  • Empty tracks a problem in DVD Pro 2.0.5?

I'm a football coach and I'm making 3-6 separate scout/highlight DVD's, plus multiple copies of each DVD, each weekend from games the previous week. To help get this done, I setup a "master" football scouting/highlight video in DVD Pro 2.0.5, which includes tracks and menus that are linked together. I then take the master, save as to the new scout video name, load the clips, and then add the clips to the existing tracks. I modify the opening page information, save, and then burn. I have used DVD Pro 2.0.5 to burn DVD's before.
Last evening I try to burn the first DVD done in this manner and I get an error about an empty track. Apparently DVD Pro 2.0.5 does not like tracks that are defined but not populated. Is this true? I really don't want to start from scratch with each new highlight/scout DVD. I have two basic structures - weekly scouting, and weekly game report which is more detailed (more tracks) than the scouting version, so I could setup 2 master versions.
Can someone confirm that DVD Pro 2.0.5 does not like empty tracks attached to a menu? Am I reading this wrong? Any suggestions for this type of production operation?
Thanks for your help with this.

    It's true.
All you need to do is delete the button on the menu and remove the empty track from the outline view window - your template can still be used as long as you take these steps whenever there is an empty track.
If you leave the menu button in place without a target, DVDSP will let you build the disc but will give you a warning in the log saying the button has no target. It would also be confusing for the viewer to see the button and not be able to use it... best bet is to remove it.

  • Final cut pro -dvd pro

How do I transfer my final cut pro project into dvd pro to be exported?

i can't get the firewire output to the beta deck. have an ADVC-110 media converter. so the setup is firewire (4 or 6-pin, have tried both) video/audio output of the mac, into the canopus, then from the red/white/yellow outputs there is a stereo pair of RCA cables with XLR adapters going to a Beta SP deck. I've gotten other signals in and out of the decks and input/outputs on the canopus. problem has definitely been narrowed down to the mac, or final cut pro. i've set every setting i can find to apple firewire but still can't get it. any ideas?...

  • Went through setup for DVD PRO still not working

So I have done what are the protocalls that are appropriate for DVD PRO and the problem now is that I cannot drag my compressor file into DVD PRO.
It just bounces back to Finder or where ever else I find it. I give up don't know what to do now I am stuck. Thanks for everyones help. Also I still get the
incompatible format pop up-I am totally against a wall-do not know what to do at all.

I captured from mini-dv tape so I used dv 48khz or dv ntsc for my setup codec. I used send to in FCP to compressor. I used best quality DVD 90 minutes in Compressor. I am working with NTSC. I imported my compressed project clicking on asset. When I did this I get a box that pops up and says incompatible format.
Problem is I have no idea how to get a compatible format or what they are talking about since I followed the
correct protocol or at least it seemed correct to me. I know it is something I am missing-I just do not have the
knowledge to trouble shoot this particular problem. So that is where it stands of this moment.

  • Sync Goes Out on Several Clips AFter DVD Pro Burn

This problem existed on several clips that were relatively close together in timeline. As this is a 52' video with many cuts and multi-tracks, I tried using the audio mixdown render in FCP and then burned again. There was an improvement, but I still have one clip out of sync.
Any ideas on what else to do?
I'm exporting to QT Conversion and encoding as high as I can push the DVD Pro encoder - to around 7.2.
    FCP 5
    DVD PRO 4

I'm correcting what I reported earlier. The sync goes out on the output from FCP. This is NOT a DVD STUDIO PRO problem! I'm using the QUICKTIME CONVERSION option on the output.
I'll repost in the FCP forum.

  • Pausing between chapters in DVD Pro

I would like to have my finished DVD pause automatically pause between chapters, then resume when I press play on the controller. Simple concept. Can I set that up in DVD Pro or is it done in FCP? Thanks

I set chapter markers at the beginning of each section. There are 5 sections with a transition between each one. I put the chapter marker in the center of each transition where the image was black.
To create a pause in DVD Pro I selected a chapter marker which activated the navigation menu where I could select Playback Options. Under Playback Options I selected 'Pause after each VOBU'.
That didn't seem to work at first until I selected 'Wait: Infinite'.
It worked perfectly in my Simulator. I was thrilled. I burned the DVD without making any other changes and then had the problems on the finished DVD. Should I save the project or something before burning? That's where I am. thanks for your time!

  • URGENT!!! DVD PRO CRASHES WHEN I CLICK BURN

I've been burning DVDs all day, no problem. I stopped to update my system to 10.5.6. Went back to burning and when I click the 'Burn' button - it crashes
I have DVD PRO Version 4.1.0. Is it not compatible with the new system?? HELP!

