DVD+RW is "locked"?

I want to burn files to a DVD+RW on which I have previously recorded films/TV progs etc. I have formatted the DVD in my ordinary DVD recorder. I've put the DVD+RW in my Superdrive but when I try to copy files from my desktop to the DVD+RW I am told that that's not possible as the DVD is locked. When I "Get Info" from the Finder window, under "Sharing and Permissions" I am told "You can only read".
Any ideas how I can write to the DVD+RW in my Superdrive?
Thanks!

You'll have to erase the DVD to be able to use it again. You can erase the disk with Disk Utility.

Could you be a little more descriptive, does this happen with all DVDs? Please describe the type of DVDs you are attempting to use, commercial movies, blank DVDs, etc...

  • DVD Pro 3 locks up after completing the format phase can anyone help?

I am very experienced with FCP & DVDSP3. However, starting this week my entire computer locks up after I start to burn a dvd in dvdsp3? I have tried everything I can think of please help. I have burned several dvd's using same footage. I thought maybe the disk were dirty (fingerprints etc.) I have tried several dvd's but nothing works. Help please!!

Yes the project was built by me. I have burned several copies from the same file. After about the 10 copy it started to freeze. My disk drive would keep running but it sounded as if it was stuck. The program stopped responding at this point. I'm using Apple DVDRW. I also tried using Maxwell (poor decision). Do you think it's the program or the dvd burner (hardware). thanks for the help.

  • Unable to burn and watch videos on DVD because of locked files?

I have an Imac G5 a few years old and have just installed Leopard. I have been trying to burn some videos onto a DVD but after it is burnt, I cannot open the videos. I think it is because the original file was locked. I then discovered that all files were locked. I go to Get info on each folder and unlock it. I also unlocked the folder with the videos before burning it to DVD. Still I cannot open the videos on the DVD. Somehow the folders stay locked even though I unlocked them. Any suggestions?

When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.
If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then in System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser, but check this also:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5655?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US  which also covers ‘blocked plug-in’.

  • CD/DVD Burner automatically Locking disc no matter what

Every time I burn (my images to) a file - even though I "unlock" in Get Info - the disc gets locked preventing me from dragging items off the disc. There seems to be a default mechanism that I am unable to override on this machine. Any ideas? (when I select Burn Disc the little lock appears on the folder icon as it burns)

  • DVD Studio Pro locks up - crashes on selecting Format

I searched for this one but couldn't find anyone. having this problem.  I believe it's Mountain Lion-related.  Mountain Lion is not my friend.  I just open the program, hit format and I get a spinning ball.  Trashed preferences.  This is starting to get me down.

I am very happy to report that DVD Studio Pro has been restored to health.  It was an accident.  I took someones advice on how to fix a sleep wake issue on the Mac Pro.
    This is what I did.
    1.  Boot up holding down the CMD and R keys to get to Disk Utilities.
    2.  Run Repair Permissions.
    3.  Run Repair Disk.
    4. Close out of the Disk Utilities and boot the machine.
    5. Open the Finder.  Hold down the Option key, choose GO from the menu and select LIBRARY.
    6. From the Library drag the CACHE fold and the COOKIES folder to the trash.
    7. Delete the trash.
Probably recognizable by many of you.  This fixed sleep.  It fixed DVD SP.  Muxing/build and format.  It also seems to have fixed problems with opening Toast 11, Squeeze 8.5, Compressor 3.5.3 and Disk Utility without locking up.  The last group I mentioned has been very contentious.  Want to test some more before a final verdict.  It did not fix a skipped frames issue when monitoring BlackMagic audio in FCP 7.

  • DVD DRIVE SEEMS LOCKED! HELP!

I tried to install a new printer and when I went to insert the install disc, the drive wouldnt take the disc. I pushed and pushed and it felt like there was two bars locking the drive. I pressed eject numerous times thinking there was another disc in there. The eject icon came up on the screen every time, but no ejection of any disc. I took an old unused CD and pushed it in to see what was going on, it went under the bars but with great force. It was also badly scratched making me think there was bars there. Any ideas on what the problem is? And if the drive is screwed, know where I can get a new one for cheap?

This is a machine from ebay... and still under applecare, but not in my name.... Do I have a chance with apple?

  • Though I assume that video DVDs are region locked, what about software?

Will a US iMac be able to handle Japanese Apple software?  I just recently purchased an iMac here in Japan and want to spring for an MBA this christmas back in the states.  I also bought iWork (family pack) and intend to put that on my MBA.  Will the US MBA be able to use the Japanese iWork?

Thanks, Tom.  Not concerned about language since I already switched this Mac to English and am using iWork in English.  I just realized that the MBA has no disk drive, so I'd have to connect it to my iMac via thunderbolt anyway to share the DVD.  Thanks again!

Can't help but all I can say is that I have exactly the same problems. I've tried every suggested solution in this forum but to no avail and it's not every DVD it happens with either. All my DVDs are commercial ones that I have legitimately bought.
I've sent a feedback message to Apple and maybe the next SL update will fix it, although I'm sorely tempted to go back to Leopard. I don't watch videos all that much so I'll hang on a bit longer.

  • The video tab in ipod is locked- cannot load dvd (.mp4 files) files to ipod

I converted the dvd files to .mp4 files (Using cusoft).
The files were loaded in the itune (by using add files to library). I can play the dvd in the itune on my pc but cannot transfer the dvd files to the ipod because:
The dvd tab in the ipod is locked (white out). I can see the white out: [X] do not update video files .
Since the dvd tab is locked out I cannot transfer the dvd files to the ipod. I used the latest verson of itune and ipod programs.

Urgent help will be highly appreciated.

  • DVD locked during installation

I'm trying to upgrade from Leopard 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard 10.6.3.  I purchased the software from Apple.  When trying to install, it stalled after about 6 minutes & wouldn't go any further.  I canceled the installation & re-booted.  Got the grey screen for awhile, then it finally re-booted with my old version X.  My DVD is now locked & doesn't show in the Finder.   It also won't eject from keyboard.  Not sure how to get it out & why it won't install.

Close all open apps (except Finder).
    Apple menu / choose Restart...
Hold down the mouse (like you're clicking on something) as soon as you hear the startup chime sound.
    The DVD will eject.

  • Blank DVDs become 'locked' as soon as I try to burn on my Mac

Yet another wierd eccentricity of the Mac-world.... I put a blank DVD into my Mac; in the 'get info' window it all looks normal, and UNlocked - yet as soon as I drag the files across to burn them, it suddenly tells me I cannot burn onto this DVD because it is 'locked'. I look again in 'Get info' - and the DVD is locked - and the box is greyed out so I cannot untick it...This has happened 4 times now & I'm getting sick of it - does anyone know what is going on here & why all the blank DVDs become mysteriously 'locked' when I try to burn files to them? Thanks...

Hi, in the Get Info window, can you unlock it with admin PW?
Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does it work in the new account?

  • Tecra A6: DVD-RAM UJ-841S region code is locked

After playing several DVD Movies from my homeland and USA the DVD drive is locked... Is it right, that the only way to get t back in working condition for Germany, is to replace the unit? ...or at least the ROM of the unit...
    Thank you for fast replies!

    Hi
    No, its not possible
Fact is that you can change the region code 4 or 5 times (I cannot remember) and then the setting is locked and its not possible to change it anymore on legal way.
Of course, you will find many tips and advices in the internet how to change the settings but I would not recommend to follow such guide lines because you can damage the drive!

  • Locked while making DVD

I have tried to make a dvd several times over the last day.
I used I show to take some screen shot video.
I have tried to cut the video smaller, I have changed project setting nothing seems to work about 5 minutes into making the DVD my computer locks up. So I have to do a hard boot. Any Ideas?
Also if it happens again is there a better way to force quit when my computer is locked up.
    Thanks
    Troy

+I was able to make a DVD after I changed to a Different theme. and settings.+
That's odd... iDVD can't handle "any old type" of video file.
+It took my computer over 5 hours to make the Dvd, is that normal?+
Depends on the quality setting you used. If Pro Quality, I'd say that about right. Anything under 2 hours, use Best Performance and enable background encoding so it works on the encoding while you're working on your project. I don't think laptops are the best option for iDVD... But that's just my opinion.
