DVD replication problems

I send a DVD 5 out for replication with a "region 1" setting for the region code. I got a message from the replicators saying that the "Control DATA" and "Main DATA" don't match and must to be replicated. Everything I read in the DVDSP manual says DVDSP automatically sets the "Control DATA" after you set your preferences. Anyone know a fix? It's pretty urgent.
Thanks!

Hi Hal,
It's a warning; and either the replicator is not bothering you about it, or they've turned off the reporting for it in their reports.
Funny thing is, if you do click region 7 to play along with just one other region, say, Eclipse will report that a non playbable region has been selected to play, as an information listing - not a warning. But if you check All the regions to play, including region 7, Eclipse won't inform you that region 7 is set to play.
But if you don't click region 7 to play, a value of 1 is placed in that reserved bit by DVD Studio Pro; which by specification can only have a value of zero ('allowed' to play), and Eclipse will report it as a warning.
So I always check Region 7 to play no matter what, because that's specification (a value of zero must be in that region slot) - You know me... a little pedantic at times.
Now, it just occurred to me, thanks to your post, that I might need to check what DVD SP is doing on formatting region 7, maybe I'll leave it unchecked next time and see what happens? - as I've been harping on it and other region matters for so many years - the good programming team at the big Apple might have listened? I'd be shocked
The Scenarist bunch changed their default region 7 setting with the release of 3.0, so anythings possible?
Thanks,

  • Online DVD replication/distribution

I wasn't sure where else to ask this, and I figure since many of you guys have been in this for a while and are probably aware of various delivery options, I'd try posting here.
I'm a member of several forums, and one of them is putting together a kind of scrapbook project that compiles creative works by members.
For the graphic/art submissions, the organizer has decided to go with one of those online book-binding services. Basically, you submit all the artwork to them based on their downloadable templates, they print it, bind it and people can order the final product from the website. This site, here, specifically:
    http://www.shutterfly.com/shop/Photo_Books_8x8_Story_Book/product_c18020-p3101
I've volunteered to help compile a video submission component, and I'll be authoring the DVD as people submit their videos to me (I'm anticipating a lot of videos in need of correction for pixel aspect ratio issues in the near future, lol).
My question is basically, are there any good online services that are the video/DVD equivalent of the scrapbook/picture book binding service described above? A small-scale (basically to order) replication service that one could submit the ISO of a DVD-Video, discart on some kind of template; and people would be able to order the resultant disc?
    thanks in advance,

We just finished a dvd replication job for our summer camp video from New Cyberian in San Jose, CA.  I must say the quality was simply fantistic and the customer service was also great.  I got burned from a company in San Francisco that copied our ISO file as data without converting it to DVD-Video and blamed on us without specifying it.  Fortunately the folks at New Cyberian was able to rectify the problem for us in a very short time.
My experience with cd/dvd copying is not to give orders to so called big companies.  When they are big they will need more time to manage their staffs and there will be less time to manage your order.  Just my two cents.

  • Replication Problem "Encrypted file on unencrypted media" (CSS)

    Hello,
since a couple of weeks, we have problems with the replicator. They use Eclipse-Imageanalysis to check the DDP-masterdata before they do the glass-mastering. Imageanalysis is a standard-software for replicators.
This software reports from time to time "Encrypted file on unencrypted media". This means, that files are tagged for encryption (CSS) but the images do not have or require any encryption on a DVD master, which is not prepared for CSS.
We use GEAR Mastering Pro to create DDP masters by the VIDEO_TS folder created by Encor, instead of creating DLT tapes with Encore. But GMP is not where this problem is coming from. GMP does not affect the tagged files. The files are already tagged in the VIDEO_TS folder. The problem is definitely created by Encore. We had this problem already with Encore 1.5.
Has anyone experience with this problem? Is there a work-around, or a possibility to check this tagging/flagging ourselves instead of waiting for the replicators error-message?
    Thanks in advance
    A.

@JBowden - I don´t need Encore to add CSS. I would never use Encore to master, never ever. Encore is so much unreliable. It´s better to use DDP images on disks (GEAR) instead of creating old-school and ultra-slow DLT tapes. Futhermore: A DDP can be veryfied and checked, a DLT not.
@Neil - Thanks. Well, i did exactly what Gear told, that means, we use SSCRST 4 / DDP 2.1. Is this 2048 or 2054? I am not sure, but i am sure that the VOBTABLE.DAT is always present, and this is typically for CSS - at least in DDP verson 2.0.
We create a big bunch of commercial masters each year, some with CSS and some without, all CSS-DVDs without problems, and some Encore-Non-CSS with this problem. The Gear company reports, that this problem is definitely caused by Adobe Encore, and that Adobe is not willing to cooperate in any way. This problem is present in Version 1.5 and in version 2.0.
Yesterday i bought the first Mac & DVD Studio Pro for our company. We have and had so much heavy problems with Encore and i spent so much money and time for the problems in it. If it will be better with the Apple software, we will drop Encore completely. Do you have experience with DVD Studio & Gear in combination?
    Thanks

  • DVD drive problems : should I buy the new iMac ?

Hello, being new to these discussions, I don't know if this question was answered before.
My last iMac's DVD drive stopped working after 3 years use. And from reading the discussions, this problem seemed quite common.
But 3 years is not bad, considering the posts talking about the DVD drive not working on NEW iMacs.
Does anybody know if Apple is going to do something about this soon ? My computer is a working tool, and I cannot spend time or money on repairs all the time.
    Thank you.
    A Mac user since 1985

+"Well, since nobody has an answer, I suppose I will wait until I no longer see the DVD drive problems on the discussions."+
That might be a while. I bought my iMac Oct. 15 and the DVD drive is already not responding. Backing up files, I had burned 2 DVDs from the same package, Toast says this one is a CD-RW and unwritable, and makes a noise like it's trying to eject it but nothing happens. Disk utility says the DVD drive is empty and nothing shows up in the Finder. Using Terminal (drutil eject) and starting up with the mouse button held down makes the same noise as trying to eject it in Toast, with the same results - nothing.
Still trying to find the receipt to take it back & get it repaired. I sure miss the hole for the paper clip.

  • How can i solve this replication problem between TT and ORACLE

    Hi
    I have an application that using AWT cashgroup implement the replication between TT (7.0.6.7) and ORACLE(10g);
    but i encounter this problem:
16:16:50.01 Err : REP: 2302682: ABM_BAL_WH:meta.c(4588): TT5259: Failed to store Awt runtime information for datastore /abm_wh/abm_bal_ttdata/abm_bal_wh on Oracle.
    16:16:50.02 Err : REP: 2302682: ABM_BAL_WH:meta.c(4588): TT5107: TT5107: Oracle(OCI) error in OCIStmtExecute(): ORA-08177: can't serialize access for this transaction rc = -1 -- file "bdbStmt.c", lineno 3726, procedure "ttBDbStmtExecute()"

the isolation level of my date store is read-committed ,and the sys.ODBC.INI file is also set Isolation=1(readcommitted mode)
so ,I still wonder how the error ORA-08177!
how can i solve this replication problem?
    thank you.

I suspect this is failing on an UPDATE to the tt_03_reppeers table on Oracle. I would guess the TT repagent has to temporarily use serializable isolation when updating this table. Do you have any other datastores with AWT cachegroups propagating into the same Oracle database? Or can you identify if some other process is preventing the repagent from using serializable isolation? If you google ORA-08177 there seem to be ways out there to narrow down what's causing the contention.

  • Session in-memory replication problem

    Hi,
I am running into some cluster HttpSession replication problems. Here is
the scenario where replication fails (all servers mentioned here are a
              part of a cluster).
1a - 2 Weblogic servers (A&B) are running - no users logged in,
2a - user logs in and a new session in server A is created.
3a - after several interactions, server A is killed.
4a - after user makes susequent request, Weblogic correctly fails over
              to server B
Problem: Not entire session data is replicated. The authentication info
              seems to
be replicated correctly but there are some collections in the session of
              server A
that did not make it to the session in server B.
The interesting part is this: If there is only one server A running to
              begin with and a user
interacts with it for a while and only then server B is started, when
              after server B starts up
server A dies - the entire session (which is exactly the same as in the
              failing scenario) is
corretly replicated in B, including collections that were missing in the
              failing scenario.
How can this be possible ????
Thanks for any info on this one - it really puzzles me.
              Andrew

Yes, you are on the right track. Everytime you modify the object you should call
putValue. We will make it more clear in the docs.

  • Leopard DVD player problems

every time I launch the DVD player program it crashes instantly i've tried to restart cause I thought it might need a restart but it still does even after the restart.

I too am having DVD Player problems, though certainly not that consistently. About 1 in 10 times I start up DVD Player it will immediately dim the screen and display in front the multilingual "you must restart your computer" message. Never happened with Tiger, but that was also a different computer. Doesn't matter whether I'm playing a VIDEO_TS folder or whether I'm playing a disc, doesn't matter whether there is even a disc in the player or not. For VIDEO_TS folder doesn't seem to matter if the folder is local or on a network. Also, I have had the same effect when viewing VIDEO_TS movies through Front Row; thus I think the problem may be pretty deep in the OS's video code, perhaps even in the driver. My system has Santa Rosa motherboard with x3100 built-in graphics.

  • DFS Replication Problem

    Hi Friends,
I have windows server 2003 domain at two location before somw month back its replication data
and its working fine but now i unable to see replicate data i mean i thing having replication problem
i gotted some evint id error on server
    Event id error :- 5002  , 4202  , 1925 ,13568
    Please help me .
    Thanks,
    Madhukar

The 4202 is staging quota size is too small.
Run these 2 Power Shell commands to determine the correct Staging Quota size:
    $big32 = Get-ChildItem DriveLetter:\FolderName -recurse | Sort-Object length -descending | select-object -first 32 | measure-object -property length –sum
    $big32.sum /1gb
Take that resulting number, round it up to the nearest whole integer, mulitply that times 1024 and enter that number on the Staging tab of the Properties of a replicated folder in DFS Mgt.
    More info here:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2007/10/05/top-10-common-causes-of-slow-replication-with-dfsr.aspx
Run this command to tell you the status of Replication:
wmic /namespace:\\root\microsoftdfs path DfsrReplicatedFolderInfo get replicatedFolderName, State
    0: Uninitialized
    1: Initialized
    2: Initial Sync
    3: Auto Recovery

  • How can I work around a DVD burning problem

Steve Grisetti: How can I work around a DVD burning problem?
Question: Does PSE and PE -7 solve this problem or make any difference at all?
    Joanna

This article, from the FAQ list at the top of this forum, is valid for all versions, since it may be a problem for any.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b5f52c
The problem is not so much with Premiere Elements as it is with challenges faces in the operating system registry. Basically, DVD burner programs, like Nero, which are installed on your computer at the factory, refuse to share access to the DVD burner with other programs.

  • CD & DVD writing problems

Whenever i try writing cd's or dvd's,there is always a write error,i've tried writing 5 cd's today and a dvd but not even one completed successfully, any help please?my dvd ram is mat**bleep**a dvd-ram uj-850.

Regards how much space is available on the hard drive there is almost 90Gb  of the 160gb available. Regards are we talking about writing or re writing this for writing either to CD or DVD. What ever happens i put in the disc, select the folder and it gives a message saying there is insufficient space on the disc for the files selected try removing some files and try again. This happens even if the folder has a file in it of 200Kb not even a quarter of a Mb. But as i say it reads Cds and DVDs no problem.

  • Superdrive replaced, DVD-DL problem still exists (sorta)

I have a Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 ghz Intel Xeon - the machine shipped with a SONY superdrive up top, and I installed a Pioneer in the bottom slot.
The SONY drive was able to burn dual layer DVDs - I am using Memorex DVD+DL disks. The SONY drive was NOT able to read the DVD dual layer disks that I burned.
The disks are readable in all other machines in my house (All Macs)
I called Apple, they said this is a known issue, and I needed to swap out my superdrive. I just picked it up from the Apple store and it now has an OPTIARC AD 7170A drive, which I believe is a SONY as well.
I just tried burning a dual layer DVD with the newly replaced drive, and it worked fine the first time, however the verification failed. The 2nd dual layer DVD I tried to burn just plain failed - MEDIUM ERROR.
The drive CAN burn dual layer DVDs, but it CANNOT read them. The drive can read and burn DVDs no problem.
Why on earth would the brand new drive fail to read the dual layer DVDs, but everything else reads just fine???

I had very similar problems with the Sony OPTIARC drive in my 2007 Mac Pro (Intel Xeon, 10.4.11).
I found others having the same problems here with the OPTIARC and some said it was 2nd-rate quality. Also - I never liked the noise it made while burning, sounded "cheap."
I got the Samsung Internal DVD/CD 'Super-MultiDrive' DVD DL/CD w/LightScribe. From macsales.com ($29.95 USD). This unit requires you install Patch Burn (software) but runs fine, no more "coasters" from any format DVD, including DVD-R DL (but never tried DVD+R DL). After testing, bought a 2nd one for the lower bay.
The Samsung unit comes with a plastic front (bezel) which must be removed to fit properly. This is easy & quick: illustrated instructions on the macsales.com website.
I wanted the Lightscribe labeling system: no fuss & bother with design / printing labels. Burn DVD, flip it over, launch Lightscribe, enter text in"Edit mode" - click "Print" and 3-4 minutes later your DVD is labeled.
I do wish I could find a way to get both drives working at once (i.e., labeling two DVDs at once, burning two at once). Otherwise: completely satisfied.

