DVD pro work flow/ main video reading chapter markers

I figured out how the work flow work and how to get chapters and all that. However now my main video is reading the chapters and is stopping on one of the chapter makers. Can anyone give me an Idea what I should do now?

Check that chapter marker for end jump actions... if there are none set (and never were any) then delete the marker and add it again in a slightly different location. Check playback - if it is OK, nudge the new marker back to the correct location and check again...
If there are any end jump actions, remove them!

  • DVD Audio Problem in main video

I have a 94 minute video clip that i am try to burn to dvd; however, when I burn the project i get a dvd that all the menu's work but the main video only has audio for the first 15 minutes and last 5 minutes. The video has been encoded to a quicktime .mov file with chapter information attached in quick time pro. I have tried all three encoding preferences, "best performance", "high quality", and "professional" all three gave me the same results. I have deleted the idvd project and redoing the whole thing 2 times. I have tried re-encoding the video once. I have also removed my preferences and started with a new preference file (.plist file for my user account). After two dvd's being wasted on this i have been encoding and saving the dvd's as dvd images to test before burning if that helps. So far I have been unable to locate my problem and fix it if anyone has any ideas or has experienced the same problem before and fixed it I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Thanks, after looking at that forum i found a link to another that had my question answered, i found that for some reason it does not like burning .mov files it only will burn .mp4, i found this out after re-installing quick time, encode the move two other times using .mov container and apple intermediate codex, kind-of bummed me out though i did not get anywhere near as high quality as the original with quality set a professional. Oh well guess i should look at upgrading to the pro app.

  • Soundtrack Pro Work Flow

Can anybody share their work flow. I'm doing titles in LiveType, editing in FCP, scoring in Logic and final mix in Soundtrack Pro. I am having a difficult time finding a natural flow. Any advice would be appreciated. If there is already a thread on this, please guide me in the right direction. Thx.

That's what I was thinking. How can I get the video to play on my external monitor via Logic?
Logic uses quicktime to play the video so whatever quicktime can do, logic can do. If the movie is DV format for eg you can play it out via firewire. There's a setting in logic to to "play via firewire" (or something). I think its in the song settings under the video section. I haven't got Logic handy to check. If you do a quick search in the manual or help guide it'll be in there.
If you have decent video I/O interface you can be watching full HD 1080p uncompressed movies on a plasma screen with logic if you want. Obviously that will put a huge strain on your computer though and not really advisable! As a rough 'n' ready solution I once used a cheap camcorder connected to a tv (analogue) with a firewire cable connected to my computer. Logic played my dv movie to the tv ok but I noted the picture was delayed a few frames. Its worth checking the sync and for this reason its always useful to have "burned in timecode" on the picture. You can adjust picture sync in Logic via a slider (song settings again I think). Its worth double checking everything is as it should be before you start work proper. Once its all set up right I find things work very well.
You should not have any issues with sync when the movie is on your computer monitor and that is a significant advantage. I've seen folk use a second computer monitor for their movie for this reason.

  • Final Cut Pro won't let me add Chapter Markers

I am editing a long video and have edited several chapter markers to it so far.  All of a sudden when I try to make a Chapter Marker, a window comes up saying "You must make a selection in order to perform this operation".   ???  I have no clue what has happened.   Has anybody else had this problem?

    Never had this message.
Sincw you've done this successfully before, you know that you need to make the TL window active (not select the clips), then hit M twice to get a dialogue box and designate the marker as a chapter marker.
If that's what you're doing and still are getting this message, please post a screen shot on your sequence with markers.

  • Replacing video with chapter markers

I had finished a DVD with 25 chapters, then the client wanted some minor audio changes. I will make the changes in FCP and exort a new movie to import into IDVD. Is there anyway to save the menu from the first version? And, when importing the new version will it simply replace the old. Obviously, I've never tried this before...successfully. Any thoughts?

just start a new iDVD6 project and use a different name than the first. this will retain both files on the same system.

  • DVD Studio Pro skipping / freeze frame on chapter markers

I'm getting a freeze frame / hiccup on all chapter markers.... I export as quicktime (with DSP markers) from FCP to keep GOP info.... still hiccups... set end jumps to not set.... still hiccups....
I found a few threads about media quality, do I need "duplicate grade" discs for burning masters or something...?
Most direct to market DVD's that I've tested have a fade to black at beginning and end of all chapters (I'm assuming as a workaround for this issue) the only DVD I can find that has seamless chapter transitions is a major studio released DVD "Usual Suspects"
I've been scouring the web for days now and am not finding a solution... I've tried with multiple tracks, single tracks, multiple asset files, single asset files.... all with the same result... same in simulation as on burned DVD...
Help me Obi-Wan your'e my only hope....
    Best,
    -J

I suspect that what you are referring to is not actual chapter markers. Every DVD I have ever seen has seamless chapter markers, no transitions. In fact I've never seen a dvd that fades to black at the chapter marker. Are you really referring to menus or perhaps tracks?

