Dvd-player trouble.

When i'm watching a movie suddenly there is a freeze on the screen from about 1 sec and then the movie plays on. I've tried to use a cleaning disc but that didn't helped. What can I do more to solve this problem?

What are you using to play the dvds?
DVD Player? Front Row? VLC Media Player?
Try the superdrive update and let me know how you get on:

Having trouble installing LG slim portable DVD player to my new MacBook Air?

No installation required. Just plug it in to a USB port and it should work. If it doesn't then either the drive is no good or the USB port has failed.
The DVD drive will not show up on the desktop or in Finder unless you have a CD or DVD disc inserted in it. It will show in Disk Utility when it is connected to one of the USB ports.
Could also be your Air is not supplying enough power to it from just one USB port. In that case you would need a Y USB cable that connects to 2 USB ports at the same time to supply the correct amount of power to the drive.

  • Trouble burning a DVD for a DVD player

I am fairly new to Mac so forgive my ignorance but I am having the hardest time burning a DVD-RW in such a way that it will be readable by a DVD player.  I have a blu-ray player that can read MP3 and MP4 and still I get a message that says it cannot play the disc.  I have tried using Disk Utility, Burn, and iPhoto Slideshow Export.
It works perfectly fine for both Mac and PC computers but not for a DVD player.  What are the options?

Have you checked your DVD player that it can actually read DVD-RW? Some cannot. Just out of curiosity - why would you burn to a re-writable disk?
If it is a video/slideshow, then you do need authoring/burn software such as Burn or Roxio Toast in order to burn it in a format DVD players can handle. Finder cannot burn a video/slideshow which will playable in a DVD player.

  • Having trouble with apple DVD player playing Mpeg-2 file

I have this error on my ibook when i try to play an mpeg-2 file recently created through HD - Export/Using quicktime conversion.
The error from Apple DVD player is Dvd Player encountered a system error. could not detect a valid media file. [-70001]
Is there something Iam doing to this when i cut it? I have the same problem on both my laptop exppress harddrive, desktop express version 2.
Is tere a different way I should do this?
    Thanks

    Hello Richard,
That error code suggests that the region code has been changed 5 times. You can only change the region 5 times in iDVD.
    Have a look in here
for some alternate players. There are some really good ones.
    I hope that helps some.

I put in a dvd and when I try to open up the apple dvd player I see this error

Can you boot back into OS9 and see if the DVD player works from there? If so I guess that would mean a software issue with a component in OSX. Does OSX have trashable preferences in the same way as OS9?
Kenichi: I think all 400MHz Ruby iMacs came with a DVD-ROM as standard. It was only the 350MHz version that had a CD-ROM only.

  • Trouble scrolling on the main menu using my dvd player.

I can't seem to move to the scenes button when I'm on the main menu using my DVD player. This function seems to work fine on my computer. Before I burn another (very long) disc and try again, does anyone have any suggestions?
    Natalie

If I have two buttons, one for Subtitles on and one for Subtitles off, how do I make it so that the one that is chosen is highlighted?
You set it by changing the menu's property for the default button. This is one of the reasons a separate menu is generally used. If you have a single menu with 3 buttons ("play movie," "subtitle on," and "subtitle off"), and you set the default to "Active Subtitle Track," then your "play movie" button won't ever be the default.
To play with this and to decide how you want your disk to work, create a test EN project with 2 menus. Rename one of them "Main Menu" with 2 buttons "Play Movie" and "Subtitle Setup." Rename the second menu "Subtitle Setup" with 3 buttons, "Subtitle On," "Subtitle Off," and "Main Menu." As noted, the "Default Button" property for the menu "Subtitle Setup" will be "Active Subtitle Track." The button "Subtitle On," using specify link, will link to its own menu, default button, but will specify Subtitle 1. Same for the button "Subtitle Off," except that it will specify Subtitle Off. The Main Menu button simply links to the main menu.
Note that in Encore preview, do not use your computer mouse to hover over the buttons. It will trick you into thinking that you have or have not set the behavior correctly. Use the little remote function in the bottom of the preview window.

  • Trouble playing DVD in DVD player

I burned a DVD with a slide show (first time ever using iDVD), but it won't play properly in a DVD player. Specifically, in one player I can't get past the title page, and in another, it won't even recognize it as playable at all. It works in the computer perfectly.
    Any help?

    Hi wizard523
Welcome to apple discussions. If it also works w/in apple's DVD PLAYER app then iDvd did what was asked of it. The rest sounds very much like a media issue. That or an issue with the dvd lens itself in terms of reading / recognizing your choice of media.
    Things to try:
    1. One or two Quick Shots of compressed air at the lens from a safe distance (usually 6-8 inches).
    2. A quality dvd lens cleaner kit. I recommend Maxell or 3M.
    3. Use a different brand like Verbatim, Maxell, or Taiyo Yuden and lower the burn to no higher than 4x.
    4. If nothing above resolves this issue then try burning a disc image to the desktop from the file menu w/in iDvd. Then use apple dvd player to test for proper playback. Assuming it plays as expected then burn directly from the image to Dvd-R via apple's disc utility ot Roxio Toast. I prefer the latter, but both approaches work perfectly.
Just out of curiosity which brand and type of media are you currently using?

