DVD protection, CS3 on MAC CS4 on PC

Ok for some reason I can not burn DVDs on CS3 on the Mac if I check off to add DVD Protection '0 copies allowed'. Will CS4 on the PC allow it? I am tired of all the things you can't do on Mac with adobe and am thinking to switch back to PC. I need to add protection to my DVDs which took over a month to design, and prefer doing it myself instead of sending it out to a distibution/duplicator. Any help would be great.

Regardless of PC, or Mac, there is zero protection on any burned DVD. Only with replication can one do Copy Protection. No way around this.
If you do go the replication route, make sure to get all specs. from them, before you send them a "master," or more likely a DLT.
If you are burning, turn all Copy Protection OFF.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Cross upgrade Windows CS3 to Mac CS4.

    Hello,
I am new in this forum.
I want to upgrade my old Window CS3 to Mac CS4. Does anybody here had this kind of upgrade? If yes. How long did take you to get the upgrade from the customer service?

I have a good friend who wanted to crossgrade Adobe's applications from Windows to Mac. Here's a quote:
Our senior editor, Kathleen, has been trying to do a platform change/upgrade request on our CS3 Production Bundle since APRIL, and has been getting nothing but a runaround from the published customer service entities. Two case numbers, 8 phone calls, promised call backs from supervisors that never appear, lost faxes, the eternal circle of handoffs (you need to talk to sales/no, sales can't help you, please talk to customer service/wash, rinse, repeat) --- you name it, and not one helpful person in the mix. It's been two and one half months. Meantime, they have our shipping money and we have an outdated bundle for the incorrect platform for our current needs.
Honestly, I'm not inclined to bash a company's support without being given good reason, but this has to be one of the most frustrating experiences I've seen with any tech company, anytime. In my editing career I've never had to make a posting like this. Can anyone point us in a better direction, or if you have a contact behind the "hold-music curtain", forward them this email.
This was published on June 29th, 2009.
Here was the solution, which was posted July 9th, 2009:
Longtime list friend L. W. had the best suggestion though -- he forwarded my complaint to his friend Simon, a top executive in charge of video/film (dynamic) media applications at Adobe. I'm happy to say that the attitude towards customer service at this level is excellent, and within hours Simon initiated a review of our case which resulted in our getting the long-promised software yesterday -- and this case has started a dialogue within the company to avoid problems like this in the future. I think this proactive approach to accountability at the highest levels says good things about Adobe for the future. Thank you, Simon. The business world needs many more like you.
Apparently Simon was not able to make any real changes inside the Adobe Support bureaucracy...

  • Just upgraded from windows cs3 to mac cs4 - preferences, fonts, etc to cs4?

could someone explain how to make the mac CS4 work like the windows CS3 - thanks in advance

"... the first step should probably be to save and transfer any customized
presets like Brushes, Gradients, Patterns, Styles, Actions, … to the
new machine and store them in the appropriate Presets-folders."
I did exactly that, and the only trouble I had was that some of my older brushes no longer worked. When I moved from CS3 to CS 4 it was in both formats, and I literally use the same brushes, custom shapes, gradients, and actions in OS X and Windows Vista. The only difference between the two is that on the Mac, my brush list (about 900 or so) loads in a single scrolable column. In Windows, it loads in row after row until it runs out of screen about the time it gets to the M's and I have to manually load anything beyond that. Which is why I prefer to do my photoshopping on the Mac.

  • Have Windows CS3, now I want Mac CS4

Hey, basically the title says it all.. I bought CS3 for windows in 2007, and now I want to upgrade to CS4, but I don't have a windows computer anymore, I only have a Mac.  So is there anyway to upgrade from my windows cs3 to mac cs4 without having to buy a whole new product?  I've heard rumors you can, but I haven't had any luck yet, I was hoping for some help here, thanks!