  • DVD Burn problem. "Device error - the target device isn't suitable for use"

    Hello everyone,
I initially had a lot of problems with PE8. However the nVidia driver update solved most of them.
Just thought it was important to report success as well as failure!
However one problem remains. I get the following error at the 96% mark while burning. "Device error - the target device isn't suitable for use". It is always at the 96% mark and the program is "compiling [something]" when this happens.
Having searched this site I notice that user rgferg posted a similar problem 13 days ago but was redirected to repost in a different place, but never did.
I have tried to burn a 1hr clip 4 times and every time I have selected the slower burn speed (8MB/s) as has been suggested. It seems that inferior media is a culprit, so I have bought some [quality] Verbatim DVD-R media to try in my Phillips SATA optical drive. I am sceptical this will work, but open minded nonetheless. I will give it a whirl when my computer has stopped capturing the VHS I am working on.
Each time the burn failed the disk was automatically ejected and the burn process had actually started and progressed perhaps ~40% or so.
This indicates to me that it is a drive sharing issue, rather than a media issue. Somewhere on this forum it suggests that I go through a 20+ step process and delete/disable every piece of software that can compete with Premiere among other things. IF I do this what do I burn with outside of Adobe? Do I have to get imgburn or whatever it was called? What if I like Nero? Nero 6 has worked great for me for 3 years.
So given I am willing to uninstall my old optical drive burning software, who out there can recommened commercial software that for them creates a painless Adobe burning experience with no errors or conflicts? Perhaps there is another solution that I did not see on this forum?
I am running Windows XP SP3. I have the latest nVidia drivers for my SLI GeForce 7600 GS cards. I have 3 monitors. RAID 0 SATA, 2GB RAM, Athlon X2 5400.
    Justin.

OK been working through the list of 20 things Adobe recommends to fix DVD burn error. No luck yet:
    system meets minimum requirements
Project size does not exceed disk capacity
successfully burned project to DVD folder -thus skip to step 8.
      8.   Using new blank media for burning
      9.   Try different media and DVD burners. Bought Verbatim DVD-R. Don't have another DVD burner. Adobe's supported burner list is VERY short, so of course mine is not on it.
      10.  Uninstalled Nero 6. Did NOT uninstall Acronis True Image workstation or Lightscribe. These do not access the drive unless I say so!
      11.  Have not yet disabled startup items and services. This will take a lot of work and will leave to last. Deactivated Spybot thus far.....
      12.  Disabled IMAPI CD burning COM
      13.  DMA if available already set. Haven't set this in BIOS yet. I already think it is, but will check next boot.
      14.  Updated DVD firmware
      15.  Already updated nVidia drivers
      16.  Don't have any other DVD drives to disconnect.
      17.  MPEG workaround. Will resort to if required.
      18.  Disable Autoplay? XP only has "prompt me each time to choose an action". I have set this for ALL file types.
      19.  Have NOT refreshed the DVD drivers in the registry. This step involves uninstalling PE8. Will leave this as last resort.
      20.  Visit forums to see if other have the same problem. Hi guys
So still working through some of the items above.
Can anyone direct me to advice on how to write the encoded files sent to the hard drive, or the VOB files that PE8 failed to burn to a disk? Will the former work with DVD menus?
    What a process.
    Stay tuned.
    Justin.

  • My DVD burning problems solved....here's what I did.

Like some of you, I was having MAJOR problems burning DVDs. My initial setup was a dual 2.0 ghz G5 purchased in July of last year, so it came with a 8x burner and iLife '04 (iMovie 4.0.1 and iDVD 4.0.1). Seeing as how I have 1.5gigs RAM and a fairly new system running 10.4.3, I didn't think I was going to have any problems burning DVDs....
    HA.
Nothing worked right......a 1-hour long project burned for more than 8 hours without finishing, or iDVD would quit for no reason, or the burn would fail. I noticed that Terminal said that during these burns it was only burning at 4x even though 47x was requested. Chapters were not working. Applecare was not helpful, only suggesting that I try to burn under a new user, and then call them back. That didn't work either.
I probably took the lazy man's way out, but I decided this waste of time was unacceptable. I went out and purchased a 16x SuperDrive Pioneer DVR-110D replacement from MCE for $92, and upgraded to iLife '05 for another $79. I installed the drive myself (VERY easy with the included instructions), and tried the new setup under a newly created user.....
PERFECT burning every time. Not only that, but Terminal showed a requested burn speed of 16x and a burn speed of 16x. A two-hour project is now burning in less than 8 minutes. Multiplexing still takes time, but it's less than 1 hour!
On an interesting side note: when I try to burn under my regular user name, I STILL get an burning error (says image not complete, or incomplete....something like that). But under the user name created just for burning I have no problems. The chapter problem was solved when I stopped putting a chapter marker at the very beginning of my iMovie projects, since iDVD automatically puts one in called "Beginning," which you can change to anything you want.
    Maybe this will help others.....
    Dual 2Ghz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   1.5 gigs RAM, iMovie 5.0.1, iDVD 5.0.1

