DVD-R - folder disappear!

Here I am with a mystery.....
A friend of mine (win user) gave me a dvd-r containing photos splitted in 3 different folders.
In my win7 laptop I see everything without problem but... surprise, on my MBP (Lion) one of the folder simply disappear!
I tried also with my powermac (SL) and the result is the same even if I use a Lacie external device.
The DVD seems to be ok without any problem.
I changed also different views in Finder, just to be sure that it wasn't a stupid folder in a corner of the screen..
Do someone can help me to solve this mystery?
Thanks a lot
Alberto

Update
Another strange issue.
Very often I'm not able to read dvd made by win users.. I though about some compatibility problem but today I received a DVD prepared with iMovie. I can read it with all my pc or tv but not with my MBP.
Funny is that if I take an external dvd writer and copy the DVD using my superdrive as writer.. it works. Or better, the copy I made with superdrive works, the original not... I'm getting crazy!

  • Dragged folder to slideshow - folder disappeared

    Hi,
yesterday i tried to drag a folder with 7 albums and drop it on an empty slideshow, because i thought i can add the pictures this way. But unfortunately i did not work and the folder disappeared from view. I got no error or anything, but i cannot find it anywhere now.
I thought i might have dropped it on the trash, but i tried it with another folder and that leeds to a confirmation dialog.
I wonder if anybody else has experienced such a strange error. It's pretty ugly, because the folder with the albums was a selection of 255 picture out of 5000 for a little slideshow for the christmas event of my choir and now it seems i have to go through it again
When i'm back home, i'm going to try a library rebuild, seems that can sometimes solve strange issues, hope it helps here as well. Any other ideas, anyone?
    Best Regards,

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. My first thought was the Trash bin scenario but evidently that wasn't it. Never hear of that before.
As a precaution against losing an album for any reason in the future again just assign the √ keyword to those photos in the album. Then it's easy to get them back in a single group.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Utilities folder disappeared

    Hi all,
I was having weird trouble w/ my iBook. Worked real slow. Online stuff seemed impossible to accomplish. I decided to run Onyx for repair. I did but that had no effect. Then I decided to run the Disk Utility that comes w/ the computer. Well much to my surprise I couldn't find the Utilities folder. I did several types of searches. No joy! The folder just wasn't there. So I restored from a backup and then everything was finally working great.
What happened? How in the world could my Utilities folder disappear? This scares me.
My apologies if I put this in the wrong forum.
    Thanks,
    jabberwock

    Just thought of something-
Would the lack of an Utilities Folder cause these probs listed above???????

  • Folder disappears when you try to open certain sub-folders

When double clicking certain sub-folders, the main folder disappears and returns to the desktop. I repaired permissions with Disk Utility and it had no effect. Also verified the disk and it was okay.
I also am getting an "Unable to read file" message on an Excel file that I had no problem opening a couple of months ago. Don't know if this is related or not.

    Hi Daniel,
This issue is a fairly common occurrence, and reasons of the problems are variously. We can narrow the reasons down as much as possible.
Please refer to this article, I think the methods of this article are more specific.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2012/05/14/the-definitive-locked-file-post.aspx
And try these solutions step by step. Above all, you should
pay attention to the third solution ” Turn off the Preview Pane, Details Pane and pop ups that show information about file and desktop items”, make sure you have unchecked “Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items”.
If you finish all of methods from this article, the problem still exists. Checking the permissions of users.
For instance, the permission of user 1 is only read and he opens the [shared] file, the document creates a temporary file in the same directory as the original file. Thus the document gets a temporary lock file. When other users open the [shared]
file again, they get the error message “file in use”.
If you want to verify the reason of permission, checking the temporary file. This is a hidden file and it will be the same name as your document, but prefixed with a ~$ symbols.
The easiest way out is to delete the temporary file, but this not a long-term solution. Checking the permissions of users is radically.
Trying these solutions and let me know if they work. I am glad to help and forward to your reply.
    Best Regards,
    Emi

  • Can't load NAS in iTunes (Sharing folder disappears).

I'm trying to use my NAS (Buffalo Terastation Live) in iTunes as a sharing folder.
Everything was working perfectly when I was using my old Linksys router. Not working when I changed over to my new AirPort Extreme Basestation.
Now, when I open iTunes, the NAS shows up in the Sharing section of the folder list. And iTune says that it is 'loading...' the NAS. But the the folder disappears after about 15 seconds.
The NAS is otherwise working well through the Basestation. Meaning, I can open folders in Finder, etc.
I'm using a MacBook Pro. When I use iTunes on a PC on our home network, the same problem happens, except that there is an error that says that there is a firewall problem and I need to open port 3689 for sharing (or some sort of error message like that).
So, I figure that this may be a port sharing problem??? I don't have the faintest idea what to do next.
    Help is much appreciated.

