DVD-R Auto-ejects and not burn

I am in the middle of a stack of Mitsui DVD-Rs and now the Pioneer 109 will not burn from an Apple or a Toast disc image, and after several seconds auto-ejects all the remaining discs in my stack. DVDs and CDs of any kind can be read and CDRs can be burned. I have cleaned the lens with a cleaner disc, but no luck. The logic board identifies the burner, so I think that's okay. Can it be a software/firmware issue (corruption?), or is the burner dying??
any and all comment welcomed
Thanks

The Pioneer 109 may have outdated firmware, which would be difficult to update on a Mac. There are lots of reports of difficulties when attempting this.
Older firmware, or just ordinary incompatibility could be the reason your DVD-Rs are not burning. If you have not already tried a different brand of media, do that.
Finally, replacement drives are much faster and more reliable, and work with a wider range of blank media; for example, NewEgg ([www.newegg.com]) is selling the new Pioneer DVR-115 for $29.99. It's very easy to replace the drive in your Mac with one of these.
Even easier, there are external firewire optical drives that simply plug and play.

  • Photos get auto-cropped and ken burns. stop it.

Trying to do a stop motion. don't need the photos to movie. Cant get imovie to stop auto cropping and ken burns-ing the photos on import from iphoto. Would be fine, but i can't bulk adjust them either, tired of going through frame by frame and putting it back to fit. help.

When you start a new project, or to change a project you are currently working on, go to FILE/PROJECT PROPERTIES, and you can change the default behaviour for initial photo placement from Ken Burns to either FIT or CROP. Crop will make the photo fit the frame exactly by cropping off the top abd bottom. FIT will make the entire photo fit by letterboxing.
If you make your photos have the same aspect ratio as your project (either 16:9 or 4:3), then FIT and CROP produce the same result, and nothing is lost from the photo.
The FILE/PROJECT PROPERTIES will only change photos that you add going forward.
To change a bunch of photos that are already there, change one photo using the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tool. Then, with the photo still selected, EDIT/COPY.
Now, select all the photos you want to change by holding down the Command Key as you click, so you can select multiple photos.
    Now, click EDIT/PASTE ADJUSTMENTS.../CROP ADJUSTMENTS.

  • My HP DVD-RAM GH40L SCSI DVD burner will burn CDs and DVD+Rs, but it will not burn DVD-Rs.

I have only tried to burn CDs and DVD+Rs before, and both work fine, but when I tried to burn a DVD-R, it failed.  I put the same blank DVD-R in my HP notebook computer, and it burned it just fine.  This happened twice, so it is not the DVDs.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the burner with device manager, but still have the same problem.  Is there a firmware update or something that will fix this, or do I just have a defective burner?  Thanks!

  • DVD Studio Pro 2 will not burn DVDs

I have recently upgraded to Leopard. I can now build an entire project in DVD Studio Pro 2. However, when I try to build, format, or build & format a DVD the application will "quit unexpectedly."
I contacted Apple support and was told to uninstall the program and re-install it. I did that and the problem still exists.
All of my software has been updated.
I understand the software is "older" but if it were unsupported software, why can I build an entire project and only have trouble when it comes to transferring it to a DVD?
My DVD superdrive has been upgraded, and I have burned photo DVDs and CDs with the new burner without any issues.
Does anybody know what else I can do?

I didn't mean to offend you with my frustration with Apple. I understand the need to upgrade operating systems. However, I don't believe that upgrading operating systems should make software obsolute. When Windows changes their operating systems, the programs you have installed on your PC will continue to work.
Leopard is many interations passed the OS that DVD SP came out and you would have the same issues in Windows with what software runs or not and usually Mac software has a pretty good lifetime. DVD SP has not been sold as stand alone for quite awhile unfortunately. Though I do have some issues with Apple from time to time, this is one of those where I cannot fault them.
Try Tiger (I am running PS3 on 10.4.11 MacBook Pro with no issues), but make sure to deauthorize your Photosshop 3 before doing anything on the sytem. As to Leopard, I am not a big fan yet, so unless you absolutely need it, you are not missing much yet.

  • Importing a regular DVD into my Mac and the Burned

Hi I'm trying to import a regular DVD into my Mac, but when I try to used imovie the folder containing the files is grey and I can't do anything I'm not sure if this is the best way to import a DVD (movie) and then burn it so I will have a copy. The movie that I wanna import is not an original copy is a copy of the original, but it work on any DVD player as well as in my Mac. I watched all the tutorials and none of them give me a solution. I would appreciate if someone can advised me in this matter.

  • Burned DVD's Are Pixelated  And Not Great Quality

So I have some movies on my computer that I tried burning to a DVD disc on my Macbook Pro. On my laptop the quality is really good but when I put it on a DVD it looks kind of terrible on my TV. Now I understand it could be because the whole aspect deal so it's stretching it.
But is there any way to make the quality better? Or any tips of how to optimize the quality of the DVD I make? I'm using Toast 9 Titanium, is there a better program to use or is there a better format to make the DVD in this program? I am using the option DVD-Video in Toast compared to like Blue-ray or Video so is there a better quality to use like Divx or anything?
I appreciate the help, thank you!
    Chris

If your source movies are mediocre and I bet they are because (putting on Kreskin turban now):
    They are from the internet.
    They are 320X240 or smaller
    MPEG-1 or even FLV/Flash
They are at bitrates in the 200-400 kb/sec range.
If not where did they come from, what codecs, what size, what bitrates?

