DVD+R plays on some computers, not on computer burnt on if done from Toast

DVD+Rs only play on my G5 if they were burned in DVD Studio Pro. If I duplicate them from Toast Titanium, then they don't play on this computer. They do play on other Macs and PCs and in DVD players. Anyone have a clue?

No, it's not.
You are creating a data DVD the way you are currently electing to.
Instead use the copy TS Video election.

.mov to DVD to play on other computers

I have a .mov file on my desktop that plays just fine with QT.
If I burn the file using the Finder's Burn Folder or make a data disc using Toast, the resulting .mov file on the burned DVD will not play on my computer.
What am I doing wrong?
I simply want to put the .mov file on a DVD so that it will play on other computers, not so it will play on a DVD player.

Toast no longer supports crossover copying of Mac and PC DVD's. The older versions (Toast 10.2) did because they embedded "autorun" data so the DVD would be read by Windows. According to the techs at Toast, the only way to get a Mac made .mov (etc) file to play on a PC or Mac/PC is to include some type of PC autorun software with the transfer. This is done by options-more-add autorun. Of course, the catch 22 is that there is no easy way to do this. I'm done with Toast.

Hi just wanted to let you know I solved most of my XP problems with my new IPOD. It won't recognise the IPOD or driver and froze and locked up and then the battery died. After hours of trying different things here is what I did. I completly closed computer down. Waited 15 minutes turned on and reloaded everything. I put the usb cable in but not hooked up to IPOD. I turned off Mcaffee (all of it). After my computer came on. I then went and closed everything I didn't need in the bottom toolbar. (taskbar). I then reloaded the software and waited. Took forever to reload and I don't know why but whatever it worked but I DID NOT HOOK UP THE IPOD LIKE IT SAID! I instead shut down the computer after loading the software and waited 5 minutes and turned it back on. I again waited and shut of mcaffee. It loaded everything fine this time and said new hard ware and drivers detected. I plugged my IPOD in and YES I WAS UP AND RUNNING (THIS IS AFTER 6 HOURS OF PLAYING WITH OTHER THINGS!) I am able to load and play, burn, watch movies, see pictures and everything your suppose too! The only thing I see different than the instructions is I left my usb cable plugged in and when it said to eject the disk I didn't. I also didn't plug in the IPOD (5th Gen) and then I shut down waited and then restarted the computer. I hope this helps others because I know the feeling of wanting to return something you paid dearly for and worked hard at saving money to buy one and it doesn't work. My only thing I dislike about apple is they didn't supply a ac adapter for the IPOD and the instructions say to plug it up when trying to charge battery. DUHHHHHH, ya can't do that if ya don't have one and stores are closed and won' open until Monday! But at least I am up and running. I just hate having to plug up IPOD to computer daily to charge the battery which only last a half a day1

I tracked down the problem with the download and installation, my windows 7 was missing a file and after reinstalling windows everything worked out. The first 32 bit program in their list was used. I hope this can help others.

Encore CS4 DVDs can't play on some computers without an upgrade - why?

Can anyone give me advice on this.
The DVD's I've put together in Encore CS4 demand upgrades on two other computers other than my own which play them ok.
Why the required upgrade?
The original footage was taken on an AVCHD camera then burnt to PAL DVD discs by this method. I created a DVD image first and then used Nero to burn the image onto the disc...the reason for this being... I want the image on my computer for permanent keeping and I wanted to test the image this way. Encore doesn't seem to have this facility.
I also need urgent help. My discs need to go for replication this coming week. I need to know what to put on our website as a warning and also where to get upgrades for some computers.

Since this is a USER forum, not Adobe support, the only way another user could reply is if they have the same equipment and software you have, use the same process you do, and then get the same error... and also have a solution
You really need to post DETAILS about your equipment (computer and camera) the process you use (STEP BY STEP description of everything you do from getting the video from your camcorder to the final burn process) and then the EXACT error message and just what it is that needs to be upgrade on your user's computer
Throwing a dribble of information out is simply not going to get an answer

Some DVDs will play while others will not - told it's an HP brand problem

A new movie I bought refuses to play on my laptop, not matter which media player I choose. The computer recognizes that there is a disk inserted (though it doesn't recognize what movie it is), but when I try to play the disk the player will freeze.
I've been told that this is simply an HP brand problem with no viable solution, but I was hoping to learn more about it here.
The new DVD I bought is the correct region and my disk drive is not dirty or faulty as it will play other DVDs and CDs just fine. This new DVD works with my other DVD player and works perfectly in my roommate's Toshiba laptop.
Is there some sort of downloadable solution?

Go to HP.com and update the dvd drive and the BIOS.
Here is a link to the update. You’ll need to select your country and have your product number.
You might also clear the upper and lower registry values.
As you play DVDs files will be stored in these folders that can sometimes cause problems.

Why won't QT movies play on some computers?

when i export from FCP 5 using H.264 or mpeg4, i'm getting mixed results with windows users - most can play the files just fine, but there's been a few, with QT 7 installed, that report seeing the QT player but not being able to see and/or hear video/audio. however, when i convert using Sorrenson3, that solves the problem but i'm still baffled why the issues on some windows machines and not others, all w/QT 7.
any insight would be greatly appreciated.

hmmmnnn... am i the only one having these issues? seems odd 'cause i've spoken with another FCP user who had the exact same problems with their QT files on the web.
could it be a speed/memory/video card issues on the windows computers? i'm throwing that out there 'cause the 2 machines i know of that are having the problems viewing the movies are run-of-the-mill dell boxes... nothing fancy just standard workstations, both bought in the last 2yrs.