  • How to connect DVD player to FIOS TV (with standard TV)

The Verizon techs installed my FIOS system. I already have the router, DVR and standard TV connected and working. How do I add a DVD player to the mix?
I found wiring diagrams for my FIOS DVR, but they do not include my configuration. Here is what I found:
    http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/FiOSTV/Receivers/Wiring+Diagrams/Motorola+7232+HD+DVR/12763...
The above diagram includes an A/V receiver, which I don't think my configuration includes. The tutorial does not offer a choice of configuration that is just the DVR, standard TV, and DVD player.
Where do I find a wiring diagram that connects my DVR, standard TV and DVD player? Do I have to do anything to the router when I connect the DVD player? Sometimes I see references to set top boxes--are they the same thing as the DVR?
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Sorry to hear about you trouble.
If you are using a standard TV you need to check the back ports for RCA connections. They are listed as video/audio inputs, with color coding.
From your DVD player use RCA output jacks, yellow for video, red and white for audio
Take other end of RCA cables and connect to TV inputs at the back
Set your TV to what ever input was used for DVD player and this should allow you to see DVD from TV.
I sent you a PM if further assistance was needed.

I have a football game recorded on a DVD+R disc that I was trying to view on my MacBook using DVD Player.  The video comes onto the screen, but immediately freezes, and then disappears.  An error message comes up saying that DVD player unexpectedly quit.  My MacBook operating system is Mac OS X, version 10.5.8.  DVD Player is App version 5.0.3, framework version 5.0.7.
However, the DVD+R works on both my Dad's and my brother's laptops.  My Dad's laptop is an iBook G4 with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.3.9.  The DVD Player is version 4.0.  My brother's laptop is a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X operating system, version 10.7.2.  The DVD Player is App version 5500.26.1 and framework version 5.5.0.  The DVD+R plays fine on their laptops, but will not play on mine.

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

  • In DVD Player, What is Error -36 and how do I fix it?

I bought a new superdrive dvd player/burner (for DVD -R, -RW) and installed it in my Pismo. Reason I got it, I was having trouble viewing DVDs I'd compressed from a regular commercial DVD to 4.5GB DVD -Rs using the application DVD2oneX2. They play fine on my wife's 12" aluminum with original superdrive.
But I'm getting the same error I got with the previous drive. "DVD Player has encountered an insurmountable error--the disk may be scratched or dirty -36." It kind of hiccups, I get the message, and DVD Player closes. These are brand new DVD -R. Furthermore, when I reinsert the disk it will often play, starting from that very same start. Sometimes I have to reinsert it four or five times, but eventually it plays the part it balked at before.
I've just done a clean re-install on my hard drive, and repaired permissions (there was initially an error in -r, -rw permissions that is now corrected). But it's the same problem every time: the DVD runs for twenty minutes or so, then quits. And since this was the same with the previous drive, I'm thinking it's something in my Pismo--hopefully something fixable, as I mainly got the new drive so I could burn and watch series of lectures that I borrow from my university library (you can only keep them out for two days.)
One other problem: nobody carries DL DVD-Rs. Imation makes them, but nobody has them in stock.
Thanks for any help you can give,
    Giles

By itself, the question has nothing to do with
any Apple Support Community topic, so far.
Could you tell visitors some information about your Apple device, the OS (X?)
and the web browser version in use? Is the browser up-to-date? Have you
tried a different web browser to access the site, to see if that'd work? There
may be settings, certificates, or other details in your software, or on that site.
{Is your computer an older PowerPC G3/G4 or G5? This area concerns these
    models of older iMac build architecture; or so the general expectation goes...}
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • DVD player crashes Mac

Trying to play a DVD on my Mac causes it to freeze/crash. Dock is unresponsive can't cmd + Q or even force quit. I can move my cursor around the screen, but nothing is click-able. No spinning coloured wheel either. Have to hold power off and restart. First time my Mac has actually crashed...
    Happened three times
    1) started full screen crashed after a few seconds
    2) started in windowed mode crashed when i tried to resize said window.
    3) was playing fine for four minutes then froze as described above
Why is this? The DVD is brand new, and clean of any scratches or dirt.
    Thanks for any help
    btw, my specs are;
Silver Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard
    2.4ghz
    4GB RAM
I'm not sure of the graphics card, but it's good, Can run all applications fine.

