DVD-RW error

I just got a new Addonics DVD-RW and put it on my Sun Blade 2500.
I got a "setting reservation failed" error when I try to burn a DVD. The system sees it ok and it can tell the media in the drive is blank. What does this error mean? I'm using Solaris 8 and the DVD drive is on the list of approved devices.

did you ever figure this out? i just started getting this error on a Netra 240 with the sun built-in DVD burner.

  • DVD Player error -69902?

I've successfully played DVDs on my iMac (24" 2.4 GHz Aluminum) -- Front Row works like a charm! However, I've recently encountered a DVD that has issues with my computer:
A couple of weeks ago I received the Beatles' "Help!" two-DVD set in timely fashion after ordering it through Amazon.ca. Unfortunately, although the second disc works perfectly on my computer (a 2007 Apple iMac 24" 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo with 2 GB of RAM), the first disc will not play past the FBI warning and the opening page (where Play, Subtitles, Settings, Chapters is located). Whether I use either Front Row or DVD player, the result is the same: when I insert the disc into my computer, I am presented with the error message "Skipping Over Damaged Area". If, in DVD Player, I click on "Title" in order to change chapters, an error message pops up informing me "DVD Player encountered a system error. Error -69902". And in DVD Player, I am informed that this disc contains only one chapter. In any case, when I'm on the Help! opening page & I click on "Play" (in either DVD player or Front Row), nothing happens. No movie. The music keeps looping on the opening page, but not much more than that.
Out of curiosity, I tried playing this same disc on a standalone Toshiba DVD player hooked up to my home TV, and amazingly, the disc plays fine!
After emailing Amazon, I was instructed to return the DVD for a replacement, which arrived in the mail today. Imagine my surprise when the replacement displayed the same error messages! Before I return this disc for a refund, maybe someone can fill me in: what is DVD Player error -69902?

  • How do I get past "can't find valid dvd player" error?

This is regarding a G4 powermac running Tiger 10.4.3
My Sony dual layer DRX-720UL/T seems to work fine with DVD-ROM content. My kids use it for DVD-ROM games and I had no problem installing Tiger. Problem comes in when I open "DVD player" and get a "Can't find valid dvd player," error. They're connected via Firewire 400, and I've tried the USB link, just to see, but the same error comes up. I'm fairly certain that I viewed a DVD before upgrading to Tiger. The Sony is supposed to be fully mac compatiable, and even comes with Toast light 6. Again all seems to be well except for the fact that DVD player won't allow me to view a NTSC DVD. No matter how many I try.

What drive was in this G4 prior?
If you did not have a DVD drive, you need to use Pacifist to extract & install DVD Player.app; downloading or drag&drop won't work.
Also, Sony drives are probably the worst when it comes to compatability; one specific model may work fine, and others not. This should be less of an issue in Tiger, but only if the problem is other than the optical drive firmware, about which you can do nothing (on a Mac), unlike Pioneer & NEC drives that have mac-based flashers available.
If DVD Player was installed previously, based on having a DVD drive prior to Tiger install, you may want to try running the 10.4.3 Combo updater over your existing install.

  • Help, DVD burning error

hello, I have been getting DVD burning error messages for the last two days. I have been getting the message "disk burning failed because an unexpected error occurred. there was also a message about not enough laser power to calibrate. I have tried slower speeds, a different brand of DVDs and a DVD Lens cleaner and still no luck. It started on christmas eve with Tiger and it's been doing it for the last two days on Leopard with the same system.

I created the same Topic, you can try looking for it. I just went and got my superdrive replaced, seemed to work ok.

That's why you want to make a backup of the registry. If you didn't make a backup, use MS system restore to go back. The only values you should remove are UpperFilter or LowerFilter - one or both may be in there and can be removed. If neither value exists, then that is probably why you can't burn and Windows is not recognizing your drive as a writable drive.

