DVD-R won't insert on MacBook Pro

I want to take some videos off my computer. Some are mine - some are from ITUNES - my hardrive is overloaded.....when I put in the DVD-R, it just pops back out. My computer specs list DVD-R as a valid write media...what is the problem? Recently I upgraded to Snow Leopard - did it disable all my iDVD media?

Never post your serial number. I will have a host remove it. Does this happen with all DVD-R's? Perhaps your optical drive needs cleaning.

  • What blank DVD-R will work with a macbook pro and Matshita UJ-857E

Hi in my macbook pro is the factory fitted Matshita UJ-857E superdrive, when I insert a blank DVD-R it spits it out, blank CD's work ok.
I have Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
I have tried three different types of brands including maxell, verbatim and cheap woolworths brand.
I bought an external USB DVD burner and this recognises any DVD-R I throw at it, so I think it can either be a faulty drive or it's a bit fussy about the brand of DVD's it can recognise.
Please can you post the blank DVD's that work on your macbook pro superdrive

Thanks for pointing that out, re posted here

The certificate on my applications install DVD for bundled software has expired. I am unable to reinstall with this dvd on my snow leopard on macbook pro. Pl help. If I use Lion, it works fine with the expired certificate. But doesnt work with snowleopard.

Create a DMG file of your DVD (instructions here: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-DMG-File-on-a-Mac).
Then follow the instructions here: http://managingosx.wordpress.com/2012/03/24/fixing-packages-with-expired-signatu res/

  • I can't play a DVD from my superdrive via my macbook pro to apple TV via airplay.

I can't play a DVD from my superdrive via my macbook pro to apple TV via airplay.  The movie plays fine on the macbook if I'm not trying to airplay.  The airplay works fine if I'm not trying to play a movie from the superdrive.  I think my apple TV is Gen 2.

If you get a checkerboard pattern it's because Apple block Airplay Mirroring of protected media.
    VLC Player may work.

Facebook won't load on Macbook pro with Mountain lion on a small homw network at home

Facebook WILL load when i connect my computer directly to the the modem, bypassing the router.
Facebook will load when i use Windows 7 on VMWARE.
    What i already tried:
    1- Reset the router
2- cleaning caches on all the browsers i'm using (Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
Never had that problem with 10.7
Mystery, don't know what i should do except reinstalling Mountain lion...
    Any idea?

Edge Inspect desktop has no UI and only Inspect icon will be visible in the menu bar. Also, you need to be logged in with Adobe ID in the app.

You may need a 3rd party application to view the DVD in a wWindows format such as

  • Dvd-r recorded from 8mm won't play in macbook pro?

Happy super bowl Sunday! I recently burned some 8mm footage onto a dvd-r using a samsung vhs/dvd converter. The dvd plays perfectly on all dvd players in the house but it won't play on my macbook pro or my imac. I've looked into systems to hook the camera (which by the way is about 15 years old) up to my mac but it's about a 160.00 converter box to go from a/v cables to firewire 400/800.
Anyway, looking at all these forums it seems like I need to find a way to finalize the dvd-r???? Is that all there is to it? I'm not even sure if there is that option on the samsung dvd box? I just spent around $4000.00 on this macbook pro and my home imac. I made the switch for the ease of operation making movies. Unfortunately, so far this is tougher than I thought is would be.
    Dave

Thanks for answering. Yes I checked it today and I re-recorded the video again. I chose to finalize it at the end and to my surprise it worked on my computer. However, it will play for a short time and then freeze in different spots. I can't restart it, It won't continue. Dvd player stops it real quick then I try with VLC and it plays even more but still does the same thing.
I'm not sure if it's the speed or something else. There aren't too many options for recording on the Samsung DVD 300 model dvd recorder.
Sure wish this was easier. Should be easier for me. I bought all these apple products for this purpose and it sure is convoluted.