it was only burning at 4x even though 47x was requested.
That's a issue discussed in the past.
It turns out that 8X DVD burning means about 47X CD burning - you were requesting 8X DVD but only got 4X DVD burning.
I haven't seen it discussed anymore so maybe Apple got around to eliminating that 'quirk' in terminology.
I suspect some of the early 8x DVD burners didn't perform as advertised. I'm glad your new 16X burner is working for you.

  • DVD Player problem after 10.4.7 upgrade

I don't know if I posted this to the right forum so I'll repost it here. Sorry for the repeat. Compared to others on this forum my problem seems trivial but it is still somewhat annoying. After installing 10.4.7 upgrade combo I can no longer use Apple's DVD player app. The app launches and recognizes DVDs but cannot make it through the title before it hangs. It responds to eject and quit. It informs me that skipping to the next chapter is not permitted and it does not crash. I have tried: dumping the prefs, fixing permissions, and re-running the updater. On the same machine if I reboot onto the other drive with 10.3.9 the DVD player (V 4.0 vs V 4.6.5) works as advertised. Any ideas?
    TIA
    Dave

I HATE FM! OK so I found the problem. I posted and got some ideas. I downloadsd Pacifist and re-installed DVD Player. (one version back 4.5 v 4.6.5) I removed all power from the machine for 10-15 minutes. The problem was still there. After giving up in disgust I left the computer alone for a day. This morning I figure I'll check out a DVD I just made using VLC. (afterall it still worked) So I stick the disk into the drive and DVD Player launches and I'm waiting for it to freeze and....@#% #@*& @#* *# % #*&^@! It works just fine! So I stick in the comercial DVD I had been testing with and its all better now. BUT I DON"T KNOW WHY!
    Sorry for the rant.
Thanks for all your kind help.

    Hi there:
Having a strange problem burning DVD's now. I have a January '06 intel iMac Core Duo 2ghz, 2GB RAM. My DVD burner suddenly no longer will burn DVD's. When I put in a blank DVD-R, it just spins for a bit then spits it out, no prompt or error message. When I put in a blank DVD+R or DVD-RW, it gives me the usual prompt that a blank DVD has been inserted and asks how to handle it. But when I try to burn, it opens the session, then quickly finishes the session (without any burning) and spits the disc out with an error that burning failed because of an inability to calibrate laser power level for the media. Sometimes it says due to a media error. It also will not read a previously burned DVD data disc, including the OS install DVD that came with the computer. It will however, read and play movie DVD's, and also reads and burns CD-R's with no issues.
I've tried the following fixes with the following results:
    1) Change media. Have tried several different types and different brands. No success.
    2) Burn DVD's from an external firewire DVD burner. Works fine.
    3) Hardware Test via the install DVD (on the external firewire burner). No problems found.
    4) Did a fresh install of the Tiger OS onto an external firewire hard drive, booted from that, and tried to burn. No success.
    5) Tried burning from Disk Utility and Finder. No success.
    6) Put a cleaning CD into the drive and let it run. Still no success after.
System profiler says the drive is ready to burn CDs and DVDs. CDs work, DVDs don't.
Any ideas as to what could be causing this and how to fix?
    Thanks!

If you guys did a search on the optical drives you'll discover that they have a rather extensive
history for failure. the failing optical drive process starts off rather slowly and worsens over time.
You could replace the internal optical drive but rather than performing surgery on your Imac
you would be better off going with an external optical drive.
If your IMac is still under warranty you can have it replace but I would still pick up an external
as well, I have read a couple of threads where even after having the internal replace the same issue
    happened yet again.
I ordered a LaCie that does rather well.

I did however discover a couple of minor issues with my LaCie...
    1) When the mounts a disc , for some reason the mechanical ejection button
on the face of the enclosure is disabled. This is not a major issue right click and eject or, drag the
    icon into the trash
    2) if you are wanting to lightscribe be sure to go to the LaCie website and download the latest
lightscribe app, the one that came with mine was out of date and did not work in Mac OSX 10.6
    3) My lightscribed DVD's had a problem , the images where filled with rings from the center of the
disc out, I have discovered this is due to calibration , Amazon has shipped me a new Lacie that
I have sitting in a box next to me, I have not had a chance to test out the new unit yet.
You may also look at OWC's optical drives

Either way make sure that you go with an optical drive with Firewire.
