DVD Region locked?

I want to change the DVD Region back to my own country and it says that I have one change left but won't let me, why?
Is it locked?
VLC won't play this DVD, what other players with play DVDs?

Set up a new account.  If the problem appears there, then you will know it's a system wide.
Run Apple Hardware Test.
=================
Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
Try changing the DVD region.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

  • HT2397 how do I reset my dvd region when its locked?

I recently used up my 5 changes of the dvd region without realising( i stupidly thought it would warn me) and now my imac is locked in region 1 when i live in region 2.
if i restored my computer would i get to reset the dvd region again?
or does anyone know an easier way to overcome this?
    thanks

Regretably, there's no practical way to do it. Erasing and re-installing the software won't work as the counter is carried in the drive's firmware.
Apparently there is a way to flash the firmware on some models, but that's pretty risky even if it works.

  • How to remove Region-lock on DVD drive?

    HI,
My laptop is equipped with pioneer dvr-k16a. I had watched some DVD borrowed from my friend who required region 1 to play, so I switched it to region 1 and now I can't switch it back anymore. Apparently my DVD-RW being region-locked which I know only after it happens.
Is there anybody can help me up?

If there are no more USER changes allowed, than your drive is permanent locked into the last used Region (Region 1 is America).
There MUST have been a message on your screen asking for your permission to change into a different Region when you switched it to a Region 1.
Like the previous post, I would not flash the drive into a region-free neither, as it is a risky procedure which voids warranty and quality of your drive. This procedure can't be declared as ilegal, as someone easily could buy several Multi-bay drives for each region to watch his Films on.
You can still watch different region movies on a region-locked drive with specific region-free software solutions. Google them yourself as I don't want this reply to disappear again.

  • How do I region lock a DVD/Blu-Ray drive?

I want to region lock my drives. So e.g. I want to lock a DVD drive on one computer to region 1 and another drive on another computer(or the same computer) to region 2. Is there a safe fool proof way of doing that? Thanks.

    Hi
It's not a relevant question - In iDVD forum as
iDVD - can only make one region setting = region 0 (Zero)
This means that DVDs if made for the right TV-Standard (NTSC or PAL) will play in ALL REGIONS.
TV-Standard - is something else and can be set for each new DVD project.
    • PAL = 25 frames per second (fps) (EU)
    • NTAC = 29.97 fps (USA)
Do not let iDVD convert material from one to the other ! iDVD tries to do it - BUT RESULTING DVD is poor or Worse.
(I use JES_Deinterlacer) to do this - does it so much better and is free)

  • Qosmio G20: How to change the DVD region code?

My DVD is locked into region 1 is there anyway to fix this because I need it to be on region 2.
I have been using it on the correct region which is 2 but for some unknown reason it has locked onto region 1 not allowing me to make any changes.

    Jeffrey speaks well.
However, you must to right click My Computer -> property -> hardware -> device manager ->
dvd/cdrom drivers -> double/click your drive -> dvd region/tab and if you have some
remained possibilities, you can choose region 2.

  • Super Drive and DVD Regions

    Hi,
I know that most DVD players lock out after a certain number of region changes but if I buy two super drives can I use one for my international DVDs and one for my American DVDs or is the region lock part of the hardware of my macbook air?
    Thanks.

    That should work.
The region is supposed to be stored in the drive itself.

  • Can dvd region setting restore by reinstalling mac os?

I am currently using Mbp and have a dvd drive "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-867" with Firmware Revision: HA13. Currently set as region 3. Can i restore the number of chances of changing dvd regions to "no regions is set" by reinstalling mac os?

Note that RegionX only works with a region-free drive. Most Mac drives are not region-free; you can determine the status of yours by downloading this utility:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16366/
If your drive is indeed region-locked; there's probably little or nothing you can do. I have not seen any region-lock hacks for any recent SuperDrives.

  • Is new Macbook dvd region free or not?

Want to buy one, but concern the dvd reigon lock.