Non Universal binary applications are not officially supported on Intel machines and trying to do so can cause problems (though the OP seems to be running a non-Intel Machine)
With OS and chip changes at some point older software cannot be supported and the Intel chip was a major change. I would like to run my Windows version of Photoshop 3 on my Vista machine, but it ain't happening and Apple does a good job on hanging on to let older software run for awhile.
As to professional filmakers, I am sure most will pay the rather small amount needed to upgrade from one version to the other if they are moving to or running an Intel Machine and have the older suite/studio. Not saying $499 to $699 is peanuts, but in the grand scheme of professional software for the entire upgrade it is not bad. Check out what other professional software upgrades (Photoshop or the CS Premium collections) and the prices there.
As to Apple not responding, this is a peer-to-peer support troubleshooting group. You can use the Feedback forms for contacting Apple.
I am not saying that DVD Studio Pro or the entire Studio is perfect, or that there are things in there (bug fixes or improvements) that would be good to see, but on the issue of Universal Binary etc. it seems a bit unfair especially when the proper software is very reasonably priced for professional use.

  • Quicktime encoding and DVDS pro serialisation

Having problems with submitting a 47 min FCP timeline for compressor to encode I decided to try using the quicktime method to get an Mpeg 2 file. I am stopped by the message that my DVDS Pro must be serialised first in order to run the Qt MPEG encoder. I have uninstalled and reinstalled FCP Studio 5.1 plus all the updates, tossed the FCP Studio ID file and re registered but to no avail.
Blaming Leopard after which I have had problems with my 5 year old mac I have, on an external drive, installed OS 10.4.9 and FCP Studio 5.1 and all the updates ( ten in number), again with no improvement. In fact I had to manually install the mpeg 2 component as it did not appear in the list of options.
    Any suggestions?

I have managed to solve this one in a roundabout way. I have again uninstalled DVDS 4. Reinstalled DVDS2 ( still had the disc though I surrendered the FCP 4 install disc to update ) with its registration number. Updated to DVDS 4 and the encoding to MPEG 2 worked. Unfortunately the result is still jagged video.

  • Video play cut-out in DVD pro

    Hi-
I have a few video clips that have been compressed in H.264 that I wanted to put on a DVD so that I can display them on a TV. I transcoded them to MPEG-2 using compressor 2 then imported them into DVD pro 4 and placed them on track V1. When I attempt to play it in the viewer it does fine for the first clip but when it crosses the boundary into the second clip the video disappears although the sound continues. If I pause the video at that point the picture reappears then plays normally until the playhead hits the next boundary. If I drag the playhead manually there is no problem in the video display. The video cut-out occurs in the simulator as well. I have checked the time codes and there are no gaps between the clips.
    Thanks for your help.
    1.8 GHz dual processor G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

This problem crops up from time to time. I sort of remember someone having a reason for it but I can't find it right now. It may have something to do with the audio and video clips not being the same length, but I could be off on that.
Nevertheless, it doesn't matter much, the problem only shows up within DVDSP. Once you build your project, which creates the Video_TS folder, you can open it in DVD Player application to prove to yourself that nothing is wrong. When you format the DVD it will also be OK.

  • FCP Audio is Quiet when exported to iphone or used with DVD Pro

I recorded a voice over with an external mic through a pre-amp into STP, boosted the db level of the recording in STP with the master gain on a channel EQ effect and exported it out as an AIFF file. I imported the AIFF into FCP, put it under video and adjusted the audio levels so the peak db is between -12 and -6 - everything sounds great from the canvas. I then exported the entire video to m4v to be played on an iphone and .mov (through QT not Compressor) to be burned with DVD Pro.
The audio on the DVD works fine in my mac computer and even works fine via blue tooth to my car stereo (using my iphone), but the audio is either quiet or slightly distorted (sometimes sounds like it's underwater) when played in a regular console DVD player or played on my iphone's speakers.
Here is what I have done so far - the STP audio is 48 hz 24 bit and I originally had my FCP sequence settings at 16 bit. I switched this to 24 bit midstream in FCP - is this an issue? Otherwise - I have tried a bunch of stuff, e.g. power line hum is negative in STP and there is very little underlying noise in the original recording based on analyzing with the Noise Reduction in STP.
Has anyone dealt with this issue or aware of a db/audio compatibility problem between STP and FCP or an export problem with FCP in this situation? Please let me know if anyone has any information or solutions. Thank you.

My export out of STP is 6 tracks - including a submix and a master - but I don't even use those (I'm not a seasoned user on STP - I basically exported them by mistake). I end up deleting 4 tracks (the submix and blank master) and keeping the stereo channel that I directly recorded.
However, by way of background, I had this same issue using a Garageband AIF file. It was too quiet and garbled upon export from FCP as well. That is why I switched to STP to use its better EQ/gain boosters. Please advise with any thoughts. Thanks.

  • Install DVD Pro After Final Cut Pro X

I have a new system on which I've installed Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5. I still have quite a bit of use for DVD Pro, however. Is it possible to install just the DVD Pro application on a disk that has Final Cut Pro X on it? Or is this going to muck with the new apps?
    Thanks,
    Dan

When has apple declared the DVD format dead, I certainly haven't heard it.
There is still a huge demand for DVD and will continue at least for another two years if not longer.
Unless there is a better alternative my business depends on DVD format.
    @Daniel02
You can custom install FCP studio, and have DVD studio pro installed,
However I haven't tried installing it after FCPX, but I do not envision a problem with it.

