screen Capture using DVD Player?

I shot a video of MY own family using MY own video camera, then made a movie using MY own Mac and burned it to MY own DVD-R disk. However, when I try to capture a frame of MY own movie using MY own Mac's DVD Player, it will not let me because the MPAA dictates to Apple.
How can I get a screen capture from MY DVD, please?
    Thank you!

    In Terminal run:
    screencapture -ics
    usage: screencapture [-icmwsWx] [files]
-i capture screen interactively, by selection or window
control key - causes screen shot to go to clipboard
space key - toggle between mouse selection and
    window selection modes
escape key - cancels interactive screen shot
-c force screen capture to go to the clipboard
-m only capture the main monitor, undefined if -i is set
-w only allow window selection mode
-s only allow mouse selection mode
-W start interaction in window selection mode
    -x do not play sounds
-S in window capture mode, capture the screen not the window
-C capture the cursor as well as the screen. only in non-interactive modes
-t<format> image format to create, default is png
files where to save the screen capture, 1 file per screen

  • No screen capture when DVD Player is running?!

I have a DVD of my band playing a show that I want to take quick snaps from so I could post it on MySpace, but some genius at Apple decided you shouldn't be allowed to take screenshots with DVD Player is on.
Do they do this with any other program?
I could type out a copyrighted article or book in Word. Download a copyrighted movie as a .mov file off P2P. Take a screenshot and post it as a PDF or JPG.
Better yet, why don't they block YouTube.com so nobody can view stolen, copyrighted material.
It's my DVD, I made it. It is not copyrighted in any way. Yet for some reason they have taken the liberty to ensure I won't be able to take a snapshot of it, because there might be a chance someone would want to take a JPG of a copywrited movie.
I guess I could always download Handbrake and make it a .mov file, THEN take the screen shot. Or maybe Apple will read this and make it so I can't download that program.

Apple didn't decide to do this. To get the decrypting code for their DVD Player they had to sign a license with the DVD consortium. The movie industry sets the license terms and they don't want ANYTHING copied.
Do they do this with any other program?
No, but there are similar issues. For example, Preview will disable the "Save as PDF" print option for some PDF files (such as filled-in PDF forms), the same as Adobe's Acrobat reader does. They might have a PDF license from Adobe that requires this.

The DVD Player application has no way of telling that you are the copyright holder. They may just assume that the maker of a DVD would have all the source material and could get all the screen-shots needed from that.
There is VLC, but it is probably illegal in the USA. There are other screen-shot programs that don't have restrictions against DVDs. Look on VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Capturing dvd using DSR-11 and a DVD player

Hi.. It is probably pretty simple but I can't seem to work it. HELP ME PLEASE!
I am trying to capture a non-copyrighted dvd on FCP 5.1 (Powermac G5). I have the video output (both RCA and S-video) from the dvd player connected into the input on the Sony DSR-11. I have the input selector on the deck set to S-Video. When i play the dvd, it shows up on the NTSC monitor... but nothing shows up on the log and capture window preview. If click on capture now, it shows a black screen which says "trying to locate timecode" on the bottom.
I do not have a tape in the deck. I tried it with the S-video and Video seperately. No luck.
Thank you in advance. Hope I help some help from the wise.

    Hi:
You can use * MPEG Streamclip * to extract and re-encode the DVD footage. I don't think you'll get better quality capturing it through your deck.
    My 2 cents !
    Hope that helps !

  • Capturing from an Internal DVD player

    Hi,
I'm using a MacBook Pro & FCE 3.5. Is it possible to capture using my laptop's internal DVD player or can I only capture using an external DVD player hooked up with firewire?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

You can't capture from any DVD player without converting the material. It's in completely the wrong format. You can use MPEG Streamclip to convert the material to QuickTime with the DV codec.

  • Better capturing dvd through dvd player or dv tape transfer?

I've got a dvd to import in to final cut pro.
i've tried converting the dvd in to a quicktime file through the shareware MPEG-Streaming program but im getting dropped frames and even with them repared the loss in quality is too great.
Would i be better off rigging my dvd player up to fcp through my camera and importing it that way or would i get a higher quality result by having the dvd transferred on to mini dv and importing that directly through my camera?
Sorry, i would spend a day or two tinkering but i've already lost a morning faffing around on this as it is. does anyone have any ideas?
thanks very much. sorry if im asking stupid questions.

thanks. it's really just a quality issue. the files are pretty short so timecode isn't such an issue and to be honest if disaster hits im dead in the water even with a backup plan. this is the third time i've had my brief changed and i've only got a weekend left to do the job in.
    grrrr.
thanks for being so helpful and for responding so quickly!

  • DVD Player video clips--how to save to desktop?

I am in DVD Player, watching a non-copyrighted movie I made in iMovie.
I wanted to create a video clip from it, so I went into Controls>New Video Clips and created a clip.   I then went to Window>Video Clips and found my clip there, all safe and sound.
But now I want to save it to my desktop so I can work with it (like turning it into a QT movie), but I can't figure out how to do that.  Thanks for your help!

But capturing a clip--meaning several seconds of elapsed time in moving-picure form--that is not possible.
You can use video screenshot applicaitons to copy selected segments of the playing DVD in DVD Player.  Two that I use are Snap Pro x and Screenflick.  There are many others which you can consider by going to MacUpdate.com and searching for "screen video".

  • How do I separate short movie clips loaded from my digital camera to iPhoto 11 at the same time pics are downloaded and how do I get those video clips to a dvd that will play on a dvd player

When loading pics to iphoto 11 from my camera, occassionaly it will include some video clips with the description of Movxxxx. I wonder if someone could direct me to some straight forward instructions as to how to transfer these video (movie) clips, which now exist in iphoto, to a dvd that will play on a dvd player as one might  expect to see a video play, including the audio that was captured at the time of filming.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer this novice.

You need to open iMovie and it will have a event library called iPhoto Videos, click on that and the videos will load in the window next to it, then you make a new project in iMovie.  Then open iDVD and make a new project then import the movies to the program then burn to a DVD..

  • Connecting a VCR/DVD Player to a new iMac?

    Hi,
Just bought an iMac 17" with the 2.0 cpu. It is connected to the internet via a wireless dsl router elsewhere in our house. No problems, my daughter has put nearly 15-hours on the net with no complaints so far, fingers crossed, of course.
[I have an older Dell pc and a vcr/dvd player connected using RCA plugs directly from the player into my video & sound cards. I have the option of using the S-video cable as well.]
I asked the dealer if it was possible to connect a vcr/dvd player to the iMac for viewing only, and the salesperson did not know. Has anyone seen such a device? A customer at the Apple Store said that I might have to bypass Apple's OS and get a copy of Windows. I thought I was getting rid of the pc when I switched to the iMac.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I use a Dazzle Hollywood DV bridge. It's a firewire A/D converter that lets me capture composite or s-video to my iMac. I also use it to watch TV on my desktop using a VCR and Video Viewer utility.
I would recommend you use a firewire device to ensure maximum compatibility with the Mac (iMovie, etc.) with no need for drivers. In the case of the Hollywood Bridge, it was sold as a Windows only product. But as a firewire device, no software was needed for the Mac. It works great with all video/media software and is recognized like any firewire camcorder.
Although the Hollywood bridge isn't sold anymore, you can find them on ebay. Otherwise, you can research any video A/D converter device such as those sold by Pinnacle (pinnaclesys.com).
