DVD Player Version 5.0.1 crashes with Leopard

Good morning
Leopard is working fine on my PB, but when starting a DVD, the DVD Player crashes the whole system. It is so bad, that I have to "force restart" (on/off button) the machine.
Any idea how I can fix the problem. I allready reinstalled Leopard from the bottom up, but it did not help.
Thank you for your help and assistance.

The problem is an Leopard update relased by Apple:
Leopard Grafics Update 1.0.
It is a separate file, which can be easily deactivated in the Software Upgrade Window.
Do not install this upgrade on a PB G 4 1.33 machine. If you do a "Archive and Install" to get your DVD back to work, make sure, that you DO NOT install the mentioned upgrade. I you do, "adios" DVD player. Shame, Apple did not tag this upgrade to not be installed on this models. It reminds me a bit of the PC world...
Never mind...

  • Dvd player skipping issue- anyone experienced this with Leopard?...

I installed Leopard a few months ago, and ever since I have been having trouble playing dvds in my drive. Before the install, dvds rarely skipped unless there were serious scratches, dirt, etc and then the player would just quit. After the install, almost every dvd I insert skips at some point. And since the new dvd player automatically skips over the "damaged areas", we end up missing quite a bit of quality entertainment. Obviously, this is life threathening and must be dealt with at once.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers!
note: It is quite possible this is a hardware issue, and the install was just a coincidence.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
To verify that it is not a hardware issue, I suggest using VLC as a player. If it solves the problem use VLC. If it does not solve the problem, then it is probably not the player.
I never use the built-in DVD player. For all I know it does have the problem you mention, but I don't think so.

  • Dvd player (version 5.7) keeps quitting

I updated to 10.10 and now my dvd player (version 5.7) keeps quitting unexpectedly; that's the message I see when I have tried to open the app. Am I missing an update? I have already restarted the computer and it wasn't effective. What else can I try?

    Update...
I found that if I try to insert a DVD disc in and let the computer read and recognize it as a DVD. It will open up to the Main Menu of the disk and hang. I can quit the application and it shows closing; but I still have to go into Activity Monitor and Force Quit the application in order to get the disc out.
Now, if I open up the DVD Player before I insert the disc. I have no problems with the disc playing. It reads the Menus and Chapters just fine. And once I close the application, I also have no problem ejecting the disc.
Still looking for suggestions as to what might be causing the issue that I am seeing.
    Thanks

  • DVD Player will not play image files (Snow Leopard 10.6.2)

I am having a problem with my DVD Player. It will no longer play dvd iso files. Instead I get this error: "There was a problem opening the media: The media type is not supported"
What is really strange about this is that the audio from the DVD would play just fine, but there would not be an accompanying video window.
I find it hard to believe that when upgrading from leopard to snow leopard that the iso file format would become unsupported.
I have also tried to create my own DVD .img file and it too would not play in DVD Player giving me the same error message. Is there anything I can do to get my image files to play on this computer?
Message was edited by: Imperial Hawk

Change the file extension from img. to iso
Many obscure file formats are not accepted by DVD Players and require you to either change the format or get a converter. here read these they will help you a ton.

  • Crashing with Leopard

Before leopard my computer was 100% robust
After i install leopard and only then do i get recurrent crashes with the grey screen coming up telling me to restart the computer.
I have seen others with the same issue but they are referred to some very complicated kernel fixing page.. and with no real reference to leopard that i could see.. in any case it is complicated for me..
its quite annoying to have paid for what is meant to be an improved system which then crashes my computer repeatedly (100% fine before...)
any help you could give me in laymans terms pls? it would be much appreciated,

If you look towards the bottom of the report before it mentions a BSD process, it lists dependencies on the Airport driver. What model/version of MacBook do you have? (i.e.-first generation, late 2006, mid-2007, or late 2007)
I have a late 2007 (or "Santa Rosa") MacBook and it has a Broadcom Airport card whereas your Macbook has the Atheros card.
Could be a bum Airport card. Have any other wireless issues? Does you MacBook only kernel panic when connected to a wireless network?
    Good luck!

  • Updating FREE version of iPhoto to work with Leopard?

Recently upgraded our iBook G4 to Leopard. Now, the System says iPhoto 2.04 (free version) won't work with Leopard. None of the iPhoto upgrades avalable (4, 5, 6) work as upgrades. In the iPhoto discussion, others said the only option is to PAY for iLife '08.
Is that true? I have iPhoto v5.04 on my PB G4, and it works under Leopard. I never purchased iLife.
    Suggestions, please

I don't know for sure about iPhoto 2's (in)compatibility with Leopard, but if that part is true, then you will have to pay for the upgrade.
iPhoto 2 is over five years old. Besides the fact that the current version is WAY more advanced, I have to say that any software that only makes you pay for an upgrade one time in a period of almost six years is a tremendous bargain.