    Hi Zac,
I installed my After Effects in "E:\Adobe". so, there's a MideaCore folder in the "E" dir, the path is "E:\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\CS6\MediaCore\". When I said I can't load plugins in the "MediaCore" folder, I ment this folder.
I downloaded Premiere CS6 from the website yesterday and installed it in the same folder "E:\Adobe", this time, a new MediaCore folder was created in the "C" dir, the path is "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\CS6\MediaCore". And I can load plugins in this folder. But if I uninstall Premiere, this MediaCore folder won't exists anymore.
    So I guess that's problem.
About the crash, I was compiling the "Paramarama" pulgin. But after I changed the compile ouput path to a different place, then change it back, After Effects don't crash anymore.

  • Applications folder disappeared

I have just uploaded to Leopard from Tiger.
On watching the tutorial on Leopard, I noticed that the applications folder was loaded from the dock.
I presumed incorrectly that to do this, I could just drag the applications folder from Macintosh HD to the dock. However when I did this, the folder disappeared in a cloud of smoke! I now cannot find it,not even in the trash can.
All the applications that I use regularly are still individually in the dock, and appear to work OK.
So if anyone out there can advise me where the folder is, I would appreciate their help. Cheers-Tony

See this thread and remember to drag the folder to the right of line in the Dock (the Trash side).

  • The ReFS File System Silently Deletes Folders Without Your Consent? How to Make the File or Folder Disappear with a Simple Rename Operation

While solving issues with ReFS not deleting some nested folders when I delete its parent, I've noticed that ReFS automatically
removes the folder without even asking you after you rename it by adding the exclamation mark to the beginning of its name.
    For example:
In Windows Explorer press Ctrl+N to create a new folder and name it somehow, like Test
Select this folder and hit F2, then add the ! mark at the beginning renaming the folder to !Test.
Hit ENTER to change the name.
Hit F5 to refresh Windows Explorer.
Voila! The folder disappeared without your consent.
    Why is that?
Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given...

Is that specific to Windows TP? Even a specific build?
I could not repro on Windows 2012 R2.
I have no unused space on my Win TP system, so could not try there.

  • Sidebar alias to nas folder disappears

I use several nas folders from a thecus nas, mounted with AFP. Some of them i have dragged to the sidebar to "Favorites". With OS/X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8 all was running well. Every time i clicked on an alias, the folder comes up or comes up after it was automatically mounted.
Since updating to OS/X 10.9 the aliases disappears from the sidebar under several conditions. Common to those is, that the folder is not mounted when clicking on the alias. When f.i. trying to store a file in a nas folder while the folder is not mounted, under 10.6-8 the folder got mounted and storing was possible. Now, under 10.9, clicking on a not mounted alias folder, the folder disappears from the sidebar, in the store dialog sidebar as well as in the finder sidebar. And there are several other situations which makes the alias disappear.
Has anybody an idea what the problem is (with Mavericks) and how to solve it ?

I have been experiencing an allied problem where aliases to files that I put into the sidebar periodically disappear...

  • Burned DVD to folder but no files were created

(Windows 7 64-bit) I completed a project and attempted to burn a disc (DVD) to folder.  All appeared normal during the compilation, etc, took a normal 15 minutes or so, Premiere Elements said it was done, but there were no files in the designated folder.  Quit & re-started Premiere Elements & tried again, same result.  Looked back through the 12 discs I've created recently & discovered one of those also empty.  Haven't re-installed Premiere Elements yet, that will be my next step.  Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone have suggestions for trouble-shooting?

I deleted the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file, which didn't help.  Then, deleted the entire 12.0 folder, again didn't help.  In the process, I noted something that seems strange; perhaps a byproduct of having deleted the entire folder.  Under C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Roaming\Adobe are a Premiere Elements folder and a Premiere Elements 12.0 folder.  Both have sub-folders named 12.0.  The Premiere Elements 12.0\12.0 folder contains only a folder named "logs", which is dated today but is empty, and a "Trace Database.txt" file.  The Premiere Elements\12.0 folder contains subfolders "Layouts, logs, OLS, SC", and 14 files of several types, include the new Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that was presumably (re)generated after my deletion of the predecessor on my last attempt to burn to a folder.
Some answers to some of your previous questions:
    1.  My Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files folder contains 26 files totalling 17.8 GB (this on a disk with 902 GB free space)
    2.  The specific DVD folder under Previews that I'm having trouble with is empty, but so are about half the other 12 folders that all (except one) seem to have worked.  I get the impression that these Previews are created only when I deliberately force a manual rendering, which I don't always do.
    3.  My Media Cache Files folder contains 236 files totalling 774 MB (on the same drive with 902 GB free).
    4.  The Edit\Preferences\Media dialog is pointed to another folder on that same 902 GB-free drive & I think the settings are all Adobe default: 5.00 GB Cache size, all boxes checked.  The resulting Media Cache folder contains 132 files at 97.7 kB, the Thumbnail Cache folder has 1 file of 31.4 MB.
    5.  I don't know what you mean by "pile-ups"; please explain.
    6.  Under Libraries\Documents I don't have an Adobe folder; just three locked out from me (My Music, My Pictures, My Video) & two others that wouldn't appear to be related to Premiere.  Another level down under Libraries\Documents is Desktop which does have an Adobe Premiere Elements 12 folder, under that PRE 12 and ReadMe folders.  In the PRE 12 folder are 6 folders & 59 files.  The files are all dated 9/24/2013 & the folders yesterday; I'm guessing that this stuff all is related to yesterday's (re)installation.
Any further ideas will be gratefully accepted.  In the meantime, I think I'll start a new project & see if it burns a disc.  The presently-troublesome one was started several weeks ago, then set aside while I did other stuff, & when I came back I went through a "workflow learning curve" again (at my age, this happens) & may have screwed something up that Premiere can't deal with.

  • Adding H.264 Files into DVD-ROM Folder

    So here is the problem:
I have 10 hours of footage and I want it all on one DL-DVD that will only be used in Dell/IBM laptops with QT installed.
Here is where I am at:
I converted footage into 10 one hour H.264 files, and I plan to use DVDSP4 to create a DVD-ROM folder.
    Here is the question:
Is there any way to create a menu that will allow me to create chapter markers to open each file when clicked? I read about DVD@ccess, but this does not seem the way to go for PC users. And if there is no way to do it, should I just use Toast and make a data DVD? (not sure if DVDSP4 will do this). Seems silly to make a Menu to Just tell everyone to go back to the DVD drive and look in the folder for the chapter files.
    Thanks for any insight,
    Don

But i guess that's not exactly a topic for this forum. < </div>
It's not the topic is inappropriate, it's just not a direct function of DVDSP and, as you might guess, folks like me have neither experience nor patience with PC applications. That it can be done at all without using something like HTML amazes me. Thanks for the heads up on this technique, Chris, hopefully the OP will research it on his own.

  • Mail folder disappeared -- right before my eyes!`

A quick scan of the missing mail posts suggests that most are related to upgrades of some kind. I don't have time to read all of them carefully, so I'll just post my question, asking forgiveness if it's already been answered.
Today I was reorganizing Mail folders and mailboxes, which involved changing some names. When I started to rename one folder, it disappeared! I checked Edit>Undo, but it showed no action. I looked in all the folders on the list -- no joy. I admit that it is possible that I touched return without entering any letters -- would that make the folder disappear? Any way I can find it?
    Alice Teter

I haven't customized the icons -- Mail produces them. Maybe they are folders -- they're small and I've never looked closely at them.
I found the missing Mail folder in the Library/Mail/Mailboxes list. Apparently I did put in a leading period (anyway, it's there). How do I get it back into Mail? I tried changing the name by removing the period, but it didn't show up in Mail. Is this one of those things that doesn't take effect until the app is closed and opened again?
    Thanks!
    Alice

Mac Mail trash folder disappeared. Deleted mail now appears in 'drafts' and Any ideas?stays in the 'in box'. Any one have any ideas as to why or how to fix?

    Hi k:
That file is in your home folder ~(symbol for home)>library>preferences.
A preference file may (rare, but it happens) become corrupted. OS X rebuilds them as needed. You will need to enter any personal preferences that differ from the default settings.

  • E72 Email : "Deleted Items" folder disappears ?

Tonight, my phone downloaded emails as usual. Some of messages were spams, so I deleted them. After I press "delete", the email app stopped responding. After about 1 min, it started responding again, but the "Deleted Items" has disappeared. Now in my mailbox there are only Inbox, Sent Items, Outbox and Drafts . Any solution guys ?

Yeah, the difference was you using IMAP vs. me using POP3.  I have rarely used IMAP, as my ISP's don't support it, but just gave myself a refresher.  POP3 is the oldest mail protocol in use today.  It knows nothing of folder structure, read/unread marks, tagging, push, multiple client access, etc.  IMAP can do all of these things, but with potentially greater stress to the server, which is why I think many ISP's stay with POP3.  Gmail, for example, is IMAP-only.  You typically wouldn't want to switch from one to the other (I would use IMAP if I could!) but switching involves deleting and re-adding the account again, using either a different host name or port.  For example
    POP3 server:  pop.mailserver.com:110
    IMAP server: imap.mailserver.com:143
Check your ISP's email settings if you really want to switch.  Hope that helps!
Oh, and your Deleted Items folder disappearing sounds like a bug to me.  The next time it happens, check your email account from a desktop/laptop computer and see if Deleted Items shows up there.  Perhaps try deleting something to see what happens.  If this works normally, then I suspect it's another bug in Nokia Email 2.2.0.
