DVD Remote for iMac?

Is there such a thing as a DVD remote for the iMac? I know I can use the Apple remote to control volume and play & pause the DVD but I'm looking for something that can navigate me through the menus without me having to be at the computer. Is there such a thing?

Good result.
It looks like you have a much newer iMac that the ones covered in this forum. This area is for the older ones with an articulated display arm and the white domed base. They look like this:

Looks like yours is Intel, and the Intel iMac forum is here:

If responders here don't realize you have a newer model iMac, you could get some bad troubleshooting or repair advice.

  • LG GSA-E10L Super Multi DVD Rewriter for iMac???

I need to install a newer version of Mac OS on the old iMac I have to use. The problem is that my iMac is not equipped with DVD drive, and the instalation software is on DVD disk.
A friend of mine has offered to lend me an external DVD drive: LG GSA-E10L Super Multi DVD Rewriter, but it seems to be (surprise, surprise!) not compatible with Mac computers.
Is there any way I can still use it?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Here are the possible solutions for you to achieve installing the latest & greatest OS X on this 5 year old iMac:
Media Exchange Programme (swap your DVD for CDs).
    Buy Tiger on CDs (link).
Purchase an External Firewire DVD±RW DL Burner (link).
The iMac G4 15" 700MHz CD-RW only shipped with 128Mb RAM. 256Mb is the bear minimum for OS X 10.4 so you should look at installing a 512Mb SODIMM for a 640MB total. See RAMSEEKER (link) for prices and here for installation instructions (link). To check how much RAM you have now go to  > About this Mac.
Please let us know how you get on.

  • What is the best external cd/dvd burner for imac?

My iMac internal cd/dvd reader died on me. I'm looking for a best external solutionb for this problem. Any solution?

    I may suggest OWC, http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/optical-drives/superdrives/
This is a case to put your own optical drive into. I have this case and I am impressed with it.
I also have a Pioneer Blu-Ray 12x in the case for doing Blu-Ray Authouring. I got my drive for about $99CDN.
Also, I watch Blu-ray movies on it with Mac Blu-Ray player.
    Does this help?

  • Dvd drive for iMac G4

I have an 700mhz imac g4 with a cd-r drive. I also have a slot loading ide lg dvd drive. (Looks like this one: http://www.arxvaldex.com/shop/images/lg%20GH22NP20-OEM.jpg) I was wondering if it would work in my imac g4. I am not sure if it would fit, because the edge of the disk tray is different from that of the original cd-r drive.
    Thanks
    Edhar

    Hey Edhar,
i took this semicircle metal thing off the end of the cd drive.
That thing is referred to as the EMI shield and it should have also been held on w/ two screws. The two strips of copper tape are also part of the EMI shielding which could also be called a Faraday shield.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_interference
    for a discussion of EMI.
Do you know if it is important?
It's only important if you're in an area of EMI which in the modern world is pretty much everywhere in a city. You can be located in an area where there is a lot of EMI: Radio stations, Cell towers, power transformers, TVs, blenders, etc.

  • DVD Duplicators for iMac/iMovie

Ive searched the forum but haven't found any info.
Has anyone here used a DVD duplicator tower that burns 3, 5 or 7 discs at a time? I'm in the market for one and have no idea what to look for. I need to burn DVDs in bulk and my iMac spits them out one at a time, of course. I'm looking to spend less than $1000. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

  • DVD burner for iMac - OS9.2

I have been looking all over the Internet, and local computer stores trying to find an external DVD burner the will work with my iMac, 350Mhz, Power PC with OS 9.2. I can't find one anywhere. all of the new ones are for OS X. My model iMac does not have firewall
Can anyone give me a way to find one?

...find an external DVD burner the will work with my iMac, 350Mhz, Power PC with OS 9.2.
I doubt that you will have any luck. Your iMac has USB 1 which will make DVD burning extremely slow. Since your iMac has a G3 processor, making video DVDs will be agonizingly slow and you will have to use Toast or some other 3rd party tool to do it. You should be able to use one to make data DVDs but it will be slow.
My model iMac does not have firewall
    You mean Firewire not firewall.

  • DVD burner for Imac G4?

Where could I purchase a replacement for a defective DVD drive in a machine just like the one listed here?
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-IMac-G4-800-mhz-60gb-512mb-CD-RW-DVD-15-Flat_W0QQitemZ 160125419476QQihZ006QQcategoryZ80039QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I've installed a Pioneer DVR-112BK (BK just stands for black) in my 1GHz imac. should be fine for your model. It's very quiet with quick and reliable burn speeds. the Pioneer DVR-112DBK is the same drive but cheaper because it can't write to DVD RAM disks, only read them, so see if that's something you want.
the drive itself is a bit shorter than the supplied OEM but will still fit when you take the front casing off (necessary for any model of drive).
can't provide huge amounts of info for retail in the US but but OWC computing (http://macsales.com/) have a good customer service rep and specialize in Macs.
    hope that helps.
NB - make sure you research the process of opening the dome before you do. it's tricky (see links).

  • Portable dvd writer for IMac

    Hi,
I am fairly new to the mac world of things, and my current imac is the built in cd-rw however I want to use a portable firewire dvd-writer. The difficulties I have is that there seems to be only one model list and I want to know if most will work? (e.g. are they plug and play) the only application I want to use it with is idvd.
any help would be appreciated and suggested model that you know work?
    thanks
    jamie

Hi and thanks for taking the time to reply.
Nope with a cd in or out this drive is just not recognised which is a real shame.
Looked at various solutions and believe it may be a power issue?
The drive powers up ok but is just not showing on the system profiler.
Any ideas or halo would be most welcome
    Thanks in advance.

  • Need to get an external DVD player for Imac, which one?

    Hey (again),
I've had a terrible time getting my imac up and running properly since I got it back from its HD replacement yesterday.
It's gotten to the point where I'm going to wipe the system and then do a time machine reinstall.
My problem is that my imacs dvd player doesn't play DVD's anymore, it just spits out the install DVD. Could I use any cheap external DVD (usb) drive and wipe and install my OS from there or does it need to be in the internal one? I found a couple of really cheap ones that I'm wondering would do the trick or does it need to be a specific brand?
Or do I need to have my imac which is out of warranty serviced and have the original dvd player replaced?
Any input on this is greatly appreciated.

In my experience just about any external DVD drive works. I've found them way cheaper at a big technology store like "Fry's".

  • Logic Remote for iPad always gets disconnected from paired iMac..?

    Hello,
I recently downloaded GarageBand 10.0.0 and Logic Remote for the iPad, the thing is, it only stays connected when:
    (1) GarageBand does not have any open projects or
    (2) When the project is about to be closed, as the user is being prompted to: "Don't Save", "Cancel" or "Save"
I know Logic Remote connects to the Mac I am using since it tells me to open a project first, then right after I open a project,
    logic remote always tells me
"The connection to <computer name> was lost. Please select the Mac you wish to connect to"
The app then tries to reconnect and reconnect, but nothing happens.
By accident, as I tried to close the project in the Mac, whose snapshot is attached in this posting:
the app then is able to remotely control garageband...
When I cancel the project closing, the problem persists...
This actually renders the app useless...
Have you guys encountered this situation.?

I am experiencing the identical problem as janjerick.
    To reproduce the problem:
    1) On iMac OS 10.9, Launch Garageband 10.0  - choose Empty Project.  Created a "software instrument" track.
    2) On iPad, Launch Logic Remote 1.02  and select the hosting iMac computer.
    3) Connection seemed to come up on the iPad, then prompty goes away.  "The connect to <host> was lost".
    4) The connection doesn't come back... UNTIL I try to dismiss the project on iMac Garageband. The instant I get the "Do you want to save the document" dialog -- Boom!  The Logic Remote connection is established.  And then the Logic Remote seems to be able to control Garageband (while the 'Do you want to save the document' dialog is in the foreground on Garageband.).   But as soon as I try to go back into a project on Garageband, the connection is lost.
Here's the kicker: I also have Logic Pro X on the same iMac and the "Logic Pro" remote app is working PERFECTLY with that.  But as soon as I flip back to Garageband, no go.
    Anyone else?

  • I can't burn a dvd using any method, Idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when i click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac

I can't burn a dvd using any method, idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when I click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac, or how do I do whatever I need to do to get it working: I have already tried using a lens cleaning cd and also restored my nvram or something i forget what it was called but i restarted my computer holding down  command+optoion+p+r and still nothing???
Free solutions are the best, although if I have to pay I will, I would prefer to not have to buy an external burner if possible and already know that is an option so please don't give me that answer... thank you for any help you can give

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

Thanks, A Brody.  Don't know what the PRAM battery is.  Here are more details of the fault ... Although I've had the iMac for 5 years this may be the first time I've tried copying a video recording onto the DVD drive (I've made lots of CD copies without a problem).  The folder and files all seem to be reproduced in identical order on the disc but my domestic DVD player cannot make sense of the recording, unlike the original source DVD from which the files originated.  The drive has always been noisy but I've never assumed it shouldn't be!  Does this fit your PRAM battery theory?  If so, please explain more.  Thanks.

I need help, i need buy or dowload some Professional Authoring DVD for IMAC, I editing in my Final Cut Pro X and need a DVD authoring
after installing the Mavericks, my IDVD don't work, can someone help about this ?
also, did you know if DVD studio pro its available for sale ? if yes, where's can I buy  ?
    thanks

Apple discontinued DVD Studio Pro three/four years ago. You can probably find copies from private sellers, but whether it will work without problems on OS X 10.9 I don't know. I don't know of any "professional" alternative to DVDSP for Mac, but someone else here may be able to offer suggestions.
As to iDVD, it should work under Mavericks, depending on what version of iDVD you're running. You might ask for assitance in the iDVD forum. For alternatives to iDVD, see this page for suggestions:
