DVD-ROMs from Computer Music Magazine won't mount

I have an intel iMac model 10,1 running OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8. (I still like some old PPC games....)
Just recently I have been unable to load any of my (many) data DVD-ROMs from this magazine to instal music software etc. The disc loads, and gets spat out after a short time. Music and data CDs work. Normal movie DVDs load normally.
I did the Repair Permissions and zap the PRAM things. Still no luck... Any advice?

At this point because your Super Drive is still working, a lens cleaner might also help...?
For example: > Amazon.com: Memorex CD/DVD-Player Laser-Lens Cleaner: Electronics
It also might help to clean and polish the CDs that are no longer reading in your Super Drive.
see > How to Clean a DVD or CD Disc ?
and/or > Video: How to Clean CDs | eHow.com
Also if at some point your Super Drive fails, you might want to consider a more reliable Mac compatible tray loading external DVD drive instead of replacing the internal Super Drive.

  • Samples from Computer Music Magazine CD

If anyone out there buys or is subscribed to this magazine and gets the monthly DVD with the thousands of samples, how does one import them so that they can be seen within the loops samples directoy in garaband?
I draggged and dropped them and they were automatically copied to library/audio but I cant see them in GB
    thanks

apple should give u some shares or pay you.
I'd be fine with some more shares (Heck a little more PPS would make me happy with what I have), but a few dollars (or even table scraps) would be nice.
Aside from the ones not being in the same time code?, as you mentioned
not showing up, most are not being transfered.
It sounds like some are tagged properly, and the rest aren't (Assuming the time sig is the same and "Keyword Browsing" is deselected in GB's prefs).
If I drag and drop this entire folder into ALU, will it create a lager loops folder for
to be able to then drag into GB? By converting some of the non drgable directly into GB samples.
It's a little more complicated than that if you want them to really be usable in the loop browser. STLU tags the samples with keywords to identify them in the Browser, so you would want to drop groups of loops, at best, into STLU. Then you would tag them as Guitar, Drum, Woodwind, etc, the key...
Then finally, yes, drop all the processed loops into the loop browser and they will appear under their proper instrument buttons.

  • Can I swap the CD-RW with a DVD-ROM from older iMac?

I have two slot loading iMacs.
1)iMac DV spec ed. 400 MHz with DVD-ROM from Oct. 1999
2)iMac spec. ed. 700 MHz with CD-RW from summer 2001
Can I put the DVD-ROM from iMac 1 into iMac 2, i.e. take out the CD-RW from the newer iMac and put in the DVD-ROM from the older iMac ? Or is the DVD-drive too old ?
    Thanx
    Martin

I don't see any reason this wouldn't work, but I'd have to wonder why you'd want to do this. a CD-RW is much more useful, in my personal opinion, than a DVD player on a computer.

  • DVD burned from a disk image won't work on different computers???

Under the directions for how to burn a DVD from an disk image, the Apple Help document (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006) says this:
"Note: When burning a disc from a disk image, the burned disc will have the same format as the disk image. If you need a disc that will work on different computers, burn the disc in the Finder."
Does this mean that the DVDs that I am burning from the disk image won't be able to be played on a PC? a Mac other than mine? Neither? WHAT? I am planning to sell the DVDs of a workshop I present -- to people who may be playing them on PCs. Should I not be using this method (burning from a disk image) to burn my DVDs?

Video DVDs are in the UDF format. The disk image you created is in the UDF format. When you use Disk Utility to burn the disk image to writable media, the new discs will be in UDF format and all will be well.
    You are doing things correctly.
BTW, unless you have an external burner with lots of cooling, if you expect to use the burner in your Mac (which DOESN'T have lots of cooling), it's a good idea to pause between discs to allow the burner to cool down. (BTW, this comment is based on the reported results of several people in the forum. If you don't allow the cool down timer, you will start to create 'bad' discs. Also it is VERY important that you reduce the burn speed in Disk Utility to 4x or lower in order to create discs with maximum compatability with players. (You should see a way to change the speed in Disk Utility afterr you have inserted a disc.)

  • Music CDs won't mount

This becoming more of a problem as time goes on.
Some music CDs will not mount on my Early 2008 iMac, with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-875 drive. This started under 10.6, and continues with 10.7. The percentage of disks is increasing, including disks that had mounted before. Data CDs and DVDs mount without incident.
CDs that don't mount on the iMac mount without incident on my MacBook Pro, and play without a problem on my BluRay/DVD/CD player.
Any insights before I bite the bullet and buy a new superdrive?

  • What DVD player to buy to play DVDs recorded from computer (AVI files)?

Only DVD player I have that will play AVI files from DVDs recorded off the computer is my portable/car DVD player.  Is there a DVD player I can purchase to play these DVDs without using the portable DVD player?

    Look for something DivX certified.

  • Can I use Product Recovery DVD-ROM from other unit for my Tecra A2?