  • Annoying DVD/CD error and iTunes

Trying to troubleshoot a friend's Sony Vaio VGN-FE880E running Vista Business premium, I think. It's windows Vista Business of some flavor... but I digress.
I'm her Tech Support, but she lives in NYC, I'm in Atlanta. We only get together a few times a year, so I only have limited time to check out her computer to see how it's working. Usually, there's not a lot to do. This time, I'm stumped. Her computer wasn't recognizing any CD/DVD placed into the drive. It's realtively new, and she got it in late Feb/early March.
In Device Manager, it lists her CD/DVD drive as:
    "Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA Device"
It has the ever annoying "warning" triangle by it. Wading into it, yields the following problem:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
OK... Can't uninstall/reinstall the easy way. Have to wade into the registry editor and follow these instructions:
    http://tinyurl.com/2nwnqx
That allows me to uninstall the drive (although there is no "lowerfilter" section to delete).
After reinstalling the drive, everything is fine. Until I launch iTunes.
iTunes gives an error along the lines of: You've changed your hardware. You need to reinstall iTunes so that it can access your CD/DVD drive properly.
OK.... I've done that. And then the DVD drive error pops up again.
I've tried this multiple times, same result. iTunes is the latest, and all the updates to Vista are in place.
Sony has passed the buck on this, saying to contact Apple as it has to be their problem.
Thoughts on how to fix this?
    Thanks for any/all input...

    THIS IS VERY INTERESTING.
When I tried to upgrade from iTunes 7.1 to 7.2 it was a MAJOR disaster. And this thread caught my attention because the exact same thing happened to me.
When I uninstalled iTunes 7.1, my computer wouldn't let me install 7.2 or Safari. I kept getting an error. It wouldn't let me reinstall 7.1. So I thought there might be a conflict with Zone Alarm or Trend Micro PC-cillin. So I uninstalled both along with Ad-Aware and Firefox and then everything went downhill. I couldn't reinstall PC-cillin 2007 only 2006 version. Yet I was able to reinstall Firefox, Ad-Aware, and Zone Alarm. But my Firefox got screwed up as did Internet Explorer. A few days later, my DVD and DVD-RW drives stopped working. Every time I would put a disk in, it wouldn't recognize it. Like when I restarted my computer, my H (DVD) and I (DVD-RW) drives wouldn't even show up under My Computer. It was as if the drivers had gotten wiped out. And when I went into the Device Manager, it had those yellow marks by both drives.
So I ended up uninstalling ALL of my programs, reformatting my hard drive, reinstalling Windows XP Media Center Edition, and reinstalling all of my drivers. I was lucky that when I went into the setup program and changed the boot sequence it picked up the DVD drive. Everything works fine now. I was able to install iTunes 7.2 and Safari as well as my other programs.
BUT THERE'S NO WAY I'M UPGRADING TO ITUNES 7.3

  • DVD-1 error bei Encore DVD

    Hallo,
    Danke,
    Mirko
    And in english:
I am using Encore DVD Trial Version for several weeks and was building quite a big DVD Project. Everything was fine until I added subtitles! From that moment on I got the error message "DVD-1 error" while analysing the authoring-script. When I remove the subtitles, everything works fine.
    Thanks for any help!
    Regards,
    Mirko

    Hi
Entweder sind die Rohlinge nicht kompatibel mit dem Standaloneplayer, oder der Transcoder von Encore kriegt es nicht hin die Files anständig zu encoden. Hatte ich beides schon.

  • Error during backup to DVD: Unknown Error when burning to disc (261)

I'm writing on behalf of my brother who has an HP Pavilion ZE2120CA laptop and is using the latest version of iTunes. We were backing up his purchased music onto DVD but just after it says "Burning Disc Initialized" the disc ejects from the drive and it says this cryptic error message. We also tried connecting an external Plextor drive via USB2 - same thing. Any suggestions, white papers or documents out there that'll help us? Also feel free to talk technical to us because I am A+ Certified and while my brother is an English major he also has an intimate knowledge of computers and has several programming courses under his belt.
    Thanks,

Look at some of the other topics. Many of them deal with backup problems since the release of version 7.3. Quite a few of them deal with your situation.

  • DVD burn error message

I get this error message when I try to burn a data DVD: "Burning the disk failed because communication to the disk drive failed. (error code 0 x 80020022)
I am attempting to use the original drive system (Pioneer DVD-RW DVR 104) and it plays CD's and DVD's without a problem. Thoughts? Jim

just had this problem with a 17" MacPro purchased in Jan 09. Toast Titanium 9 had no problems burning the CD. tried it again in Finder but backed the burn speed down from 24x to 8x - no problem.
I can only assume it is cheap media causing the problem - we have no problems with Maxell CDs at full burn speed (24x). The CDs causing the problems are Verbatims (rated at 1-52x) that have printable surfaces.
    hope this helps

  • G5 DVD burner error message? Help please?

I get this error message when I try burning a 1gb quicktime movie to dvd on my pre installed standard burner. Thanks in advance
the link below is a screenshot of the error
    http://www.darkstargraphics.com/dvd_message.gif
Im at a loss and ready to by another
below is the dvd burner profile
    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D:
    Firmware Revision: A606
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
    Cache: 2000 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW
    Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
    Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
    Media: No

The error "internal target failure" appears on PCs using this drive as well, so it appears that it's not a Toast specific error.
However, in my browsing, no one seemed to be able to tell if it was a true hardware failure of the drive, or if it was caused by poor quality media.
I'd try other brands of media and a lens cleaner before flashing the firmware. And, if you do decide to flash the firmware, the current, official firmware for that drive is here. The link in MLCinma's post contains hacked (region free) firmware and is outdated in any event.
Let us know what brand of media you're using and what speed you're burning at.
The DVR-106D has had lots of reports of failures, so it could very well be the drive. At least a replacement DVR-111D will only cost you about $40 - $50.

  • When burning a dvd an error message comes up before the burning even begins

That is of course, if I can get the comp to read the DVD first.

Let me see if I can help out.
Just because your drive says it is capable of 8X doesn't mean it will burn at 8X.
Depending on what you are using to try to burn with in the way of software, I suggest you burn at a slower Speed. like 2X. Apples Software is entry level and it works but many users find harder to use than the top of the line in burning software like Roxio's Toast 7.
Here is the explination on the different DVD's.
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvd
Just bear one thing in mind.
When it comes to DVD Players, Formats, and Burners, of the hundreds of different manufactures, All are opting to be the Industry Standard, and it appears they insert there little chinks that almost force users to use there products exclusively.
There is always a backlash from these marketing ploys.
In a perfect world you would think any DVD would work in any DVD Player and Computer but sorry it is not so there are so many things that come into play. Format, Speed, Brand, Software used. Any one or combination can affect the process.
    The problem is multi-dimensional.
First check in your particular profiler on EXACTLY what type(FORMAT) of DISK's your burner will burn.
Next please do not just randomly go out and buy a spool of 30 50 or 100 disc's because they are on sale.
There is a HUGE difference in the type format disc's you buy
There is also a HUGE difference in the BRAND you choose, some are junk.
There is also a HUGE Difference in the SPEED of the media you choose.
If any one or a combination of any of the 3 mentioned above can cause burn error's or no burn at all or spit the disk out.
So it is a good idea to do a little homework on your Optical Drive and see just exactly what it is capable of and what it will use for media.
    (ONE LAST NOTE)
Many of the Media Manufactures are becomming aware that many of the Apple Burners are having trouble with there Media. Maxell has just come out with a brand new one that is. Maxell 16X DVD-R.
The key is read the packaging. this new media tells you that it will burn at any speed from 1X through 16X, and it works very well on the older Optical Drives. I also opt to use the individual that include the cases there seems to be much better quality, not like that of the spools.
Remember Apples Drives to date are much pickier than those used in the PC community.
    Cheers Don