  • Cut/Paste from Word to Illustrator CS3 for Mac suddenly not working

This issue regards Illustrator CS3 for Mac on a Mac Pro with 6 GB.
Exactly one week ago I created a number of Illustrator files by cutting charts from a Word 2008 document and pasting them into an Illustrator document.
In the past I have dragged the images (or clip art) or simply used Control-C or even Control-X, but by whatever method I opted for, getting the image from Word to Illustrator CS3 has not been a problem.
Yesterday I got a new chart and a request to replace an old image - one that I had created last week on Tuesday by the Drag/Drop or Cut/Paste method.   For reasons I can't begin to imagine the process simply won't work now.
I also find that if I simply select text in a Word Document, hit Ctrl-C and then try a Ctrl-V in Illustrator I don't get to see my text pasted in - ONLY if I already have a text block open and the cursor in place will I get to see the text copied over into Illustrator.  This is very strange and not at all how things have worked in the past - typically I would see the new Text Object just appear, and then I could move it to wherever I wanted.
I have opened up a number of old files that I know were created with copied text and also opened the associated Word files (earlier versions of Word) and again find that I can't copy text over, or even move images over - even though I clearly could do this before.  I have also tried entirely new files - also with no success.
I was at an Apple one-to-one session this morning and they were more than mystified by this.  I can Cut and Paste into Adobe Photoshop Elements, but I can't even cut and paste from Adobe Photoshop Elements into Illustrator CS3.   I can drag the Photoshop file (from the Finder window) into the Illustrator document and poof - get my image that way, but it's as an image only.  If the base image in question is a vector image or something else having a plurality of elements, I can't then select the elements in Illustrator to change their color, delete them, or otherwise play with them.
I have brought up a word document on another Mac system that also has Illustrator CS3 and find that it too can't drag/drop cut/paste between the two applications.   At Apple, we did confirm that such ability is operational in the new Illustrator CS4, but none of their store systems still have CS3 to provide yet a third system to test.
I have deleted my Illustrator CS3 preferences, tried flushing the p-ram, and of course run fix and repair permissions - no dice.
My Mac systems update daily and there is nothing in the main update log that shows anything for Adobe or Office (nor do I think there should be).  Adobe Update reports that everything is up to date, and I don't see a history file to know what might have changed in the last week.   Office also reports fully up to date and happy.
As I can cut and paste the images into an email for Mail and into Photoshop, I am fairly certain that it is NOT a Microsoft Office 2008 issue.  The fact that another Mac with Illustrator CS3 also can't cut and paste suggests that is is really not something personal to my main system.
It is almost as if this is some clandestine "update" intended to encourage me to buy Illustrator CS4.  Given that I bought Illustrator CS3 less than a year ago, I really am not eager to buy the new version.   The greeting on the Adobe Support page that CS3 is no longer the current version and therefore supported was most annoying.
I am really hoping that someone out there has an idea of what to try changing, removing and/or adjusting with respect to Adobe Illustrator CS3.

I tried the Select by Path option - can't believe I missed it - and found it made no difference.
I actually uninstalled and reinstalled the whole app.  When I tried to simply re-install (can't remember it's exact phrase) it got part way through and then demanded another disk - but I only have one DVD with the application - the extra DVD is for tutorials and it didn't accept that one either.  So I restarted that process and chose to completely uninstall.  Then reinstalled - hey with only my one disk - gee, just like the first time.   And then it seemed to work.
I was not aware of the save as PDF option - but yes I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 for Mac so that option is there - and it seems to work too.
There were of course a slue of updates, and I let them all proceed - but even with them all in place the system is fine and I can once again drag and drop / cut and paste things back and forth.   I just tried a text block and "The Quick Brown Fox" pasted in with a clipping mask about 10 times the size of the document, but other than that it was ok.
So I have things working again on my primary system.   Will try and figure out what's wrong with the other one - but a reinstall might be the easiest game there too.

  • Replace PS CS3 with PS CS4

A simple question (sorry to be a bother):  my civic organization has Adobe CS3 running on a Mac intel system, OS-X 10.5.  We want to do a full install (not an upgrade) of Photoshop CS4, but we will replace only Photoshop CS3 and none of the other CS3 programs.  Do we need to first uninstall Photoshop CS3, or can we effectively install PS CS4 right on top of PS CS3?

I have always (until this most recent upgrade) installed the new build and left the previous in place until I was sure I no longer needed it. With the large number of brushes, shapes, gradients, and filters I use, I can't take a chance on losing the ability to create or edit a client's project while a third party developer catches up.
One of the things I've loved about Mac since I first switched in 2003 is the fact that it can run multiple builds of the same application side by side (even if not always at the same time). At one point I had Photoshop 7, CS and CS2 all running on my G5 iMac.
If the DVD of CS3 hadn't become corrupted, I'd still have it installed alongside CS4 now.