My Tectra A2 has become so corrupted that I want to put it back to whn it was purchased. I can't find the Product Recovery DVD_ROM that came with it. But I have got the Toshiba A60 Product recovery DVD_ROM.
Are they all the same or do I need the exact DVD_ROM for the TECTRA A2?

    Hi
The answer is no. every recovery image is created separately and contains drivers for specific hardware infrastructure. Better way is to use Microsoft installations CD and later install all drivers, tools and utilities alone. All this stuff you can find on Toshiba download page.

  • Music CD won't mount or eject

I am trying to download songs into my iTunes from my cd collection and came across one cd that won't seem to mount. My PowerBook is not recognizing there being a disc inserted and now I can't get it to eject. Tried suggestions from Mac Help (restart with mouse/eject held, insert paperclip, Open Firmware). Looking for suggestions. Thanks.

If you have not already, reset PRAM (you said you did already but check the procedure to make sure it was done properly)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
and if that does not help, reset SMC
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
which is basically disconnecting ALL cables and power, then reconnecting using a precise procedure. After you reconnect the power and start it up, connect just your keyboard and mouse (unless they are wireless and therefore already connected). Try ejecting the disc from the keyboard before you connect any other peripheral (USB/FIreWire) devices.
If that does not work, you should have your iMac checked by a technician at an Apple Store or Apple-certified repair shop. The drive may be faulty.

  • Cd's/Dvd's won't mount and computer ejects them

All of a sudden I can not read cd/dvd on my computer. They will not mount and just get ejected after attempting to mount. I have not downloaded or upgraded anything. It all happened when I had a cd with pictures on them and I tried opening them but they would seem corrupt. Not sure if this has anything to do with it but after trying to open several pictures my computer crashed. Once restarted the computer recgonized the cd I had with the pictures as a blank cd. It was clearly not blank, anyway after that any cd or dvd would not mount. I could not even start up with a cd to use a utility program to check my superdrive out. The firmware is up to date. Is there anything else I can do before I buy a new one. Any if I do have to buy one. What kind of superdrive do I get. Thanks for you help

  • Burn DVD ROM for Compatiblity ? ? ?

I read that a DVD ROM disc is more compatible with settop player.I notice that Encore has a option for DVD ROM burning, somthing I have read about and have not been able to do. I guess I should burn my project to an image file. Then a DVD ROM from the image file ? ? How is it done correctly ? ? ?
    Thanks - Video

As far as I know, the ROM CONTENT option is so you may add "other content" to a movie DVD, playable only on a computer... such as links to web pages, or a PowerPoint presentation... or any other content that is not a "movie" to play in a set top player
If you want to make a "movie" DVD to play in a set top player connected to a TV... you just use the usual burn option (or create an .ISO to burn later or make multiple discs)

  • DVD ROM not recognized

I haven't seen a discussion on this topic.
I recently purchased an Apple DVD ROM from a third party and my system says it's not set up for the hardware.
Whats the issue or how can I fix it?

    Oh god I'm sorry.

The drive will allow for software transfer but the 10.2 Apple DVD player gives me the error message.

  • Installing Tiger w/ External DVD ROM

I have an e-mac with a dud super drive, bought an external DVD Rom Drive, pop the disk in, It mounts, double click install, it says restart to start the instalation, i do, then it boots up like nothings different, no installation, I tried to restart holding down "c" and a weird screen comes up with some "apple basic" stuff and i have to restart I also changed to start up disk option and it didnt work. I'm runing 10.2.8, bought a new mac book with tiger and leopard software, I want to upgrade my good ol e-mac but cant! Please help!
    Brad

    Bradley Beef,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Is the external DVD Firewire or USB? Only Firewire devices can serve as external boot drives for PowerPC (PPC) macs such as the eMac.
Holding the c key down at startup tells the Mac to try to boot from the internal optical drive. You want the option key, as described in Startup Manager: Select a Startup Volume. (You can also look at Magical Macintosh Key Sequences).
From your post, it does come across that you're using the Install discs from the Mac Book. Aside from the pesky legal detail that the Mac Book software is licensed only for use with the Mac Book, gray label OS X Install discs are model-specific and will only work with the model with which the discs were shipped (not to mention the Mac Book is an Intel CPU and the eMac a PPC CPU). You'll need the retail black-label Tiger or Leopard Install DVD to update the eMac.
Updating from 10.2.8 to 10.4.x will make your eMac feel much more responsive (assuming you have at least 512 MB RAM). There's a handy upgrade guide for Tiger in Gulliver - Tiger Upgrade Guide.

  • X300 and X301 laptop is DVD-ROM the same?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi, johnnykola
I did some research on Lenovo's website and found these two documents: X300 and X301 system service parts. According to these documents, the optical drive fore both systems is the exact same. So, in theory, you should be able to place one inside the other. However, I have never tried it, nor have I heard of anyone else doing either, so just be aware that it may not work for unknown reasons.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam
