  • Empty DVD folder - how to convert format for iMovie?

A few years ago I had transferred home videos from 8 mm tapes to DVD, because I was afraid the tapes would disintegrate if I waited any longer.
Now that I finally have time to edit these DVDs I discover that I cannot import them on iMovie, because the folders do not contain any files at all. The folder is empty. The name and extension of the folders is: VRD_MC3. I can watch these DVDs on TV as well as on my Mac OS X with DVD Player.
I searched through all the posts and I saw that someone had a similar problem and the answer by ApplMan seemed to indicate that one would need to have access to the files (.VOB) and drag them into MPEG Streamclip – which I cannot do.
Someone had suggested QuickTime 7: I bought it and tried it, but to no avail. I’m about to try Handbrake but have little hope it will work.
Is there a solution for my situation? Or should I go back to the store and try to have those same 8mm tapes (20 yrs old by now) converted to MP4? – And pay more $$!!

If you have a true video DVD, you should see a folder called VIDEO_TS with the video files (.VOB)) and an empty AUDIO_TS folder.
MPEG Streamclip (with the $20 Apple Quicktime MPG_2 component), Roxio's Toast Titanium , DVDxDV and several other programs will convert the mpg-2 content on your DVD to something editable (I recommend DV Video).
DVDxDV is a commercial program that is quite easy to use and offers a watermarked trial mode to insure it does what you want before you buy it.

  • How can I convert DVD- video into Apple's format so that it can be played and streamed from my Mac?

How can I convert DVD- video into Apple's format so that I can play the content on my Mac and also stream it to my Apple TV? A few years ago, I transferred all of my home videos onto DVD but now would really like to put these onto my Mac and stream them through Apple TV to watch on the "big screen". Any advice would be most welcome!! Thanks

    MPEG Streamclip.
Apple do not have their "own" format. You need to convert your DVDs to H.264 though.

How do I format a DVD copy for multi-zone or Zone 1?
Final Cut Pro X version 10.1.3
I have to send a DVD copy to a festival. They need it formatted for multi-zone or for Zone 1 (North America). How can I make sure it's formatted like that?

I don't claim direct experience with that, but I *believe* (as in "I could be wrong, but")  that if you burn a DVD from inside FCP X, the program will take a clue from the frame rate of your project: a 25fps project will produce a PAL DVD, a 29.97 will do NTSC.

  • How can i format my macbook 10.5.8 to snow leopord i am doing first time  format how its process and do i need to formet or upgrade and i have a snow leopard DVD????

how can i format my macbook 10.5.8 to snow leopord i am doing first time  format how its process and do i need to formet or upgrade and i have a snow leopard DVD???

First, I'd advise you to make a backup. Time Machine is fine, but I recommend making a bootable backup with Carbon Copy Cloner if possible.
Then, insert the Snow Leopard DVD (it's a retail version, right? Not a grey disk meant for another machine?) and run the installer on the disk. Should be automatic from that point in. You don't need to reformat your drive.

  • How can I format Satellite A10 PSA10C - CD/DVD drive is not working

How can I format my laptop?
The problem is that my CD-ROM is not working or it can't read any CDs.
Help me guys and btw, is it possible to format it using USB Flash Disk?
    Tnx in advance
    Model: PSA10C-035WM

I successfully restored my Toshiba 1110 with no CD Rom. The CD Rom on the Toshiba is not robust. Many of them fail. You need a copy of Windows 98 and a Copy of Windows XP. The XP you loaded on your desktop will work because the Windows Production Key should be on the bottom of your computer. You also need to buy an adapter from 40 pin to 44 pin for the EIDE cable. This will cost about $10 and will let you install the laptop HD in your desktop computer.
The problem is that you cannot Windows XP Setup unless you are in windows. You can, however, boot a Dos floppy disk. Windows XP will not run in the Toshiba unless it is set-up from inside the computer. My system involves creating a small partition on the hard drive and loading the contents of the CD into the partition then loading Windows from the partition.
    1) Use windows XP in your Desktop to create a large partition C: with the HPFS and a small partition D: (10 GB) FAT. You can pull the data cable on your desktop Hard Drive so that you don't format it in error.
    2) Copy the contents of the win98 directory on the Windows 98 disk to the same directory on the small partition. Copy the contents of the I386 directory on the XP disk to the same directory on the small partition. Copy the two Setup files from the root of the XP disk to the root of the small directory.
    3) Reinstall the Hard drive in your laptop.
    4) Boot the laptop with windows 98 or XP boot disk.
    5) Setup windows 98 from D:\win98\setup
    6) Boot window98 from D: and install Windows XP from D:\setup.
    7) Download the Lan driver from the internet then install all other drivers from the internet.

  • Not reading CD/DVD's, I need to format my computer!

    I have a Satellite P-100 PSPA3C-SD30E bought in CANADA in 2006
    Its Pentium dual core T2400 / 1gb ram / has an ATI Radeon 512 mb / DVD-RAM Super-Multi / 100 gb disk/ running on windows XP SP 3
I´m trying to format the hard disk. So I need the use the Recovery DVD-ROM. Reset, press f12, select cd/dvd boot option.
The problem the machine is not reading neither CD nor DVD. I cleaned the optics, I reinstalled the drives, I downloaded the rmvfltrs.exe file and cleaned the register (i understand it does that), chequed everything i could, updated the BIOS, and it's still not working.
I was hoping it would work when I formated and recover my disk, but I can´t because I need some other drive to support the recovery process. I have a pen drive and an external hard drive (250 gb made out of an internal disk and a case) i could use but don't know how.
When I get to de cmd.exe and type FORMAT C:, it says, the Disk is been used, Force format?
Can the reader (it still makes the running sound when I put in a CD) be broken?
How should I format the disk?
    thanks! octavio, [email protected]

I've already erased the upper/lower thing, still doesn't work
I don't count with an externeal TOSHIBA dvd drive, is any brand useful?
I'm in Argentina and official technical service is very expensive, can I configurate my external hard disk (made out of an internal disk and a case with usb connection) to replace the internal hidden volume or the dvd recover disk? in the system configuration, it appears as a "description: local fixed disk"
    thanks everyone!