  • OS 10.6 Snow Leopard and iLife '09 installations disks ejected and not read

I bought the Mac Box Set intending to upgrade from Tiger 10.4.9 to Snow Leopard 10.6 and iLife '09 and iWork '09. I was able only to install the iWork disc. The other two are ejected without any error message or notice of any sort. The Genius desk was unable to solve the problem. Please help.

Is it possible that there are certain firmware or OS patches that conflict with SL? How about any third-party apps?
Any third party OS patch could conflict with running Snow Leopard, & a few could conflict with installing that OS when you start out the installation process by clicking on the "Install Mac OS X" icon while running your Mac normally (IOW, when it has started up from the internal HD), but none should cause the installer disc to be ejected when the Mac is starting up, including when the "Install Mac OS X" application does a restart, which it should do at about 10 to 15 minutes into the normal install process.
This is because at startup time, no OS has loaded yet -- in fact, part of the startup process involves looking for disks that might contain an OS to start up from, including on DVD's in the optical drive.
IOW, if you can start up from the installer DVD, it doesn't matter what is on some other disk. If you can't, then either the drive or disc is defective or your firmware (including what is stored in "PRAM") is messed up. You can reset PRAM using the method discussed elsewhere in this thread. As long as any firmware patch came from Apple & was successfully installed, there is very little chance that it is the problem. If it is the problem, there is not much you can do about it besides taking the Mac in for service.

  • Dvd's auto ejecting

    Hey guys,
My eMac with combo drive keeps ejecting DVD's. I put the disc in the drive, it makes noises (reading disc), then ejects it. No error messages. No nothing.
I decided to try re-installing Mac OS X, I put the disc in the drive , but it ejects it.
I tried fixing permisions. I tried deleting "com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist". Nothing seems to work. CD's / CD-Roms work fine.
Im really confused and dont know what to do! DVD's ussed to work fine but all of a sudden they dont, and I cant think of any thing that could have caused it.
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks in advance
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Ellen Caudell123,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Since this appears to be happening with multiple DVDs including the OS X Install DVD, and DVDs used to work, the first thing I'd try in your place is the simplest: make several passes through the optical drive using a CD lens cleaner (should be available in any local cpmputer, electronics, or department store). It could be something as simple as a buildup of dust or grime on the DVD laser LED/lens (DVD and CD operate at different wavelengths and every optical drive I'm aware of used differeent lens for the separate LEDs, which is why Cds can continue to work).

  • MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-857E will not burn CDs anymore

When I try to burn a CD in iTunes most of the time it says "initializing..." and then immediately goes to "finishing..." and spits the CD out. I get this EVERY time I use a Verbatim CD, but Sony CDs sometimes work. But, when they do actually burn, I have to wait 20-30 minutes before trying to burn another CD, or else it spits it back out. Is my drive kaput?

Before you give up on it, try cleaning the lens.
    Use a lens cleaning DVD.
If you have some compressed air, shoot some into the slot.
Use a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth) wrapped around a business card and gently insert it into the slot.
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.
    Ciao.

  • DVD won't eject and MacBook pro 2,16 new

On a new Macbook pro 2,16 last generation the Disk won't eject, I have tried F12 and start but won't come out, anybody had the same problem the MAC try to eject the DVD but it won't come out

I would like to share with you my experience.
Only 2 hours after buying the MBP, I decided to re-install all the system to save space inHDD.
The second disk was stuck, I tried to pull it out without success.
I tried to see whet happened and i concluded that the CD hit the top of the slot.
So I decided to push with my thumb, reasonnably on the right hand side part of the computer (close to the trackpad) to move down the SuperDrive...An it worked.
I have to mention that I trid to find in the NET what was the fittings condition of the SD, and I knew there was some degree of feedom verticaly. I assumed it was just a matter of few millimeters.

  • DVD is 16 x9 and not supposed to be...

Usually I can't get iDVD to do 16 x9 and now I can't get it to stop.

    Proj. Info says 4 x3 ...
In QT movie is 4 x3
But finished DVD insists on being 16 x 9 ?????
    I love iDVD,

Yes that's about the way I do it too and it works.
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
And I use an old theme - prefer Brushed Metal
And this works greaty to me.

  • ITunes crashing and not burning properly

Hi. Having issues since latest iTunes upgrade -- any help appreciated. iTunes 7.6.2 (9) and Quicktime 7.5.0 (861). OS 10.4.11.
Since last Software Update, iTunes crashes repeatedly. Have run disk utility and trashed preferences -- didn't help. Now I've noticed it's cutting off the first few seconds of the first song of CDs it's burning.
Never had either of these problems before.
    Help?
    Thanks.

Problem went away with various updates.

  • How to schedule auto shutdown and not wait 10 minutes

I am working on an installation of a mac mini at a kiosk and need it to shutdown at a certain time every day. But when I set it to shutdown at 9pm a countdown starts from 10minutes. Is there a way to make this shutdown in 30 seconds?

yes, it does seem to give a 10 minute warning. not sure why this is a problem. can't you just schedule it to shut down at 8:50pm if it has to be on till 9pm? other than this you can always bypass the energy saver (just turn it off) and schedule a shutdown using your own launch daemon. get lingon http://sourceforge.net/projects/lingon/files/ and make a *users daemon* that runs every day at 9pm an executes the command
    shutdown -h now
Note: this will give NO warning and just shut down the system at 9pm every day.