Re: Is new Macbook dvd region free or not?
NO it is not region free.
However I have flashed my drive to be region free (RPC1).
It depends which model of drive shipped with your macbook has got region free firmware out there.
you can get region free (RPC1) firmware for lots of drives from the dangerous brothers
    http://tdb.rpc1.org/
I had to run windows xp using bootcamp on my macbook in order to flash the DVD drive.
Please beaware that flashing your drive will invalidate its warrantly and you should only follow a flash procedure if you can afford to replace the drive should something go wrong. That being said I have been flashing dvd drives since 1999 and have never broken a drive.

  • DVD Regions, External Drives and Front Row

    Hi everyone,
I've done a fair bit of looking through forums and although the topic comes up all the time my question has not really been satisfactorily answered.
I know that there is no way to make the drives in Macs region free. Having DVDs from multiple regions and living in Australia where region-locked players violate our Trade Practices Act, this upsets me.
A possible way around this is for my Mac to use an external DVD drive that can be region-unlocked. However this prompts the question of whether the region change count is only on the firmware of the drive, or is it in the actual software?
Now most posters recommend using VLC media player as it supposedly ignores regions. However, I really like Front Row and I really want to play my DVDs through that, rather than VLC.
    So my question is:
Can Front Row play several regions of DVDs through an unlocked external DVD drive in much the same way as it would work with the internal DVD drive?
I am willing to try some minor hacks to initially get things working, but in the end I just want to insert whatever DVD I want into a DVD drive and watch it effortlessly in Front Row.
    Thanks for reading

I did that, but some of my videos don't play now.
When put on the Internal Harddrive they seem to work fine, but when put on the external they don't work.
I have and Intel-Mac Core 2 duo and is there a codec pack that will allow me to play ALL the formats on Intel Mac?
    Thanks,
    Shubs

  • DVD region will not reset

I have traveled back and forth between North America and the UK and have switched the region of my DVD drive several times.
Now, although the usual DVD region reset window comes up and tells me I have one more region change before the drive is locked, it is not resetting the drive's region. The reset app quits without an error message but the drive remains unchanged, and the next time I insert a DVD, the reset window comes up again, telling me I still have one more reset before the drive is locked.
Is there a way to do this final reset through Terminal or by some other means?

I just got help from the Apple Support on this. This just happened to me and thought I would share the solution. Hope you have saved all your iPod data because you have to restore all data.
Step 1: Toggle the on/off hold switch and then restart (center and menu together) until the screen goes blank.
Step 2: Immediately, while the screen is blank, hold the center and pause/play. That turns the iPod in disk mode.
Step 3: Plug in your iPod into your computer to restore it.
    Problem solved...

  • MSI DR4-A region locked

    Hi,
i have an MSI DR4-a which appears to be region locked to region 1, i'm in the UK. I have played several disks however it never asked about changing the region. Is there a simple way of unlocking the drive or will updating the firmware from 2.23, which i'm on, to 2.30 clear the region setting.
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
I updated with firmware 2.30 and with me it did!
Apart from that, updating solved some problems I had and improved the performance! (See also info posted by other users, who benefit from this update)
For those havong problems with region codes: The free program DVD Genie may fix this. For this and other progs, please see http://www.doom9.org/

  • IBook Combo Drive Region Lock

My iBook drive is locked to Region 3 because of Apple Dvd Player. Is there anyway to make the drive region free or start the Cycle of changes again. All i want is to have it back to Region 1.
The Drive is MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8124 Firmware Version: DB0D

    Hi,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
The firmware cannot be flashed. You have two choices. Replace the drive or use a different video player. VLC (free) will play all DVDs region free.

I was about to order a Region 3 DVD but then I realized that my MacBook may not be able to read that... Can MacBook Pro read Region 3 DVDs?
I bought my MacBook Recently almost right after apple introduced Intel Duo Macbook Pro...

DVD region selection is an issue you should be careful with.
I had selected region2 as I was going to be using only 2 region dvds but later on moving to India where there are so many region dvd's available I am confused how to get my DVD player work.
Out here on the forum users have suggested using VLC player to BYPASS the region on DVD player but on my 3month old Macbook Pro the VLC is not running any of the dvd. It is giving me weird error. (cdda: no audio tracks found
main: no suitable access module for `dvdnav:///dev/rdisk1') Dont know what it means.
Good luck with your dvd viewing.
