DVD Quality and Screen Image Size Issue

When I export an iPhoto slide show to a QuickTime movie (.mov), the result is a beautiful, high quality full screen movie, when played on my iMac. When I use that same slide show in iDVD, and burn a DVD, the quality of the slide show is not as sharp and it is not full screen. Are there some settings I can use to correct this? Is there a later version of iDVD that would correct this? Or is there some non-Apple software that will do a better job? Thanks.
NJZ
Using OSX 10.5.8, iPhoto 8.1.2, iDVD 7.0.4.

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico: http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie 6 as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!

    Hello Michael.
Hopefully this support article is what you need:
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+will+not+start
In any case, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.
Also, if you want to use an older version of Firefox, please use Firefox 3.5.11. Only versions 3.5.11 and 3.6.8 are supported, and both contain all the latest security fixes. Using any other version is unsafe and not recommended.

  • Imac screen image size fluctuates then turns off

imac screen image size fluctuates then turns off. I have an Imac G3 (slot drive/Grape). It is running on OS 9.2 and I believe has 288 MB Ram.It started acting very odd yesterday. First, I noticed that the image on the screen had shrunken in on the sides and was elongated up and down. I restarted and when it came up the image still wasn't right, but it wasn't as out of proportion. I ran norton and first aid which both said everything was fine. By this time the image had stretched out to its normal size. I printed a couple of things and shut it down. This morning I started it up to have a look and the image was all shrunken and stretched again. The image started pulsating then the mac shut off. A few minutes later it started up again on its own so I turned it off. Until yesterday my Mac had been working just fine. Any ideas about what this is or what to do about it? Thanks for the help.
    Charlotte

The fact that it is starting up on its own either means that it is scheduled to, or that there is some problem with the power supply, which as far as I can tell, would cause the monitor to do that.

  • Promoted Links Tile Background Image Size Issue

I am brand new to using sharepoint and I am having an issue with the images attached to the promoted link tiles.  No matter what size I change the file too, I can not get the tile to show the whole pictures.
I have tried changing the image size for multiple different pictures in both photoshop and illustrator to 128px and 150px, with no luck!
Does anyone have any advice on how to make the pictures fit in the tiles or how to start with an illustrator or indesign image and format it correctly to display in the tile view?
As many details as possible will help since I just started using this program!
    Thank you!

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is the promoted link tile can’t show the whole image.
By default, When image with a blank space around, it would be transformed properly in promote link tile, I suggest you modify the image to make it with blank space around.
For about modifying image, I suggest you post a question to the corresponding forum such as Photoshop forum:

Feel free to reply if there are still any questions.

  • 6.0.3 Error During Disc Initialization for both DVD+R and Disc Image - Help

I've been a mac user for a few years now, but I just bought a new MacBook, and my first superdrive! I'm all excited to test out the new hardware along with iDVD.
I've made a rather simple DVD setup and the first time through it was encoding for about an hour and then it gave an error message which I don't recall other than it mentioned QT7. I ran updater, no new updates that I needed and I tried again, and from then on I've been getting the Error During Disc Initialization message when burning to my DVD+Rs or when I try and save as a disc image (yes, I've deleted the encoding assets). I have about 20GB free on HDD, and I'm trying to burn approx. 100min of video. I've rebooted multiple times, and I've remade my project a couple times but no dice.
    Any idears?
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    What hardware do you have???
You didn't answer Sue's question about free space on
your start-up drive. You should have 20GB+ free.
What are you sending to iDVD?
Verbatim DVD-R, not DVD+R, are very reliable, unlike
    TDK and Memorex.
    Also look here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302925
I am running on a 2.0 ghz MacBook with a SuperDrive using Sony DVD+R. I will definitely pick up some Verbatim DVD-Rs though to see if that makes iDVD happy.
I have cleared up some room and now I have around 50GB free.
I am trying to make a DVD of two seperate .mp4s of a soccer game. I have 3 pictures and two buttons.

  • Pan and Zoom/Image Size

I have tried the pan and zoom (Ken Burns Effect) in iPhoto 08 but have been struck by the following problems:
    1. With the image slider moved all the way to the left, I cannot move an image left-right/right-left to isolate a particular area for a pan start or finish. I can solely move an image up and down.
    2. In order to do any panning, I have to zoom into the image. What this means is that to pan I have to do some zooming, i.e., I have to start with a close up of the subject(s) right from the git-go and starting with a close up eliminates areas of the original image. This is not good.
    2. My images in the editor (monitor)are complete large in size, i.e. they take up a good portion of the monitor real estate. I thought that reducing photo resolution/image size to 640x480/72dpi would solve the problem but it didn't. I am still encountering the same limited pan ability.
I build very large and extensive slide shows and I now know the limitations regarding music and sound inherent in iLife but I was not expecting a limitation in image presentation capabilities as well.
Just for comparisons sakes, I have used Photoshop Elements 6 (the Organizer) to build slide shows and have not encountered these problems at all.
At any rate, am I doing something wrong in iPhoto 08?
Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

Thank you both for your replies. I will definatley try both suggestions. With the cropping, panning and zooming what i am trying to do is this. On a image in previous version of photo elements you were able to select cropping when making a slide show. What I would do is select the image, select cropping. Then I would select a square or rectangular area where the image would start appearing. Then the next select area (square or rectangular) would be where the image would end up at in that. Its was kind of a start & end point for an image. Then to add to this affect you could fade in to the first "cropping selection"so to speak and then fade out in the second "cropping selection". Then your slide show moves to the next image. All in all the transition between photos are a fade in & out affect, whilst the cropping feature let you pick areas of the photo that you wanted to highlight. You could select a small square or rectangle and the image would fade in "out of focus" but the second selected cropping point would be larger and the image ends up in focus.
I hope this makes sense!!!  Anyway Steve I will try your suggestion and see how I go!
    Thank you

  • Finding and changing image size in a  Layer

    I am using CS4 on a Windows 7 platform.
I am creating a collage of several photos. I want to see and adjust the size of just the one photo on the layer I am working with. When I look at Image Size it shows the whole size, based on the background size. Example: My background is 16T x 20W. On layer 4 have a photograph and I want the maximum width to be 3.5 inches.
My question is: Is there somewhere I can go into a dialogue, set the size on whatever side I want, and have it resize automatically, rather than me doing it manually and using the rulers to do it?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
    BAZ

    Thanks for responding
Somehow I got into that before (in my search) and now for the dumb user question: I see that is in pixels, any way to get inches? Yes, I'm one of those, sorry.
Also, I was looking for a way to put in the size I wanted on the one side and have it automatically do the other. This appears to need percentages, not exact numbers. Am I missing something?
Thanks again for your response...I'll be back at you.

  • Diminished color quality and jumpy image Adobe CS3 Premiere to Encore DVD

While assembling and editing my individual scenes in Adobe Premiere Pro, and burning to DVD through Adobe Encore. I've experienced the following obstacles:
    1.) diminished color quality
2.) jumpy image (it seems to skip just slightly, hard for some people to notice..but I do)
3.) DVD only plays in 1 of 2 DVD players (both are manufactured by Sony)
My encoding is set to NTSC High Quality, but I see no difference when the default NTSC  Medium Quality is selected. I still have the same results (1-3). The Video Codec is listed as MainConcept MPEG Video. I am not provided with an option to select another, I suspect this could be an issue. Please advise.
My biggest concerns are 1 & 2. Please advise on how to address. I am using CS3.
    Thanks!

What happens if you export from PPro as DV AVI type 2 with 16bit 48khz sound, and then give that AVI to Encore to encode using the Automatic setting to get a best match of file size and fit?
As far as playback... what brand of media and what burn speed? Use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim for best quality media
Have you tried having Encore create an ISO on hard drive, then using something like the free http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to do the actual writing... with the slowest possible burn speed?

  • HP MediaSmart DVD software and major Blu-ray issues

In September 2010, I bought an HP Pavilion Elite HPE 250-f desktop computer (running Windows 7). This computer was advertised as having a Blu-ray DVD player, as well as players for regular DVDs and CDs. From September 2010 to October 2014, I successfully played regular DVDs and CDs. But in October 2014, for the first time, I needed to view a Blu-ray DVD. Specifically, I needed to view the "Divergent" Blu-ray.
When I tried to play the "Divergent" Blu-ray (which was made in 2014), the HP MediaSmart DVD software (version 3.1.1.3317) and the Windows Media Player detected the Blu-ray but were not able to play the Blu-ray.
Next, I downloaded the Media Player Codec Pack, http://download.cnet.com/Media-Player-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10749065.html. This Codec Pack was supposed to help Windows Media Player play the Blu-ray. That did not work.
I then downloaded Cyberlink PowerDVD 14, which played the Blu-ray for only about 7 seconds before crashing.
I downloaded TotalMedia Theatre version 6.0.1.123. However, this software did not even detect the Blu-ray.
Recently, I decided to revisit this issue. I installed the most advanced version of HP MediaSmart DVD. I installed HP TouchSmart DVD, version 4.1.2.5122.
TouchSmart flawlessly played disk 1 of the 2-disk "Star Trek" Blu-ray set (made in 2009). However, TouchSmart was not able to play the "Divergent" Blu-ray at all. After failing to play the "Divergent" Blu-ray, TouchSmart attempted to play disk 2 of the "Star Trek" Blu-ray set. TouchSmart played disk 2 with poor video.
Next, for some strange reason, TouchSmart became totally inaccessible. I could not start TouchSmart. I rebooted the computer. TouchSmart was then able to play the "Divergent" regular DVD, but was unable to play the "Star Trek" Blu-rays at all.
I did a system restore to the point just after the installation of TouchSmart. TouchSmart played regular DVDs well, but still could not play the "Star Trek" Blu-rays at all.
Next, I got rid of TouchSmart and installed HP MediaSmart DVD, version 4.1.4229 (sp49489.exe). MediaSmart 4.1.4229 flawlessly played the "Speed" Blu-ray (made in 2006). However, MediaSmart 4.1.4229 failed to play either of the "Star Trek" Blu-rays. And after failing to play the "Star Trek" Blu-rays, MediaSmart 4.1.4229 played "Speed" with poor video.
So, it appears that any specific version of HP MediaSmart DVD software will play old Blu-rays successfully, and will then subsequently fail to play more advanced, more recent Blu-rays. After that version fails to play the more advanced Blu-rays, that version will play the old Blu-rays, not as flawlessly as before, but rather with poor video quality or not at all.
I have read many threads on the HP forums and on other forums about people having trouble playing Blu-ray DVDs on a wide variety of HP computers. I went back to the specifications of my HP computer, and I found the following disclaimer about that computer's Blu-ray capabilities:
As Blu-Ray is a new format containing new technologies, certain disc, digital connection, compatibility and/or performance issues may arise, and do not constitute defects in the product. Flawless playback on all systems is not guaranteed. In order for some Blu-ray titles to play, they may require a DVI or HDMI digital connection and your display may require HDCP support. HD-DVD movies cannot be played on this Desktop PC. Some HD DVD and Blu-ray advanced features may not be supported. CPU power is dedicated to support HD DVD and Blu-ray playback functions. It is recommended that you close all other applications before and during HD DVD and Blu-ray playback. HD DVD and Blu-ray movies will only play through the HD DVD and Blu-ray player software. Advanced Access Content System (AACS) keys are integrated into your PC for copy protection purposes. Occasional renewal of the AACS key is required, and easily done by connecting to the internet.
I believe that I have gone way above and beyond ordinary diligence, to try to get my computer to play Blu-ray DVDs. The disclaimer states that certain issues may arise and that flawless Blu-ray playback is not guaranteed for all systems. But certainly my frustrating experiences, and the frustrating experiences of others, go way beyond the leeway given by HP's disclaimer, do they not? Has anyone thought about the possibility of a class-action lawsuit against HP?

In "Device Manager", under "DVD/CD-ROM drives", I see the following:
    hp BDDVDRW CH20L
I click on "hp BDDVDRW CH20L", and I see several tabs.
In the tab marked "Driver", we have the following:
    Driver Provider:   Microsoft
    Driver Date:           6/21/2006
    Driver Version:     6.1.7601.17514
    Digital Signer:      Microsoft Windows
In that same tab, clicking on "Driver Details" gives us the following:
    Driver files:      C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys
    Provider:           Microsoft Corporation
    File version:    6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255)
Copyright:       Microsoft Corporation. All Rights Reserved.
    Digital Signer:   Microsoft Windows
I think that, back in October 2014, when this Blu-ray issue first came up, I updated the driver. That may be why you see the following different versions :
    6.1.7601.17514
    6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255)
So, how would I update the firmware? To what version should I update the firmware?

  • Exporting Pdf's for the Web, maintaining quality and keeping file size down

    1) I don't have acrobat Pro yet.
I've been trying to export a small document 14 pages for email, and I can't get the file size down below 26 mgs even when I'm compromising images to an extremely poor quality. I have not had this problem with Cs3 previously. Not sure why the file size is so high. I don't want to have to down sample everything in other programs, would kind of defeat the purpose of proofing out the program in the first place. I'm wondering if the extra file size is related to metadata?

What preset are you using? How many images, and how large are they? how much vector art?
The first thing to do is to remove all unused swatches and styles from the document, then do a "save as" to remove the excess undo information, then try again.
And next time you should ask this type of question in the InDesign forum for your platform. This area is for discussing new features users would like to see. :)

  • Image size issues with processing

New to Adobe, I have had several issues with consumers images. I can not find how to save as jpeg and keep photo intergrity. Either the processer (local pharmacy, big name store.. etc) is cropping my images badly. I have been told this is my problem when I save in jpeg format. How do i protect my image? Resize with the pixels? Please help

    Hi,
The most likely problem is that your camera is shooting in a different aspect ratio that you are trying to print in. This usually shows up by either cutting the tops/bottoms off or by cutting the sides off. Alternatively you may get a border top/bottom or sides.
If that is the problem, you will need to crop the photo before getting it printed.
So that we can help, can you please answer some questions.
    1) What operating system are you using?
    2) What version of PSE are you using?
    3) What are the pixel dimensions of the photo or what camera are you using?
    4) What size of photo are you trying to print (6" x 4"?) ?

    > Is there anyplace to go to find known bugs with the program incase something like this arises in the future?
We often post solutions to known issues on the Technical Support part of our site.
I'll go ahead and write up a quick list of known issues in After Effects CC (12.2) with workarounds.
Regarding the update that we thought we'd be releasing this week: We ran into a problem in which one of our fixes broke something else (which is why we do the testing), and we're having to redo some things. My current estimate is that the update will not come out this week but will come out some time within the next couple of weeks. Sorry for the delay, but we need to get this right more than we need to get it out fast.
I'll post a summary of workarounds tomorrow to bridge the time between now and when the update is released.

  • Ipad 2 switch off and reduce image size

My iPad 2 running under 8.02 has persisted in presenting a large view of things making it impossible to "Go to iCloud Settings ... to turn off Find My iPad before restoring ...".  Also I have been unable to switch it off using the two buttons - it persists in coming back on immediately.
I did get through once and turned off Find My iPad and successfully Restored but then went back to my latest backup because so much was not working which set it back to the status quo.

By large view I mean that the icons  are three by three filling the screen and move sideways only.  I cannot access the Settings icon to check zoom, though if I recall correctly it doesn't expand things that much.  Triple tapping the screen reduces the sizes so that a fourth row is just visible.  Ah, I have now got through to settings and Zoom was on.  It now appears to be functioning almost correctly.  The exception is it now requires 6 clicks of the home button between displays.  I can live with that I guess.
    Thanks Jazcan and James Ward.

  • Image size issues

Hey guys, I have an image that I took with a camera. When I open this image in photoshop I set it at about 17% zoom at 400 resolution, roughly 10 inches wide by 8 inches tall. I used the marquee tool to select a particular item in this image. I continue to shrink the original (overall) image in hopes that I will get this item to the size I want but no matter how I try it stays the same size when I paste it into the new document (I'm creating a background to import to indesign). I change the size of the original image but when pasted into another in photoshop it doesn't change the size of the single item, how do I go about changing the actual size of an item when I paste it? Thanks in advance guys.

Instead of trying to resize it in photoshop just cut out the middleman and do it in indesign?
