Good DVD Rippers

Does anybody know of any free or cheap good dvd rippers that work for macs, i have mac the ripper and cant seem to get it to work, when i burn it to another dvd it just replays the beginning 2 minutes of the previews, can anyone offer better suggestions or tips?

DVD from converted Super 8 won't play since system upgrade?

DVDs converted from Super 8 in 2009 previously worked fine on Mac, but since recent upgrade to 10.8.4 (?from 10.6.8) video will not play, although audio does. Info from disk includes: UDF (Universal Disk File?); DVD Player Document, Unix Executable File, Video_TS.BUP and .IFO and.VOB, VTS_01_0.IFO or .VOB on different files. Still work OK on DVD player with TV. Any suggestions appreciated. Has probably been 1-2 years since last viewed.

Are you able to first create a disc image and then use Apple's DVD Player Application to open this disc image? Let us know if it plays correctly directly from the disc image. If it does, then it may be you have a media issue. What kind of media did you burn to? Try using Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R and burning from a disc image at 4x or slower using apple's Disk Utilities or Toast.
If the above fails to resolve this issue then repair permissions on your Hard Drive. Also drag and drop the plist for iDVD to the trash. Looks like this:
com.apple.iDVD.plist
Empty the trash and Restart the computer.
Lastly, make sure to run apple's software updater for iDVD6 as well as for QuickTime.

IPOD DVD/VIDEO CONVERTER PROBLEM

After testing cucusoft converter software successfully recently, I made the plunge. It worked fine for a day, now when I go to play the DVD/Video on the Ipod, I get an album-like cover (on the IPOD screen) and audio, but no video. Any suggestions to correct this? Could it have something to do with the re-setting of the default player?

There are two kinds of DVDs that You can burn on Your Mac
• Data-DVD - DVD is on deskTop/Finder and You put files on it - This will not play on ANY DVD-Player at all. It's a Data-DVD
• Video-DVD - Here You use iDVD or other DVD encoding program and add movies, photos and audio then when iDVD ask You to - Insert a new blanc DVD - Now iDVD will encode and burn material to this to result in a Video-DVD that should play on most DVD-Players
So dragging material to the DVD indicates - wrong way to do it.
In iMovie - Do not use Share to iDVD but "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (Not HD or other res. as quality will drop)
In iDVD import movie/s from Media button / Movies. (Do not go back to iMovie/FinalCut as this will trigger iDVD to set of the iDVD-BUG when returned here. If You must! Then start a brand new iDVD project.)

Try using a program called DVD Decrypter. Then, you can use a program called Videora to convert the DVD to the iPod format.

Apple Tv will not play half of my DVD's converted to .mp4

I have converted about 20 of my DVD's to the .mp4 format using Visual Hub, I used the same settings for all the rip's, my ATV will not recognise about half of them saying it cannot play this format, any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I have more detail below:
video dimensions: 608 x 320
bit rate: 65kbs
Mpeg-4 video file
Codec H.264
PS they all play in quick time & Itunes !!!!!!

I'm not sure how I would answer your question about circuit city and c/net, they may just flout the law or rely upon you using whatever they offer in a legal way.
The issue about copying DVD's is 2-fold and perhaps maybe three fold. In some countries you may be able to back up DVD's for personal security, but a second law may kick in which forbids you to circumvent DRM or copyright protection, sure in most cases one is not possible without the other but that's just how it is.
Additionally  may have agreed with the content providers to discourage such activities and hey these are their forums and their rules and it's only reasonable to respect that.

Can't read any DVD to convert to MPEG4

I have quicktime pro and I want to use it to convert DVD's I have to MPEG4 for use on my IPOD Video.
Every time I tried to open a file from the dvd it says "it is not a movie file".
I Have a normal DVD witch consists of VIDEO_TS map and a AUDIO_TS map.
I thought is was possile to use Quick Time Pro to convert these dvd's.
Can anyone tell wat I do wrong ?

QT by itself will not read mpeg2 files, which are mostly what is found on DVD. Apple does sell a mpeg2playbackcomponent for $20 but it has a number of limitations, including that it will not read from transport streams and will not read encrypted Movie DVDs. Take a look at the FAQ before spending any money on it.

Another limitation is that it will not export sound from mpeg1 or mpeg2 files. This freeware (Mac and Windows version are available) can overcome that limit for mpeg-1 or (if you buy the mpeg2 component) from mpeg2 Mpeg StreamClip

Converted DVD file -nowhere to be found on my computer?

Ok so I ripped a DVD and converted using Videora ipod converter. It took me 2 hours to do this. And now, the converted file is not in the folder that the ipod converter outputs to, and I did a search on my computer and it comes back with no results.
Aaaaaaahhhhh! Does anyone know what went wrong, or where I might find it?

I don't have a file called that. My converter setting is set to output to:
C:\Program Files\VideoraiPodConverter\Videos
but there is nothing in my "videos" folder

Question: How to convert dvd to mp4

I have tried multiple products at this point to convert files and I'm tired of spending money. Most recent download is the Xilsoft Converter.
I guess I just thought I would have one file when all the conversion was over. I do not of course. (Heck, all the file conversions don't work either...so, I'm even further confused)
Will someone please tell me if it's possible to convert a dvd to one file (just like the ipod store has when I downloaded the Alfred Hitchcock shows--each episode is just one file). I've tried Super DVD ipod Converter--that did not download to computer properly--and I received NO support from them. The sales office would answer my emails by sending them to the support desk--the support desk never responded.
I've tried Videroa without success. I've gone to BitComent. I just don't know what I'm doing obviously.

i use a program called ffmpegx, it's shareware ($15) but will work for free with a nag screen. it uses open source unix programs that you can download (the program gives you the locations). the program is awesome, open up any file format, and save to almost any format, it even has a preset for ipod video, and ipod video for tv. definitely worth checking out. i converted the whole season of clone high easily. it even has tools to fix, author, and combine files... very versatile.