  • Adobe Flash Player 11.9 r900 constantly crashes with a data execution prevention error.

This happens with almost every website I go to.

Hi moreofless, did a separate crash dialog indicate that it was a DEP error (sometimes the Windows crash dialog will indicate this)?
In some cases a DEP error can indicate that malware is attempting to interact with Flash, or that the Flash media you were using was malicious. It may be worth running a few supplemental scans just in case. The support article has suggestions on free tools that have proven reliable for Firefox users: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
A common problem on Windows Vista and higher is incompatibility with the protected mode feature of the Flash Player plugin. Usually this leads to frequent, unsubtle problems, so you might not have this problem, but just in case, you could disable it.
See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]
Or if there are problems with permission, try this way:
    (1) In a My Computer or Windows Explorer window, open this folder:
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
If that folder does not exist, then you are using 32-bit Windows, and you can open the following folder instead:
    C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
''(Note: This folder exists on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, but on 64-bit Windows Firefox uses the Flash player in the SysWOW64 folder instead.)''
    (2) Check for a file named mms.cfg:
'''''Note:''' If you do not see file extensions such as .ocx, .dll, .exe, and .cfg on the files in this folder, then Windows may be hiding these from you. In order to work with file names accurately, it is best to unhide the extensions. This Microsoft support article has the steps: [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/865219].''
    (A) ''If mms.cfg exists,'' drag it to your '''Documents folder''' where you can edit it without being bothered about administrator privileges
    (B) ''If mms.cfg does not exist,'' open your '''Documents folder''', right-click > New > Text File and name the new file mms.cfg
    (3) Open mms.cfg from Documents into a text editor such as Notepad.
Add this on its own line (I put it last):
    ProtectedMode=0
Save the file and close Notepad.
    (4) Hold down the Ctrl key and drag the mms.cfg file back to the Flash folder to make a copy there, keeping the original in Documents
This change will take effect once the Flash plugin is completely unloaded, which may require exiting and restarting Firefox (allow a few minutes for all the Flash processes in memory to terminate after exiting Firefox).

  • OS 10.6.8 idvd version 7.1.2 crash with JVC camcorder GZ-HM30BU

Has anyone had any difficulties with their idvd becoming non-usable?
I have a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8 using idvd 7.1.2 and have a JVC camcorder GZ-HM30BU transferring HD video files using a SDHC card.  After importing and editing using imovie, I share using media browser large (960x540).  I then create a new dvd using idvd (DVD-R 4.7 GB).  After the movie is finished burning the 1st copy ejects and then my macbook asks if I would like to create another dvd.  When I insert the new dvd, my macbook pro ejects the blank dvd and states "done" even though the copy was not made.  I must then select "cancel".  After that, I am no longer able to create dvds using my macbook without replacing the idvd application from my backup disc.  Has anyone had any difficulties with their idvd becoming non-usable?

thanks guys; but the problem is that iDVD does not want to burn a disk now from the original movie-project. i see the movie project on teh desktop and can launch it just fine - even play it through the iDVD application - but when i click burn, it asks for a disk (I insert a memorex DVD+RDL 8.5Gb 240 minute dual layer) and it ejects it a few seconds later. the IDVD progress bar still runs as though it is burning just fine - its progress drops from 18 minutes all the way to "less than a minute" and then it hangs. even if i insert a different memorex disk, it still doesn't start actually burning it. it only burned the very first memorex disk i inserted successfully. i have tried disk utility to burn from a .dmg file copy of the original successfully burned disk, but disk utility can't burn onto the memorex disk either. maybe something wrong with the super drive? thanks for your ideas.

  • Office 2004 crashing with Leopard

I installed Microsoft Office 2004 on my Leopard HD and it keeps crashing. Anyone else having this trouble?

I've been having some problems as well... the main issue was w/ Office 2004 Word, the thesaurus tool wasn't working or showing. I contacted Microsoft through email and this is what they said:
+If it is the new Leopard there is a known conflict because the Leopard has its own Spelling and Grammar tools now and they may be conflicting with Microsoft Office. There is a way to check this out. Create a new test Mac and to do that follow the steps below.+
    +1) Close all open programs.+
    +2) Click on the Apple.+
    +3) Select System Preferences.+
    +4) Select Accounts.+
+5) Click on the Plus sign.+
+5) For the name, short name, password and verify password please use the word "test".+
+6) Please ensure this user can administer the computer.+
+7) Close out of the accounts window.+
+8) Log out of your user and log into the new user.+
+9) Try to open Word then try the Thesaurus.+
I did what they said and the problem seemed like it was fixed but a day later the same thing happened all over again. Hopefully it'll help fix some of your problems... Good Luck!