  • Opening InDesign CS3 documents in CS4

I am hoping someone from Adobe can help me with this question. Here is the scenario:
I work on the support team in a prepress environment where we get hundreds of client supplied InDesign files weekly. Some clients supply their files in InDesign CS3 and some supply the files in InDesign CS4. We have both applications.
From our experience, we have found that if we open a InDesign CS3 document using InDesign CS4, there is a potential for items to disappear in the document. I don't know what changed from 3 to 4 to cause this problem. This has happened to us more than one time and we have experienced money losses due to on press errors.
One would say, as we have, if the document is supplied in InDesign CS3, work on it in InDesign CS3. Easy enough, right?
Well, not really. If you have CS3 and CS4 both installed on your mac at the same time, simply double-clicking on the file will default to CS4 (since it is newer).
We have told our operators that they need to identify what version the file was created in; which is not the easiest thing either.
If you "get info" on the file, you do not get accurate information. It may say "CS4", even if it is "CS3", I think this is because your system is reading what the newest application that you have install is.
I have found that by dragging the file over the CS3 icon in the doc, it will attempt to open the file in CS3 and if it truly is a CS4 document, you will get plugin errors and the file won't open. This works, but my 38 mac operators are so used to just double-clicking a file to open it, they sometimes forget to do it my way, and thats when we get errors.
Is there a plugin available that would prompt you, when double -clicking on a file as to what version it is, or what version InDesign that you would like to open the file in?
What did Adobe change in InDesign CS4 that would cause items to disappear or change when working on CS3 documents in CS4?
    Thank you in advance.

First, this is a user forum, not an official Adobe support site, so you aren't talking to Adobe employees for the most part.
Second, though it is subtle, there is a visible difference between the icons for file created in CS3 and CS4, but you do need to look.
There is (or perhaps it's now "was") a known issue with master items disappearing when placing one ID file into another in CS4. Be sure your copies are updated to the latest patch. Another reason to avoid opening CS3 files in CS4 is potential differences in text flow due to text engine differences which will affect how lines break.
If you want to train your people in a hurry, tell them the next time you have to re-run a job because they opened it in the wrong version you'll deduct the cost from their pay.

  • Reinstalled CS3 on Mac 10.6.8 after major crash. ID doc created in CS3 v5 won't open

Reinstalled CS3 on Mac 10.6.8 after major crash. ID doc created in CS3 v5 won't open

Problem solved. It helps to use CS5 to open a CS5 document. When you use the right key, the door opens. Lesson: Don't store installation discs of inactive versions with installation discs of current versions.

  • Opening CS3 file in CS4 - fonts wrong!

I have an FLA created in CS3 (Mac). It includes a couple of
fonts that were made into symbols. I'm both using those symbols to
set the font for dynamic text boxes on stage in various symbols (by
selecting the font-name-with-asterisk from the font menu), and in
    Actionscript to create text.
When I open the file in CS4, wherever I have used the menu
option (selecting the font with asterisk in its name), when I
select the box the font menu is showing a DIFFERENT font. And when
I publish none of that text shows up!
The font names with asterisks are still in the font list, but
now they're in a separate section separated by a line from the
    regular font list.
I'm not sure what to do - am I stuck using CS3 for the life
of this file? I'm not even sure how many text fields are in this
document, scattered among a number of symbols. If it was just a few
I could probably just manually re-select the font for each. I mean,
I assume I could do that...?
Is there a global find/replace option to fix this? Is this a
    known bug?
    - Bob

I'm sorry to say this, but you're stuck with CS3. This also
happened to me and I couldn't solve it by now.

  • Printing problems with InDesign CS3 with Mac OS 10.6.3

I am not new to InDesign... I have CS3... but I am brand new to Mac Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.3).  Although I can open CS3 and use the application, I cannot print with it.  None of my other applications has printing issues... just CS3.  Any suggestions?
    Richard

    Hi again Peter
It is version 5.0.4.  I updated it when I newly installed it a week ago in my new computer, and then again updated it just yesterday.
I might mention that before I got my new computer, I was running Mac OS 4.11, and was using InDesign 3.0.  I had bought InDesign CS3 about a year ago, but hadn't gotten around to using it since version 3.0 had been working fine, and I was used to it.  Then, when I got my new computer, I decided it was time to use the newer version.  However, while using InDesign 3.0 with the old Mac OS 4.11, a printing problem popped up there, too, a few months ago... and it also involved printing problems with Adobe Reader.  I contacted Adobe, and they sent me a patch which fixed it.  I will contact Adobe again if need be, although I thought I'd start here first to see if it was a common enough problem that someone might be able to provide a free and routine answer.

