DVD-R Drive ejects blank discs.

I have an Intel iMac G5. My DVD-R drive ejects all blank discs. No error message comes up, just some mechanical noises prior to ejection. Having trouble finding the right drivers to fix this, if it is a driver issue.

yes, there are countless blank media types, and there is NO DVD burner out there that will feed them all.
DID you switch to a new DVD blank media?
Also cheap DVD blank media has about a 10% reject ratio......try further down the stack

If it also ejects commercial DVD movies, you have a dirty laser diode lens.

  • Optical Drive ejects Blank Discs

I have an internal optical drive Pioneer model DVD-RW DVR-104. Whenever I insert a blank DVD-RW disc it ejects it. If I am trying to copy a DVD in the Toast application, the blank disc keeps being ejected with a Toast message that says "Insert a recordable disc". If I insert a recorded DVD it plays fine and the Toast application copies it but I can't get it written on a blank DVD because the blank disc keeps being ejected. How do I fix this problem?

Yes, absolutely. From doing a search on the net, this seems to be a very common issue.
When I had the latest version of Leopard, all ran smoothly. Burning was fine. Ever since the installation of Snow Leopard, my superdrive ejects all blank CD's.
    Behaviour is as follows:
    - Any blank CD spins 3 times, then gets rejected. It will not mount or be 'recognised'
    - This happens with any brand
    - This happens after a reboot, or shut down, wait a few moments, start up again
    - I've already done disk repair (which is standard practice after any software update)
    - I've taken the battery out and waited, and put it back in again
I talked to Apple support and tried the following:
    - Shut down and start up by pressing cmd-option-R-P and trying to boot up after the second beep (presumably to reset the pram or something)
    - Creation of a test user account and trying to accept the CD
None of these work. It accepts a blank DVD perfectly well, but not CD. And the interesting thing is that if I have the blank CD, and burn content onto it with my other mac laptop, and put it back in - it accepts it perfectly. It's only blank CD's that get rejected.
I talked to the folks at the Apple store, and they said it sounded like a driver issue and that it "should" be fixed with a future update for the particular super drive I have (Matshita DVD-R UJ-857E - you'll find this common with most of the people who are having this issue, it appears to be a Snow Leopard issue with that particular drive)

  • CD drive ejects printed discs but not blank discs.

    Hi,
I'm using a MacBook with OS10.6.8. The CD drive will accept blank discs but keeps rejecting printed ones. It accepts them, sounds like it's reading them, then a few seconds later ejects them.
I've reset the SMC and PRAM but this hasn't helped.
Can anyone help me out at all? Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "printed disks." Are you talking about CDs and/or DVDs with printed labels? Using these is a very bad idea. If you mean disks burned in a computer or disks that are manufactured by some other process, let us know.
    Best of luck.

  • DVD RW drive not reading discs

Hey guys, I have a G61-210CA (HP Laptop) and the DVD RW drive no longers reads discs.  I have tried running the Mr Fix it tool which could not repair the problem.  I have tried uninstalling device from device manager and reinstalling it.  I have removed the upper and lower limits in an effort to solve the problem.  I am still having the same issue.  When I put in a disc it does not recognize disc.  The light comes on and the drive spins, it is just unable to read it.  Any suggestions?

    Replace the defective drive.

  • My DVD reads as a blank disc, even though it has info on it. How can I get the computer to recognize it?

my class has been given dvd's with files on them. The DVD shows up as a blank disc on my new macbook pro, even though other macs in the room do not have this issue...please help me!

You can only restore the backup to another iOS device.  Also, Apple will delete an iCloud backup after 180 days of inactivity so it won't be there forever.

  • When attempting to burn a dvd to a memorex DVD Rdl 8.5GB blank disc, the program says it's not a recordable disc.  The content is a 6.5GB Quick Time Conversion video.

When attempting to burn a Quick Time Conversion video to a Memorex DVD+Rdl, 8.7GB blank disk, the program reponds that the dic is not recordable.  It's a new blank disk.  The video is 8.29GB in size.

    Hi
    I see two problems
    • Memorex never worked OK on Mac when doing Video-DVDs - I only use Verbatim (more organic dye in them)
    • Size in Gbs - iDVD doesn't care about Gbs at all only duration. And Duration is the sum of Movie time AND MENU TIME.
I have 500Mb files that are to large to fit and 50Gb files that fit's nicely.
iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.

  • DVD Drive ejecting my disc

i have a new Mac Book Pro and I'm trying to load MS Office. I've plugged in the DVD drive, but after I've inserted the disc, it ejects after a couple of seconds and doesn't load. Can anyone help ... please

    Carolina,
If it's new, just exchange it at the Genius Bar. If it's not, it sounds like the lens may be dirty. You can try wrapping a microfiber cloth around a credit card and carefully sliding it in and out a few times, or a cleaning DVD.

  • CD/DVD combo drive ejects CDs-but only specific ones !!

    hi all,
I have the following problem with my mac mini:
a)when I enter any movie DVD, it is either ejected in a few minutes, or worse, it just sits in the Drive,(no mounting on the Desktop) and I have to restart (w/ mouse button pressed to eject)
b)any movie CD I enter (recently got brand new PoC-DMC; so no scratches etc on it too) same as (a) above
c)Insert the "Mac OS X Install Disc 1 and Apple Hardware Test" DVD (that came originally with my mac mini), and same as (a) above
d)However, insert the Mac OS X Tiger Upgrade DVD and it WORKS!!!
As of writing this, both Disk Utility and Sys Profiler have hung up. though had the same problem as mentioned above yesterday too, and then Sys Profiler was listing the combo-drive, and Disk utility was not. (as per what i read on some other posts in this forum, that would be proper behavior by the system)
Would appreciate any insights into this.
    Thanks

Is there any other means of resetting a hardware
    optical drive??
I'm not confident this will work but it's worth a try, it certainly won't damage your machine. Boot into Open Firmware ("Command + Option + O + F" on startup chime) and run 'reset-nvram' followed by 'reset-all'. Then boot into OS X by typing 'mac-boot'.
If this doesn't work boot into Open Firmware again and run 'eject cd' followed by 'mac-boot'.
You could also try forcing OS X to accept that the drive isn't in use by following the instructions here, however they do assume that a disk is stuck in the drive.

  • ThinkPad L530 DVD-RW Drive Ejecting Randomly & Crashing

The dvd drive will eject randomly and when that happens it crashes my laptop. The screen will go black and you have to hold down the power button to restart the comp.
This happens whether or not the dvd drive is is enabled or not. I ran a virus scan and found nothing.
Am running Windows 8 in desktop mode.

    Hi again, cruxial
I did some brief research on the Event ID 41 error and found a few things. One Microsoft article (found here) advises to make sure that the memory is not having issues. This can be checked by pressing Enter at the LENOVO screen when starting the computer, and then running the diagnostic called the Quick memory test. A user on a Microsoft forum (found here) found that once all drivers for his system were updated, the error stopped for him. I would give these steps a shot and see if anything changes. The drivers for your system can be found here.
    Best,
    Adam

  • CD/DVD Combo Drive ejects media

You pop in a cd, it pops back out. It doesn't mount to desktop. I have tried different brands and I am using the right CD-R. I zapped PRAM. Any suggestions?

will it take and DVD movies, install discs, music CDs?
    try resetting the PMU -
If the computer is on, turn it off.
Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
    Wait 5 seconds.
Press the Power button to restart the computer.
looking at the age of the computer, might be the drive has finally bit the dust.

  • My DVD/CD drive stopped burning discs and I have heard that if I used a DVD/CD lens cleaner that it might help... does anybody have any knowledge or recommendations on this subject?

I would appreciate any info on this because I haven't been able to burn any disks for quite a while.  Before it completely went out of service, it worked every other time I tried to burn a disk.
    Thanks!
    Erik

I fixed it.  I read one of the other posts that suggested compressed air in the drive and it worked.  I just burned my first DVD in months!!!!  Thanks anyways!

  • Help! Can't get DVD drive to play discs.

I called Apple care. They refered me to my local Genius bar (Apple store); where they reset something but wouldn't tell me what, and it played for awhile. Now the DVD player just ejects the disc after about 15 seconds. I know I'm a dummie, but I hate to waste another day making appointments with the only Apple store in Houston. Help please.