Pls asap! Burned DVD opens/plays on mac but not on PC! AND idvd sizing Q

I have iDVD 6.
The PC drive recognizes / sees the DVD files I created using iDVD in the drive, but doesn't load or play anything. When I look at the DVD it doesn't show any file that would load anything, just 1 video and audio.
ALSO I like the look of the DVD when it opens at a certain size. It keeps opening at full screen size, is there any why to make it open at a specific size and have the option to expand to full screen?

1. iDVD 8 has three levels of qualities.
• Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min) - BEST
• High Performances (movies less than 60 min) - High quality on final DVD
• High Quality (movies up to 120 min) - slightly lower quality than above
2. From
• FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov
• iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
• iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Use iMovie HD 6
3. I use Toast™ to make an as slow burn as posibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 this can also be set)
4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disc. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
5. Verbatim ( also recommende by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD

iDVD quality depends on:
• HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
• What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choise.
• What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
• What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
• How You encode and burn it. Two settings
1. go to iDVD pref menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better)
2. Project info: Select Professional Encoding.
That's about it. Now You should get an as good copy as Your original movie can supply.

Dvd will play on comp. but not on tv/dvd player? help

i just started to learn how to use my mac/iDVD and I burned two DVd's without any issues and they played fine on my regular tv/dvd player. I had a basic image/audio for the background.
I made another DVD with a video for the menu background and more data on it-but it still was under 4.7 Gb of storage..etc. But I went to play it on my tv/dvd player and it says "incorrect disc" and will not read it,yet it will play fine on my Mac.
Any reason why this won't work vs. my other two that burned fine??

Did you burn it as an Audio CD or a Data CD? You may have a home CD player that can play data discs while the car player cannot...

.MOV Files playing on some machines not others

Ok, so this morinig we are having an issue win which a file that will play on two of our macs will not play on any others via QT. When I open with QT X, I get a dialogue suggesting the file is corrupt, when I open with QT7 I recieve the old "An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie". On this machine, I can open these files via VLC and Handbrake, but not QT. We have two other machines that can play them fine in QT, so I thought it was a missing codec issue. Comparing the Quicktime folders from both root->Library and root->Syatem->Library show that I have all of the same codecs installed, so that cannot be the issue.
The files in question are from a Firestore capture drive, and have a .mov extension.

I'm having the same problem. It must because of a recent QuickTime update. I suspect the iTunes 10.5 update is the culprit. I shoot with a FireStore (FS-C) and have 5 Macs that can no longer read any of the .mov files. All the Macs (MacBook,Pro 8,3 / MacBookPro 8,2 / MacBookPro 5,2 / MacBookPro 2,2 / MacMini 4,1) are running 10.6.8 and all were capable of reading the FireStore files...until very recently. The last footage I edited was on October 9th. Somewhere between then and today (October 25th), an Apple update made the .mov files unopenable. When I try to play the files in Final Cut Pro (7.0.3), I get a "General Error" message.
I've installed VLC and the files will all play properly in the VLC player, so the files themselves are intact.
UPDATE: Yes, the problem stems from a recent QuickTime update. This has been confirmed in the following support notice from VITEC:

I'm going to try downgrading my installed QuickTime and I'll post the results.

Click Safari in the menu bar and then Preferences.
Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Block cookies and other website data:
Select "Always".
Adobe Flash Player has to be downloaded, installed and allowed.
Allow Plug-ins
    Safari > Preferences > Security
    Internet Plug-ins > "Allow plug-ins"
    Enable it.

Videos won't play on some computers

Hi, I've been able to upload videos to my iWeb site and everything plays fine when I test it on my computer and on my lap top. However, on the family PC (which is new, and has Quicktime installed) the video files don't load (it ends up with a big ? over the Quicktime symbol). Any idea why?
I've tried uploading the files as DivX files, but they're currently .mp4 (I used the "Export for Web" option in Quicktime).

4KB is too small for a video file. That's the size of an alias file in OS X. Do you mean 4 GB? You might try adding one to a page like in this demo page to see if PCs have any better luck with them: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window.
An alternative which would definitely be more PC friendly would be to convert those QT movie files to flash.

.mov will play on iPhone but not on computer

I have had this problem intermittently but it has me a little confused. Here is what's going on.
i have recorded several .mov files on my iPhone 5 and I can play each and every one of them from the phone without issues. Now, when i plug the phone into my MacBook, a few of the movies will not play with ANY media player. For example, if I try to open the movie with Quicktime or any other player, like VLC, it is not recognized. It is as if the file is damaged.
Why can my phone play the movie but it appears damaged when plug into my Macbook and/or copied to my machine?

I think you should have updated media players as you are trying to play the clips recorded from iphone 5.
So, you should check your quick time player version & vlc too.

Copy and burn personal DVDs to play on TVs?

I have personal DVDs of family members that I would like to share with other family members. Looking up possible procedures I see different approaches, some of which require download of an application. None of them seem particularly simple. Any suggestions?

If you have software app such as Roxio Toast, you can copy/burn your own content (not copy-righted) from one DVD to another very easily. Simply pop in the DVD, copy it, and then burn it to another DVD. You need to be careful as the content needs to be encoded to be able to be played on DVD players. I do not know if Disk Utility can actually do that - I know it can do so on DVDs being played on other computers, but I do not know if it can encode properly to be played on DVD players.