I neglected to ask what version of indesign CS3 you are using. I also
notice that Mac OSX 10.6.4 has just been released. It actually
addresses some CS3-specific issues, though they seem to be related to
launching the apps, not printing. It may be worth trying to update,
    nonetheless.

  • DW CS3 for Mac won't save or upload

I've been using Dreamweaver CS3 for Mac lately, and have been
able to upload quite a few pages already. Today, however, I was
uploading a vital page but would constantly get the following
    message:
"An FTP error occurred - cannot get remote folder
information. Dreamweaver encountered an internal data error. Please
    try the operation again."
Is it because last night I happened to turn on my Firewall
and turn off my Personal File Sharing and Personal Web Sharing?
However, I've since turned off the Firewall again, and turned on
Personal File Sharing and Personal Web Sharing. Dreamweaver still
    gives the same message above.
Do I have to reboot? Problem is, I can't save the html file I
just did, and it was a heck of a job. Don't tell me I have to do it
    all over again?
Or is it because I deleted quite a few duplicate files from
my local site through my Finder? But I've been doing that before,
one file at a time, and this never happened.

Is it because last night I happened to turn on my Firewall
    Most likely, yes.

Copy the code from DW and paste it into Notepad. Save it.
    WAIT - are you
saying you are editing directly on the server? Why can't you
    save it?

  • FTP transfers hang in CS3 for Mac/10.5.4

This is a topic that has been continually raised on this
forum, but never fully solved. I am using Dreamweaver CS3 on Mac OS
    10.5.4.
When making a connection to my site's host, the client
connects properly, several files are transferred, then the
connection hangs as Dreamweaver continually tries to upload a file,
but is unsuccessful. This occurs while uploading different pages
with different files. The hang occurs after a few seconds of
    activity.
For the record, I have tried both passive and non-passive
transfers, I am not operating behind a firewall, I have altered the
connection timeout settings from everything between 3 seconds to
120 seconds (60 is default). My site uses a fixed IP address and
the problem occurs both on my desktop (Mac Pro) and my laptop
(Macbook Pro) in different locations with different networks.
Background: Dreamweaver MX had this problem, CS2 fixed it,
    CS3 has broken it again:
    Dreamweaver
    FTP problem
Fact: Using the exact same connection settings in Transmit,
the transfers have no problem. Dreamweaver CS2 does not have this
problem, either on Mac or PC.
It's time that Adobe got serious about fixing this. When a
thread exists with 80+ messages of complaint and there is no
    resolution, there is a problem.
If anyone can shed light on this, it would be most
    appreciated.

Ok, first off that thread was solved from what I read. The
original poster had an issue where they could only connect to their
server via IP address and not the domain name in 10.5.0 and 10.5.1.
They were told to fix the DNS and that the 10.5.2 update solved the
issue from Apple's end when it was released. This is now 10.5.4 so
this problem should be gone from the original poster because that
topic was started in October of last year.
Next, Mac does have a firewall by default like Windows. Look
in the System Preferences->Security->Firewall. Set it to
allow all incoming connections (basically off).
Next, have you gone through the FTP troubleshooting steps?
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14834
If you have not gone through those at this point I would
highly recommend starting there. This will eliminate the cause a
bit more. Also on the Mac platform, I do not believe that I have
ever seen DW transfer successfully when Passive FTP is turned off
due to the Mac firewall, so I would recommend leaving that checked
while you test through the above KB article.
If you continue to have issues with the FTP after going
through those steps please post back with the progress.
And one other note. Adobe does not normally check these
forums. If you do require advanced support Adobe does have contact
information which can be found from the link at the top of these
forums (and every page of the site if I am not mistaken).
And lastly, as a suggestion I would recommend downloading the
    CS4 beta (
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/dreamweavercs4/
). All you need to run it past the 2-day limit is your CS3 serial
number. If something is broken in that version you would be more
likely to see it patched before the release as opposed to CS3 which
is on its way out. Also on that page you will find a link to the
CS4 forums which Adobe does check for bugs being that it is a beta
    product.

You are prevented from Airplay mirroring certain things like DVD content as the material is usually protected so you get a checkerboard type display.  I think there is a theoretical risk that the Airplay stream could be intercepted and the protected video copied, albeitin lower quality.
Apple may be being cautious or are required to do so with the DVD player app by movie studios/licensing authorities.  It makes no sense to the average consumer who is just trying to send their purchased DVD to the TV via the computer and AppleTV.
Playback in something like VLC should work - not tried it myself but others have commented it doesn't have the restriction.