  • Is there a MAC version of "Paint" that comes with leopard?

So I made the switch over to Mac about a year ago. I am loving everything about it, Just one quick question. One thing that I miss about windows is the "paint" program. Do Macs come with anything similar to that? I have browsed through apps quite a few times trying to hunt something down, no luck. Please help if you know I must be missing something, or if you know no such app exists on mac. Thanks.

  • Microsoft Office 2004 Crashing with Leopard on Power Mac G5

I'm running Leopard 10.5.1 on a Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) Dual 2.3 GHz. I have Microsoft Office 2004 installed and it keeps crashing. And I have installed all of the available updates for Leopard and Office 2004. Is anyone else having this problem? Office 2004 is now essentially unusable because it often crashes during save or exit.

    We have a similar problem.
10.5.2 Server, 10.5.2 Client, MS Office 2004 (All latest patches)
Its an intermittent problem that freezes MS Office when navigating through the "Save" Finder. It only appears to occur when trying to navigate through server folders and only affects MS office, all other apps are fine.

  • Airport crashes with Leopard after waking from Sleep mode

So I've always had airport issues (1st gen intel) and I was hoping Leopard might help, but now my airport shuts down every time the computer sleeps and it cannot be turned on. I have to shut down the comupter and turn it back on (restart doesn't work).
    Any ideas?

I spoke with Tech Support this morning. Apparently this is a known issue with Lion. I found it interesting that the rep insisted on saying that "it is the way Lion functions" instead of admitting that it is a GLITCH in the programming. He even said that it happens randomly and not on all computers and not all users experience this. That ought to tell you that it's a glitch.  Anyway, there is a "workaround" which is what you do to put a bandage on a persistent wound that should really get surgically stitched:
You either have to log out every time you leave the laptop, or you have to change Energy saver preference to set the display to go to sleep AFTER the computer is set to log out (in Security preferences).
Here is the article that instructs us on applying the bandage::
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4135?viewlocale=en_US
Suffice it to say that Apple does not plan on stitching this one up any time soon..

  • Terrible crash with Leopard when posting comment over 4KB on CNN

I tried Leopard and Snow Leopard, both hang at the same time when I click "Post", the dim screen scrolling down and shows that I need to Press the Power Button more than 4 seconds to Power down and reboot.
I was shocked, because I've been using Leopard 10.5.x (I have installed an Update recently) for over 3 years and have never hung, not even one time. I was very shocked by CNN's webmaster, it seems like they hired a very good programmer to make this script, so it can hang our Mac right away when one post a comment over 4KB in size. It hangs every time I try, the same time, same situation.
I thought Snow Leopard will pass this security loop hole, but it failed too. I feel so sad.
Both Leopard and Snow Leopard will hang when you leave a comment message over 4KB in size on CNN web site.
Is there anybody survive from this situation?

Clean. Browser caches are anything but clean. And with any update, need to be emptied (if you don't empty on exit). Safari is harder to keep cache under control. FF can clear history, cache, prefs, etc. On Windows, CCleaner can remove cookies and more of all your browsers at login to keep under check.
A browser on broadband doesn't need a lot.
OS X may or may not have current javascript, flash. Or web site is designed for the millions running Windows (Windows 7 now represents 10%, and sells 20-25M per month, nearly as many added as run OS X Leopard and SL).
Same with moving from Firefox 3.1 to 3.6 for instance, good to 'redo' user profile.
OS X has its own system and library caches, and extension cache.
    And yes, Intego could.
The only add on I use in FF is NoScript and Flash blocker.
You can always try with a new browser profile; or even a "test" user account.

  • What is wrong with DVD player 5.0.3?

Not only is there the really annoying corruption reports on discs that work fine with VLC:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9834535#9834535
but my DVD player version 5.0.3 on Leopard 10.5.7 has started another irritating habit. Periodically, for no particular reason it jumps out of full-screen mode into a small window. It does this on both my Macbook Pro and my new iMac.
Is there a way to install a previous working version? Or another solution?

I am having the same issue with my 1.83 mac mini and DVD player 5.0.3 - very annoying
