DVD-R burn fails but...

When i burn a dvd-r on my macbook pro mid-2012 fails but when i connect one external drive (brand: LG) it works and burns it correctly. It makes a really loud noise and it is vibrating a lot. (The LG drive does not make loud noice and it isn't vibrating.... it just works great.) Now the question. Why is that happening?

It could be any number of things.

  • Disk Utility verify of ISO burn fails, but md5 sum matches

Frequently when I burn a large DVD iso to a DVD, via the "Burn" task in OS X Disk Utility, the process results in a failure at the end of the verify process.  However, if I check the md5 sum of the DVD against the published md5 sum for the ISO, the checksum matches.  From this I assume that the DVD must have written correctly.  Why does DiskUtility report that the verify failed?

  • DVD will burn successfully but cannot be read in any DVD player

I have created a film using Final Cut Pro 7. I have exported as a Quicktime Movie file, used converter to make DVD MPEG-2 and DVD Dolby Audio. I import these files as assets onto DVD Studio Pro (v4.2.2) and add to my project which plays perfectly as we want it to on the Simulation.
When I do either the One Click Burn or Build and Format to burn, the process runs smoothly and says it's successful but no DVD player will recognise the disc. This ranges from top of the line Sony Blu-Ray/DVD players to various other basic DVD players...
How can we get to view these DVDs?

You made an HD DVD. Go back into preference and change it to SD and start over.

  • DVD disk burned successfuly but is unrecognized

I have tried to burn 2 different iDVD 5 projects with the same results:
    1. The dvd seems to burn OK; no errors
    2. The DVD mounts OK, DVD icon OK, Video TS is there
    3. However, DVD player does not recognize the disk for playback nor does it play on my livingroom player.
    I am using a DVD-RW.
The project is only 20mins long
I made an image file. That plays OK. However I had errors when I tried to copy it to DVD using Toast!
Anyone had the same problems? Can anyone help?

    I am using a DVD-RW.
The almost certainly is the problem with your living room player. MANY DVD players (especially older ones) won't play RW media
DVD player does not recognize the disk for playback
You mean if you start Apple's DVD Player application, you can not: File>Open Video_TS folder?
I made an image file. That plays OK.
    Good
However I had errors when I tried to copy it to DVD using Toast!
Which version of Toast - there are major differences in procedure between Toast Titanium 6 and Toast Titanium 7.
As a result, you may have created a data DVD in Mac OS Extended format and not a DVD in the necessary UDF format required by DVD players.
Click on the mounted disc and do a 'Get Info'. What format is shown?

  • When I try to burn a DVD from FCPX it burns everything but the video.

So far I am having this problem on only one project. I am very new to FCPX, so I'm thinking it's user error. When I share to DVD it burns everything but the actual video. I get audio and text effects but a black screen otherwise. The only thing I know that I've done differently from previous projects was using stabilization. I have since burned other projects to DVD with no problem, but this project will not export correctly.

  • DVD burn fails on symlink

I'm trying to burn a DVD backup of a directory that contains some symbolic links to other directories, and the burn fails every time. If I drag the directory to the blank DVD, then try to remove the symbolic links from the burn folder, they actually get removed from the "real" folder! Does anyone know a way around this? At the very least, I need some way to gracefully get around having a symbolic link -- some way that doesn't involve creating a coaster, which so far is all I've been able to do.
EDIT: So, it looks like it wasn't the symlinks at all, but something more generally related to backing up the ~/Library folder, per this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/webx?128@@.68b7e70f. I have to say. I tried fixing permissions, but no luck, I just made my sixth coaster of the night trying to backup my own files. This is frankly ridiculous: Not only does the folder inexplicably avoid being burned, but it crashes the entire burn process, not at the point of preparation, but mid-burn.
Second, burning for me is slow, just 2X. I've seen a couple of recent threads on this issue, but they're with Rev B iMacs as I understand. I'm using a Rev. A, with the Pioneer DVR-KO4F. Is there any way to improve the speed?
    Thanks very much-
    -Alan

    Hi
It sounds as if it may be lack of free disk space, or lack of contiguous free disk space. How much do you have left on your main drive? Perhaps deleting some unwanted files would help.
If your drive is highly fragmented the DVD image may be scattered all over the disk, causing a buffer underrun, especially if you're running the burning software off the same drive. You can buy software to defragment it, although OS X defragments small files on the fly so it's not normally needed. Perhaps burning at a slower speed would give the drive time to keep the buffer full. Freeing up some disk space should also help though, so there's more contiguous free space available

  • DVD Burn Failed-Matshita DVD-R UJ-815

Please help: I can not burn any DVDs. I am trying to burn some pictures from iPhoto to DVD for storage. I choose the pictures & then hit the burn icon at the bottom of iPhoto. It will run for about an hour but then stops. I keep getting "Burn Failed: the burn to the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-815 drive failed. Unknown error." I've tried several TDK DVD-R 2x discs & the original Apple DVD-R that shipped with my computer. I am able to burn CDs with no problem but this is the first time I've tried to burn a DVD. Can you also tell me if I will be able to use TDK DVD-R 8x since I can't hardly find 2x or 4x anymore. Thanks to anyone for any help. I have lots of pictures & I've got to get them off of my computer. Thank you very much.