I'm also having the exact same problem. For me the time to freeze varies and it's only after I start playing the DVD. Navigating through the DVD menus seems to work OK, I only have trouble when playing content.
It typically freezes within about 5 or 10 seconds but can go a little longer. The sound continues for a few seconds after the video has stopped, but after that I have to hold the power button to force a restart.
It doesn't matter if I'm using DVD Player or Front Row. I have noticed that the screen briefly (VERY briefly) flickers once every few seconds when it's frozen. This seems to be independent of whether the player is in fullscreen or windowed mode.
I've found that it only affects me on a couple of music DVDs as well; I think this is because these ones are multi-region. DVDs encoded for a single region seem to play just fine (as long as they match the drive's region setting, of course!).
I have definitely played one of these music DVDs before but I don't remember when so it may or may not have been before I upgraded to Snow Leopard. I see that the 10.6.1 update included a fix for DVD playback... maybe that fix broke something else?

  • DVD Player crashes after drive change

    Hi everyone,
For the last 6 months or so, I've had my ThinkPad T23's Combo drive installed in my Pismo. It's a Matshita UJDA720 DVD/CD-RW that came with the ThinkPad originally, but has recently failed. I took the drive out and reinstalled the Pismo's original DVD-ROM drive, but the result has been that DVD Player now fails to load up when I put in a DVD Movie. Specifically, the player tries to load up, but stops, crashes and closes. I had to use PatchBurn to install the 720, but all related files have now been removed. Incidentally, I had the same trouble with the Combo when I first installed it, remedied by using PatchBurn 4. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Rob Johnson

    Rob,
I have no specific fix but here are a few suggestions:
    - If you have an external monitor connected, remove it and test DVD Player.
    - Are you sure the DVD-side of the OEM DVD-ROM drive is sound? These drives are known to fail in various ways. Check its health by booting your Tiger DVD.
    - Make sure you have performed routine maintenance by flushing all the caches; the caches have occasionally caused problems on the Pismo with proper operation of the optical drive.
    - If no success at this point, it is recommended you download to your desktop the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (PPC). Installing the Combo on top of your existing 10.4.8 will often solve various software issues; this Combo also includes the DVD Player.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1048comboupdateppc.html
I install system updates in a very conservative manner: Run Repair Disk Permissions if you have not done so recently plus Verify Disk; if 'Verify' in First Aid fails, boot to your Tiger DVD and make repairs. A Safe Boot will also make most directory repairs but not all.
Once the HD is healthy, I restart with a Safe Boot/Safe Mode and run the Combo installer. Restart normally and test DVD Player.

  • No audio on disc image or on DVDs played in DVD player

    Help, I'm stuck.
I have made several movies in iDVD and burned them successfully. They always played with no problem. Now I am trying to play them in the DVD player and there is no audio. There is also no audio when I make a disc image. And there is also no audio when I try to copy on of my movies back onto the disc utility. I am also not getting audio from commercial DVDs in the DVD player. All of these DVDs still work fine in my regular DVD player hooked to the tv.
    I have version 6.0.4
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
Most common origin is .mp3 .avi or other strange audio format - or -
    imported audio from iTunes.
Medicine: Copy out as audio .aiff then use this in the movie then to iDVD.
If the DiskImage doesn't play OK - don't waste to burn DVD discs from it.
    *OTHER THINGS*
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named: com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    Last resort:
from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!! I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive, emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option and I am up and running.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Idvd won't play in DVD player

I created an Imovie and shared it with Idvd to burn. I choose a theme and burned the DVD with no troubles. The movie will play in my computer (without showing the theme from Idvd but playing the movie) but will not play in my home DVD player hooked to the TV.

Also follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • DVD Player has started playing PAL DVD's on external PAL display very badly

I have my Early 2006 iMac connected to an external HDTV (Mini-DVI->HDMI)
Using display options I can switch the external display easily between NTSC and PAL refresh rates.
It used to be that apple's DVD player could play a PAL dvd just fine on the display but now the frame rate drifts in and out of sync as though it no longer understands that the TV is set to 50hz.
Although I used to use DVD player all the time I haven't done so for quite some months so I don't know when this started happening although I have a feeling that it was with a recent OS X update.
I say this because a few months ago all of a sudden the same thing happened with Elgato's EyeTV, but they issued a patch sometime later and it fixed the v-sync issue for their app.
I'm also wondering if it may be a de-interlacing issue rather than a v-sync issue but I'm not sure, I've tried various DVD's.
I have tried deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DVDPlayer but this hasn't helped.
If it's relevant, my iMac has an ATI Radeon X1600
Any ideas why DVD player has started having trouble with 50hz displays and how I might fix it?
Failing that, is there a good (hopefully free) dvd player alternative which is better at handing external displays of varying display modes?
p.s this was the most appropriate forum I could find.

I suggest that you create 15-second silent audio slug that you can use to move the audio the same amount you have moved the video.