  • TS1233 How do I get chapter markers for iDVD from Final Cut Pro X?

It seems like a tremendous short-coming that Final Cut Pro X doesn't allow for chapter markers that can be used in iDVD or DVD Pro. Surely there is some way to get used-defined markers from Final Cut Pro X or at least re-define the Final Cut Pro X markers in the DVD authoring applications. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have decided to say that my problem is solved by the work-a-rounds that have been submitted. I STILL don't like the fact tha Apple has decided that DVD's are a thing of the past and therefore (chapter) markers are of no use. That may be true is the publishing world of YouTube, Vimeo, etc. but it certainly NOT true for many of us advanced hobbyists that still like distribution on DVD's to our friends or a more localized (private) community -- especially to those who are not computer literate. If Apple wants to exclude us from their customer base, I suggest that base will become even smaller than their competitors who still have chapter markers in their products. I'll get off my soapbox now. . .

  • FCP 6 doesn't seem to export chapter markers in a QT movie

    Hi,
New user of Mac and FCP 6 here. I've constructed my sequence in FCP 6, adding the appropriate chapter marks (which show up fine in FCP 6). I then Export my sequence to a self-contained QT movie, making sure that in the Save dialog "Marker" is set to "All Markers". If I now render the QT movie and bring it into either Compressor or DVD Studio Pro; the chapter markers are now gone.
After trying for several hours in FCP 6 to export different ways, I never could get Compressor or DVD Studio Pro to find the markers. I eventually gave up and manually reentered them into Compressor. When Compressor was complete, I brought its m2v and ac3 files into DVD Studio Pro. Lo and behold the chapter markers were still there.
Being a novice to FCP 6, do I have a setting somewhere that is preventing me from exporting markers? Or could this be a bug due to my workflow.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Mike

I've been wondering about this for the last couple of days. Lately my QT exports of my FCP sequences have not been retaining their chapter markers. They are fine for DVDSP, but not for Quicktime DV or even mp4 or m4v files that would normally contain them previously. What's going on here?
Sending friends and family my videos, I want to give them the option of selecting from the list of chapters in the video. I feel like I've wasted time putting the chapters in when they don't show up for the folks who play them.

  • Chapter Markers, why aren't they importing

I'm using the latest versions of DVDSP and FCP and I'm sort of at a standstill over an incredibly basic thing.
In my FCP sequences, I have created Chapter Markers for my movies. I have exported the FCP sequences using File/Export/Quicktime Movie, and in the options area I have selected All Markers.
When I open the exported movies in Quicktime, I am able to see that my Chapters are there.
Then, I then run Compressor on my various movies, again the latest version. In Compressor, I select the two buttons under Extras that enable me to Import DVD Studio Pro Meta Data and also Chapter Markers Only.
Then, in DVD Studio Pro, I see nothing. No Chapter Markers. I would appreciate any insight into what I'm missing here. Thank you in advance.

In my FCP sequences, I have created Chapter Markers for my movies. I have exported the FCP sequences using File/Export/Quicktime Movie, and in the options area I have selected All Markers.
    This is method is incorrect.
In FCP's Export QuickTime Movie Export dialog, you should select DVD Studio Pro Markers in order for the metadata to be written correctly - chapter info on the 2nd of 2 text tracks of a QT movie - for DVDSP. (the 1st of the 2 text tracks contains the primary DVDSP metadata that allows both Compressor and DVDSP to parse chapters for you)
By selecting All Markers you're writing all metadata and chapter info to a single text track in your QT movie in a way that neither DVDSP and Compressor can parse for chapter markers.
In Compressor, I select the two buttons under Extras that enable me to Import DVD Studio Pro Meta Data and also Chapter Markers Only.
No, select one or the other.
Include Chapter Markers only will allow your .m2v to be compatible with other authoring apps.
Add DVD Studio Pro Meta-data will restrict your .m2v to DVDSP but - provided you export directly from Final Cut Pro (File > Export > Using Compressor) or Export a QuickTime Movie with DVD Studio Pro Markers embedded - Compressor places an I-frame on every cut made in an FCP Timeline. It also places an I-frame at the start and end of every (video) transition applied. This is, of course, in addition to placing I-frames at every Chapter or Compression marker that you've placed.

  • Why Chapter Markers doesn't jump anymore after updates ?