  • Black Magic vs. DVD Pro

At my place of work we have the Black Magic 10 Bit Capture cards. But somtimes when I use the blackmagic compressed mov files with DVD Studio Pro I come across interlacing problems after the DVD is burned and I view it back on an ordinary NTSC monitor. This happens almost every single time. The movie files are jumpy and glitchy during playback. Any thoughts on why this is? Is it because I'm importing the mov file straight into DVD Pro without using Compressor? Or could it be a DVD Pro or buring glitch?
What's the best kind of capture card/ compression that is best used with DVD Pro??
      Mac OS X (10.4.3)   DVD Pro 4

It could be a field order problem. Try switching the field order setting opposite from what its currently set to in Compressor. If Upper first, then try Lower, vice-versa. then encode your clip.

  • Just video no audio from Compressor 4 to DVD PRO-What's wrong

I have successfully sent my project from FCP7 to Compressor 4 and compressed it on Best Quality DVD 90 minutes. Once I bring in the file as an Asset in DVD PRO I just get the video part of the compression no audio. I also get a incompatible file pop up window sometimes. Any ideas on how I can solve these
2 problems. I have run out of ideas-this is the 4th or 5th day I have been working on these problems. Thanks.

no audio as in the ac3 file is in the DVDSP track but its silent ?
or you cant get Compressor to produce an ac3 file ?

  • FCP and DVD Pro burning glitch

Last week I created two files of a 2 1/2 meeting - making 2 files of 1 1/4 hours each. I successfully burned both on to two different DVD's and they both played on computers and DVD players. I did note a typographical error in the titles and repaired that and then went to burn the new file.
The new DVD will only play on the computer and not a DVD player.
I have now run disk utility to see if that will help.
    Here's the process I follow:
export to quicktime movie to qt folder. The settings for this are:
"current setting" (Instead of default) When I scroll through the settings there are no settings chosen.
The icon for the exported quicktime movie is not the icon I usually get when doing this process.
When importing the movie to DVD Pro the movie does not appear in the qt folder and it will not import. I can drag and drop onto the DVD Pro window and get the above results.
The file will burn in DVD Pro but will not play on a DVD player.
The files are stored on an external 1.4 TB hard drive.
    Thanks for any solutions
    Tom

Delete all render files associated with the sequence in question using the Render Manager found in the tools menu. OR select all clips in the timeline window, and right click to UN enalbe them then re enable them. After the following, then just do a couple of undo's to reconnect the sequence to the renders.
Then with the sequence selected in the Browser, choose file/export/using compressor. Select your preset there for the MPEG you need to make.
This will result in the best DVD you can make with Apple's software, and also keeps any render files out of the equation... they can be corrupt at times, and cause problems later.

  • Superdrive replaced, DVD-DL problem still exists (sorta)

I have a Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 ghz Intel Xeon - the machine shipped with a SONY superdrive up top, and I installed a Pioneer in the bottom slot.
The SONY drive was able to burn dual layer DVDs - I am using Memorex DVD+DL disks. The SONY drive was NOT able to read the DVD dual layer disks that I burned.
The disks are readable in all other machines in my house (All Macs)
I called Apple, they said this is a known issue, and I needed to swap out my superdrive. I just picked it up from the Apple store and it now has an OPTIARC AD 7170A drive, which I believe is a SONY as well.
I just tried burning a dual layer DVD with the newly replaced drive, and it worked fine the first time, however the verification failed. The 2nd dual layer DVD I tried to burn just plain failed - MEDIUM ERROR.
The drive CAN burn dual layer DVDs, but it CANNOT read them. The drive can read and burn DVDs no problem.
Why on earth would the brand new drive fail to read the dual layer DVDs, but everything else reads just fine???

I had very similar problems with the Sony OPTIARC drive in my 2007 Mac Pro (Intel Xeon, 10.4.11).
I found others having the same problems here with the OPTIARC and some said it was 2nd-rate quality. Also - I never liked the noise it made while burning, sounded "cheap."
I got the Samsung Internal DVD/CD 'Super-MultiDrive' DVD DL/CD w/LightScribe. From macsales.com ($29.95 USD). This unit requires you install Patch Burn (software) but runs fine, no more "coasters" from any format DVD, including DVD-R DL (but never tried DVD+R DL). After testing, bought a 2nd one for the lower bay.
The Samsung unit comes with a plastic front (bezel) which must be removed to fit properly. This is easy & quick: illustrated instructions on the macsales.com website.
I wanted the Lightscribe labeling system: no fuss & bother with design / printing labels. Burn DVD, flip it over, launch Lightscribe, enter text in"Edit mode" - click "Print" and 3-4 minutes later your DVD is labeled.
I do wish I could find a way to get both drives working at once (i.e., labeling two DVDs at once, burning two at once). Otherwise: completely satisfied.