  • DVD won't eject and MacBook pro 2,16 new

On a new Macbook pro 2,16 last generation the Disk won't eject, I have tried F12 and start but won't come out, anybody had the same problem the MAC try to eject the DVD but it won't come out

I would like to share with you my experience.
Only 2 hours after buying the MBP, I decided to re-install all the system to save space inHDD.
The second disk was stuck, I tried to pull it out without success.
I tried to see whet happened and i concluded that the CD hit the top of the slot.
So I decided to push with my thumb, reasonnably on the right hand side part of the computer (close to the trackpad) to move down the SuperDrive...An it worked.
I have to mention that I trid to find in the NET what was the fittings condition of the SD, and I knew there was some degree of feedom verticaly. I assumed it was just a matter of few millimeters.

  • Why won't my DVDs from iDVD play on my Macbook Pro?

I have made over 3 dozen DVDs from home movies using iMovie and iDVD. They have all played fine on my Macbook Pro. For some reason now, any movies I make and burn using iMovie and iDVD won't playback on my Macbook Pro, but will playback on my wifes Macbook or our DVD player or a windows computer. What is going on?

I am having the same problem and it is extremely inconvenient and frustrating. Here's what is happening to me:
I am a Film and Video Studies major at George Mason University, so I use Final Cut Pro a lot, everything works fine with that. I export it to Quicktime and go through the regular procedure of putting in on iDVD. My friend was working on a project and I told him I would help him out by making him a DVD as a part of his final project. So I made the DVD using iDVD in the computer lab, same operating system, same software. I used the type of DVD's I used before so that's not it. After I burned it, I took it back to my dorm and tried to watch it, instead of opening the DVD Player application it opened iDVD and asked me if I wanted to start a new project.
    Anybody know what's going on?

  • Why won't my new macbook pro recognise a recorded dvd?

I have a burned dvd of family wedding photos. It works fine in my old HP laptop (Windows) but isnt recognised as anything other than a blank disc in the MacBook Pro harddrive...... any ideas?

When it was burned it may have been burned using Windows software that either excluded compatibility to be read on a Mac or you didn't select that option.

  • External optical drive won't work on macbook pro retina.

I have a macbook pro retina which doesn's have an optical drive. I have bought an optical drive. When I plug it in and put a disk in I can hear the disk spinning and the light comes on but nothing happens on my mac. It doesn't seem to recognise it. Any suggestions?

Just had that happen to me.
First, run Disk Utility and see if the SuperDrive (it is an Apple SuperDrive isn't it?) is listed. Is the disk you inserted shown? If not, hold down the option key and click the Apple menu - choose System Information and when that shows up, choose USB. See if it's listed there. If it is but neither the drive nor the disk you inserted appears on the Desktop, the side bar of the Finder window, or Disk Utility, return it for a refund (if it's within 14 days of purchase) or a replacement. That's what I had to do a few hours ago and the replacement works as it should.
BTW, if you want the disk you inserted back, and pressing the trackpad as you reboot doesn't eject the disk, as a last resort run Terminal and enter (copy and paste the following)
    /usr/bin/drutil eject
to try to force the disk to eject. It probably won't work (it didn't for me) but if it does, at least you get that disk back.

  • Leopard Won't read on MacBook Pro 15"

Just loaded on my 17" MacBook Pro, but my daughters 15" won't read the disk. Plays cd, recorded dvd for backups, so what could the problem be, called Apple, reset pram, pulled battery, power reset, nothing worked. got appointent at genius bar on sunday. Just out of warranty too! I can see them bucking now!
    Pat

Got to visit the "Genius Bar" tonight at my local Apple Store. Their diagnosis is that I have a bad optical drive... apparently, I can play some DVDs (at least the one I used as a test plays, but for some unknown reason, I can't play others, including the Leopard install DVD. How this could be possible is beyond me.
I nearly fell over when the Genius then tells me it will cost $400 to replace the drive. An optical drive failure after only a little over a year's use just isn't right. I'm guessing that there's either a bad batch of drives in some of these early MacBooks, or the excessive heat is causing premature failure. $400 is just ridiculous.
BTW, the Genius turned the book on its right side to try to coax life out of the DVD drive - might work better than upside-down (plus with the lid open, it actually stands up by itself that way, so you don't have to stand there like an idiot with your computer over your head.