  • Creating a DVD menu, how do I compress videos?

I'm going to be creating a DVD menu on DVD studio pro for an assignment, but I don't know how to use Compressor. I was wondering if anyone can help me on how to compress videos (main menu, chapter selection menu, transition, etc) on Compressor before importing them to DVD studio pro? What format do I compress videos into (mpeg 2, mpeg 4. etc)?
    Thanks.

Essentiallly: Create your menu in DVDSP. Bring your movie into Compressor as the source file. Select one of the DVD presets (90 minutes best quality is good). Submit for encodimg and then bring the output files into DVDSP.
Clearly, you need to know the fundamentals to do much of this…and learning those from these forums is not very practical   The Apple Pro user manuals are very well done. Get acquaninted with them amd you'll be glad you did.
    Good lluck.

  • HT1604 i erased my hfs+ with ubuntu, how can I format it back to hfs+ please help

i erased my hfs+ with ubuntu, how can I format it back to hfs+ because ubuntu rejects the cd or usb formatted to mac os extended journaled and i am in a stalemate position. What can i do?

You're running Ubuntu, and that operating system generally doesn't utilize HFS+.
That you're then asking this question implies you were intending to not do that, or that you were intending to run multiple operating systems within one GPT-partitioned disk.
I'm going to guess you wanted multiple operating systems.
If you had intended to partition your disk and to use various file systems within the partitioning, then the command(s) that were used to partition or repartition your disk were not what was probably intended.  (And this presumes that the two systems share compatible boot paths; that's possible with a system that can coexist within Apple's Boot Camp or Ubuntu or another operating system booted as a guest within one of the add-on OS X virtual machine products.  I don't know for certain that Ubuntu can coexist.)
To get OS X back onto this same volume, you'll need to figure out if you have a GPT and then what's in your GPT, and whether there's a partition large enough for OS X to exist, or whether you can repartition your GPT disk to allow OS X to be reinstalled or reloaded into the partition.  Or you'll need to wipe the whole disk, and replace its contents with a freshly-partitioned disk, and then load a copy of OS X that's been recovered from backup or freshly installed from distribution.  Or you'll need to provide another disk, and then partition and load an operating system (either Ubuntu or OS X) onto that as appropriate.
The tools for doing the repartitioning within Ubuntu are best discussed with folks more familiar with that operating system; I'm not sufficiently conversant to suggest tools for that.  I'd suggest a forum specific to Ubuntu for that.  The tools used to repartition the disks on OS X generally involve the Disk Utility tool, whether booted from DVD (Snow Leopard), from the USB key disk (Lion), from an external OS X disk, or potentially using Target Disk Mode from another OS X system.  And the OS X tools for repartitioning are destructive; they generally don't save what's in the existing partitions, if you need to make an existing partition smaller.
The usual sequence (and the one that's easiest to describe) to establish the environment starts by wiping the whole disk, and establishing GPT partitions of the appropirate sizes using Disk Utility or its Ubuntu GPT-aware analog, and then loading the target operating systems into each.  Alternatively, you can read the Boot Campe documentation, or review the documentation with the particular virtual machine product that you're going to choose and use on OS X for details of how to manage its guest operating systems.
Without some idea of your end-goal here (and where you're stuck in the current environment), it's hard to provide more specific suggestions.

How can I format idvd to correctly format hd video for tv screen. My dvds are overscanning the screens on different dvd players. Would also like to know how really to use files in dvd studio pro on my old g5 d desktop. I need to use new hd cameras for projects but don't understand how to encode or format correctly to fit screen. Everything overscanned (losing a lot of picture and menus (too large)!

  • Having trouble converting dvd-rw vr to a format for idvd 3

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to convert my dvd-rw vr dvd i burned to a format I can edit in either idvd 3 or imovie 3? I have mpeg stream clip but it is a bit confusing for this novice.

What does "vr" refer to? To convert DVD files you'll need to have Apple's mpeg plugin ($20 if you haven't purchased it as part of Apple's pro software, etc.) along with MPEG Streamclip. Here's an article about the alternatives:
    Converting Unprotected DVDs
    http://www.macworld.com/article/59308/2007/08/sept07mac911.html
You'd be converting the files into a format for iMovie (DV Stream, otherwise known as .dv) if you're wanting to do any editing.

  • Using Adobe Acrobat XI, uploaded my form from my Word. How do I format spaces for SSN, DOB, Phone number?

I'm trying to create a new client form how do I format the spaces numerically for DOB, SSN and phone number??? HELP! Can I do this on Adobe Acrobat XI????

Not sure what you mean by uploaded form. Did you print to the Adobe PDF printer, use the Save As Adobe PDF, use Save As PDF or XPS, use the Acrobat menu in WORD, or try to open the word file in Acrobat directly? Assuming you printed to the Adobe PDF printer, then you select the TOOLS>Interactive and select the Form Wizard. Otherwise, you simply use the tools under the interactive menu. You might find the following video useful: http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-to-create-pdf-forms-from-existing-documents. The form tools are under the interactive menu (I could give better direction if I was at home where I have AA XI).
