DVD-RAM support?

Hi All!
I'm using iMac Intel at work, and I tried to use DVD-RAM storage media. OS X 10.4.9 and Ubuntu linux 7.04 reported, that my drive Pioneer DVR-K06 does not support DVD-RAM at all, but according to manufacturer's website, my drive supports DVD-RAM writing speed up to 5x! Who lies?
P.S. I think its some kind of "think different" concept implementation: specially for Apple, Pioneer ships drives with removed DVD-RAM support

Open System Profiler, click on the Disc Burning item in the list. It will report what DVD disc burning is supported. For example this is what is reported for the Superdrive in my C2D MacBook Pro:
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
According to the iMac specs the Superdrive supports:
17-inch model with 2.0GHz processor, 20-inch model and 24-inch model with slot-loading 8x SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Writes DVD+R DL discs at up to 2.4x speed
Writes DVD-R and DVD+R discs at up to 8x speed
Writes DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs at up to 4x speed
Reads DVDs at up to 8x speed
Writes CD-R discs at up to 24x speed
Writes CD-RW discs at up to 16x speed
Reads CDs at up to 24x speed
I don't see any mention of DVD-RAM.