    Mac OS 10.2.8 (6R73)
    Matshita DVD-R UJ-815

I'm having the same exact problem with my Powerbook I think, it's a 1GHz with the same Matshita DVD drive. It'll burn the disc apparently, but it never finishes. it just idles in "Closing Session 1" (i'm using a burn folder in Tiger now)...
but the problem also occurs in iDVD. and when i burn disc images.
i've found that when i see it idling (at the end of a burning cycle), i can usually eject the disc and have a working disc, but with no guarantee.
I want Apple to fix this!

  • DVD Burn Fail

I have a mac book pro. This is my like fourteenth mac, and I use them professionally everyday.
Over the years, I have noticed that on occasion the DVD burners will fail, and fail for a variety of reasons.
I know this is fairly common once the computers gets a few years old and I suspect the biggest culprit that most people ignore is dust.
Usually if I invest in, and use, my lens cleaner disc it will fix the problem, at least for a short while. Though it requires a thorough prepping before I do any burning whatsoever.
With my current super drive, probably 4 years old, I can successfully burn any DVD under 1gb.
Any disc over 3gb has a 90% chance of failure until I have tried to burn 2-3 discs beforehand.
Once I have burned through a few discs then it will usually successfully burn a disc 90% of the time — As if the laser needs to warm up.
It is annoying but workable. My question is I have a new external super drive for a mac book air, but I cannot get the drive to be recognized by my macbook pro. Does anyone know of a workaround to get this external burner up and running? It used to be possible using Toast but it seems my current Pro doesn't want to recognize the drive at all.

I am using Memorex and Maxell brand DVDs.

  • Burn to Lightscribe DVD+R media on External LaCie d2 DVD burner fails

Recently the Superdrive in my iMac G4 has failed where it would no longer burn DVD's reliably. I purchased a LaCie external firewire DVD burner and have been very impressed with its speed and overall compatibility.
I have created several DVDs from iDVD 5.0.1 (written to disk images) and then burned them to DVD-R media using "Disk Utility" with no problems. When I tried to burn them to LightScribe DVD+R media, the burn occurs with no errors and the DVD mounts and plays fine from the LaCie burner. However, trying to play the DVD from my original SuperDrive or in my home DVD players, does not work.
Is there some incompatibility I am unaware of? I believe I created one lightscribe DVD from Toast 7 where I was playing around with duplicating an existing DVD I had and it worked fine. I think the media I used in that case was one provided with the drive and I burned it from toast.
My lightscribe media is Verbatim LightScribe DVD+R media (30 pack). I don't want to consider these coasters. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

It identified write restrictions, but my goal was to write a playable DVD and it fails in both my SuperDrive and off-the-shelf DVD players.
Thanks for the idea, but I'm not sure that this is the issue in this case. Is there some basic compatibility issue with using DVD+R media as a playable DVD for most off-the-shelf players?

There is only one option and that is to replace the drive. It is not expensive to perform the replacement yourself if you so choose.

  • Suddenly DVD Drive will read but will not burn

My Dvd drive Mat**bleep**a UJ870BJ from my Tecra A10-SP5802A suddenly stopped reading blank dvd discs. I can play any dvd movie or game but I can't burn any more.
    Please help me. Thanks

Using poor quality disks causes a LOT of burning problems for people, a lot more than they realize.  The burners that Toshiba uses tend to work better with DVD+R than they do with DVD-R and they absolutely hate Memowreck blank disks (which are basically junk disks anyway).  Getting good quality blanks is the most important thing that people need to do, and this is complicated by the fact that most of the blanks available in your local store are normally low quality at best.  The ONLY disks worth getting locally are Verbatum with AZO dye made in Taiwan aor the United Arab Emerits or Sony's made in Japan.  Otherwise there is a 90% chance that you are buying junk disks.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Why do my dvd burns fail to verify

Several attempts to burn dvds have resulted if failures to verify. It seems to burn fine, but will not verify and tells me the disk may be unreliable. I am using Delkin Devices Archival Gold DVD-R discs. Burned at both x6 and x8. The first 6 or so burned and verified fine, but the last 4 have not been verifyable. Any thoughts?

    There could be several reasons:
iMac Superdrives are extremely finicky - mine only likes Verbatim for instance. So you might want to try a different brand; another way to get consistent good burns is to burn slowly - I set mine at the slowest speed available; I'd rather wait a few more minutes. I also do not do anything else during the burn process (and turn off screensaver/sleep). And, the drives are not sturdy desktop models, they get hot - so I would not burn more than two at most and then let it cool down for at least 15 - 20 minutes. For all of the above reasons, I usually use a desktop sturdy tray loaded burner which just works. But, even using the internal, I've never had a coaster.

I bought the external DVD player/burner for my Macbook.  I tried using it with my Dell laptop but it will not work.  Is it not configured to work with anything but apple operating systems?

If you purchased the Apple USB SuperDrive, it will only work with select Apple devices. It won't work, for example, on my Late 2011 model that has a SuperDrive built-in, but it will work with an Air, Retina model, new 'drive-less' iMacs, etc.
As far as I know, though, you can only hack the drive to work with some other Apple devices, but not with Windows PCs. Which is a shame as other, less expensive DVD/CD devices will work with just about any machine.
    Sorry,