    Hi all experts out there,
I am faced with a weird problem ...
I use iDvd to create some DVD, the menus & chapters all works fine & perfect. The chapter markers jumped correctly to correct chapters.
Then I wanna make some simple amendment to the movie (ie I wanna add some text to the movie). So I went back to Final Cut and re-render it with the Chapter Markers checked as before. I renamed it as the same file.
Then I went back to iDvd, when I opened it, it is very smart, it detects a new updated file & asked me if I wanna UPDATE. So I click the update button. Very good, all the chapters are still intact, the names for all chapters are also intact, the movie is also updated with the new text.
The only thing that didn't work is that when I click on the Chapter in the Scene Selection, it doesn't jump, it always goes back to the beginning of the video.
Then I re-render again the Final Cut again & try again. This time when I select the Chapter, it always go back to Chapter 2.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

Can someone help me with the above, please ? I ran out of ideas

    Thanks

  • Is it possible to get Chapter Markers out of FCPX?

It seems like a tremendous short-coming that Final Cut Pro X doesn't allow for chapter markers that can be used in iDVD or DVD Pro. Surely there is some way to get used-defined markers from Final Cut Pro X or at least re-define the Final Cut Pro X markers in the DVD authoring applications. Does anyone know how to do this?

I couldn't figure out any way to do this. A workaround I used was to send to Compressor, add chapter markers there, and burn a DVD from Compressor (with a very limited menu), or export media from FCP X and import into iMovie to add chapter marks, then send to iDVD.
I agree that lack of DVD publishing support is a tremendous shortcoming of FCP X.

  • Unable to export chapter markers

Usually in Final Cut Pro I have no problem exporting a finished video with chapter markers. However, when I go to File >> Export >> QuickTime Movie, the fields titled "Include" and "Markers" are different. "Include" says "Auto" instead of "Video & Audio", and "Markers" says "Quarter" instead of "Chapter".
Why would it do this? I simply restarted FCP and it is back to normal. But I dont understand why it would do this.

  • Trouble compressing with Chapter Markers

I have a very large (136 gigs) 10 bit uncompressed quicktime of a 17 minute movie. Knowing that DVD Studio Pro will only let me place chapter markers on I frames, I brought my quicktime into final cut and placed 5 chapter markers exactly where I want them. I've now tried to export that quicktime with DVD Studio Pro markers and then compress into an MPEG-2 in Compressor. I've also exported with chapter markers and then compressed into an MPEG-2. I've also tried sending my sequence straight to Compressor and, using one of the tabs, "maintained DVD Studio Pro meta-data." No matter what, every time that I bring my final compressed MPEG-2 into DVD Studio Pro, the chapter markers do not appear. Any thoughts? Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to the Boards
When you open the movie in QuickTime are you seeing the markers? Have you tired using Export -> Chapter Markers (not DVD SP Markers?)

  • Trouble with ATV and Alternate Audio Tracks / Chapter Markers

So I decided to "treat myself" and I got an ATV earlier this week. I for a long time have kept my movies and TV shows organized inside iTunes, and ATV seemed like the logical extension of that so that I don't have to sit hunched in front of my computer to get easily accessed media.
That being said, I've been reencoding a lot of my content for a higher-quality stream for my TV. And I'm encountering a few problems.
I'm using the newest Snapshot Build of Handbrake (which is pretty great) to create my files. I'm ripping them using the ATV preset, slightly modified:
    - H264
    - .mv4
    - 3000kbps
    - 2-pass encoding (turbo 1st pass)
    - Native anamorphic resolution
    - AC3 Dolby Pro Logic II mixdown
    - AC3 Passthru
    - Chapter Markers
The encoded file is passed through MetaX to add complete metadata and label the chapters. Then the file is stored on an external hard drive attached to my laptop, and added into the iTunes library (while remaining on the external HD, not copied into the iTunes Music folder).
And I end up with a great quality file that looks fantastic on my TV. However, I'm having some problems. I have no options for alternate audio or chapter selection on the ATV. If I open the files up in Quicktime, it has the options right there, plain as day, but they're nowhere to be found on the ATV.
The only thing I can think of is that it's because I'm streaming the files, not storing them locally on the ATV, but I can't find any yay or nay on that and I'm not quite sure why that would make a difference.
Can anybody lend a hand on figuring this out?

I tried to follow what you are saying but not enough information here. I can only tell you that using HB on .m2t files or mpeg2 files user must uncheck Chapters in HB preferences to be able to use Chapters forward and back with the Apple remote and ATV.
I know this does not address your problem but may give you some insight to help. When ripping I do check box chapter markers. Maybe its MetaX doing the problem I don't use that software.

  • Export to AppleTV via Compressor, Chapter Markers Wrong

I'm exporting various projects out to AppleTV via Compressor with Chapter Markers. Works great except for the Chapter Markers, which are out of sync...significantly, by 30 seconds or so. Any ideas on what the problem might be or how to ensure Chapter Markers will transfer over to the AppleTV setting in compressor?

So this is a Compressor-specific issue, right?
What I mean to say is, if you're exporting QT movies out of FCP, those do not exhibit the shift in chapter markers, correct? Just trying to determine if FCP/QT is the culprit here.
Or are you exporting directly to Compressor? Or adding the chapter markers directly in Compressor?
